Shopping for fishing rods today, and found sale on selective items, however they have many brands to choose from. Fitness clothings are not much sale. We ended up buying a fishing rod, protecting netting, floats and few hooks. The cashier lady was patient and friendly, even though we had her reverse transaction once because we found our club card after the first transaction. The overall shopping experience was good, no pressure or overly attentive service, so we had taken all the time we needed to decide our choice. The restrooms cleanness can be improved, and the fitting room availability could be more pronounced though. read more

Terrible service do not go here. After spending time in the store with sales, settled on a putter. Went to the register to purchase and was told they could not sell (computer would not let them). Every Dick's I've ever been in is chronically understaffed and if you're "lucky" enough to find anyone who works there, they're completely unhelpful. The rudest and most nasty employees I have ever encountered. Went to my local Dick's in Brick and they didn't have a tire tube in stock that I needed. Called Freehold before driving an hour to their store and got transferred to the bike department. Some guy named Joe claimed if I got here within the hour he could fix it for me. Show up with my bike, and Joe pops the tire off. I asked if he could take my fenders off to which he replied that's "too much work". alright. Well another customer came over and asked if there were ping pong tables in stock. Joe proceeded to leave me holding up my bike with no tire on it for 30 minutes to go help this customer in a completely different department. I could've went to my local bike store to pay the same price and get completely better customer service. Won't ever return here just for that reason. read more

I've only been in dicks sporting goods a few times. This location is awesome to the point of where they have everything imaginable that you could need. With that said... It is 2 floors of awesomeness located by freehold raceway mall. Parking is plentiful. BUT...prices are absolutely ridiculous..seriously. I can go to walmart or their competitor and get the same things half the cost or less of what they are charging. Okay I get their name brands Nike, Columbia etc...but I shouldn't have to take out a loan to buy a pair of sneakers. They do have adorable work out apparel and jackets but not for those prices. Can get them cheaper elsewhere. Most of the employees looked disgruntled (probably from having nothing to do) and were not helpful at all. Now what's with only carrying a HUGE selection of mens sneakers and a minisucle selection of womens sneakers? We work out too. Literally a small section of wall was offered for us, while the mens was huge. As for their sales that was a joke. Marked down $75? Wth!! I'm buying sneakers not gold plated shoes..their going to wear out in 3 to 4 months..okay the only thing is saw that was a good thing was the fact that they had odd stuff for sports etc..hard to find things if you dont mind paying an arm and a leg and a few toes...geeesh!! I went here looking for insoles for my shoes and I was disgusted with what I saw. Most of the insoles' boxes were returned and put back on the shelf for purchase. Kind of gross during these covid times. I put it back and left. I'm surprised that a big chain like this place would do that. Also, their workers are wearing chin diapers, meaning their masks are on their chins instead of over their nose and mouth. I don't care if they're vaccinated or whatever reason they've got. I watched other employees and a manager walk by and just the ignore the line. At some point, wouldn't you figure it's time to ask other ppl to ring up. Unbelievably overpriced, POOR service (despite an overflow of employees in every square foot of the place). These experiences support my review. First, while shopping for a hydroflax, we picked up one that had clearly already been used. It had the name jack handwritten on the bottom but a tag over it. We turned it into the staff. About a month later when we went back in, my daughter found it on the shelf. She also noticed that the initials JK were on the small silver round circles of the lid. I checked the bottom, and they had reshelved the same bottle! Two, I ordered 2 items online. I went to pick them up, but they were not ready. I was asked to come back in a few hours. I did. The girl saw me and went over to the in-store pick-up area. She retrieved one of my items. Then she charged me for it. When I said I already paid online, she said I did not, because the other item was not ready. I asked if she could make a note that I only picked up one of the two because I needed the item (for my kid). You would have thought I started speaking Greek. She was aggravated and unhelpful. I asked for a manager. The manager had an attitude! No eye contact, no going out of his way to understand what was going on, all he kept saying was "did you get a notice that the order was complete?" I had not, but I had been told to come back, and the girl had picked up one of my items at the in-store pick-up desk, making me think that they were working on it. It escalated from there and it should not have. If the first girl knew what she was doing and had a good attitude if the manager had been courteous and respectful, the incident would not have escalated and I, and my family would continue to shop there in a pinch. Then I received a notice that my order was canceled because they did not have the items (??!!!) There was a 10$ off code, so I was going to order online. But the code does not work!!! Now, I have been on with their chat to figure that out and the level of efficiency and ignorance is not surprising at all. How does this company survive?! Everything here is pretty overpriced. Majority of the items I found pretty quickly selling for less at online competitors or elsewhere. I never saw a better price but I did find a lot of exact price matches. Don't be deceived by the sales u less it is the deep discount items from the prior season. They do keep the store nice and clean though and the way they have the place set up really makes you wanna walk through each section and poke around. Location wise it's right next to the Freehold mall , the restaurant side. Pretty easy to get to from route 9. read more

Would rather have went online to buy product we ended up buying there because it was supposed to be a gift and we are under time constraints for getting it. While Dick's is a huge retail sporting good store they only match prices of competitors when you provide a flyer from the competitor, they don't match online pricing, and they didn't have the item we originally went there for. We were looking for a basic version of camping cooking pots and all they had was the upgraded version. We could find it online for ~55 and in store we payed ~70 dollars. Their selection of men's slowpitch softball bats is also pretty meager. Would rather go to an online retailer for that as well. I'm thinking brick and mortar stores need to come up with something to be more competitive with online retailers, because honestly unless I need to try something on, I'm going online for all I can anymore, especially if they won't match prices. On the plus side we met an associate who was very helpful with trying to locate another Dick's nearby that had the item we wanted, but none of those stores had it either. I'd shop here again, but only if in a similar situation where I was pressed for time on the gift. read more

