I ordered 7 different wires from west marine. The ordering process was very easy although when I…read morerecieved my package, I found out that one of my wires was cut at 3ft, and the other 27ft would arrive another day, I ordered it as a solid 30ft strand. I contacted customer service about the issue and they sent my money back for the 1 strand that was cut. The next day I recieved most of the other wire that I needed. The other wires were packaged as if they had no concept of handling wire. None of it was rolled up, it looked like they had just shoved it inside the box and called it good. I spent well over an hour going through all of the other wire and de-tangling it. I will be measuring it to see if they actually sent me the correct length of wire because I doubt that they did. I added pictures of what the mess of wire looked like. Instead of them taking 30 seconds to coil the wire while they pulled it off the reel and taping it, they did this....

Amazing! We took…read moreour boat to Destin for family trip. The place we rented had boat dock but no launch/ramp. We used Destin Marina to launch from. They have a nice and small convenience store for ice, drinks, and misc items. There is gas at the end of the dock. There are picnic tables in the back. This came in handy to keep the kids occupied while launching the boat. Normally the wife pulls the truck off ramp and parks the trailer. At this marina, there were plenty of workers/dock helpers that helped the husband with all this. Having these young men helper is as such a blessing and added bonus. We made sure to tip them. There is also an indoor restroom close by that is clean and spacious and made a great family changing room. You literally leave the marina and pull right onto Crab Island.

Deck hands took off my boat and docked it while I drove 100yrds to D&J Dry storage ( see my review for Susan at D&J) walked back to pier and deck hand fueled my boat, paid for fuel and $20 launch fee and was off. They have everything you need. Fuel, bait, beer, ice, snacks, water, drinks and plenty of place to dock. Current can be swift here so have dock lines tied to boat so they can take it off trailer by hand and never get out of your truck. Or show everyone your boating skills and back it off yourself bumping and scraping the pier and not tip the young guys trying to make a dollar for the summer. I do that enough back home in GA where we have an 8' tide swing not 8" like in Destin. When I am on vacation I treat myself like the rich guy I'm not and let servants do the work. Just makes life enjoyable. Beside no one will go home and tell their friends about the amazing boat handler they watched in Destin.

I am not one to post negative reviews, however this experience warrants it. I will add that I e-mailed the charter in an effort to address our experience and they have opted to not respond so I am happy to share our negative experience publicly. Funny how they respond quickly when you are booking a trip, but fail to respond if there is an issue to be addressed post trip. Our trip was scheduled to depart at 7am, however the boat was not prepared for departure and we did not get under way until 7:52am. Our Captain (Jeff) did not have the boat fueled, he did not have ice, nor bait ready for our trip. While "fueling" the boat, he managed to fill the fresh water tank reservoir with gasoline, requiring the marina to subsequently pump the gasoline out before we could depart. Obviously this did not instill confidence as to the captains boating capabilities or familiarity with the boat. Since we opted to place our personal possessions into the china toilet cabinet, all of our personal belongings ended up reeking of fuel vapors. After preparing the boat for our "fishing" trip, Jeff had to make yet an additional detour to obtain ice and bait for the trip. I will add he only obtained 20 bait fish for the entire trip. Knowing the complexity of the ocean and the likelihood that one will go through a lot of bait while trying to catch fish, why would you only get 20 baitfish and then put several of the baitfish on the hook in whole instead of preparing cut bait??? Being an avid fisherman, it is important to match bait size to hook size. If the fish are stealing the bait, put smaller pieces of the bait on the circle hooks so they can't just rip it off and they have to actually take the bait....or switch to J hooks. Now that we have finally spent an hour and a half of our morning anxiously awaiting for Jeff to have the boat ready for the fishing trip, we finally get under way. After getting to our first fishing spot, Jeff informed us we would be using three rods for our four person fishing trip until he got us on some fish.....which never happened. Since the captain invested in cheap fishing gear, there was an issue with one of the reels while attempting to land a fish and we only "fished" with three rods for the remainder of the trip. Should have been more prepared for this I would think. Without exaggeration, we literally had our lines wet and in the water for less than 30 minutes for the entire five hour "fishing" trip. In full disclosure, there were dolphins following the boat and made fishing a bit more difficult. Jeff would put us on a spot and we would drop our lines a couple times and we would again move to a new location which could take an extensive amount of time. We literally fished 4 spots the entire trip and I am not exaggerating when I say we only had our lines in the water for 30 minutes total. This is unacceptable! I hope anyone who takes the time to read our review will not have the same negative experience we did. Since we reside in Texas, we based our decision to use this charter after reading the posted reviews. We now realize our experience did not mimic that of others. You would think the charter would want to address our experience, but it seems they got their money and they are moving on to the next. I wish future customers the best!

not good at all. 51yr old Life long Destin resident since 1974 and have owned and worked on…read morenumerous vessels. took my boat in for a new steering cable and helm install. easy fix, right? when I got the boat home realized the gauges weren't working and found they had pulled several wires loose pulling the steering cable and didn't bother reconnecting them so there was no power on the dash and no stere. then I took the boat out and launched it into the water only to realize they put the steering cable in wrong and it sent me in the wrong direction almost causing an accident at the dock. I tried calling twice and left messages with no return call for weeks. finally called a third time and talked to Todd the manager who didn't seam bothered or apologetic in any way. he never called me back either. just some young guys pick up the boat and then drop it back off later with again an unconcerning attitude like they were bothered by the whole thing. was in the driveway when they pulled in and yelled F**K real loud cause they saw me. you can't be more unprofessional and out right disrespectful to people and their personal property. I will tell this story for a long time and will not be returning or recommending the Ships Chandler anymore.
