Great place to wait for your flight. We walked from the airport. It was probably about a 4-5 min walk. Tacos were great. The fish and shrimp were excellent. The best seafood we've had on the island (aside from fresh ceviche on a boat in the middle of the ocean). Masa for the tortillas was incredible. Service was excellent. We hit this place on arriving on the island, grabbing a taco and guac while we wait for our rental car to be delivered, and then grabbing a taco and guac while we wait to turn our rental car back in. This was our first and last meal in Cozumel, which was just a few minutes' walk from the airport. It's an unassuming spot but don't shy away from it. Everything was so delicious. We inhaled the first meal that I don't have photos (lol!) but tried the pork tacos, shrimp tacos, and Diego's tacos between our two meals on our vacation. While this is local place, mostly tourists going/coming airport come here. I highly recommend eating here if you have a departing flight and did not get a chance to grab something to eat on the way to the airport because there is limited food options at the airport. I ordered the fish tacos, 3 tacos. If you are not super hungry share an order. The grouper fish was so tender, fresh, and flavorful. And breaded. I do not like breaded fish, but these were crispy. Hmmm, after reading everyone else reviews I kind wonder if it was just an off day :( I love fish tacos and I was so disappointed that on the day we visited the fish and shrimp were not crispy at all. It was like mushy batter....IMO, the oil must not have been hot enough or maybe they had a new person in the kitchen‍ The Diego tacos were far better and they also had super solid guacamole (just needed salt). Walking around Cozumel and looking for the best tacos in town and we ran into a couple from Minnesota that said the best tacos they had were near the airport. We said we would love that except we are only in town for the day visiting from the cruise ship. They said hop in, we will give you a lift there. Normally this is where I say no thank you, but their warm Midwestern hospitality had me saying let's go!! Before I even realized what I was doing we climbed into the backseat of a random strangers car in a foreign country. Fortunately they were as friendly as their disposition and brought us to Taco Nirvana. Diego's is an unassuming restaurant near the airport, they have a limited menu but everything they make, they do it very, very well. We had a plate of fish tacos, a plate of shrimp tacos and finally a plate of the vegetarian tacos. We supplemented these 9 tacos (3 per plate) with a side of chips and freshly made guacamole and washed them all down with the most refreshing home made lemonade. Definitely a taco stop I will never forget and the next time some random stranger tells me to hop into the back of the car, I won't hesitate if they say tacos are on the way! I think that's a personal preference if you like it crispier tell them to just make it crispier and and we suggested they make grilled anyways for healthier option hopefully sooner than later into their menu. For airport food this was good and it's pretty much the only option - we got the steak fajitas. The tortillas are corn and it's just sour cream, steak (minimal amount) peppers and onions and guacamole. No cheese - boohoo! After doing a google search for best tacos in Cozumel, Diego's was mentioned several times and it was close by so we decided to give it a try. We weren't all that impressed. You have to understand that I live in the street taco capital of California so I've got access to a lot of taco places and thus one ranks right in the middle. The fish tacos were not only not crispy, but they were too soft, almost mushy. Taste was good but I like a little chew on my fish. The beef tacos were much better but nothing special. One thing I didn't like was that you had to order a platter of 3 of the same kind of tacos, no substitutions. I would have ordered a fish, shrimp and beef taco but could not. Heck I may have ordered 4 tacos if I could get them as singles. The guacamole had not seasoning or any flavor beyond avocado. I'd heard the best way to grab a cab from the Cozumel airport isn't at the airport at all. Technically, cabs aren't allowed to do pick-ups there. Instead, grab your bags and exit the airport, and walk right through the parking lot until you hit the sidewalk. Take the sidewalk to the main street, and cross over. You'll see a red Coca-Cola awning which covers the patio at Diego's Tacos. There, you'll be greeted by a friendly young gentleman and shown to a table. My husband and I ordered the shrimp tacos and fish tacos (pictured). While they cooked, we were treated to some chips and several homemade salsas. Delicious! The tacos arrived a little later and they were excellent. Both of our orders, plus a bottle of water and a Coke came to just around $12, including tip. Crazy good deal. Our new friends flagged down a cab for us and we were on our way to the hotel. I imagine every trip to Cozumel from here on out will start with a visit to Diego's. read more
