Fantastic scuba diving spot in Long Island, probably the best in New York state. I only just got scuba certified about a year ago and I wanted to do a local dive close to NYC. Not too many options in the five boroughs, but these guys really helped out. Very friendly service, they make sure you practiced a little before you go into the water with their own private pool and they double check to make sure your gear is all set. I dove at the Hampton Springs spot and it was really fun. Though the visibility is a little low underwater, it is a great place to practice and you can still see some stuff below the surface. If you just started scuba diving like me, then definitely come here to refresh yourself or learn firsthand! read more

I chose this location because Captain Chuck (leslie) from Sea Turtle Charters in Montauk recommended it to me after a shark diving trip. I was psyched that Hamptons Dive Center was able to get me in and out within a two week time span I had given them moments before going over seas. They made it happen and worked with my schedule which I whole heartedly appreciated. I felt safe and comfortable in the dive masters care, the breathing apparatus was a little dodgey to me in the beginning, but they took me step by step and within five minutes of using the rebreather, it finally came second nature to me. Thank you guys for getting me in and out with the short time span I had, and thank you for making me feel comfortable. I went out for a guided dive with George today at Old Ponquogue Bridge, and he did a terrific job! I'd heard one good navigation technique was to run a wreck reel from the old bridge if you intend to also swim in the direction of the new bridge. I had no experience running a reel, so George brought his, showed me how to tie it off to a piling or rock, and let me practice several times so that I understood how to do it properly. He also went out of his way to point out little critters. There were butterflyfish that had ventured north from tropical waters, a fluke, beautiful red and green algaes, mating horseshoe crabs and a small white horseshoe crab, and beds and beds of mussels. Near the pipeline, he found a--wait for it--pipefish! (They are relatives of seahorses.) George did a truly excellent job of instructing and guiding. Bonus points: He also gave me some good information about the compass on my dive computer. read more

My son just completed his PADI Open Water Diver course here. The staff was patient with him being all over the place. You get what you pay for with this dive shop, great facilities and rental gear. All the staff are fantastic and seem to be very knowledgeable about scuba diving. read more

I have a recent experience with the folks at the Hampton Dive Center - and it was universally good. First, WRT to the on-site facilities, the place is perfect and fit for purpose. The pool is perfect size to do almost any class with 4-8 divers so confined water work is proximate and easy. The shop is very well equipped, and the staff is knowledgeable with lots of experience with the equipment. The instructors (Ken and Wally) were excellent and have lots of great stories to keep subject matter relevant and interesting. The second day we did open water dives at the site exclusive to HDC - that was great too. I recommend these folks enthusiastically and without reservation. read more

This place is great. I've been numerous times during the off-season and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, nice, and have a true passion for diving. Too often dive shops just want to sell you expensive equipment and things you don't really need. This is not the case here. They are very proud of the whole facility and should be. The pool and equipment are very clean and look to be in great shape. I've compared their prices with other dive shops and online and they seem to be competitive. Some things may be a little higher and some a little lower. The overall selection is wide. Dive safe! read more

Just got there today the trip is from September 9-14 when I got down here the diventer that is doing the charter said I won't be able too dive because I don't have enough dives .after driving 2 days 2 n.c the trip coast 1000 not too mention the money I lost from taking off of work and the money that it coast too drive down here for nothing. Hi Like most people I started out diving in the Caribbean, fell in love, got my open water certification and then... life got in the way for a while. When my brother's wedding came up in Mexico I knew I wanted to go diving but also knew I needed a refresher which is when I stumbled upon Hampton dive. The staff went above and beyond. Not only did we blow through the refresher with their experienced and knowledgeable staff but they also knew about dives to look for in the area and expanded into advanced techniques specific to the sites I'd be seeing. It really made trip incredibly memorable and I fell in love with diving all over again this time vowing not to lose touch again. On my return I immediately signed up for an advanced open water class which again was well staffed very accommodating. First Long Island has incredible diving and I'm sorry I'm sorry I hadn't taken advantage sooner. Second Long Island does pose some challenges but after careful instruction from the staff you leave confident and trained allowing you to relax and enjoy the sites. I came back at the beginning of the next season to purchase a full gear set and again the staff was spot on guiding me to quality equipment that fit my budget. I was eager to finally take my PADI certification course and called a few different places to find out pricing and schedules. The overwhelming welcome I felt just through my first phone call to Hampton Dive Center was a strong indication that I needed to come here. Julie, handled my transition from the website and instructed me on how to handle the elearning process where I would be taking my self paced PADI course. She pointed out some nuances that even though I am a techie would have been very annoying if I hadn't been told. Once I finished the course (and I received a few phone calls from the center to make sure I would be finished with the course before my pool dives would begin), I went to the center for my first pool dive. I was greeted by Ditte who was SO Nice and informative and the owner, Randy helped me pick out my mask! It was just so evident that they were passionate about diving and wanted me to have a great experience with my class and with diving for that matter. The instructor Jason was SPECTACULAR. He was so calm, so intuitive with everyone in the class and most importantly he REALLY explained every step and made sure the entire class was comfortable before we moved on. He also was incredibly patient with the people in the class that were taking a little extra time, or were confused. He followed the PADI guidelines exactly, and referenced them throughout the course. The pool was great, the experience was amazing and I have to share that if you want to get certified to dive, this is the place. They service all of my equipment annually in a fair and timely manor. I trust them fully. In this sport, a poorly serviced piece of equipment can end in tragedy. The Hampton Dive Center was the perfect spot to do my open water dives. Our instructors were great and the Hampton Springs facility was a solid training area (and warmer and more convenient than Dutch Springs, PA). We lucked out with perfect weather and pretty good visibility. After completing the course, I feel very confident about future dives. Julie was so responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. There aren't many options to finish SCUBA certification in the area, but this was hands down the best experience. read more

I've currently had two interactions with this place. The first time, the owner/manager (I'm not entirely sure which he is), an older gentleman, kindly helped me pick out the equipment I needed, and even pointed out some used gear in my size (I'm pretty obviously college-aged, so any funds saved, are a plus). Our transaction went well, but he didn't give me a receipt (something that somehow slipped my mind until a later date). Fast forward a month or so, I realized an item of the used gear is actually uncomfortable for me, and return hoping to exchange the gear for store credit, and buy a more expensive, new piece of gear. At this point, I have no intention of asking for a refund, as I know this is basically impossible without a receipt-- I don't even want a refund! I liked the gentleman and wanted to support his business, which is why I don't mind going back in search of a more expensive, new product. However, here's where my discontent arises. I return to the shop and the manager is not there. I interact with a younger woman who immediately condescends to me. I tell her that the gear does not fit well and she demands that I try it on. Now, I have anxiety, so this entire fiasco is pretty mortifying for me. I come out with it on, she tells me it fits me well, I start to stress cry, then go back to change into my day clothes, defeated. When I come out, another person working there offered me the deal I originally attempted to make upon entering the store. However, being as upset as I was (anyone with anxiety can understand this), I decided to leave and possibly return at a later time. I know this seems silly, but I was about to cry full-on and it's embarrassing to experience in public. The older workers seem okay here, but that young woman just didn't seem to hear my voice or my qualms as the customer. I really like supporting local businesses, so this was a big disappointment, especially after the good first experience I had with the shop. I hope that if I return, my experience improves. read more