This is Freehold's best sporting goods store because its Freehold's only sporting goods store. Its a strange set up, different than any other Dicks I've been in with less merchandise. This stores greatest asset is its floor help. It used to be pretty lousy but lately its been great, if you can find someone. Their prices are pretty high too. You can do better at Wal-Mart for most items. As far as equipment goes, the quality is probably a little better than Wallymart but you'll have to decide how much you want to spend. Its your money. The things I have purchased here have been good and held up well. The selection is also pretty good here too. It is a sporting goods store, after all. Supposedly they are a NJ Wildlife License agent. I came here a few years ago to buy a fishing licence and was told they don't do that anymore. Today I was buying something and a guy that works here told me they actually do issue licenses here but their machine is broken. So who knows. This is a fun place to wander around. They carry a ton of stuff....hunting, fishing, running, camping, cycling, general sports, exercise equipment, they have a lot! Amazon usually has better prices but when Dicks puts something on sale its often cheaper than Wallymart or Amazon, so it can be hit or miss. If you need decent sporting good equipment, its worth stopping by. The quality is good and if you time it right the prices ain't too bad. read more

I dunno I mean it just seems like every time I go here, I realize that shopping here is a pain in the butt. It's unfair to acknowledge their sheer size, inventory, selection, and layout but the prices are always at the high end of the range like a sweatshirt is $55 and I just bought one the other day at Nike Outlet I think for $25 or so, and I'm pretty sure their the same maybe a little different. What really blows is the line you have to wait in. Today's line was just flat out comical; people were seriously just laughing about it which is nice as opposed to dropping the stuff and walking out. And what's a real pisser is they had like 5 or 6 registers open but nobody on them. Such a wonderful store, stocked with tons of great sporting goods items. The staff that minds the shop, however, is downright awful. I was looking for new running shoes, and I received no assistance from the staff. I felt like it was an inconvenience to even get the shoes from the back, which was slow at best. It was laughable. I honestly don't know how customer service at Dick's can survive at such a low common denominator. I'm going with 3 stars here only because the last two cashiers were very personable, efficient, & friendly. Prices here are generally steep, however they have some decent sales weekly so I'd recommend perusing the physical or online circular. I buy my target ammunition here that goes on sale periodically. They have fairly extensive fishing and gun departments so that's good. I have to relate an incident that occurred here this winter not long after New Years. While attempting to purchase ammo, this surly attendant in the gun department retrieved my future purchase from the locked cage and brought it up to the counter. Now if you've never done this before, you need to produce your driver's license and firearm ID card. He looks at me and when I don't respond, extends his hand out waving in a "gimme" motion, saying nothing. When I didn't respond fast enough, he continued with the hand gesturing and uttered, "ID". In shock I produced my credentials. At that point I then took the ammo to the cashier. Finally the extent of this insult hit me and reported his sorry ass to the manager. I will say I returned to the gun department again and have gotten courteous attendants. By the way the last time I went I got Mr. Friendly again. At least this time he was civil. read more

I'm not sure what it is with Dicks Sporting Goods. Every time I go there they have a good selection and usually have all that I need. I just can't say that I have run into staff that is friendly. I don't want to rag on anyone but overall I've just not had positive experiences. I had to purchase from one department in particular and the employee that was in charge of the department I overheard complaining to another employee about customers when I approached. He then went on to help me and rushed me around the store. I went to ask him another question and it was to late he was walking away. During our short conversation he asked me a question and when I answered he came back with "that's not what I asked you". As I said I'm not sure what it is with this location. I get a ton of coupons in the mail and they never don't have what I need. Just not all that helpful when I'm there. Hopefully it gets corrected as from other reviews you will see I'm not the only one that's run into this issue. Go elsewhere if you don't know exactly what you need. read more

Finally got to the department I needed and that man was even nastier and miserable than the the 2 ppl that hung up on me. Large Flagship store, bright,clean,well stocked and merchandised,featuring all the brand names at decent prices.... So why only two stars? and believe me I'm being rather generous here. Just a brief scan at the balance of the reviews on this page will offer a hint. Service folks....Service. It's all fine and good to have a associate at the door greeting you with a smile and a flyer but follow through with the theme,train your people to actually give a damn about your customers and if you can't train them, find ones you can. After 30 years in retail I am a firm believer that staff take their cues from management and if this be the case I venture that there is a rapid turn over of managers at this location. Worst customer service ever! I was trying to buy multiple kayaks, but employees did not want to help me find the right one. They only had one kayak in stock, but since I wanted to get more than one of the same style I asked an employee to check what the availability was like at other dick's stores and his answer was to call a different store. Of the big box sporting goods store Dick's is my favorite. Big well stocked stores that usually have what I am looking for. The Dick's in Freehold is a Super Store with 2 levels. While I would not buy a bike here and the swimming section is kind of light they do have big shoe and work out clothing departments that are well represented by the usual manufactures. The 2nd floor has a big hunting and fishing section. I don't do either but I still browse. read more

Alex" is on of the managers at the Freehold store. We had an issue with Cleats and he was professional and courteous and attended to our problem like the problem solver and people person he is. It speaks to the management at Dicks Freehold that they chose to put this man up front to represent the location and steer the ship. It's a 30 min drive and East Brunswick is closer but I will only shop at Dicks Freehold from now on because "Alex" is there. Give this man a raise! He's a franchise MVP! This place is my go to store for anything sports related. I used to get my baseball equipment here and I loved it. The staff is always helpful. They got everything here.
