For the past few years I have had some serious health problems. For my digestive needs my doctor is Dr. Gao. She can be abrasive at times but I have a lot of respect for her and value her knowledge. Digestive Disease Clinic is excellent in making sure that I have the test that I need in a timely manner. Due to my condition, I have to have one of the digestive testing and blood work about every 3 months. It was Dr. Gao that gave me the referral to Mayo Clinic Liver Transplant. For this I am thankful. My cons for Digestive Disease Clinic is the amount of time that it takes for an appointment. I was in ICU at the beginning of December and it took 5 months for me to have my post-hospital visit. My blood work and everything had completely changed by that time. What she was telling me was not pertinent to where I was at that time. However, I have had a very bad experiences with Dr, Gao's APRN Angela Smith. I found Angela very arrogant and rude. I make this statement for the following reasons: 1.) She never was prepared for my appointment. She would come in the room with the test or hospital notes, read them to herself until she came to something that she felt I needed to know, and then read them aloud to me. 2.) She would not really listen to me. I would tell her how I felt and she would just dismiss it; usually telling me why I was wrong. How does she know the pain I feel? Even if you think the test/blood work does not clearly show something that will cause the pain: I FEEL the pain. 3.) I know this will maybe be insignificant to some, but it was BIG to me. I have liver cirrhosis that Moffitt Cancer Center stated was due to a bacteria. Angela constantly told me that this type of cirrhosis was due to excessive drinking. The problem is that I have never drank in my life due to my religious beliefs. Also, I saw from an extended family member what an alcoholic looks like vs. the good life that my parents lived; and I did not want that. Even the last visit I had with her, she had to put in my notes: " to not consume any alcohol." I asked Mayo Clinic could they tell by the type of cirrhosis I had, if it was caused by drinking. They stated: no and that there were several other things that could cause liver cirrhosis. 4.). Angela crawled all over me asking why in the world was I on a certain medicine. Does she think that I can write my own prescriptions? I explained that Dr. Gao put me on the medication for intense itching. Angela was satisfied with taking me off the medication with no empathy for the constant itching; could not tell me why I was itching so bad; and did not give me any other alternative. Do you know what it is like to itch as if you are having an allergic reaction to something day and night? I refuse to see Angela Smith again as I feel my visits with her are a waste of my time. I have another appointment for a consultation and then my endoscopy coming up soon with Dr. Gao. I plan to continue to use her as my gastroenterologist doctor with confidence. We will be discussing at my next appointment if I need to also have a hepatologist included in my health plan. read more

No, my colonoscopy did not change my symptoms at all, and frankly, I never thought it was the REAL problem to begin with. Every time I eat, regardless of what I eat, I had continued diarrhea episodes beginning 5-10 minutes afterwards. That hardly seems like that would be episodes that would formulate that soon involving the colon. Significant stomach spasms continue and I'm often awaken by them at night, too. To me, the Digestive Disease Clinic seemed to be a colonoscopy mill. Did I ever get the test results made prior to the procedure from them? no. Did I have 2 pre-exams that they referenced in a phone call relative to an aggressive letter I received scheduling an appointment per text message I received only weekend before scheduled unknown appointment (made while i was in TMH ER post colonoscopy.) No. Too, prior to the colonoscopy, I was ridiculed by Dr. Somerset for eating a piece of toast 5 hours before the procedure. Well, I had lost 10 lbs in a week and several neighbors became very aware of that by sight. That much, that fast, the diarrhea, then the colonoscopy prep "destroyed" me. Led me to TMH ER. Ah, but I'm to pay Digestive Disease Clinic a $40 charge for a missed appointment, too, that I never made. These people, from my perspective, are true scammers. I had a colonoscopy this morning. Everything went well, they were on time, they were friendly and they answered all my questions in great detail. I arrived just before eight and I was out of there around nine. I have to admit, I was a bit concerned when I saw a lot of these other reviews after I had already scheduled mine. They literally ignore you and your symptoms. I have a gastro condition where six different drugs are recommended that work in six different ways to treat it - according to the Mayo Clinic website. Instead they give me PPIs which are no better than placebo. I have gastritis every day. When I call the doctor and ask a question (I'm not a picky patient - I have maybe one question a month), we never get responses. My refills are not filled on time. They took weeks last time to respond to a refill request. I ended up going out of pocket and buying all my over the counter pills. When I run out the stomach pain is awful. I'm half convinced there is something else going on like cancer or liver issues. I expect to be ignored until I'm dead. Looking for a new doctor. The center is what I think of capitalism on steroids - you rarely see a doctor, and are rotated in and out quickly to maximize cash flow and minimize actual care. read more

