I read the reviews (including the Elite comments) and then decided to go there after visiting Salzburg. We got there w/ high expectations due to the good rating. But ... OK, the service was perfect. At arrival all tables outside where full and the waiter could not find a table for us. He asked us to sit inside till he'll find a free table outside. We sat inside and not finished ordering we got transferred to an outside table. The ordered food came quickly and the waiter also take care of our drinks w/o asking. Speaking about the food: we were very disappointed. Quality was low and the taste was so-so. And what about the beer? This was OK - we tasted the various offerings and the "Weisse" and the "Maerzen" was very good. Summary: go there and drink beer! For food lets check Yelp for options ;-) read more

This place is absolutely amazing, not far from the Yoho Hostel we were staying at. I only knew about it from my salzburg guide, but I found it and fell in love. Going in, you encounter an old fashioned pub, very beautiful, very old, where you can buy a huge range of specially brewed Weisse beer, changing with the seasons. There are little rooms filled with beer memorabilia that lead to an enormous modern nightclub that sells the same beer. It is the best night out you can have, at competitive prices. We have nothing anywhere near as good as this in our country, because we are idiots. And don't forget the free cheeky postcards!! Macht spass im mund! read more

We went on a Saturday and were told that they were only offering a limited menu that night. I'm not sure if it just happened to be that night or not, but it was a disappointment because so many of the other things in the other yelp reviews and pictures looked so good and weren't available. The menus that we had (the "small menu") were in German only and the waitress who was completely phoning it in gave a quick run down of what everything was, but went through it so quickly we could barely catch any of it. We played it safe and got the Wiener schnitzel, and it was decent at best. The price was reasonable (10 euro, at many other places I've seen it twice that) but I can't help but get the feeling that if the waitress didn't rush us out, put any effort into service, and if the full menu was available when we went we would have had a nice time there. Instead it was exceedingly mediocre. Its possible we just went on an off night, because otherwise I'd have to say that it's heavily overrated if our experience was the norm. read more

Great and affordable Austrian food in very convivial decor, especially in the garden. My only regret was the waitress who clearly was having a bad day. I requested her to clean up the table with beer bottles and astray left by the previous visitors and she responded with extremely unpleasant attitude that she only has two legs and two arms to do her job. We almost left the place by then but we already were sat down with a kid on his baby chair so decided to stay. I have to say that the food was just amazing and the waitress came back with better attitude and even played with our kid when we gave her rather generous tip. I would recommend the restaurant but for me, the terrific experience was ruined due to that little incidence. Pity. read more

Hands down the best meal in Salzburg. Fabulous roasted pork, though the dumpling was dense and more like a matzah ball. I subbed kraut for the bacon cabbage salad and it was tasty. The hubs had the winning dish of the night -- steamed beef with onion gravy, topped with crispy onions and a side of potato hash. Holy heaven. I could swim in that gravy!! And after 6 different apple strudels across Austria, I can affirm that this is by far my favorite. While the service isn't the greatest, I'll let it slide because the food was so magical. The food was delicious and the beer was great (big selection too). Our waitress was very sweet and spoke English with us and brought us English menus for me (my boyfriend speaks German but I don't). We sat at a large table, that was soon filled with another large group, which was very fun. We still had our private conversation, but also had a sense of community with the other diners. nice restaurant and bar in salzburg's old town. usually very crowded. serves local austrian specialties, heavy stuff but yummy. staff are a bit too busy to be really friendly but the service is ok. the place has several larger and smaller rooms, some of which are for non-smokers. with the door shut air inside gets really stuff and bad, so getting a seat outdoors would be an advantage :) there is an online reservation service available through the website. read more

Just ate here tonight with my husband and two friends after our sound of music bike tour through Salzburg (awesome by the way). We were hungry and tired! This place was recommended to us by our tour guide and it did not disappoint! Within 30 min we had already been seated, had our drinks and food. The food was tasty and the portions were more than enough! We got - Bratwurst - came with potatoes and sauerkraut - delicious! The sauerkraut was popular amongst all of us. - Spinach dumplings - now I know they call this dish "dumplings", but it's really more like gnocchi in a Parmesan like cream sauce with ham. It was yummy but super heavy. - Deep fried chicken -came with potato salad and some kind of cucumber salad. This tasted like wiener schnitzel but made with chicken - also very much to our liking. - Pork roasted in a pan - came with sauerkraut and a big fat dumpling that was like a matzo ball. The pork was super juicy and tasty with a very nice au jus. The sauerkraut was a raw one vs the cooked one with the bratwurst. - Apple Strudel - this is more like a less sweet more tart Apple filling made with think filo dough. Definitely not you average Apple pie with a thick crust, but I prefer it because it wasn't as sweet. The flavor was great. Overall very high quality food at reasonable prices. I should mention we had 6 beers and a bottle of sparkling water. They brew their own beer and the original on draught was popular with all the beer connoisseurs. Thumbs up! read more

