This store would not honor my NY state issued paper temporary drivers license as a form of Id to look at a knife. The representative argued with me about NY state procedure of giving and reclaiming IDs saying " I've been getting driver's licenses in the state of NY for 40 years and they never took my old ID when I got a new one" I replied by asking " so in that 40 years did you ever renew a out of state license from Texas to NY?!" He quickly stood down but by that time I was done arguing NY state law and left. I will never buy a knife gun or amp from this store again! read more

GET A NEW GOLF SALES PERSON!! I went into Riverhead to talk about a new set of golf clubs as I haven played for 5 years and really wanted to get back into the game. The lead sales person showed me a set of clubs and gave me a price. When I asked some questions - he clearly let me know that answering them was a waste of his time. My experience at Dicks was marked by constantly looking for employees to help me find or try on shoes. I needed to ask if they had a pair of shoes in my size, so I pressed the button which supposedly summoned dicks employees. However, no one came to assist me. I had to settle for a different pair of running shoes. When I got to the cashier, she seemed like she wanted to get ride of me ASAP. Although the employees of Dicks were below satisfactory, their selection of shoes and equipment for all sports was excellent. Great store, little staff. read more

I am writing this with the clear understanding why big box retail stores have fallen out of favor. I drove 45 minutes to Dick's to look at and purchase a pair of $300 PowerBlock dumbbells and other gym equipment to outfit a home gym. I got to the store and walked around the home gym area for 15 mins...didnt see any staff in the area to ask for help. The section with the PowerBlock dumbbells had a bunch of mats piled on it. I looked at different items...nothing had a price, and the shelves weren't even clearly marked to tell you what the prices of the items were. Items were shelved all over the place...so even if there was a price, it was for a different item. An employee finally came over to help. I asked him what the prices of some items were and he had to use a handheld scanner to figure it out...so how could I possibly do that... Lastly, when I asked whether they had the PowerBlock dumbbells he responded that they would have to order them for me. So...online shopping here I come. You know if it is in stock, you know what the price is, and you don't have to waste hours of your time. Sorry Dick's...it was a pretty poor experience. read more

I went to dicks today to buy soccer cleats and have to say I ended buying more than I had intended to. The prices are reasonable and there is a huge selection of merchandise for all sports. Their fishing/hunting sections are especially resourceful and always satisfy. One problem I had was that it was rather hard to find assistance as I was looking for cleats. Yet again, it was 7:00 on Memorial Day :p. If you are looking for any athletic gear, Dick's is the place to go. read more

Came here a few weeks after adding the listing, and it's a nice, albeit unnecessary, addition to a strip with Mo's and TSA. DSG locations tend to stay in good shape, so it's not worth noting its current condition, because the large single-story space is still new. read more

Selection of hunting stuff is ok during the season. Fishing selection is great during the season. The one problem is I'll ask for something specific for example a medium heavy fishing rod and they only stock the mediums so they say but won't check for me when I know there other stores sell those but this is the closest store to me that's why I go here. Also the guy in the outdoor section is a jerk he's always got an attitude. Some how I forgot to post this after I wrote it but I'll update it. Not impressed with this place. Every time I'm looking for shirts their stock on the sales floor is low and I can never find my size. The associates never customer service or greet you when you walk in. The prices are sort of pricey when you can go to Nike and get a better deal. The store also usually is a mess. The cashier with blonde hair and tattoos is rude and I had a question and she shrugged her shoulders and walked away. Not how you should treat a customer. I give two stars because I went there yesterday and Kristy the lady who rang me up was very nice and helpful. I went to buy a pair of sneakers and they had about five pairs of size 7 and 9's. Not any other sizes so I finally found my size then realized that there was only one shoe of the correct size and a size ten! So I asked the manager and she was very rude and seemed to not want to help us. She found the right size but just handed it to us and didn't even say anything. So rude. Also a sales associate named joe was not helpful when I asked him a question and he was on his phone on the sales floor. This place needs to train their staff better and train what to do and what not to do. Not impressed at all. Don't go to this Dicks sporting goods location unless you are desperate. read more

There are two old men at the back hunting & rifle area. One was pleasant enough. The other when inquiring about products and he explained that we didn't carry a product (Which I didn't mind...why would you ever mind) just told me in he didn't really flat out care to engage in any further discussion. Rude...just like that cut me off. I would be inclined to say it's a one off & give the guy a pass, but it's not the first time. Basically as a new hunter.... the vibe is kinda like unapproachable at that counter. Also, inquiries about the merits of two comparable priced shotguns by different manufacturers....Basically, got the brush off. I'm always looking to give someone the benefit of the doubt. maybe he had stock to put out. I understand standing back there and dealing with the public and fielding a million questions from people can be a load to bear. Just show some manners and maybe defer or find another way to excuse yourself from the conversation. read more
