Diesel is a very cool store with a great layout, both upstairs and downstairs. The space feels modern and well designed, which makes browsing really enjoyable. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable, talking to us about the product without ever pushing for a sale. You can tell they're passionate about the brand. Didn't plan to, but if you know diesel you know you get quality. I usually stop at any diesel store even if I don't plan to buy anything just to check what is new. Beautiful store, easy to shop at, wish the staff was more helpful. I wonder how they decide who is a potential buyer and who isn't. But service was just OK. I was out and about shopping for shoes all day long. I was going to an event and wanted something for an event that could be casual and could dress down a more formal wear. I had walked for hours at all sorts of different stores, from Park St. to Newbury, to the Pru, back to Newbury (Hey, it was our first real Spring day, why not). I felt like giving up. I just wanted someone to help me out. I had a few conversations with merchants, but not one even asked me what I was going to wear. Fast forward to Diesel, I was blown away by the cool style of shoes that their shop offered. The zip around design was something I had never seen before. I asked to try a few on, and the woman there was very kind. She went into the back of the shop to find my size. I explained to her that these were for an event, and then she asked the magic question "oh well what are you going to be wearing? What color is the jacket?" It's amazing how such a question can make you feel heard. I felt like I was treated like a person in this store, and not just a dollar sign. I wish I asked for her name so I could put in this review. The three incarnations of this company: Diesel, Style Lab and 55 are in actuality quite different. While it's umbrella brand gets a lot of eurotrash flack for the annoying labelwhorish designs of 55, Style Lab stuff is worlds more interesting, structured and refined. The regular Diesel collection, which is featured in this particular store is the middle ground. You won't find anything without some sort of tribute to its creator, but some pieces are rewarded for their subtlety and have ended up in my closet to be cherished for years. And the denim... I really don't give a damn about labels, it's the fit that gets me. They've got the ideal waist to butt bounty ratio that continues to suit me even when going up in size. I've been on an interminable quest for the perfect jeans since outgrowing my beloved Dazes procured at the old Harvard Square location however and visit seasonally in hopes of finding their replacement. This location is clean, mens on the ground floor, womens on the top. The staff has always approached me when I've needed assistance and they've been helping about finding the right styles and sizes per my request. I love this store, but I can only afford to buy when they have their sales. I did go crazy a couple of times though! Their shoes, in my opinion, are the most comfortable shoes I have EVER worn, period! I was there yesterday (6.27.09) and found a jacket that I liked at 30% off. It's still expensive. Look, if you're a dude and you want hot jeans that will last you for a long time, this is the only place you're going. End of story. The actual store is really nice - two floors with both men's and women's selections, so your female companion can look around a bit for herself as well (and you can get some nice gifts for your special lady here too, no doubt - check out the jackets). The customer service is pretty good. The people who work here are "traditionally cool" and seem to have been selected based on attractiveness, so I have no complaints. I wouldn't say that they're experts on helping a stylin' dude find jeans, but then again, what kind of stylin' dude would you be if you needed help? One trap to keep in mind is that Diesel has weird names for their styles and fits, so if you want to save time, do some research on their website before you go...or else rely heavily on your undoubtedly attractive salesperson. Bottom line - if you're a guy who likes nice jeans, roll on over to this place and pick yourself out a nice $200 pair, you won't regret it (too much). read more

My raggedy, retail-phobic little hippie brother wanted to get something decent to wear. Our saleslady, Caitlin, was just amazing. She sized him up, because he is a beanpole and really had no idea what size he was, and engaged him about hiking and camping. She was an invaluable help to me in easing him into the idea of actually spending $$$ on new clothes, and wasn't the least bit snooty even though he came into the store wearing old ripped clothes and looking like a Berklee bum. We got him some gorgeous overpriced grey jeans, and were halfway down the block when I realized I'd walked out with a t-shirt over my shoulder... oops. But I took it back and paid for it, solely because Caitlin was so awesome!!! There's nothing upstairs for me (their girl stuff is all pretty trendy and not the best quality) and we can't really afford $250 jeans, but DAMN! Seeing my bro all cleaned up made me feel as proud as an obstetrician. read more