I don't understand the negative reviews on this site. I have just had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy, and I could not have been more pleased with the level of care that I received. I am a senior and have had a lot of colonoscopies over the years. My experience here was as good, or better, than I have ever had. I and my wife have been patients of Dr. Mangan for many years. Our daughter was recently referred to the clinic and sheduled an appt. a month in advance. She had to reschedule and wait another month. Two days before the appt., having heard nothing, she called to confirm and was told the appointment was cancelled and would not be rescheduled because she had cancelled or rescheduled appointments in the past. I called to ask why she was being refused treatment and was told that Kelly, the clinical director, would call me back. She never did and when I called again, I was told that Kelly would not speak to me, my daughter or my wife because she didn't owe us an explanation. I have never encountered this level of arrogant and unprofessional disregard for patient care before. Despite my high regard for Dr. Mangan, I will not ever return to a practice so badly managed. read more

RUN, DO NOT WALK, away from this office. After going to the ER for a very painful case of diverticulitis, the phone "receptionist" would not let me have a nurse call me to give me directions on how to continue my dietary plan going forward-that I could get an appointment in a month! She said the nurses get angry if they have to deal with questions like mine. I complained to the office manager after calling back and getting a different receptionist. I continued to have to "google" my own care, until a couple of weeks later. Meeting with the male ARNP for Rodriguez, he had none of my procedures or history with him -no computer to discuss what had happened to me. He then recommended Metamucil-I asked what was its ingredients, and that I was allergic to seeds-he said he didn't know-what the psyllium based product actually was. HE DIDN'T EVEN TRY TO FIND OUT!! I googled it when I left- IT IS MADE FROM SEEDS' HUSKS WHICH CAN CAUSE ME TO HAVE ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK. That kind of "care" can get you killed! There is a different GI office in town now. I contacted the Digestive Disease Clinic On October 29, 2023, at approximately 1:30 AM, and left a message for the on-call physician. I was having a severe flair up with my GERD. He called back at 9:23 AM and stated to me that I didn't have a true emergency, which was fine. He also stated I woke him up for a non emergency situation and he needed to sleep and had rounds in the morning, advised me to contact my doctor during business hours. I didn't have a problem with him telling me that it was a non emergency call, the problem lies with his attitude, he was extremely rude and didn't think I was going post this message. I'm not going to put his name on blast, but sir, please be respectful and professional at alI times. It's call integrity ! I also apologize for calling for an no emergency situation, wasting his time.He continued to be rude and I reminded respectful until the call ended. I went to the digestive disease clinic for a problem that I was having, and it was kind of immediate, they wanted to give me an appointment a month away, but I was lucky in the fact that there was a cancellation. They requested that I come for a test that I made an appointment for this test, which I would have to fast for the first time they canceled and they rescheduled, the second time they canceled and now they've rescheduled it for a month later my feeling is is this test that important for my health, but they don't seem to want to give it to me. read more

Rating a medical office is so different from the typical food review! We checked in with ease, completed the necessary paperwork and we're called back to the exam room. The nurse was very friendly and focused. She did her thing and about 10 minutes later the physician came in. He was also very focused, and had prepared by reading medical history. After discussion, the doctor gave a recommended plan. There was nothing negative to our visit; it was quite comprehensive and certainly we left with more information than when we arrived. read more

