They identified a problem that has existed since I bought my e-bike almost 2 years ago. The other shop (which I won't name) repeatedly told me there was nothing wrong with my bike! They replaced the tube and recommended a protective strip around the inside of the tire to prevent thorn punctures. I rode it for a few months with the rear wheel having an annoying little bump with every rotation. I thought maybe that protective strip was bunched up a bit and would eventially straigten out. Instead it got worse and eventually the tube was pushed out from under the tire and displaced the tire so it started to rub once per revolution against the frame of the bike. I eventually had to half push, half carry the bike up to Trek from Marine Drive and Royal Oak where it got to the point where the bike was un-rideable. Trek very quickly replaced the tube and straightened out the tire so I could ride it home while they ordered in a thornproof tube for me. A few blocks from the shop, the tube exploded with a sound like a shot and the tire completely came off the wheel and was flopping around sometimes at right angles to the wheel. Meanwhile the remains of the tube was wrapping itself around the hub. It was mostly downhill to the nearest sky train station and the shop was closed by then, so I coasted to the Edmonds sky train station mostly on the rim. The next day, I stuffed the wreckage into the trunk of my car and drove back to the Trek shop and said please just fix it. A few days later, I got a text that it was ready to pick up. When I showed up, they brought up the bike and said they had to replace the rear wheel and put on a better tire which was thorn proof. The woman I was dealing with said there would be no charge and refused my offer to pay for the wheel since I did ride on it for a couple of km downhill. I'm very impressed with their integrity. The new tire and wheel made the 5km or so ride from the shop to home with no problems and no more of that periodic bumping which was so annoying on the old wheel and tire combo. I'm pretty sure they've learned from this experience and won't be offering that thorn-proof overlay on the tube anymore and will instead recommend replacing the tire with a tougher one.

Two weeks after I bought my bike the pedal started sticking so I brought it back, they changed it for me without charging me. We have barely a clue on what to go with and certainly required advice for the right bike. While their supply was limited, he was able to recommend a bike that fit our daughter perfectly. He allowed our daughter to give the bike a test in the parking lot and didn't rush any decision. In fact, another employee did a quick tweak to the bike and let my daughter go for another spin to see if it made the use of the gears any easier. We also learned that they have a buy back / trade in program for children's bikes since the kiddos tend to outgrow their bikes quite quickly. I recommend anyone in the area to include this place when seeking out a bike. I bought my previous bike from them about 10yrs ago and remember the same high level of service and support.

A disheartening experience for both MacTalla and I--a new customer. I will only state the facts…read moreand remain objective--(what I see, hear, touch, smell, or taste). I dropped off my bike to have a rear flat tire fixed, but I also asked they investigate a clicking sound. After a few days, I received a call and learned that there were several issues with my bike. I was quoted approx. $250 for the parts. I was conflicted but safety was paramount to me and for Mactalla, too. So, I gave my authorization knowing I was going to incur an expense well beyond the cost to repair a flat tire. Approx. a week had passed, and I called to check in. I spoke with George. He said to come the following day to pick up my bike. When I arrived, the bike was not ready because they found another issue that required an additional part. I was told that this specific part was needed for all the other installed parts to function at 100% capacity. I could have declined and chanced on whatever capacity my bike was capable of at that point. But my safety was #1, right? So, I authorized them to proceed. (Now, some of you are probably thinking what a fool I was at this point. Sorry to disappoint!) Furthermore, they had to source for the part because of C-19 and high demands on bike parts. I get that this would delay the work even further. Miraculously, a part was found a few days later. At last my bike was ready! Total was $402.00. (Yes, I know, I could have bought a brand new bike! Again, sorry to disappoint!) I tested the bike on the side street and noticed that the rear tire was softer than I would have expected, but I trusted that they fixed it. Also, I didn't want to return because of fear of incurring more expenses. However, two days later, I took my bike out of our apt. bike storage and rode less than two blocks until my rear tire went completely FLAT--I wanted to cry. I called and they said that they would fix it on the spot! After their inspection, they found a piece of glass. I may have run over it, unfortunately, or they may have missed it during repair, they said. Regardless, it will cost $20 plus labour and taxes. (Okay, readers, I hope what happens next will make you slightly proud of me.) To summarize, my partner basically gave them the "What for!" (Sorry to disappoint that it was my partner and not me.) Their escalating conversation took place outside the entrance. Basically, we didn't want to pay again for the additional cost to repair what was the initial problem to begin with--a REAR FLAT TIRE. We had just spent $402.00! After 20-25 mins, the owner signaled his staff to return my bike and the tire was fully inflated. Two days later, I went to check on my bike in the storage, and the rear tire was FLAT. (As you can probably guess after this, I am not a confrontational person. Some may think I got "ripped off"; others may think that it's partly my fault because I didn't stand up for myself.) Do I ask for a refund for the amount that I paid for my tire because it is still flat? No--here's the reason... I am a long-time customer of numerous businesses in the lower mainland. They provide me with guaranteed service and compassion in exchange for my loyalty and referrals. I paid Mactalla money in return for a bike I still can't ride. They may have taken $402 from me, but that's all they are going to get from me in my lifetime. Going forward, I will request for a total quote before I authorize any mechanic to repair my bike. The quote must include the following: cost of parts, labour, and taxes. Bring that quote to another bike shop and compare. For ME, the deciding factor is not who is the cheapest, but who have earned my trust and, in return, I'd be their long-term paying and loyal customer. Thank you for reading.

I told them I had to spend two thousand dollars, I wanted the red model and I had to receive it by the rebates guidelines timeline. They sent me a black bike, that I received late for the rebates deadline, which sent me for a spin as I didn't know if they would accept this lateness. My rebate was expired! i emailed repeatedly : NO ANSWER. I called : you cannot speak to anyone. Left a message : no one answered. Finally I drove to the store which is far for me. The sales person was flushed, apologetic, they said they would send someone within the week to exchange the black bike with a red one. The driver comes, rushes through, he pulls out a red bike, not in a box, hands me the invoice to sign, while I suddenly see that the bike is scratched, I made a note on the invoice. He leaves and as I inspect the bike I see that it has rust on in, dirt on the gears, on the frame, scratches everywhere... They send me a year old bike that sat in the rain. this instantly voids the rebate: it's for a new bike . Awful, just awful. so incredibly disappointing. Don't be tempted. The marketing is brilliant and that is where the brilliance stops. Zero customer service.
