Completely unacceptable experience here. I was the only customer in the shoe department. I waited over twenty five minutes, hoping to try on several pairs of shoes in my size. Two young employees in the shoe department were focused on restocking; after fifteen minutes of waiting, I asked one of them for assistance. (I also heard on one of their radios that someone was waiting for assistance in the shoe department. That'd be me - the only customer in the shoe department.) The two young employees avoided eye contact and the one I asked for help from told me the other employee would help me - I waited another ten minutes and neither stopped restocking to help me. I felt invisible, and angry, that I even bothered driving the 30 minutes it took to get here. I was planning on buying at least two expensive pairs of shoes for the upcoming school year - but alas, I'll be looking elsewhere. Not sure if the pressure to restock is so great from higher-ups or if the two young workers were simply avoiding working with customers. Either way, I will NEVER be back in this Dick's as there is clearly something wrong in this location. Looking at the other Yelp reviews, I'm not the only one with a bad shoe department experience. There's a good selection of athletic wear, shoes, and equipment with lots of staff. I think the biggest challenge here is that a lot of the associates are young and maybe haven't received training on customer service and where everything is located in the store. As long as you know that, level your expectations and get what you need in store. Otherwise, order online. read more

Their ads are misleading. I just received a $20 off $100 purchase using their app. I opened the app, and purchased six items, but no discount was applied because EVERY item was on their "exclusion list" . I started looking at the exclusion list, and it included over fifty brands. Probably 70% of what they sell. I'm done with them. read more

Went in for shoes a few months back. The store was already busy during this time which somewhat makes up for the 20 minute wait time just to get my desired shoe. A nice male worker assisted me with questions and different sizes. He also helped me try and order the right size online (since they don't have them in person). The website wasn't working on the desktop he was using so he said I can order them up front with another worker. Went up front just for the fat lard of a manager to complain that he shouldn't have sent me up front on the walkie talkie. He then told me to leave and just order them on the website because he doesn't want to do it. Maybe HE should leave and get some cardio in while he's at it ! read more

Dick's Sporting Goods, Ashburn, Virginia was an AWFUL employer for me. Ultra - low pay, rude, surly Managers. Impossible demands on staff to keep store ultra-clean, have 100 % product awareness, requirements to answer every customer question with thorough product knowledge and extreme, bend over courtesy. While a lot of the products are quite nice, most of them are foreign made. Women's clothing sizes are ridiculoulsy tiny sizes in most clothing items. Low quality @ high prices. I only worked here (3) three months, I could not take the Managerial rudeness, the high demands to sell, sell, sell, and sell more. People do not have extra, spending abilities with the costs of heat, houisng and food so high in 2023, yet this store and its Manager's are so under pressure to keep costs low and prices super high that thye have lost the real prime directive in this company. Company salaries are appalling for floor staff. read more

I'd been searching for a large sports bag after my luggage got damaged in transit (thanks, BA!), but had been having trouble getting something of the right size without having to order it online. Dick's website said they had one, but in the first store we tried they didn't have it in store. This branch was a spur-of-the-moment visit as we were actually here to visit Trader Joes, but within a couple of minutes a very attentive sales person had established my requirements and led me to the correct aisle, where they actually had a bag in stock that ticked all the relevant boxes - hurrah! I wonder if they can post on their website, they are renovating. Drove down from home, over 30 miles one way, to get some golf clubs regripped. Walking in store, place is in total disarray, and under renovations, for who knows how long. Was told they are not offering golf club services at this time. Just a heads up to fellow golfers. Either you need to go to Concord store or go to golf warehouse for your golf needs, which is what I did. You can buy new clubs or golf balls, I think, but that's about it. read more

Been here a few times. The store is loaded with clothing, lots of name brands but not a lot of 2XL or. 3XL sizes. This makes it difficult for shopping for large upper body people. I have purchased and returned a few sports injury items. The sizes say one size fits most. Well, for knee compression, the largest size is XL, knee up to 19-inches. Problem with that is the quadriceps could be larger, like for me. So the compression doesn't fit and they don't carry any larger sizes. I was told to try online. Huh? Can't you order a 2XL for me? Nope. Second floor also has a lot more clothing and also a lot of fitness equipment. Prices are reasonable. I recommend you get the Dicks card. If you want to return something and forget your receipt, they can look you up easily. Dicks is a huge step up from EMS which is nearly around the corner and comparably similar to Sports Authority. Although I think SA is cheaper and more selections to choose from. Depends on what you are looking for. Friendly staff and helpful when you need them. read more