I will avoid DDC in the future and I encourage others to do so also. The PA I saw confused me and made me feel as if I was bothering her with her abruptness, probably because I was confused and didn't understand what she was asking. She and the intake assistant were rude in their attitude (not verbally) and made me feel like I was bothering them. Their impatience and abruptness made me frustrated and angry. A lot of these reviews talk about mistakes that they've made or the fact that there's been a lot of bookings but there are a lot of patients in Tallahassee so of course there's gonna be a lot of bookings. If you're having an immediate issue go to the ER if there was a mistake with filing things happen. The care that I received is the care that I've wanted. You are your own advocator. The discussions I've had with my primary care and Gastro physicians have educated me to talk about what might be next. Don't let yourself be confused on YOUR body and YOUR conditions ask question, be curious not concerned or rude. I waited a max of 10 minutes once I got there five minutes before my appointment time. Be more educated on your condition because your condition is your care. You are your own best advocator stop acting as if you shouldn't be control of your own life. Don't let yourself be one step behind your own care. Doctors and mid levels are here for the patients to provide quality care with us. read more

This is THE WORST place ever. They tried to send me home with medications that were for another patient, and when I realized that they were for someone else, they refused to believe they had made an error until I forced the staff to go ask the prescriber for verification. They then called in a prescription for me that was actually for the other patient. I do not intend to EVER go back there if I can help it. read more

Horrible clinic, they don't really care about patients, I hate this place. I'm going to change specialists. They don't follow up and are horrible at communicating and follow up. I get there at 7:50am and all the parking spaces close to the entrance are already taken up... so their employees park close and make patients walk far. How rude! Plus... the place seems dirty to me and patient info displays in rooms are from 2015-16 and mostly empty, displays put on walks crooked, dim raunchy lighting in exam rooms, seems like they're from the 70s. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but I have valid reasons for providing a two star review. I was a patient of Dr. Konda but I am currently seeking a new specialist. I went to this clinic for over a year. My first impression of Dr. Konda was that she was knowledgeable and experienced but I felt she lacked in bedside manners. She did take the time to review the records from my prior Gastroenterologist on Atlanta but I didn't feel she took enough time to listen to my symptoms and concerns. Her overall recommendations seemed to be general suggestions that would apply to almost every individual with the same condition as me. I recently made a sick appointment as I was having another flare up and it was conflicting with work. Dr. Konda was not available so I had to see her ARNP; Dr. Louisa Dowling. She made me feel like she had better things to do than to listen to my concerns. She rushed me and based on the questions she asked, it appeared she did not look in my records and knew nothing about my history. She was NOT prepared for my visit! She insisted on completing my "annual exam" since I was close to being due rather than working with me on what was causing me to make a sick appointment in the first place. During this visit, I submitted FMLA paperwork because my flare up was causing me to miss work. I was later advised that she was not comfortable completing the paperwork and that I needed to ask Dr. Konda. I had to pass messages through Dr. Konda's nurse as Dr. Konda would never give me a personal phone call. She advised that I needed to come in to see her "to discuss paperwork" and did not understand my point that it was unfair that I pay another co-pay for an office visit "to discuss paperwork!" After I refused to come in for that reason, she advised that she did not feel my condition (a chronic illness that I have had for years) "qualified" for FMLA even though I was requesting intermittent leave only. I was infuriated. I ended up speaking with the Director of the clinic who apologized and understood where I was coming from; however, she basically said she had "no pull" over what the Doctors say. There is no client relations department and she wasn't able to do anything. I was also charged a specialist fee for the visit where I only saw the ARNP and not my specialist. My bank refunded the difference, but that is beside the point. There has got to be a clinic/office in Tallahassee where customer service is a priority, bedside manners are at an all time high and the Dr's are just as knowledgeable and experienced. I had an appointment today and my experience was great from the moment I checked in. I waited less than 5 minutes. The doctor's assistant Chaz went above and beyond. Her pleasant attitude put me at ease. I would definitely recommend Dr. Gao if you're experiencing gastrointestinal discomfort. read more

