She asked how much I wanted cut instead of going scissor happy. She arrived after I did but we still started on time. I plan on going back for another trim. I had my child's appointment scheduled for 3:00 pm today. His stylist called and let me know 30 minutes before his appointment, that the manger wanted us to come after the shop closed because my child cried the first time and a client complained. I was shocked. I was told by the salon that they like to schedule children on the weekends around 3pm or later because children can cry or be upset while they're getting their hair done and they don't want them crying around other clients. I thought it was a little strange because I've been in hair salons, braiding places and ppls homes, etc. literally all around the world and that's not a thing. Some children are tender headed and may cry. It happens. A professional would be used to working with all types of clients. Not here. He had his hair braided here for the first time in November, and I let them know then that he would probably be tender headed. I also paid over 100 dollars tip included for his stylist to do 4 braids. I'd already washed and blown out his hair prior to our visit. She just needed to put in four braids. He had a lot of hair and I wanted to pay almost triple what that was worth for her time. So today, the owner had the stylist call me without a regard for my child's time, or mine and tell me to come later. There was no professionalism, because if there had been, A. The manager could have reached out to me. B. She could have reached out to me days before the appointment. C. She could have asked me what a good time was for me, and I would have taken off to have him there when there weren't a lot of other clients since they were so disturbed by someone with real hair getting it done.. In A Salon. Instead they wanted me to spend time at the end of the day on a Saturday so that others weren't uncomfortable. Inconvenient but I was willing to accommodate them, and I'm the customer. It wasn't enough. She wanted me to bring my 3 year old at 5pm or 6pm like he was a pariah and the shop was closed and then have us sit there for three hours. He is well mannered and well behaved, and because he cried and was upset we needed the late night treatment? You don't have to worry about me doing the work, and then you overcharging me again because we won't be back. One time and done. read more

The owner Lamonica gave me a curly perm. She was 20 minutes late, did not apologized and the service was awful. She cut 2 inches of my hair and upcharged me. Lamonica brought her daughter and cousin and attempted to multi-task which was amajor fail and extend the process. She offered me water and gave me warm water in a Styrofoam cup. Lamonica drench the entire back of my shirt and never acknowledged nor apologized and took money and let me leave her salon in that condition. I rate this experience as a F and would not recommend her as a hair artist. read more

Hello everyone, My name is Alyssa Waterloo. I booked with Loretta Drummond for a balayage. I voiced my concerns prior to the appointment about having curly hair and She insisted that she's been doing hair for 13 years and to not worry. She took FIFITY minutes to apply the bleach and then she wanted to me to sit and let it process. Automatically I knew something was wrong because the bleach was on for way too long, so I made her wash it. I had beautiful big curly hair that is now ruined. She did not know what she was doing and she knew she was in the wrong because she apologized numerous times saying "I didn't think your hair would lift so quickly". My hair was dyed uneven and up to the root. A balayage isn't supposed to be dyed that far. I am completely devastated because my birthday is tomorrow and I had to cut all of my hair off. I had an appointment with Lady J at the salon. My experience was nothing short of amazing. For a Saturday, I was not in there way too long. I was out in about an hour and a half to about 2 hours. The salon was not too noisy and had soft music in the background playing. All of the staff were very professional and seemed to be nice Lady J was very knowledgeable and helpful. It was my first time at the salon so I was advised to fill out an intake form. Once I got in Lady J's chair, she asked questions about my hair to have better understanding of how to care for it (which I truly appreciate it.) She gave me a scalp massage in the shampoo bowl and it felt like I was near heaven. I love the way she was very gentle yet not too much on my scalp. I got a blowout and bob cut. I love it. read more

