We take our two dogs to the Dickson Animal Clinic for their Doctor Visits and for their boarding, well, recently we had kind of a not so good experience with a groomer, and this really made an impression on me. So, I called Dickson, and got our girls in. Now Blondie, She is a Cairn Terrier, Doxi, Lhasa mixed breed,(I know right?) and Bella is a Shih Tzu, and also only 2 years old until January. We don't know exactly how old Blondie is, we rescued her fully grown but young. Anyhow, so the baby, Bella, looked like one of the grouchy old men from the old Muppet Show, the ones in the balcony heckling. The groomer at Dixon not only fixed her face, she made her so adorable, and her big sister...Oh my goodness!! They are both so precious looking right now, and they smell so clean, not heavily perfumed. Their ears are free of hair paws are trimmed and filed and I am positive that their glands were done. My cat Zeus had been diagnosed with diabetes and the veterinarian here prescribed Senvelgo as the treatment. As a layperson, I was not aware that Senvelgo is a high-risk medication that comes with a black-box warning from the FDA. Cats who take this medication are at high risk for developing diabetic ketoacidosis, which can be fatal. Sure enough, my cat developed it and had to be taken to a local specialty emergency hospital, where he remained for 12 days while they tried to save his life. By the 12th day, we came to the conclusion that the treatment was not working, so we brought him home. We spent over $14k at the specialty hospital in an attempt to save his life. We had him for one night so we could say goodbye, and the next morning, we had a veterinarian come to the house for euthanasia. The veterinarian at Dickson, Dr Ashley Whitesell, is the one who prescribed Senvelgo for my cat. She did not present any other options for treatment and pushed this medication as being the "best choice" for my cat. She also downplayed the high-risk nature of the medication. As a layperson, I did not know any better and took her word for it. The end result is that my cat ended up dead because of Dr Whitesell prescribed a highly dangerous medication and did not adequately warn me of the possible side effects, nor did she offer any other treatment options. I will never go back to this clinic ever again, nor will I ever recommend this clinic to anyone. As a side note, the clinic was made aware that Zeus passed away, and not once did I ever hear from Dr Whitesell. No phone call offering condolences, no email, nothing. She knew she screwed up and was too cowardly to face me. Run free, Zeus. My little BFF cat. We miss you. read more

I have been a client of Dickson Animal Clinic for at least 15 years. With kindness they have helped me with letting all of my precious pets cross the bridge. This last time was the same except it was late like 6:30 pm, day after Christmas and I needed my beautiful dog to go to Charlotte for a necropsy. i asked if they could store his body overnight and I'd pick him up first thing in the morning. My head was spinning and heart shattered. Necropsy lab was closed. What I got was a Big fat no.. "just take him home and put him on the garage floor, he'll stay cool" TAKE HIM AND PUT HIM ON THE GARAGE FLOOR???!! Like he was dirt.. The lack of empathy Dr H showed that evening astonished me. Will definitely be looking for a different practice after this . Sad because the veterinarians and staff are all excellent. Need one with compassion also. I took my new dog here for the first time and the service was great! I had to wait a little longer than anticipated, but otherwise the staff was very helpful and friendly. I did ask about cutting my dog's nails and found out shortly there after that is included in the yearly visit. They gave you a new dog packet with loads of information! I will definitely be back! I always enjoy bringing my family and their pets here for their routine medical care. The practice is always very clean and organized. The staff seems to have the same people working there for a long time so you get to know them beyond a greeting. The veterinarians are extremely knowledgeable and are very friendly. They are always welcoming of any and all questions you may have. They also communicate very quickly through email which is a huge time saver for me. I have a vetenary 2 minutes from my house, however I much rather drive 25 minutes to reach Dickson animal clinic every time because I know my pets and myself receive the best care I have experienced. The staff is super friendly and understanding of everything. They always work fast and hard. They treat you like they've known you for years at your first visit. We tried to make an appointment with our vet that we had been using for over a year for our sick dog and they couldn't get us in until the following week. With his symptoms, we felt as though he needed to be seen sooner than later. We contacted Dickson Animal Clinic at 1:30pm and had an appointment the same day at 3:45pm. Because of several X-rays that had to be taken to check for a suspected blockage, Dr. Hovis and his staff had stayed after hours to make sure our dog was safe to go home. We were also given a way to contact them for an update later that night along with information on Emergency Clinics if we needed immediate care over night. There is currently a dispute over the ownership of a beloved pet. I rescued a dog and gave it to my daughter as a gift. I have paid for all immunizations, neutering, chipping, deworming, heart worm testing, monthly flea and tick medications, monthly heart worm medications, etc. Her boyfriend took the dog to Dickson Animal Clinic once for an injured paw and put his name and information on the records. I took this pet in a few weeks ago for all his updated vaccines at my expense. When I went it to get a second lyme disease preventative shot today, I was informed the owner "the ex-boyfriend listed on the account as "Owner'"must be notified. My problem with this was I was not informed before I was seen by the technician, but after procedures had been performed. I feel I should have been informed of this information upon arrival. This was an underhanded way to handle the situation by the Clinic, especially when you don't have all the facts!!! read more

