Redouane Kadmiri has just joined the salon. He is the best hair stylist and color expert I have ever had and I've lived in Chicago, Manhattan (twice), London and Paris (twice), Arlington and DC. His knowledge of cut and coloring is beyond compare. He is so good that even my husband goes to him, and we moved from Arlington to DC in Friendship Heights, which is a drive but well worth it. I wanted to love this salon to support a woman owned independent salon and because my colleague gets her hair done here and it's gorgeous. Didi is a doll -- but my hair got hacked in choppy layers in 20 minutes or less. I should've inspected it better before leaving but there was a rushed sense about the whole experience, and no mirror provided to look at the back (which looks like a child cut it!) About my hair: My friends and other stylists agreed "there's nothing good to say." I think the technique is dated. I went in for layers with movement and texture as left with a beginner's take on Jennifer Anniston circa 1995. I won't be back and and going elsewhere to have it fixed. read more

today, almost 2 years later, I received a private message from this salon regarding my honest and accurate review. The sad part is that it's now two years later. I still stand behind my review and yes, I selected the correct salon. If you take a minute to look you will see the others who had similar experiences with hack jobs. To respond to the person below from Didi salon who sent me the message today, I say this: You are incorrect, the information I wrote in my review was not at all misleading. What is/was misleading was DiDi hacking my hair, leaving it lopsided and chopped up and denying she did it. It took 18 long months to grow out and I lost so much length. Not cool. So in my opinion, your salon is misleading, not me. Here's the message I received today. My friend recommended this place, and I went in for a Botox keratin treatment. I have thick and curly hair and I wanted a change that lasted for a while! The place was pretty busy but I was done before I knew it. Ask for Sue when you go there! She was so friendly and she got the job done a lot quicker than my other salon. I'm very unhappy. I lied through my teeth after it was over because I knew I would yell if I got started. Cut: I had very long hair that fell just below my breasts. She chopped it off to above them, despite me saying I wanted a trim! It's also literally a chop and not a cut. It basically has no layers, which it had plenty of before. When she first cut it, she just chopped off an inch cold, while it was dry. I should have run away at that. Color: Not what I asked for. I showed her a picture and said I wanted it blonder at the bottom with a little bit more of a fade from the top. She just died the top. I saw her doing it and went ahead and trusted her, but as my hair was being dried it became clear that my hair is now just one color, with a couple of tiny piecey bits of blond at the root which don't even reach the scalp. I will say, it doesn't look horrible. It's just absolutely not what I wanted. I loved my very long hair and really just wanted a trim and color touch up. Very nice people and very clean salon. They gave me a discount because I'm a new customer, and I tipped since it was already cheaper. read more

I really hate giving bad reviews, especially to locally female owned businesses, but this was a horrendous experience. I booked here last minute and should have gone with my gut to cancel when it sounded like I was being booked with a student or backup staff. I have very dark brown hair and wanted just a few subtle highlights around my face. I showed the stylist many pictures before we started, and repeated "no blonde" many times, which she confirmed verbally multiple times. Long story short, she left the foils on waaaay too long so she could take another customer, and I ended up with splotchy, almost white chunky stripes in my hair -- almost Snooki ala 2005, but less intentional looking. I tried my very best not to cry in the salon because I was on my way to pickup my husband at the airport, whom I hadn't seen in over a month. What was meant to be a nice surprise for him ended up being a stressful disaster that totally ruined our reunion day together. I did not trust that stylist to touch my hair again, so it cost me my pride and another $200 to fix elsewhere so that I could be seen in public again without feeling ultra-selfconscious. Save your money, your time, and your nerves and go somewhere else. Not worth the stress. read more

