Visited La Choza while in Cozumel. The atmosphere was casual, open-air with a true Caribbean vibe, and the service was friendly and welcoming. Venture a few blocks away from the downtown tourist area and this is the kind of place you'll find -- more authentic, relaxed, and full of character. It's a great way to step outside the typical tourist spots and experience something a bit more local. Tried a variety of food and drinks -- everything was flavorful and satisfying, and the overall environment felt genuine. It's also a great spot for groups, with lively entertainment making its way around to the tables, adding to the fun energy. Overall, a great escape from the tourist core and absolutely worth the short walk. Saluti.
Great food in Cozumel! We arrived on cruise ship and the restaurant is about 10 minute walk. We had the chicken fajitas and they were very good. Complimentary chips and spicy sauce was nice treat. Service was friendly with English speaking waiter and menus. They accept Mexican pesos or USA $ and have posted exchange rate. Atmosphere is very casual and nice flow of air on a warm day. Definitely worth the walk for quality food in a comfortable environment. Will repeat.
The food was great. The environment was lovely and the service was wonderful. They were able to accommodate my daughter's tomato allergy too. They have free wifi. I noticed a pretty even mix of locals and tourists. I typically like to avoid touristy places and this place was great. Walking distance from the port and it was an easy walk with a wheelchair.
I had lunch at La Choza a couple of weeks ago while visiting Cozumel. It's located about 2 blocks from the downtown square. Inside it is an open air restaurant with many fans providing air circulation. I ordered the shrimp fajitas with corn tortillas and was told that neither the corn and flour tortillas are homemade which I thought was unusual being Mexico. First to arrive was a complimentary basket of chips with queso. The chips were thick and the queso spicy. Next, a bowl of chicken noodle soup was delivered with a reddish broth. Finally the sizzling platter of shrimp appeared with a side plate of guac and pico de gallo. The platter had a lot of onions and the shrimp were shelled and with no tail. This meal was good tasting. The soup was chicken flavored broth and noodles but I don't remember any meat. The fajitas were good too with the onions not providing as much flavor as I would have liked. I did feel the meal was a good value price wise and the table service was good. By the way they charge for each glass of ice tea.
Ignore the nay-sayers!!! I do not give 5 stars lightly. This was perfect. Warning: margaritas are strong! In a very good way. Flavor flavor flavor! NOT your American watered down Tex-Mex. The dip w/ the chips is spicy. It isn't cheese, but it's good. Yummy! Aztec soup had flavors/spices I've never had before. Delicious!! Quesadillas were so flavorful!! Surprise ending: my picky husband LOVED the dessert avocado pie! Sweet & delicious. (Chocolate pie is also to die for) Staff/environment are great - attentive but not at all annoying. There are indeed many locals here on a Thursday afternoon. I could sit here all day. Ps: ceiling fans for the win!

Chicken skewers nice flavour and my wife would order again. The guacamole was spot on flavour. No one ingredient over powering the other. The habanero salsa to die for! Spicy and flavour galore. Service was ok. Nothing extravagant. We were left alone after getting the food. No checkups. Bus boy was better than then server and he got a nice tip. The ambiance was very nice. Lots of fans and open from the back for airflow. 4/5 stars.
This place is wonderful! We were treated so kindly from everyone who were so grateful that we found them. To say it's off the beaten path is an understatement. These poor guys are being kneecapped by street closures. We were searching for this place for a long time, even with working gps, we had a hell of a time getting there. Even had to move traffic cones to access a "closed" street. There were no other diners when we arrived on a Thursday evening. Such a shame, because everyone should be there. They've got ample space, kind and attentive servers, strong and tasty drinks, and -best of all- delicious food! We enjoyed complimentary soup with all our meals. Simple, but robust broth, primed our bellies for the feast that quickly followed. Two of us Enjoyed chicken mole, one chose a breast and the other leg and thigh. Both were tenderly cooked, with abuela's mole recipe a delicious, rich, complex sauce smothering the plate. A tomatoey pork dish was similarly tasty, and the bowl of sopa azteca hit the spot. Two desserts were more than enough for 4 to share, especially after such big dinner portions. Avocado pie: what?!? Yes please! Cinnamon laced graham cracker crust under a frozen, super creamy avocado-y filling. Who knew that was a thing! Glad we tried it, and the chocolate pie was equally excellent. Best of all, shortly after we sat down, having endured an unplanned scavenger hunt trying to find the place, the power went out all over the island. Undaunted, they hustled over, first with cell phone flashlights and later taper candles in wine bottles. Such a lovely, sweet Mexican experience. They even brought us free beautiful mugs full of hot Mexican coffee. Please eat here. They really could use the business and I (selfishly) really want them to stay open for us to return next year.