OMG! If there is one ounce of collective brains there, I'd be shocked. Its been YEARS since I've been put into a Phone-hold comedy cycle. I was literally bouncing from department to department when the hold-time on my call hit the limits. I was calling to find out info about a Kayak...just a simple "is it available" question. Instead I was bounced to someone who started telling me about a Columbia Jacket, and the "who are you holding for" lady. Finally got to the right department. I asked my question. "ummmmmm.....lemme put you on hold for a minute." Then I got the "Thank you for calling Dick's Shorting Goods, how may I help you" lady. Seriously! That sort of dip-wad behavior is from the 1970s. read more

We have not been as impressed with their level of retail sales professionalism in a very long time - with every single employee that we interacted with. I have been in B to B sales for 30 yrs, my wife was in retail management and we often have conversations about shopping experiences - not that we feel that we are critical, we simply appreciate a positive customer experience. We were at the Portsmouth store twice in the last weekend and we left believing that not only were they the best trained sales team, they seemed to truly enjoy their work. Friendly, inviting, engaging and well informed. We could call out name tags that we remember though we do not want to exclude anyone! We left feeling like we were shopping at a small locally owned business - that had everything! We live about 6 miles away, we highly recommend shopping here and we would easily travel much further to return. read more

***Update I received a call from the actual Manager (Not Corey). He was apologetic for the way my shopping experience went. He stated he will look further into this and provide the proper training where needed. He will also be reminding them that their customer service should remain at high levels even when he is not in the store. I will add 1 star for following up. Dick's might have a good selection and reasonable prices, but their employees are less than helpful. We've only come across 2 nice people there - both cashiers. When asking for help one male staffer wasn't nice and really scared my kids. On another trip I had to take my 4 year old to the restroom - which is located in the gun section! While I was helping my son the staff grilled my girls on why they were there, but they were waiting outside the restroom door for me! Since it's the largest selection for athletic supplies I feel I have no choice but to shop there. I wish there was another large sporting goods store in the area so that I could pick up everything I need in one location. read more

Dick's is a better bet than EMS down the street. It's a large store with tons of brands. Things are easy to find and even though I didn't find what I was looking for at Dick's, I felt like it was worth the effort to go. read more

Complete knuckle-heads in the shoe department. I don't think they realize they are there to help customers. We went there specifically to buy my son some basketball sneakers. When I arrived in the department, I asked the young guy there where the youth basketball sneakers were located. He walked me over to the section. Fine. Then he disappeared into the back room. I guess it didn't occur to him that we might have wanted to try a pair. We waited and waited... my mother went to the front of the store to see if she could find a clerk. Meanwhile a different young man emerged from the back room. I requested to try a pair for my son, which he produced. Didn't open the box for us, didn't touch the shoes or help get them on at all. As we were trying to get the shoes on and ask him a couple questions about the various types, he got distracted by another customer. (Mind you they were NOT busy at all). At that point this one also disappeared into the back room never to re-emerge. We tried the shoes, waited, weren't sure (wanted to explore some other options) the guy never came back. At this point I was pretty irate and went up to the front of the store, started ranting to a girl folding some shirts, was overheard by what might have been the manager who radioed back to the kid to inquire. The manager told me to "wait a minute" and by that time I was so fed up I didn't feel they deserved my business. So I walked out. read more

Finally went to a dicks store that I didnt have to wait around for a cashier. There was actually a cashier at the checkout waiting for people, not standing around doing nothing like the other dicks stores I have been too. 4 stars just for that. read more

I have been there many time and spent thousands of dollars there but I decided not to go to this store anymore. I did find the stuff working in the store is not very knowledgeable but I am fine with it. Only thing I cannot tolerant is the attitude this store manager has. He was very rude to me and asked me to leave HIS store (OMG since when a chained retail store became the store manager's OWN store?!!!) I guess the only reason I got treated like this because I am an Asian and of course he is a decent white middle aged male with nice dress shirt and carefully shaved face. Went here to buy a rifle that was on sale at a good price. They didn't know how to fill the forms out correctly. After all the forms were filled out and the background check came back, they said they needed my phone number. I don't have a phone. Its not a Federal requirement and is not legally required, but they would not complete the transaction until I could give them a valid, activated, working number. I had to go to the Concord store to buy the gun. read more
