Absolutely one of the worst experiences I've had in a pet store GASTONIA NC. A manager was called to the front over and over for at least 30 minutes, and not once did anyone show up. It honestly felt like there was no management in the building at all. There was only one employee visible the entire time a woman stuck running the register while the rest of the store seemed completely abandoned. Customer service was terrible, not because she wasn't trying, but because one person clearly cannot run an entire store alone. What made it worse was the condition of the animals. Several of them looked poorly cared for, and the overall atmosphere gave the impression that basic attention and upkeep are not a priority here. For a place that sells live animals, that is unacceptable. This location feels disorganized, understaffed, and poorly managed. If no one can even respond when a manager is called repeatedly, that says everything customers need to know. read more

I got my shorkie a little over a year ago and I've been taking her to Petco boat in Gastonia and in Florida to be groomed, but my last experience in Gastonia makes me not want to go back, I have so many words not of them postable, so I'll drop a photo/video. We drop our fur babies off and done except to get them back injured or hurt, because we assume the person you're entrusting them with will care for them, this experience has me looking for a groomer that will be patient and not rush because it's the last grooming of the day read more

This store is well stocked, anything you could ever want for your pet. The employees are a different story. The female with multi colored hair, was rude. She didn't speak to me at all. She had to find something for me and she clearly was unhappy about having to leave her register. I tried to talk to her, as I checked out.. such as, I bought some collars for calming. Said I hoped they worked. Not ONE response. Just RUDE. I spent over $200 dollars. She was doing ME a favor. When I arrived at the store, no parking spaces. I parked next to the end car. Naturally, when I went to leave, a delivery truck had arrived.....MURPHY'S LAW!! An employee was out there and informed me twice that I was not in a space. I was wrong for parking there, I know. I wasn't in there long. Employee I guess was guy in charge, was also rude, I apologized, but he persisted in telling me I was blocking truck. I told him about cashier. I said what to you propose. Started lecturing me about space again! I won't be buying anything else at this store, just because of the attitudes of the bearded ponytail guy and female with extremely short, multicolored hair. If they can't be polite to customer, customer can buy on line! Which is what I will do! read more

I get my dog supplies here They have a good selection of harnesses,and most anything else you might need I bought a retractable leash It lasted 60 days. They were happy to exchange it. I love good customer service. read more

Don't waste you're time with the grooming services here! I knew it was a sign when they were the only place in Gaston County with a wide open schedule, but I took my chances. I had an appointment for my two dogs to be groomed, and have never been more disappointed. They refused to groom my smaller dog with a heart murmur without paperwork from her vet clearing her- even with my consent. I've never had this issue with grooming before, so I was unaware and didn't prepare appropriately. If I had been given a heads up prior to the appointment, I would've contacted her vet to receive appropriate clearance. I took her home with me and left my bigger dog chalking this up to miscommunication An hour later I get a call saying my bigger dog is ready for pickup. I call back and let them know we're on our way and they tell me they couldn't groom her because she kept biting them. What?! She has been groomed since she was a puppy and has never even looked sideways at anyone. She goes into the vet alone all the time (thanks Covid) and has never been a problem for them either. I'm not sure what the issue was, but I know my dog has never shown any aggression towards anyone. She has been around countless children, animals, and other adults and has always been on her best behavior. 0/10 recommend wasting your time here read more

This grooming salon is wonderful! My Lola HATES her feet touched and has always been been difficult get her nails done. Elizabeth, the salon manager, is a miracle worker! Okay, so my kids were begging to go in. Do we have a dog? No. Do we want a dog? No, yes, maybe, no. I had to remind my kids that the last time we went in a pet store during a dog adoption their faces and hands got red, itchy and swelled up. Still they insist on going in. This location is only about four months old. Squeaky clean and shiny. They offer grooming and training services here. Pretty much your giant pet store. If you need something for your bearded dragon, they probably have it. For reason kids love to look at fish and hamsters and dream!!! read more

We adopted a little puppy from this Petco last Saturday (3/12/16) and a few days later found out she had a terrible case of worms and was positive for the potentially deadly PARVO Virus. When we asked to speak with the GM he never returned our call. We were able to chase him down after a week and at this point he indicated that they would not alert customers about the Parvo that had been in their store and would continue to allow this shelter that does not insure the health of their animals to come back to this location. The fact that Petco is allowing this shelter to use its location to sell puppys that have not been first treated to insure their health shows no feeling either towards the animals OR THIER CUSTOMERS. The contaggian remains for several months unless properly cleansed by bleach, so each and every customer potentially brought this home to infect their dogs and cats. On top of this the company encourages you to brings your pets into the store with you further exposing your pets to potentially deadly infections. THIS BLATANT DISREGARD FOR THE HEALTH OF THE ANIMALS THEY PROFESS TO CARE ABOUT AND THEIR CUSTOMERS IS BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION. Be EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS at this location or better yet Save your pets by staying away from this PETCO location. read more

I went there with my boyfriend to purchase a pac man frog. We had set up a perfect tank for it ahead of time and done a great amount of research. We arrive and it takes 40 minutes for us to find someone to help us. They are always heavily understaffed every time we go there. The reptile/amphibian part of the store was not well cared for. The animals were kept in the wrong conditions and a lot of them looked lethargic, skinny, and overall bad. The enclosures were dirty. The small mammals area looked fine, but the betta fish looked miserable. Most of the larger fish tanks on the wall seemed okay but not great. After finally getting someone to come get us the frog, the young lady proceeds to scoop it out with her hands which is not okay. Frogs should not be handled by humans unless they are wearing gloves or at least washed their hands with hot water no soap. She puts our frog in a BOX. Second red flag. The frog should have been put into a container with some of it's substrate to hold the humidity in. A box is unacceptable. We check out and rush home to house our frog. It did okay the first week other than a little bit of lethargy but it went downhill from there. At this point I was searching for the receipt because I knew that we had just purchased a sick animal. Two weeks in with not eating, lethargy, and overall thinness despite a perfect environment and appropriate food. Now we are taking our dead frog back tomorrow for a refund. I am not happy with this petco. They need to take better care of their reptiles and amphibians and they are very understaffed to me. Bad experience will not be purchasing any animals from now on. read more

I recently took my dog for grooming. The waiting area was so full I dog hair I could hardly breathe. My dog was covered in another dogs hair from the floor the employees were just sitting around like the place was spotless. When I left I had dog hair all over my clothes. This store is okay. It's cool that they have salt water fish and their set ups for their reptiles are cool and all but they aren't very knowledgeable. I'm assuming they don't have someone to work specifically with the pets it seems empty over there so I don't expect expert advice. The store doesn't seem very busy when I am in there so one would assume the employees would use that time to educate themselves but obviously they don't. They used to have their juvenile bearded dragons on sand, which is a no-no. They also gave oranges to their rats, when they sold them, which is a carcinogen for male rats. I've bought my betta and some live plants from there, just because they had a large selection and I really liked the betta. Their chameleons shouldn't be housed together just because it is a bit stressful for them. It's nothing life threatening, just a concern. Their large bird enclosures are a bit bland and I wouldn't have chosen the white simply because birds do poop. All and all its an okay store. Small, but okay. read more
