A few things to note about Dick's before signing up for their services: Yard waste is PREPAID-- so, even if you are moving (which I am) they will not prorate any of the $290 they charge you, even if you won't be using this service because you literally no longer live there. I can understand prepaying a service, but to not refund what is not used due to someone relocating is theft in my opinion; they can refund recycling and waste, but not yard waste... Also, the rate above was what they charged most recently ($290)...which two years prior was $250...a 16% increase in two years? I get inflation, but 16%? If you think 16% isn't great, be prepaid (oops-- I mean prepared) for your rates to increase w/ garbage & recycling. My 10/1/24 statement for 3 months was $123.80...compare that to my most recent statement on 7/1/26: $175.31. This is a 41.6% increase in two years. If you want to be blindsided with rate increases and prepaid nonsense, choose Dick's. They stand true to their name! read more

On July 1, 2026, my account was automatically charged $115.02 for the 3-month billing period spanning July 1 through September 30, 2026. Because service is terminating at the end of July, DSI will not provide trash or recycling pickup for the remaining two months (August and September 2026). When I contacted customer service, I was informed that DSI relies on fine print on the back of statement receipts to refuse refunds for prepaid charges. Refusing a pro-rated refund under these circumstances violates Minnesota consumer protection laws: Violation of Minn. Stat. § 325G.57 & § 325G.58 (Automatic Renewal & Continuous Service): Terms regarding non-refundable prepayments were never clearly or conspicuously disclosed prior to autopay authorization. Post-enrollment invoice fine print does not fulfill statutory pre-charge disclosure requirements. Violation of Minn. Stat. § 325F.69, Subd. 1 (Minnesota Consumer Fraud Act): Retaining funds for services that will not be rendered based on undisclosed post-enrollment terms constitutes an unfair and unconscionable practice. Violation of Minn. Stat. § 325D.44 (Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act): Concealing restrictive refund policies until after billing setup creates deceptive commercial misunderstanding. Unearned Revenue & Unjust Enrichment: As a non-contractual, month-to-month residential customer, retaining $76.68 for two months of unrendered services constitutes unearned revenue under Minnesota contract principles. When I sent an email asking for a refund for the service that they are not prividing, they replied with this: "After reviewing your account and request, we must respectfully decline the refund request. Per our company policy, prepaid service charges are non-refundable upon cancellation of service. This policy is disclosed on the back of our customer invoices and billing statements. Additionally, during your cancellation call, you were advised that any prepaid services remaining on the account would not be refunded if you chose to proceed with canceling service. Your account was billed in accordance with the established billing cycle, and the charges were assessed prior to your voluntary decision to discontinue service. Therefore, no refund or account credit will be issued for the remaining prepaid portion of the billing period." As I am not under a contract, charging for service that isn't being provided in an attempt to force you to stay with them is simply bad business. Cancelled our service back in November, but already paid through the end of the year (December). So we kept the cans because they wouldn't pick it up early, but have repeatedly called and emailed several times since then for them to pick up. Instead, the trash would be picked up and they would leave the cans. After 2 weeks, we pulled the cans and continued to message DSI to pick up their cans as city ordinance does not allow it to simply sit there for 2 weeks (what we did). To this day (March), this still has not been completed and instead we received a BILL despite them not providing any service at all. Scammy company to deal with. read more

Do NOT Trust Dick's Sanitation (DSI)! They raised my monthly price from $132.32 per month in 2020 to $354.54 in 2025! My business was a loyal customer from 2012 through 2025 for our trash and recycling removal. Dick's used to be family owned. Got bought by some greedy national company. I trusted them and setup autopay. They were a fine company until the acquisition. Yesterday, I called four other companies who provide service in Burnsville MN, and they all quoted me a "fair" monthly rate similar to (but less than) what Dick's used to charge us in 2020. Nitti Sanitation, Aspen Waste and Suburban Waste all quoted me around $110 for identical service that Dick's was charging me $354.54 - (same size and number of trash cans, same number of pickups per month, same location). Dick's tries to give you a hassle when you cancel too! Their market manager, Howard Enroth, tried to tell me that all companies in town raise their prices like this. Not True! I spoke with several of them. The manager knows how much I was being ripped off, so they offered this: "DSI would like to offer you 12 months of service at no charge. (1/1/2026-12/31/2026)." First of all, I would never do business again with a company that rips people off. Secondly, this offer is less than 1/3 of how much they ripped me off. At this point, I just want to warn other trusting people to NOT trust DSI/Dick's Sanitation. (Dick's Sanitation increased our price from $132.32 to $201.18 in 2022, then to $243.28 in 2023, up to $290.08 in 2024 up to $354.54 in 2025!!!). Dick's is NOT a company that you can trust. I am not a customer but a Dicks Sanitation garbage truck keeps turning around on the road using my driveway. My kids have seen it done before but I just witnessed it on my ring camera. The tar at the bottom of my driveway is cracking and I'm taking pictures and going to consult with an attorney. I live on a township gravel road but I have a blacktop driveway. There is a circle turn around at the end of my road that the truck can use but because they do not have any customers past me and the lazy driver is using my driveway. read more

Very expensive. Saved 60 percent by switching away from them. And when I did switch away, they refused to accept a written notice SIGNED BY ME requesting end of service. Instead, they only said our service officially ended weeks later when I ALSO called them. AND they charged me for those weeks even though we weren't using their service. Don't use them. Especially don't bother with them for yard waste pick up. I've tried 3 times this fall to schedule yard waste pick up and every single time they did not show up on our scheduled day. Which means the bags sat over the weekend and I had to call on Monday to report a missed pick up. After the first time they failed, I would call on our scheduled pick up day to make sure we were still on the route, and I was always reassured we were. Well, here we are again, bags still at the end of the driveway, and it was the last day for yard waste so now I get to find a place to haul and dump 3 bags of rotting leaves. If they weren't contracted with the city I live in for garbage, I wouldn't use them. Completely incapable of performing a service they offer. Not sure why they bother offering it. read more