Worst salon experience ever. I wish 0 starts was an option. It's taken me a few weeks to write this because I felt bad (lol crazy right?!). You have to make an appointment online, and I went in for a trim and I wrote in the comments section that I wanted my hair straightened as well. I don't know about you, but every hair salon I've been to washes your hair first (unless you're dying your hair or getting a curly cut.) but they wash your hair... At some point. I go in for my 9:30 appointment, the stylist tells me to wash my hands and then sit in her chair. Once I'm in the chair, she takes my hair tie out and hands it to me and takes a look at my hair and starts cutting the ends. She tells me I don't need much TRIMMED off so that's good or so I thought lol. She mentions seeing layers and If I wanted to keep them and I said yes (I wrote this in the comments as well when I was making the appointment... clearly they don't read this so don't waste your time typing it). She didn't even comb through my hair y'all.. I have 3B hair. And A LOT of it. My hair was dirty. I figured I would get it washed in the salon. Thankfully I combed through it before leaving home because I wanted to help her because I HAD a lot of hair (HA!). When she finishes trimming, she doesn't double check the cut. At all. I'm used to stylists taking sections from each side after cutting to make sure it's even. She didn't do this. I felt as if she was hurrying to sweep the hair off the floor so that I wouldn't see. She hands me the mirror so that I can take a look. My hair is a POOF because I had combed it at home, so I couldn't fully see what she had done. But it looked fine. And then the service was over ._. I wasn't even there for 15 minutes. Fastest cut ever. I figured they only had time for a trim, so I brushed it off, but was still put off about her not washing my hair??? I go home telling myself I'd wash it and straighten it myself. To my horror, I see that she's cut off about 2 inches or more. My hair was to my butt... it was now mid back. And she had left a long piece that she forgot to cut. And what was supposed to be a trim looked like she had taken garden shears and butchered my hair. It wasn't even at all. I had to go to another salon to get it fixed. The stylist there told me she was looking for the layers the First Lady gave me because she couldn't find any. And after she straightened my hair to look at the damage and to see what she had to fix, she told me it was so uneven that she had to cut even more off just to even it out. She had to curl my hair a little because it still wasn't 100% even and she didn't want to keep cutting so she said she'd continue fixing the unevenness in a few months. SMFH. I thought stylist were supposed to know what they're doing. Being scissor happy is one thing, completely cutting just to cut and leaving my hair an uneven mess is another thing. That stylist didn't learn sh*t from school and it shows. I'm so pissed. Don't go here. Don't waste your time or money. They don't know wtf they're doing. Quality is clearly not a priority to them. I have been here twice, once for a silk press and once for a crown braid. I am 100% natural and my stylist (Cyndi) has always made me feel like she cares about my hair, is gentle, kind, easy to talk to you and professional. I have not personally been disappointed with this salon although I did bring my mother for a silk press and she was not happy in the least. Her stylist (I did not catch her name) cut her a bang that she did not request, didn't really trim but rather cut her hair and did not do a silk press but just a flat iron (which they later explained is what they do for permed hair). I will be using this salon and specifically Cyndi for all of my hair care needs. They accept walk ins which is what I was the first time (tots salon time about 3-3.5 hours) but the second was an appointment which lasted about 2.5. read more

I came last Tuesday to get an extended ponytail for $85 which it only lasted two days it came right out I called and they said I can come back to get a free style which I don't trust anybody in there to do my hair I asked for a refund and they told me they don't do refunds I advise anybody who comes here to make sure you like your style read more

After reading the 40+ positive reviews on Google, I ventured to this salon in Jan. 2016 where I was serviced by Ashley (a new-comer as well). I have been a regular customer ever since for regular hair maintenance - twists, protein treatments, trims, straightening, highlights - and LOVE the flexibility that the salon offers in booking appointments online and their wi-fi access. I've truly enjoyed the service that I've received from Ashley and always receive compliments on my hair from strangers in public. I sometimes have an idea of what I want, and then Ashley is able to expand it to something more. Most importantly, my hair is without damage and continues to flourish under Ashley's care, despite my lazy maintenance regime in between. read more

I'm so done with this salon. I guess my great run is done. I loved coming in. The atmosphere was always wonderful but my last two experiences have completely turned me off and I won't be returning. I got burnt on the side of my face and even the next time I tried a new stylist I booked the appointment at the beginning of the week only to get a text at 7:30 am the day of when my appointments at 9 from the stylist saying that she wasn't in town after all my confirmation emails and text. Meh. I was referred by a close friend who knew the stylist really well. At the time, I had natural hair (it wasn't chemically treated) and I asked for a particular style. By the time she was done, the other stylists were looking and trying to say something nice to me. When I finally took a look at my hair, I just SMH and ask the stylist to REDO MY HAIR, rinse it out and let's start over. What's the point of having an appointment and showing up on time on your part but your stylist (and other staff members) not be professional/ punctual on their parts? I had an appointment set at 9am on Friday, knowing the salon opened at 9am, I made sure to show up 10 minutes ahead of time. Arriving to the facility, I saw the 'open' sign lit, so I parked and walked to the salon itself, only to find the salon closed, doors locked & lights off. I called their phone anyways just in case someone was in there but setting up in the back, but it went straight to voicemail. So, I walked back to the parking lot and came across a few other customers who noted that the staff members tend to show up right on the dot (at 9am.) It baffled me a little that an owner or worker of a business would show up exactly when the business is said to open, as most businesses usually have someone there earlier to open up and make sure everything is set up for the clients. I waited a good 15 minutes after the salon was supposed to be open, and 15 minutes into my appointment, might I add, and no one showed up so I left. Being professional and punctual is big for me, especially if I make the effort to leave on time, so I don't waste anyone else's time! Here I am in charlotte college student looking for a natural hair salon. I finally settle on this place because my hair needed attention. I come in on Saturday, nice atmosphere and lighting . I ask about the natural hair services and decided to get an updo. I make the appointment for 2pm the next day. My advice don't come any earlier because I came at 1:30, saw the open sign lit up but the doors were locked until exactly 2pm. I come in meet the stylist. She "consulted" my hair. Not really telling me any useful information. I told her the style I wanted and she seemed to try and coax me into a blow out . Which I was trying to steer away from due to heat damage, she then detangled my hair while it was Dry . Washed it and blow dried it . . I got my hair done and I am not really a hair person so it was good the stylist knew about how to take care of my hair. Everyone was really nice and my stylist Shalonda was very good. If I had to promote anyone it's her. She knew that my hair had damage based on looking at it. I got damage a couple months back from braids and lost a big chunk of my hair in the middle of my head. I told her I'm simple and she designed a hair style even I could take care of. I had a great experience and would definitely go back. read more

