This is a landmark-type restaurant. There's nothing nearby aside from a place to fly your RC airplanes and some churches, so know when to go because it can be quite busy and you won't have other close options. You can't go wrong with any configuration of burger. They do to a burger what a fine artist does to an empty canvas - take something plane and make it exquisite. They don't overdo it or put a bunch of unnecessary toppings on it to mask poor quality beef. It's just a good, perfectly cooked burger with your choice of standard toppings. The place feels like a kind of Time Machine where you're likely to run into neighbors or friends. Servers are always nice and prompt, given the business of it all. Just a regular come as you are nothing fancy place but clean and great tasting food. Their onion rings and potato wedges are a good add-on but with the size of the burgers, you could get full without them. The price just puts the icing on the cake ..two hamburgers for less than $10 is just unheard of these days. And they are handmade THICK patties; not anywhere close to being thin. O, little town of Bethlehem, what a great little grill you have. Though not actually located at a crossroads, the Crossroads Grill is a spartan cinderblock building located in a generally bucolic setting pretty much in the middle of nowhere between Taylorsville and Bethlehem, NC. But the locals know what is inside, and they descend upon it in droves to partake in the fresh grill fare and home made vittles found therein. I ordered a hot dog all the way, double cheeseburger, a side of slaw, and a sweet tea. Hot dog: very good all around. The wiener, which they split and grill, was very tasty. The chili had a good flavor but was a little dry. The slaw was excellent. It could have used more mustard and onions. The bun was toasted/grilled nicely. Cheeseburger: competent all around with beautifully melted cheese. The beef was a bit mild and could have used a bit more char. Slaw: excellent home made slaw. It was pretty wet, but this was fine in the bowl and was drained enough on the dog so that it did not ruin the bun. Sweet tea: just above average. It was good but could be a little stronger. The service was friendly, homey, and prompt. This is a neat little place that serves good grill food in a beautiful part of the state. Speaking of which, if you do make the journey out this way, it is worth a 30 or so minute drive to McGalliard Falls in Valdese, an impressive and beautiful waterfall for not being in the mountains. I've seen this little place mentioned several times lately - once in Our State magazine - the issue detailing 100 Foods you Must Eat in 100 Counties - Crossroads Grill was mentioned for its Barbecue Sandwich. And then Bob Garner did a segment on UNC TV's, North Carolina Weekend, featuring the cheeseburger here. Twofers are not to be ignored, and if the Chili Dog is there, we got a Hat Trick - Hooah! This is not a place you stumble across unless you are completely lost - which is not out of the realm of possibility in Taylorsville - every other road seems to be named for a dam or a church - and there are several downtown streets that have "Main Street" as a central part of their name. But endeavor to preservere, it will be worth it. Come in off I-40 if you can, so you approach on NC Highway 16, and when you see the Little Ass Farms sign, you are getting close. If you can, pull over and watch the goats on the farm - this is part of what folks did before television. Totally cool. Needless to say, it is a small place, but the parking lot is not only paved, individual spots are lined off with little fading. Interestingly enough, this is an 8AM to 8PM place, most such places open earlier. The fare is typical, with a few plates thrown in with the usual array of sandwiches for lunch and dinner. I can't speak to all they offer, but I can speak to 3 excellent sandwiches. The Barbecue Sandwich ($3.75) mentioned in Our State Magazine as the food item for Alexander County, is a nice choice - it is large, loaded with pretty finely chopped, moist and tender barbecued pig, accompanied by a nice white slaw that matched the meat well. While the pork is not full of fire and brimstone like much in the Eastern part of the state, neither is it overly sweet or dominated by a tomato taste, like much pig in this area - I liked this sandwich, and would choose to indulge again. The Chili Dog ($1.95) was nice, with a good amount of meaty, tasty chili - I would order it again. Interestingly, the wiener is butterflied, and grilled flat - nice flavor. But, for us, the star of this visit was the Cheeseburger ($3.25) - simply, one of the very best I've tasted. Nicely sized, hand formed, perfectly cooked on a flat top grill, and absolutely loaded with flavor. You can get it doubled, doubled with bacon, but you really don't need that - it is more than fine simply dressed. read more

And after all of this, you have to have the cheesecake. It was so creamy! This place is no frills and just has really good, fresh food.