We've visited several times over the years and really enjoyed each experience. We like that many of the restaurant's patrons are local - it makes us feel less touristy and like we are getting the real local cuisine. My husband usually gets a whole fried fish, but none were available on our last visit so he tried the fish fajitas instead. They were fresh and delicious. I tried the chile relleno and it was one of the best I've had anywhere, which is saying a lot because I love a good chile relleno. The chips and pico de gallo were also fresh and hard to stop eating. And the margaritas are always great. The staff is friendly and efficient, and they have several folks that speak English when out limited Spanish isn't enough. We definitely think it's worth a stop and recommend giving it a try. read more

We came after a whole day driving around town...first time in Mexico we got the free salsa and chips we take for granted in America, ha!ha!. the staff were kind enough to bring to trays of chips after our hungry family wiped out the first basket. We ordered their popular drinks...I got the mango margarita on the rocks, hubby got a michelada and kids got coke because apparently its different there. We ordered combo shrimp and lobster fajitas and steak and chicken combo fajitas. their flan for dessert was so good, we ordered another to share. good recommendation from the locals. read more
I've been coming back to La Choza every time I visit Cozumel and the food is always great. The service is fantastic and all of the waiters are so kind. The margaritas are STRONG. I've had the flank steak several times, the beef fajitas, shrimp fajitas, and never skip the Aztec soup. Their flan is also yummy even though I took it to go after my dinner. The food coma hits after a filling dinner here. It's such a great value and a delicious dinner. I miss Cozumel and La Choza! The restaurant feels very cozy inside and has a lot of fans around to keep you cool. It's a really great place for a lunch or dinner. read more

Just one word. Amazing. Got the recommendation from our dive master who is a bit of a foodie. Wife and I had dinner. A bit off the beaten path, but definitely worth it. Staff was exceptional. Lost count on how many people attended to us felt right at home. Wife had the flank steak and I had the Veracruse Fish Filet. We both had the light refreshing soup that I don't know the name but had a slice of lemon. Meal was wonderful. It is always a treat to have a meal that you can tell has been perfected with pride and attention to detail. Next dive trip will be heading back to LA Choza. read more
Our service was top notch, the food was pretty good. Not too different from what I received at home in the US. I ordered the fajitas which were good. My husband ordered something that came with tortillas. The margarita was great and I loved the ambiance! I would definitely return. read more

We have gone to La Choza every time we visit Cozumel and have NEVER been disappointed! The margaritas are excellent and the Mariachi band is great to listen to while enjoying lunch! Highly recommend! Service is always great as well! read more
My husband and I both loved this restaurant! Our main waiter's name was Domingo and he was exceptional. He had a great sense of humor and patiently explained some of the menu options for us. He even brought the red snapper fish so we could see if before we decided to pick that from the menu. The food was really yummy. The grilled fish tasted smoky and fresh. The fish came with a soup (Sopa de acelgas) and that was absolutely delicious. My husband was able to get a second bowl of that soup. I see other reviews where people say that the food did not taste as good or authentic. In my experience, the guac tasted A LOT better than in the States and the fish was very fresh. The place was clean and it had really nice decorations. There was a wall with water running down. There were decorations with lights, which gave the place an elegant look. The restrooms were very clean and well-stocked with soap and toilet paper. I highly recommend this place. I hope to go back so that we can try more options from the menu. read more

Took a daytrip to Cozumel from Playa del Carmen with the ferry. Ten minutes walk from the ferry port. Wanted to find something authentic and not touristy- this was a score!! Fajitas were incredible- tons of cheese and protein. If you like tortilla soup, you must order the Aztec soup. The guacamole is freshly made and chunky! Nice and clean bathrooms as well, which is a huge plus on a day trip! read more