This will be my new go-to hair salon! I have been to three other hair salons in the northern Virginia area since I moved here and will say that Didi's salon was the best! I have blonde hair and Didi gave me perfect highlights! I have had so many bad experiences with getting my hair highlighted but Didi knew exactly what she was doing and got me to the perfect blonde color. Wow these guys are amazing. Particularly Mary. I moved to Clarendon (yuppie capital of the world) about 7 months ago. And for 7 months I have lived like a beast, growing my hair wildly, cutting my bangs w/ blunted scissors, swimming in chlorinated pools, lakes and rivers, and drying it w/ sunlight and wind. Guess what? Mary fixed all of this. She's like a magician w/ scissors. She's an American hero. And all for $50. So screw Urban Halo down the street. That place is way too expensive. I called them and they told me that their JUNIOR stylist charges $65. I don't even want to know what their normal stylists charge. It's like, a basic hair cut. It shouldn't cost much. And we're in a recession people. So go to Didi & Aldi, unless you're Mitt Romney. Your hair will thank you. Oh, and the moral of this story is I am no longer a beast. I have to admit when I walked up to the salon I was a little nervous. Not that it appeared sketchy or that it was rundown (it was very cute and clean), but because it was a little smaller than expected....AND the only client inside was a little old lady sitting under a hair dryer with her hair in curlers. I thought...oh no...what did I get myself into. Then I reminded myself of all of the great yelp reviews and walked in. (OK, to the salon's defense, it was the middle of the afternoon on Monday.) As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Didi. She took my coat, offered me something to drink, made sure I was comfortable and then started my consultation. I told her that I wanted to touch up and brighten my blonde highlights...but that I wanted to keep them natural looking, I thought they should be warm and not cool, I didn't want them too chunky, I wanted them all-over....(I am not as picky as I sound, but it is important to me to tell a new stylist exactly what you want)...she nodded and agreed with me and said that she would be right back with the color. I am a highlight addict...I've been getting them religiously for years from very talented stylists at expensive salons...and I'm not kidding you when I said that Didi was one of the quickest and most proficient stylists to ever apply them to my full head of hair. In no time I was under the dryer and after a quick wash and towel dryer...I already knew that this was probably one of the best jobs I had ever had. And my gut was right. I couldn't believe how pretty the color was. Instead of washing me out (like some blondes will if you aren't a deep tan) this color made my skin tone look healthy and radiant and complimented the gold flecks in my eyes making them pop. I had read that she was good when it came to mixing the right shade...but dang...I couldn't believe what I saw. She is a magician. She also gave me a trim...and respected the fact that I only wanted a teensy tiny bit trimmed off because I am growing it out. She did exactly as I asked and did a really great job of reshaping my current cut without taking anything off (I'm sure she took some...but you can't tell...at all). On top of the amazing color and the great cut. Didi is one of the most pleasant people you will meet. Complimentary, honest, friendly....and she was never pushy or tried to upsell me on anything (no products pushed on me etc). She did mention that they also had manicure, waxing and massage if I ever wanted to schedule those services in a future visit. BUT...the best part was the price... OK...no...I take that back...the best part was the hair....because I've paid a lot more for much less than what I received at Didi's....but the price was MORE than fair and beat out every other salon that I have visited in this area. Remember, ladies, we shouldn't be paying for the charming décor and the triple venti soy lattes when we visit our salons...it isn't necessarily how we feel while we are there...it should be how we feel after. In my continued quest to find a hygienic aesthetician who is in alignment with regulatory health compliance standards, I have yet to find a qualified person in the NoVA/DC area to wax my legs - much less anything else. It is quite frustrating, in fact, as I have plenty of money, but cannot find someone who follows skincare and cosmetic policies & procedures. Instead, these "small businesses" continue to engage in cost-saving measures that put their clients at risk. And I refuse to contract a gnarly disease due to a business prioritizing profit above a person's health. Yesterday, I came to Didi & Adil for a Lower Leg Wax. I called prior to making my appointment, to verify that either the aesthetician used a new pot per client, or a new stick every time they dipped in the pot. The receptionist claimed that they used a new stick every time (just like Erika @ Dermal Essentials in San Francisco: http://www.yelp.com/biz/dermal-essentials-san-francisco#hrid:UjF_F_qLytFVci0QRYCuZw). Prior to the start of my appointment, I verified this with the aesthetician. However, as we proceeded through my appointment, I found her double-dipping on more than one occasion!!! I kindly and thoughtfully reminded her, and she - embarrassed - admitted to getting carried away in our conversation (she had a wonderful personality & we were talking about such fun international travel stories). But, if she could get carried away in conversation - and double-dip with me - this means it is her normal routine. Because we all know that what people do out of habit is their routine. So, if she did it with me yesterday, she does it with others. I did the nicest / fairest thing I could - I paid $40 for the service, and tipped her 20% (because we're still in a Recession, and because it was my "gift" for arriving 30 minutes late to my appointment [shame on me]) - and candidly told her when she asked me how I felt that I was disappointed by the double-dipping, especially since I'd done everything on my end to circumvent its occurrence (I was honest with her, because I wholeheartedly believe in "radical transparency"). I also informed the receptionist of this violation in policies & procedures and health risk to their clients upon my check-out. read more

I'm unhappy because I had an appointment (first time there), and they made me wait more than 30 minutes before I was even evaluated. It took 2.5 hours just to get my hair cut. They also left me under the hot air blower for too long; my face was red/ flushed, and I was miserable from being over-heated. read more