Put our trash out the night before. We had a bit extra but couldn't fit it in the bin. So we put it on the side as we have seen others do the same in our neighborhood. They picked up the bin but left the stuff on the side. I called and they said it costs extra to pick up the stuff outside the bin and that they wouldn't even pick it up today! The lady was rude and didn't even care to act with any compassion or empathy. This company is run by a bunch of rude, disrespectful people! I have been a customer for 15 years. When I discovered that my neighbor pats less for her 95 gallon bins than I do for my 65 gallon bins (and has been for several years) I called and asked for 1. Same price as her and upgrade to a bigger bin and 2. Some sort of credit for this. I was offered $1 off my next bill....1 DOLLAR!! Are you freaking kidding me? Terrible service! They tell us the bins must be at the curb by 6:30 am but they don't roll through the neighborhood until mid or late afternoon. Every week I am out there picking up garbage from the lawn because all the cans blow over. If we don't pick it up, the service won't touch it. The neighbors received one of the service's passive aggressive notes stuck in their bin because the lid was sticking up slightly. I got one because the bins weren't at least 3 feet apart. If you have the option of choosing ANYTHING else, do it. Unfortunately, we are stuck because Shakopee chose them for citywide collection. Cheapest is NEVER best! read more

We've been customers for almost a year and I have nothing but great things to say! I went to pay an overlooked bill a few months ago, wasn't able to pay it online so I called the customer service and she told me exactly what I was doing wrong without judgement for being late! So friendly and helpful, I gave never encountered that with any other company! I switched from "the big guys" because of the lower prices and have been very pleased. Around the holidays they leave a voicemail reminding you of next day service, and today due to inclement weather they called to say they'd be here tomorrow! They did not pick up my recyclables. I ALWAYS put my can out the night before. Called to tell them they did not pick it up and they told me I had to prove it was out there the night before. We recently moved into a small townhome association a year ago. LSI has provided us with good service. I've called in to inquire about getting Move in boxes recycled, special pickups and a cart repair. Customer service reps have always been courteous and professional. I saw some unfavorable reviews on google.... all I can say is...... "Stupid is as Stupid does"! It's often a thankless job taking away someone's smelly trash and recycling, let alone some rude person calling and yelling as if it's the end of the world because the driver didn't pick up the extra junk you have on the ground around the cart. Hello???? A work order is required so that when they pick up your extra trash and charge accordingly... you can't come back at the company and deny you had the stuff out there! Very windy, bad weather for the last two days. Got home last night to trash & recycling containers all over the place - lawns, streets, everywhere. Spent an hour picking up the neighborhood and my recycling container was MIA. Called Dick's this morning and talked to a very rude Ashley to advise of the issue. Her reply was "we are not in control of the weather.... and will charge you for a new container". Asked to speak to the manager or owner - she said "well, the owner is not here.....". I have no idea how there are no other reviews for Dick's Sanitation/DSI/LSI. Our garbage service is horrible! Last week, I watched the guy remove stuff from my garbage bin and throw it on my lawn. I had to clean the broken pieces out of my lawn in order to mow and then they charged us extra for this. If the top of the garbage bin is even an inch open, he leaves us a nasty note on the garbage bin. A couple of months ago, they took our curbside stuff that I had listed on Craigslist and had a FREE note on the doors. They were nowhere near the garbage can and then they charged us $70 for pickup of the stuff that we didn't even want removed. I'm fed up with this and would switch companies if Shakopee didn't require that we use Dick's! Don't use this service unless you like being charged more at random times and picking your garbage out of your lawn! read more

We have used Dick's Sanitation / LSI for five years now and had nothing but good luck with them. Always have everything picked up- including extra stuff that I stick out at the last minute. They always take my recycling- even when I have extra next to the bin since it wouldn't all fit. Also great customer service. Many times if you live in a association don't have a choice of who use for trash pick up or recycle pick up. We are in an association so we cant choose! 2 Rating for Regular Waste Pick Up . Often containers not empty and if still upright a bonus 0 Rating for Recycle Pick Up. Never completely empty. In 25 years of service from Dick's Sanitation we had one issue of a missed pick up for yard waste. We have never had a mess left outside of our cans. When I recently ordered a construction dumpster I was met with total courtesy and respect from the representative that set me up. The gentlemen that pick up our garbage, recycle and yard waste are always friendly and courteous and introduce themselves when we are outside. I would not use this company. One of there drivers while on the highway merged into my wife, clearly there fault, and the driver admitted it on the scene. Information was exchanged and the police were called. My wife was then contacted by their insurance company claiming it was her fault and that there was no damage done to their truck, of course not, how is a Honda Accord going to leave a mark on a big steel truck. Supposedly they are the only locally owned option, which I value. Service is consistent, and our guy swings back around 20 minutes later if you forget to put the bin out on time. I have called 6 different people at the City of Northfield today and left messages, so far none have them have picked up or returned my call. This all stems from my complaining about their new garbage disposal service which the city used Waste Management in which we had never had an issue for 17 years of living in Northfield. Now that they have switched to Dick's Sanitation they have gone from throwing our garbage out of our can because of it sticking out of the top slightly to telling us now that everyone in our neighborhood has to haul their garbage 150 yards and place it on highway 19 due to a safety issue driving up our driveway. Apparently it is safer to have 10 garbage/recycling cans on 19 and a garbage truck stopped out on a highway than it is to drive up a driveway. Once again, FAIL Dick's Sanitation. So if you are a municipality I would suggest looking at other sanitation services read more