In early 2020 I took my dog to see Dr. Whitesell. After being a patient of another vet for years I decided to give Dickson Animal Clinic a try after hearing good things. My dog has mast cell cancer off and on the year before so going in I had Dr. Whitesell run a full blood panel to make sure I was not missing any other cancer or looking over anything at all. A week later I received a call that everything looked perfect. Two months later we rushed my dog in the middle of the night to long animal hospital only to find out that he had late stages of lymphoma. After learning of this I called Dr. Whitesell to review the "perfect" bloodwork only to find that his levels were high for lymphoma. After fighting this past year to beat it with chemo at the wonderful CARE vet in Charlotte he lost his fight on Tuesday. He was my best friend in the entire world and now I have to learn to live without him. I only say this in hopes that I can reach people and have them think twice before trusting Dr. Whitesell with your baby. She never apologized and never will. I will be mad at myself forever for trusting her. read more

When we were faced with changing vets 2 years ago I did a lot of research before landing on Dickson Animal Clinic. It was mostly the positive reviews that reeled me in but after our first visit was I hooked. Prior to our first visit Dr. Hovis had taken the time to review and make notes on 10 years(!) worth of vet records for my two dogs which impressed me right away. He is very hands on with the dogs unlike some other veterinarians who seem to let the vet techs do all the 'dirty' work. He asks lots of questions, and actually listens to the answers and involves us in a discussion for the best (and most affordable) course of action in our pets' care. Twice now I have received emails from him outside of business hours in regards to test results. I also appreciate his professional appearance--he takes his job seriously and is very good at what he does and it shows. We have also seen Dr. Whitesell with our cat and gerbil and were very pleased with her pleasantness, professionalism, and thoroughness. I also enjoy the convenience of being able to schedule appointments and prescription refills online. The only downside is the front desk area at times seems overworked and chaotic. Overall I would highly recommend Dickson Animal Clinic. read more

I can't say enough positive things about this establishment. The staff at DAC have been overwhelmingly accommodating throughout the lifespan of our beloved pet. We recently had to put our 14 year old pup down and I couldn't have imagined a more thoughtful, kind, considerate and dignified process. We feel very fortunate to have such a fantastic animal clinic right near our new home here in NC. We have just relocated here from up north, and I have to say this place is amazing. You get happy to see you, friendly greetings as you walk through the door. The staff is very welcoming and have greeted us with smile every time I have visited. We have a new 4 month old german shepard pup, and we also have an almost 5 year old GSD as well. We have seen Dr. Whitesell all 3 visits so far, and we are extremely happy with her. She has good knowledge of our breed and provides us with helpful general knowledge as well. She has been great with Duchess, and she was also fantastic with Duke. Duke is not the most friendliest of dogs and he was not on good behavior during our visit either. She was understanding and very professional about dealing with him.