I love this place. The employees are friendly but not too chatty, it's small but large enough to handle a few different appointments at once, and they're very affordable. Sometimes their appointments run a bit behind, so make sure you either tell them of your schedule constraints or plan for a hair appointment on a day when you have an extra 30 minutes to wait for your stylist. Mary does my hair and hasn't given me a cut I don't like yet. I have friends who go to Didi and love her, too. I don't get my hair colored so I can't speak to those services. I also love that they don't try to sell me lots of products when I go in for a basic hair cut, but they'll explain the products to you if you're curious what would work best for your hair. I decided to book an appointment with Didi and try her out. It was a Saturday and the salon was pretty packed. I did have to wait about 15 minutes as Didi was in the middle of two customers before me. Mental note: don't book on a weekend! I did get offered something to drink: water or some tea, which I contemplated, and then was offered wine! Definitely a nice perk! Didi was great though. She talked to me about what I wanted to do with my hair and nicely cut it. At 8 months pregnant, she was still lovely and pleasant, even though she must have been exhausted. I went to this salon because of all the wonderful ratings it received. Mary cut my hair and I will never go back to this salon again. After half an hour she had washed, cut, and dried my hair and tried to send me on my way. However, my hair wasn't laying right and it looked much longer on one side than the other. I asked her to fix it and she chopped more hair off, but it was still longer on one side than the other. She tried to tell me that my hair was thicker on one side of my head and that's why it didn't look right. Mary told me that I could come back the next day if I still wasn't happy with how it looked. I went to Aveda to have my hair fixed a few days later and the stylist was completely perplexed by what she had done to my hair. read more

I took a huge gamble by going to Didi and Adil a week before my wedding. Boy did it pay off! My cut before that was mediocre. My color was mediocre. And I really didn't want to look mediocre on my wedding day. Didi colored and highlighted my hair. I haven't had such gorgeous color in years! She really saw the ideal color for me. Adil immediately understood how I wanted to look on my wedding day. He tamed my curly and unruly hair so that it was silky and smooth through many hugs, dancing and some sweat during the wedding. I still looked great the next day. Their prices are reasonable, and the salon staff is very nice and friendly. It's a cozy place without being snooty. They're not pushing products on you. Adil also did my mom's and my sister's hair for my wedding. We were all beyond happy. During my wedding my hair was the first thing people commented on. Not my dress, not the gorgeous venue, but my hair. I am thrilled I finally found a place that won't rob me and will still do the best with my hair! read more

Five stars for Maria's coloring skills. She is a master at blonde highlights - very natural and they grow out well! She is efficient, yet meticulous...and the prices are reasonable. Another plus = the shampooing and conditioning is SO relaxing here! I travel from NYC to get my highlights done at their small Arlington location. Highly recommend! (PS. I came here a few weeks ago to get my hair cut before a friend's wedding. The student discount was great (only offered certain days, check before you go) and my stylist (who unfortunately never gave me her name) was quick, efficient and effective for what I asked. However, the stylist was the only person in the salon, and she brought her (I'm guessing) three-year-old son to work with her. That meant no acknowledgment or drink offer when I came in the door, her toddler looking over my shoulder at my Kindle while I waited for her to finish with the previous customer, and some interruptions to both the my cut and the cut before mine. I love kids, but I don't want to pay $40 to hang out with one, and the blessed absence of small children is one reason I don't utilize more family-friendly salons. Still deciding whether that aggravation will be a dealbreaker for my next cut, but note to the owners: get a receptionist! read more

I drive on 10th street all the time and I never noticed this place before, it's right next to Jay's Saloon. Saturday afternoon I decided I wanted a hair cut though, and calling at 3pm, they had an opening at 4:15pm. They were nice when I came in. It was two stylists, attending to their two clients, I didn't get offered a beverage like I saw some of the other reviews mention - this was fine by me though. $50 for my cut and style, and then tipped in cash. Mary was my stylist, and I showed her one pinterest photo of my desired look, and I honestly have to say she cut it exactly as I requested. I am a white girl with straight hair, nothing really tricky about my cuts. Honestly I usually just go to hair cuttery for a trim, but I had about 7 inches cut off in this case, which is one of the times I splurge. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I think the pricing is competitive for our area, and Mary is great, However, it's a rare occasion that I am willing to spend a lot on a hair cut, I would probably select a Salon that is a bit more upscale, and even pay a little more for it, just to feel more pampered. read more

Have been to the salon twice and was very disappointed with my last cut. I went in for a trim, asked for about and inch in length off and Didi asked if it was my usual cut, I should have communicated more because rather than trimming and adding back the long blended layers I usually have, I got a boxy cut with no layers. The back of my hair was left choppy and has a few random sections that are longer than the rest. The trim was definitely more than 2" which was disappointing since I've been growing out my hair for the last year for my wedding. I'm going back to my last hair stylist to hope they can fix it, not willing to risk it getting worse or losing more length. Part of the problem may be that since it's a one person salon she seems rushed. read more

My initial impressions of the place was that the decor is great, super clean and had a friendly greeting. Didi is great! Getting my haircut by someone new always makes me nervous. I went to Didi after moving to the area per recommendation of my new roommate and couldnt have been happier! I always get a haircut and full highlights and have never been disappointed walking out of the salon. I love the color she gives me (beautiful blonde!) and the angles and layers that I request. She works efficiently and the prices are definitely less than what they could be for the quality of work! Didi is also flexible with booking and usually pretty easy to make an appointment with.