Helpful but very condescending. I have a lot of patience for people, especially in retail... but the guy helping us (Christian) was not at the top of my list. All he prided himself on was knowing the "fit of the jean" which isn't really helpful when you're trying to find the color/shade that you like first. And... a compliment goes a long way, instead of explaining how stretchy your jeans are. I guess you're lucky the jeans sell themselves because this dude doesn't know how to sell. read more

I got drunker here for free last night, so I'm feeling generous to Diesel. Diesel is kind of a rough brand to deal with. It's like the "stepping stone" for people to finally step up from the Gap and Old Navy, and other horrid brands. On the other hand, the problem is that now that you're spending 145 dollars on a pair of jeans, you've got people who suddenly think that this is the ultimate in brands. See some of the other reviews here. First off, I'll say it right out; no, Diesel does not make the best denim in the world (Dior probably does), or even midrange jeans comparable to APC or Nudie. Looking for selvedge dry denim? The fact that you're even asking for that kind of style means that you're not going to be at Diesel in the first place. No, Diesel specializes in making their signature fades, distressing, putting zippers on the pockets, and other such weird dirt spots that are blown up in the mainstream right now. Zippers on the pants pockets? Unless I'm going to be rocking it out old school rave style in Kikwear, I'll pass. Some of their clothing that is missing any semblance of branding however, can be somewhat cute from what I saw in the women's section. Sure, it's not highest of the high end, but some can work. Before you sink cash into Diesel, try Riccardi, Stel's, or shit, even Karmaloop. read more

I love Diesel, so automatically this place ranks high. One complaint, they forget to give me my receipt, but (YAY!) will mail it to me per my request. (Yes I live close, but can't go in a Diesel store without buying something) They had a huge sale going on, but usually it' s on the lame style of denim that Diesel is phasing out. I had to go full price, in this economy, that is quite a big deal. I did get a great pair of jeans, (my new favorite) for 180$. That is a good deal for Diesel, and I will wear for the next 5 to 6 years. They really do last forever if you take care of them, and are always stylish. Nope. I went in last Friday to see if they sold jeans for women that are not stretchy and could not get this pushy staff member to chill out. He tried to mansplain to me that no where sells jeans for women with a higher cotton percentage than they do, and he insisted that it is *impossible* to find something higher than 98% cotton anywhere... what? that was so weird. I wanted to take a minute to share my very positive shopping experience today at Diesel. I was greeted upon wandering in and went upstairs to the Women's section with a strict goal of finding a pair of jeans that I LOVE. *After losing a bit of weight and having no amazing jeans that fit properly, I figured a Diesel pair was in order to celebrate a new size. 27. I can't recall her name but the salesgirl today, she was wonderful and very, very helpful. After not seeing anyone on the top floor, I walked to the dressing room and introduced myself and told her what I was looking for and definitely needed help. After she wrapped up with the client in the dressing room 2-3 mins later, she came and walked me through my wash options for skinny jeans. She spent time with me suggesting other options and styles. After about an hour and a half of trying on different lengths, washes and rises, I checked out with two amazing pairs that will hopefully take me through casual, night-out, and professional looks, seamlessly. Yes, Diesel jeans are pricey but they are amazing quality and an impeccable fit. I cannot wait to pick them up from being hemmed.... $25 a pair though. Hmmmph :/ read more

Eh! This is eurotrash heaven. While that idea makes me cringe a little, I've bought a few really great things from here.