Great place in Salzburg in the beautiful cobblestone area near Old Town These guys hustle! Pouring drinks and great Austrian wines as well as taking your choice of dinner. The schnitzel cordon bleu is wonderful! Schnitzel is perfectly breaded and juicy with ham and a soft cheese that oozes with each bite. Lemon goes wonderful with it, which is on your plate, along with fresh parsley chopped. My husband Joe ordered the goulash and I have to say, it was fantastic! It comes with a cheese dumpling and the depth of the goulash with the bite of cheese dumpling is something you'd want on a damp day.....so good! The setting is just what you want, you're in Salzburg. Wooden chairs, mixed, great paintings on the wall, old fashioned candlesticks on each table with a REAL candle. You feel as though you're in a hunting lodge in Austria or Germany. GO! read more

Good value and good quality Austrian food, uncomplicated dishes, menu in the major languages. The beer is good, the atmosphere during the day was family friendly. Many other families were eating there while we were. Beware coaches outside, that may mean waiting. We arrived for a late lunch and got fast service. They brought out bread baskets with fresh pretzel , stick and other salted fares. Try to hold off the bread until you get your main dish. Wow, glad I stumbled on this place thanks to Yelp!! We almost didn't get a seat because the place was so full. Took a little time between getting beer to getting food but it was well worth it. We tried all the beer and I had the 8% alcohol beer they were all great!! My wife loved her pork and she said it was the best she had ever had, and she never says that. The beer was great. That was all though.... Food... my wife says the goulash still haunts her (and not in a good way). It was very very salty. I cringe at the thought of it. I suspect it would not have been good even without the excessive salt. The spatzle was cheesy, yet poorly done. The other two members of our party were uninspired by the food. Stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon based on the reviews. What a great place to spend an afternoon. We tried pretty much all of their beers and they were all outstanding. My favorites were their original and the Jubilator. More of a hop flavor than traditional wheat beers, but still true to the originals. They offer a variety of interestingly flavored Radlers, which was great for my wife, who is not much of a beer drinker. The food was all delicious and came out very quickly after we ordered. Frittaten soup and the liver dumpling soup became a favorite for our boys on this trip, and both were great at Die Weisse. The "saurer teller" with pickled meats and sausages was fantastic with all of the beers, but the best bite of the day was the "gemischte innviertler knödel" (mixed meat dumplings) with sauerkraut. The kraut was cooked in a brown butter and the dumplings were just perfect. Our server had trouble translating exactly what the meats inside were, but we think it involved ground veal, bacon drippings, roasted pork belly and bacon. Trust me, don't ask questions, just order them. You'll probably do what we did and order a second plate... for dessert. read more

Great place to eat. Great local food. Great beer. It is difficult to get reservations. All the tables are reserved by locals and the tables is theirs for the whole evening. But many of the reservations are not until 7:30. If you stop by earlier they will let you use one of the reserved table as long as you leave earlier then the reserved time. My husband and I spent 5 days in Salzburg early October. After doing Frauline Maria's Sound of Music Bicycle tour we were ready for lunch. Another American couple on the tour told us about Die Weisse and the great beer and amazing German potatoe salad they enjoyed there. So off we went and we were not disappointed! The potatoe salad had a kind of paper thin fresh pickled cucumber topping and it was amazing!! We had a nice casual lunch and the beer was great too! We arrived with no booking and a family of 5 and told they were fully booked. After a little rearrangement we were seated and immediately served by very nice English speaking waiter who could not do more to suggest suitable items on the menu. He offered my wife a taste of several wines and suggested I would like the original house beer, he was right. The food was great and we said it was the best meal we had whilst in Austria. The Weiner schnitzel was large lightly cooked and tender my kids had beef soup with shredded pancake which is their Austrian favourite. Great eatery with a more local, less tourist feel (so it is about a 10-minute walk from the tourist area - don't be deterred!). Great local specialties, great local beer, plenty of options for vegetarians, carnivores, and kids. The pretzels were great, and made with a rye taste, rather than the generic pretzels you find almost everywhere - nice to have a different flavor. Extremely overrated. The service was horrifically slow, it only took 15 minutes to get our drinks in an empty restaurant. There is no modern spin on this like other sites suggest because there is no positive spin on anything. The Americans and tourists saying this is authentic have no clue what they're talking about. The three dip appetizer is very good, but the bread is dry, the mixed salad is doused in more dressing than actual lettuce. Avoid the goulash--tough, flavorless and horrendous sauce all around. Goulash is supposed to be slow-cooked and this clearly wasn't. The wiener schnitzel left a lot to be desired but at least that wasn't as horrendous as the goulash. A local friend brought us to this place Die Weisse when we were in Salzburg. I'd say we would likely otherwise never have found it. But man if you're a beer lover in Austria this is what its all about. Local almost-famous Austrian wheat beer brewery and restaurant. As good as it gets. Certainly the beer holds up against the big Bavarian breweries, and then some. We sat in some back room with a bunch of booths and tables and classic bavarian decorations on the walls. I remember my choices at the time were regular hell weissbier, and dark weissbier. Naturally I had both in turn, and I thought they were just first-class. I see on their website that now they have a light and dark weizenbock and seasonals. I remember the food being great too. It seemed like a low-key nice comfortable place to eat and drink, in full traditional decor. There's a great trough-room in the men's room, it made me wonder how busy this brewpub must get. My good memories of this place made me google it and here I am. Better review next time, I would love to visit again. read more

Went to Die Weisse on the advise of the front desk clerk at the hotel. This is a place where locals eat, not a tourist-trap restaurant. I have found that when you eat where the locals eat you get good food at good prices. Had a really good meal, got to talk to some locals (I was dining alone that night).
