If you need ammo, this place is OK I guess. A better option is Bulkammo.com. They sell what you need for less, ships to your house and you don't have to deal with employees an ownership that seems annoyed to serve its customers. If you need advise on weapon selection, look elsewhere. They should remember sometimes customers come in a bit intimidated by the whole gun experience. They shouldn't make people feel stupid for not knowing everything. Take time to educate them in a non-insulting way. I find their approach to customers offensive and rude. I for one won't be going back. Its a shame really. I've lost track on how much I've spent here. My money and I deserves way better treatment than Cheyenne. You do to. read more

I am a regular customer at Cheyenne and have purchased a handgun, ammo, primers, ammo boxes, gun cases, cleaning supplies, and magazine. THE GOOD: they have a great selection of products and merchandise and if you go during the week (MON-THURS) you can usually get quick service. THE BAD: Prices of primers are very high - service on the weekend is very slow and disorganized, some of the staff can be very rude and dismissive and at times almost demeaning. Recently i have a bad experience which has made me start looking for somewhere else to shop. I purchased a handgun from them and they inputted the model number incorrectly on the permit. When I went back to them with the firearm and paperwork - they gave me a run around about how i will never have a problem and i should not worry about. Even after escalating to the store manager they refused to correct the permit. They have left me no choice but to escalate to the state police and file complaint against them with the ATF. read more

Just drove 45 minutes from Toms River waited in line 12 minutes to be helped, 3 men working behind gun counter helping people. Older gentleman helping me he was patient, but speedy advised him i was looking to purchase a scope as well. I was then called to the west wall counter and they were reaching up for the perfect scope suggestion. I was advised of power, rectile they just spoke were mounting it and bore siting it for you. I was walked to the register and cashed out being told every stem . Gun purchase first Tom then the scope and rings. I own 14 rifles,6 shotguns, 8 hand guns and all purchased at over 5 locations. After the 12minute wait I had never been handled so well purchasing a long gun and not having to ask the employee do anything. I will surely return. Went in to purchase some 225NATO ammo. Store had a lot of merchandise, probably because no one is buying from them. Old guys behind counter could barely look at me. I asked if they would recommend any local shooting ranges and they said that they have no idea...they work in a gun shop and don't know of any shooting ranges...who are you hiring? The staff need to get the chip off their shoulders and get over themselves if they want the store/sport of shooting to survive. Shooting is a great hobby and people like the staff that work here are part of the reason for the bad rep that gun owners get. Also, the price was about $5 higher for a box of ammo than other gun stores so not worth it overall. I do not recommend. read more

I came here to buy a crossbow for my son. They had a decent selection and we tried out a couple before settling in on a model that fit him nicely. The salesman, Joe, was very patient and very knowledgeable. The store has tons of outdoor merchandise. Clothing, scent control, cases, ammo. They were very well stocked and their prices actually looked pretty good. They have a great selection of firearms. I looked at their pistol selection briefly and their pricing seemed competitive. The only down side was that the store seemed understaffed. A guy was waiting behind us as we looked over the crossbows. He was patient but I was aware he was there and felt kind of bad. Eventually someone came over to help him but it made me uncomfortable. In all it was a good experience. I've been coming to Cheyenne Mountain for years, never have I had an issue with the service there up until recently. I brought my bows in several times and have had work done on them. This past time prior to a trip to Colorado I had it worked on, some shims in the cams were off and were moved, little did I know one was left out and I took it on my trip, I probably put a dozen arrows through it without a problem, it felt funny on the draw but not so much that it was a concern. On the second day of my trip I had a derail on a shot which blew up my bow. Limbs, cams, modules, and strings were shot. When I brought it back in I tried to show what happened to it but it seemed like selling me somebody's used bow was a little more important than checking out my problem. Then come to find out after I wasn't interested that the repairs were going to cost $500. Not happy with this especially since prior to bringing it in I've put thousands of arrows through it with no problems what so ever. If we aren't going to recognize the error and fix the problem properly they aren't getting my business and my friends and family who shopped here will not be doing the same. read more

I would give this shop a 6 star review if I could. I was in the store today and everyone was extremely professional. Tony was nice enough to assist me with purchasing my first ever Bow. I told him I was new to the sport and I did not know much. He took the time to show me a couple of Bows and give me the pros and cons. I could tell he was very knowledgeable. They always act like you're bothering them for giving them business. And the one day they turned me down at 7:50 when they close at 8:00. Would've taken me 2 minutes to buy the ammo I needed. Unfortunately, I had gone to Cheyenne's three times because they were the closest business to me. All three times I had rude, ignorant people helping me. I am a first time gun buyer - I went into the store without really having any clue - and I was made to feel as if I was an inconvenience. The first time, I was told my gun license was wrong because "the police don't know anything" (meanwhile I have since purchased a firearm at another location with no issues) and they refused to even answer my questions until I had provided all necessary documentation. Cheyenne's new store is awesome. It has one of the largest selections of everything outdoors in Central NJ. They have a great stock and variety of rifles, pistols and shotguns. They have a very educated staff that is willing to spend time with you. The reason for 3 stars. I wish they would hire more staff for the gun counter, I was in about a week ago with a friend and waited almost 30 minutes to look and buy a rifle. I know it is hard to anticipate a crowed but it was 10 am on a Tuesday. I also think that they are slightly over priced. Expect to pay $50-$75 more for a gun. This estimate is based on what other local shops are selling for and not online prices. I purchased handguns and a AR-15 and 1000`s rounds of ammo, targets, etc. Joe is the only Nice salesperson that explains everything makes you feel comfortable., If your not an expert on guns they do not make you feel comfortable asking questions. Hurry up and get out I think is their motto. Maybe a smile or two would help. Also, they are a little pricey. They Never explained about if they don`t have it that they can get it and how that works. I hate to say it, but I had a better experience buying my fishing license from Walmart last year. When I arrived, I stood in line at the front counter behind a few customers who were making firearms purchases. At least two times a gentleman came up to talk to Cheyenne, and never so much as acknowledged me or any of the other customers. I guess they don't appreciate people patronizing their business. At any rate, while I was there a few other people got in line behind me, and the gentleman right behind me put some things on the counter. When the person in front of me was done, Cheyenne completely ignored me and started talking to the man behind me. He told her I was there first, and she asked if what was on the counter was mine. I told her no, I just wanted to buy a fishing license. She asked for my phone number, confirmed my name, asked if I needed a trout stamp then rang me up. After I signed the slip, she told me to wait over by the computer and pointed to a computer at the other corner of the counter. Well, I stood there for close to 15 minutes while she waited on four other people who were making purchases involving either firearms or hunting equipment. When they were gone, she was then answering the phone, looking at her computer, and using the phone to talk to other employees in the store about the status of people waiting to be cleared to buy a weapon. Finally I said "Excuse me, but what exactly are we waiting for?" Her reply "Who are you?" I told her I was the guy waiting for a fishing license and she finally got off her stool, and came over to get my license, part of which included me needing to supply my SS# which she asked me for verbally - with several people in earshot - instead of giving me the chance to write it down. Bottom line, if you're not buying something expensive, they clearly don't care, because throughout the whole time I was there, not one employee said hello, or asked if there was anything they could help with, and Cheyenne's disposition was surly at best. Incidentally (and I knew this going in) while they sell the licenses, they don't sell the bait, instead they want you to drive 5 miles north to their other store (which doesn't sell licenses, but carries ALL the fishing supplies) to get that. Makes perfect sense. Seriously, Walmart was faster and better to deal with. I won't go back. read more
