There are 2 locations, the other is in Guadalajara. This place is small and away from the tourist zone. So you'll appreciate the non-tourist prices and the authenticity of the food. The staff is very nice, they don't speak much English so be ready to pull out your Spanish. If you don't speak Spanish, then learn. I'll be coming back here next time I'm on the island. read more

I am so glad we ventured away from the touristy area of Cozumel to find this place, just a short walk from the Main Street. My husband felt a bit nervous venturing out, but I am thrilled that we did, because this place felt authentic and local - just what I was hoping for. The location is just few minutes from Centro. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Food is very affordable and have great taste. We got cecina de res and El pastor. For drinks we got bottled Pepsi. The place is neat and the ambiance is very relaxing. We also met the Omar, the owner. He is very nice and even showed us their bar right next door. read more

The al pastor tacos are SO good! I got mine with cheese. The tacos are single layered, so they did break and were a little messy, but I prefer the single layer, as the 2 layer taco can be too bready for me and take away from the flavor of the innards. The guac was good. Nothing special, but tasty. There is no outside seating, so no breeze, but they do have a few fans and were kind enough to point one towards our table since it was hot and humid. The temperature was quite pleasant with the fan on. Overall great value, but be aware they do not accept cards, so be sure to take cash (dollars or pesos accepted). read more

We decided to stop into this place after hearing about their long establishment at Cozumel. We were the only people there on a weekday dinner and the food took quite awhile to get out to us. We are on island time so I was expecting it to happen anyway. Food was decent- the queso was hearty but hard to dip your chips into or get a scoop out for the soft tacos it came with. I ordered the gringas pastor tacos. They werent bursting with flavor but the sauces on the table- especially the green sauce, made them much more favorable. Cheap beer and good prices for food. I'd probably check out a few places around before coming back but I wouldn't say its a bad spot to go. read more

Love this place. Had tacos here due to the taxis recommendation. Definitely didn't regret it. The place offers outdoor seating, there was a lady singing 80s and 90s alternative rock, and she was awesome. Very interactive with the audience. Our server was very nice as well and very accommodating. We were a large party and she was on it. It's the place to try if you're looking for authentic Mexican food. Great local spot that has tasty tacos! The staff is friendly and can speak a little Spanish. They have a variety to choose from except when I was in town they did not have any specialty (cheek, tongue, etc) tacos. Instead I went for the chicken and beef which both had good flavor. For drinks they have beer and soft drinks so I tried the local Sol beer. For seating almost all tables and chairs are under the roof but very open so you catch a breeze and cool off. There are a ton of options to choose from. Great simple taste, great prices and easy to walk to from downtown Cozumel. read more

Finally!!! Authentic Tacos!!! We stayed in playa del Carmen, and went to visit Cozumel for the day. All around playa, we looked for authentic Mexican food but since it's a tourist city, they had a lot of american food. We're in Mexico to experience the different culture and food! You know it's good when you have to walk to a tin building and there is a man with a hair net behind the grill. These tacos were so good and the meat were very juicy and tender. The chicken tacos were okay, pretty plain, but I guess that's my and for ordering chicken. They have a good selection of options, including the full array of cuts from a cow's head (hence my ordering chicken!). The staff is friendly if a bit slow. They make fresh guacamole, made to order. The chips weren't great, a bit flavorless and stale. The prices are great--like taco truck prices in the US, but far more options. The tacos are just meat in a small tortilla, and they give you onions and cilantro on the side, with bottles of salsa. Los Otates was personally one of my most memorable restaurants when I visited Cozumel a few weeks ago! It's very affordable and portions are generous! It's also sooo good that my friends and I went TWICE during our visit to Cozumel. I would've gone a third time if I wanted to lol. What I enjoyed eating the most are the Pastor Gringas tacos! It's marinated pork meat served on a flour tortilla with cheese, grilled onions, cilantro, and a pineapple slice. This is not a normal taco I'm use to eating. Because back at home in the Bay Area, tacos are usually with two flour tortillas and just meat. Here these "gringas" have cheese, a pineapple slice, and only one flour tortilla. It's an interesting combination, but it came out to be so good! It's definitely meaty as I wanted it! Who wants to eat mostly flour tortilla? lol. If they offered more meat options for the gringas, I would definitely order ALL THE MEATS! Overall, I'd definitely recommend tourists to visit Los Otates during their trip to Cozumel! if I ever visit Cozumel again, I would definitely come back!!