I've eaten at this restaurant a few times before my Yelping days. I always loved the serenades at this restaurant. It's Chris's first time here and he loved it as well. The food is always delicious and prepared fresh as you order. I always walked around their indoor garden in the back open patio. It's very lush and calming. The staff are very polite and helpful. They do accept major credit cards. read more
Upon our arrival to Cozumel, I was starving so we immediately headed over to La Choza for a late lunch. Soon after we sat down, we placed orders for the Chicken in mole poblano and the flank steak. Each entrée also came with a soup. I decided to go with the chicken noodle soup, while my husband chose the corn soup (these were the two options). My husband's corn soup was so good, I wished I ordered this instead of the chicken noodle soup. Luckily my sweet husband did not mind the chicken noodle soup and let me have the corn soup instead. The hot corn soup made my hungry belly very happy. Within minutes, our entrees also arrived. The mole poblano I had was a 20 ingredient mole that was very flavorful. The chicken that came with it was large and nicely prepared. My husband also enjoyed his flank steak. We also heard great things about the avocado pie and would have loved to try some, but they were all out. The servings for both entrees were of healthy portion sizes. We were both very full but not stuffed. After a long day of traveling, La Choza really hit the spot, and the prices are more than reasonable too. read more
I was rather let down because I was looking for something really authentic. The salsa taste it like mustard. I ordered pico de gallo and got charged almost 3 dollars extra. I ordered grilled chicken and salad and it wasn't really anything to write home about. My friend had beefsteak. He said the same; just okay. It mostly tasted like something I cook myself at home. Not some thing I would hope I would go all the way to Cozumel to get. But oh well, it was fresh. Just super simple. read more

La Choza is the best Mexican cuisine from a restaurant I have ever had. My wife and I happened upon this magical place while we were visiting Cozumel, Mexico. The ambiance is super relaxed with its open air layout. The have an open kitchen as well where you can see the cooks make their masterpieces. The smells alone are heavenly. Our waiters were super helpful and constantly checked on us to see if we needed anything. They bring every table their fresh tortilla chips with their in-house creamy zesty salsa. The salsa had a nice spicy kick to it. Before they bring your entrees, they will offer one of two homemade soups. The options are a bean soup or chicken noodle with lime. My wife and I chose the chicken noodle, which was absolutely amazing. It had an orange broth with thin noodles in it, but the best part was the flavor of the broth. It was wonderful spiced and very savory. For my lunch, I ordered the Shrimp a la Diabla. It features shrimp in their spicy chipotle sauce and comes with rice and steamed vegetables. This dish is a favorite of mine to order in the United States, but I've never had it as good as I had it at La Choza. The steamed vegetables looked like typical steamed vegetables, but the flavor was perfect. They put a seasoning on them that made them go well with the rest of the dish. My wife ordered the Flank Steak, which is a marinated beef fillet with guacamole and grilled onions. The steak was so tender and was perfect for cutting up into strips and eating on one of their fresh flour tortillas. To go with our perfect meal, we got to hear live musicians go to tables and take requests for tips. If you don't want to pay them to pay something at your table, just simply say no thank you. The waiters will not automatically bring you your check as they want you to take the time you desire and enjoy yourself. When you are ready to leave, simply let your waiter know and they will bring the bill to you. It is also important to know that they take both pesos and USD. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this place. If you are ever in Cozumel, Mexico, you should try La Choza. read more

If you're reading this, chances are high that you're visiting Cozumel on a cruise. So, now you know where you're going for lunch! The space is comfortable , the service is friendly and accommodating (to non-Spanish speakers), and the food was excelente!¡! Pro Tip: Tacos are not on the menu, but they will make a taco plate with 3 stuffed tacos with one meat of your choice topped with onion and cilantro with refried beans and guacamole on the side. I chose carnitas tacos on flour tortillas and added cheese. This hit the spot perfectly and was exactly what I was looking for. All in, with complimentary chips and salsa, three tacos, two beers, and an up charge for the cheese, my bill was around $16. I was fat and happy when I left and will certainly be back next time I'm in town. Also, they have free Wi-Fi. read more