I made an appointment with Lady J, early that morning and was able to see her that afternoon. This was my first visit and will not be my last. The salon was modern with beautiful decor. The music was nice and relaxing and a wonderful atmosphere. I did not have to wait. I was given a clipboard and asked to fill it. Asking questions regarding the products I used on my hair, allergies, etc. I am over 60 years old and have never had this done and I was quite impressed. Lady J and I had a consultation and I felt she really listened to my needs and expectations. The chairs at the hair washing station and the hair dyers were ergonomically correct and I had never been this comfortable. I was given a protein conditioner, wash, cut and rod set. My hair has never held curls my entire life. It has been 3 days and still tight curls. Great products, my scalp is not itchy or flakey. I did purchase their products to keep my hair moisturized and manageable. Lady J and the staff were kind, dressed professional and all carried themselves in a professional manner. I have been going to DBD for over an year now and truly love getting my hair done here. I have a 5yr old and 17yr that come to get their hair done. The Stylist are always giving suggestions about different things we can do to maintain our healthy hair. LaMonica is the owner and is a very business minded person. The salon is nice and relaxing and LaMonica makes sure it stays that way, so her customers are Happy. My personal stylist is Lady J, she knows my needs and how to handle my hair. If I could give -1 star I would. My first and last time at this salon. I made an appointment to have a touch up done to my roots. Kenya answered the phone when I called and she was very professional answering my questions. That was the only thing professional about my experience with this salon. When I arrived there was no one at the reception to greet meet and I had to wait a little bit until someone turned around to come to the front desk. Keisha came and told me the appointment was with her. She gave me two forms to complete, one of which basically asked you to sign away your life and any liability for any damage the hairdressers may do to your hair. Major red flag! No salon that's worth their reputation would have you sign a disclaimer form absolving their hairdressers from any liability. Clearly they have had issues in the past to have this as a policy. I asked to see the color product she would be using. For some reason after I asked to see the product she would be using she seemed like she did not like me asking this (as she went to get the product showed it to me and then turned around and walked away without a word, which was rude). I had questions regarding the price I was quoted and asked the owner (who seemed nice), but her explanations for a la carte pricing seemed not only outrageous but down right ridiculous, $95 for only a touch up to my roots! ($60 color service, $25 shampoo/conditioner, $10 for color product). She indicated because I was getting only the color (roots touch up mind you) with no styling this would be the cost. Not even in NYC would an upscale salon charge this much. I was on time for my appointment, however I waited for 30 minutes got up and walked out (and she still was blow drying another client's hair). The funny thing is they have a late policy for their customers with a grace period of 15 minutes after which they will start charging by the minute for your tardiness and add that amount to your bill or next service. Certain types of salons have no respect for your time and a simple service that should take an hour or so may end up taking half your day and costing you an arm and a leg. I felt the "you are going to sit here all afternoon vibe" and will never allow for that foolishness. I was very lucky to leave when I did as Keisha's lack of professionalism was a telltale sign of what could've turned out to be an awful experience. Thank you Father God! read more

I give this salon a -5. Let me first start by saying the owner Lamonica Cuthberson is the most ill mannered individual to deal with. I went to have my hair done on a Saturday morning at 10:30 am to have my hair colored rose gold ( my current color was plum brown) not only was I in this god forsaken salon for 8 hrs I walked out with my hair the same color just slightly and I mean SLIGHLY lighter. When I called the person who did my hair she mentioned she spoke to the owner and told her I did not look satisfied when I left . I asked for a refund for the color I was told to call the next day in the am to speak to the owner. When I called I spoke to some more rude ignorant staff members and was told she was not there. Long story short I was denied my simple refund for the color. They charged me $190 dollars for nothing. I would not recommend this salon to a pet rabbit. They are overpriced, slow and do not really know what they are doing in there. Customer service is -1000000. WORSE SALON EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!! read more

LaMonica can straighten hair well. However, she is not the best at blowing and neither are her employees. After having my hair blow dried my ends were broken off. My ends were not previously split bc I'd recently had them trimmed. I tried to talk to the owner about the issue but she defended the stylist poor techniques. I've known others to go this salon and not be pleased by the outcome. I will not return. read more