First I want to say that I am a loyal Diesel fan. I have always thought that Diesel created great clothes - especially jeans - and they have some cuts that fits me really well. I think during my life I probably have had 15-20 pairs of Diesel jeans plus t-shirts and other clothing. I have always been wearing my clothes to it was really worn up, normally several years, and I generally think their quality is good. However, I bought a new pair of jeans in the Boylston st. Store around 5-6 months ago. I liked the jeans a lot but after only around 3-4 months there started to get holes in the pockets. It was both pockets and there were several holes in each pocket, even though the jeans were new and not even close to getting worn down the pockets started falling apart. Obviously this must have been a bad batch of fabric they created the pockets from as I have never ever seen this happen with any of my other Diesel jeans. The jeans gets worn down before the pockets gets any holes in them. I decided to go back to the store and get them replaced as it must have been something they have seen before, at the end of the day bad production batches can happen for even the best brands. When I got down in the store the associate was really arrogant, and started out the conversation saying that "I could not get those replaces, but he could point me to a good tailor" even before I showed him how it looked and told him my story. He then was trying to convince me that this was totally my own fault and that "he had never seen this in the 4 years he had been working there" and used it as an excuse why it was me wearing them wrong, instead the other way around. There were nothing to do and I walked out the store with not as much as a "I am sorry we cant help you sir" or anything other than misbelief from the arrogant staff. Obviously being a loyal Diesel fan for 10+ years its really disappointing with this experience from a brand that you normally only have good experiences with. Whether I will keep buying Diesel clothes or not I havent completely decided yet, but one thing is for sure - I will never set my feet in that store again. Therefore if you want really bad Diesel customer services, a staff thats full of them self and cant even bother to listen to you and help you out, you should definitely head down to this store. I really like Diesel because their jeans fit me perfectly compared to other brands. You know what I love about this place? The sales!! Its hard to imagine Diesel having big sales on Newbury but sometimes it does. I got some pretty cool accessories recently on 50-75% off. Not that I'm a complete cheap ass, but it helps that I'm not always spending $150-$200 on my jeans. They do have the latest stuff and the staff is always around to help. Thankfully, they spare you when you're trying out stuff instead of asking you every two minutes if you're doing fine. read more

Some of the nicest clothing I've looked/felt in a while. The quality is extremely high, the style is cool/casual, and prices will make you feel so disappointed that you won't be able to get it. If I had the money, I'd be burning it here for sure. The employees were dressed on point and super friendly and not overbearing like at most high end stores. I'm beyond upset that their isn't a Diesel store closer to Providence but I'll make the train ride up to Boston just to gawk at/try on/marvel at some Diesel jeans. Wonderful customer service from the staff and their sales aren't half bad. Their fitting rooms have ample space although the door locks need some work. And instead of each fitting room having a mirror, there is a large mirror on the wall opposite the fitting rooms which works just as nicely. If you are petite (typically wear jeans with a 30" inseam, that is), you'll be supported here. Save up your cash if you spend here! read more

If you like sexy sales staff, club music blasting away while you find a styin' outfit, and paying over a hundred bucks (minimum) for a pair of jeans, Diesel is the place to be. For the first time in years, I purchased a pair of jeans that was not Levi's. I'd just picked up another pair of Levi's about an hour before, but wanted to see what the whole Diesel craze was about. I have to admit, they're pretty slick, but I'm not quite sure they're worth twice what I paid for a similar pair of Levi's. Time will tell. read more

Whenever I come to Boston for a wknd lunch I always walk all the way down to this store. It is well organized shop, great music and friendly staff members. Main floor is for Men and accessories and the upper floor is for ladies and shoes. The store always carry something different in every visit, so it shows the good management. Their jeans are absolutely the best quality and their leather jackets are one of the best. I personally like their black label, since it is more mature and understated than other diesel lines. read more

A few weeks ago, I was walking around newbury street with my friend, and we went into diesel. The store itself is medium to smallish sized, and just your average diesel store with average diesel clothes (which I do often like). I saw a pair of sneakers that may be cute, and thought why not try them on. So, I asked the store associate to bring a pair. He said they didn't have my size but I coud try the next size up, so I said ok and sat down to wait. I waited, and waited, and waited. My friend and I waited through 3 songs and no sign of those sneakers. I waited and waited, and got bored, and I wasn't super needing the sneakers, so we just got up and left. As I left, I saw about 3 associates who had decided that standing at the door and saying 'hi' to people was a good use of their time, so they really weren't so busy that they couldn't help me. Bad customer service in this store, even more than usual in a chain known for its snooty salespeople. Oh well. Come here to possibly get some cute clothes, but hope that you don't have to have someone help you. read more

Diesel jeans are really quite amazing, and I don't think I know anyone who is wearing them just for the label, myself included. It takes a very particular fit to make me look slimmer, taller, and just curvy enough not to be a stick figure, and Diesel has it. While the jeans are not cheap, I look at it as an investment because I will invariably wear them 5 days a week for the next 4 years. The staff at this particular store have been very helpful every time I have been, no problems there. My only wish is that the washes and styles were a little *less* diverse. I had to wait a couple of seasons to buy my current pair because everything kept being too overdone for me. I do wish they had a couple more basic washes that they ran every season. read more