Beware of the Digestive Disease Clinic! I have been going to the DDC for 5 years. And to Dr. Gao at the DDC for 2 years. She finally did a colonoscopy after I insisted. She told me that I have Ulcerative Colitis with diarrhea! I told her that I didnt have diarrhea but constipation. She said Diarrhea means something different to a Gastroenterologist. Not true. Got a second opinion from Mayo Clinic. And was told, like I thought, that I DO NOT HAVE UC! And certainly not with diarrhea. Something weird and strange is going on at the DDC. Dr. Gao wanted to put me on a medicine for the rest of my life that can cause heart issues. The nurses obviously hate their job because they are mean. And the DDC has kept me coming back again and again without explaining what is wrong with me and without asking ME questions. Run away as fast as you can! Find another doctor not in this practice! Absolutely no follow up or care. This place is a money mill! They do procedures to get money from you and your insurance with zero follow up or care from the doctor. They do not return calls or answer questions. When the nurse finally did respond she gave zero information and no plan for what they would do so I still have no information. By the way it took calling plus sending messages via portal for 15 days before I was ever able to speak to anyone. And don't fall for the we will put you in the phone cue and call you back. You will never get a call back. If you are having issues and need medical care this is not the clinic to go to! I only gave one star because the system made me. I went here for G.I issues a few months ago they did do an endoscopy and colonoscopy but when they found a small hernia and when I told them my symptoms they simply dismissed me and said there's nothing we can do very disappointed and would not recommend going and seeing the guy I seen at least which was summerset , now I have to go through the headache of going to the Mayo Clinic so they can figure it out. read more

I've read the reviews here and am truly surprised at the negative reviews. I have a very rare liver disease which is usually missed for years before a doctor finally stumbles upon the correct diagnosis. I had just moved to Tallahassee when my disease became symptomatic, and Dr. Mangan discovered what was wrong with me within weeks. He coordinates my care with Mayo, and keeps up with all the latest news on possible treatments; not many doctors would do that after handing off a patient to another facility. Because I have been hospitalized multiple times with my illness, I've met most of the doctors in this practice, and have found all of them to be quite competent and caring. In fact, Dr. Singh performed a procedure that at the time only four facilities in Florida were able to do. I **highly** recommend Dr. Mangan and Digestive Disease Clinic. read more

I am a new patient at the Digestive Disease Clinic. I was referred by my primary care doctor for my upcoming routine colonoscopy. I completed all the preliminary paperwork ahead of time and brought them directly to their facility along with previous colonoscopy records from South Florida. The receptionist had my referral in their system and accepted my completed forms and records for my new patient file. If I could give this less stars, I would. Billing department is useless and rude. THEY CALLED ME to come in for a preventative/routine (their words) colonoscopy. I cleared this with my insurance company Aetna, and they said no problem. It would be fully covered. Due to the way they coded it, it was not covered and they refuse to change it to preventative/routine. Very disappointed in the way they treat their patients. I previously received a colonoscopy from Dr. Konda and I found her to be condescending and lacking in compassion and patience. As a result, when I received a 'positive for blood' result from a routine stool sample, I went searching for a new doctor. After taking some time to find a good place, the COVID19 breakout occurred. So I was forced to wait until voluntary procedures were again lawful. Later, when restrictions were lifted, I decided I would feel more comfortable having my procedure in a place where only colonoscopies occurred, not in a hospital where potentially sick people were around. So, I called Digestive Disease Clinic letting them know about my positive result and my need for a colonoscopy ASAP. I asked to change physicians to the physician my husband saw: Dr. Somerset. I was told I would have to wait for the doctor to approve the change of physicians. By then, I had delayed more than a month and I was somewhat worried that I needed to get the procedure done ASAP to rule out any cancer or other disease. After waiting nearly another month to hear back from Digestive Disease Clinic about changing physicians, I was told I could not change to a new doctor. I found myself back at square one, trying to find a doctor, when doctors are terribly backed up due to the COVID19 crisis. I am very disappointed in Digestive Disease Clinic and believe they do not place a very high value on the human beings they are treating. read more

I went in with severe abdominal pain that had continued for a while and was coming and going throughout my treatment. After paying $25 copay for each visit and several lab tests (some of which my insurance didn't cover because they were unnecessary), was told to buy over-the-counter fiber and probiotics. Dr. Mangan seemed annoyed every time I saw him, and each time I had a lab done, I had to speak with his nurse to have the codes adjusted so the bill wasn't $300. Absolutely horrifying. First, the good. The nurses and staff were all friendly and professional. But NEVER ONCE did Dr. Mota nor any of the staff let me know that this would NOT be done with an anesthesiologist yet they put you in a 'twilight sleep.' I would have NEVER agreed to this without being put out. Instead, I was wide awake and felt everything. I could hear the doctor and nurse talking the entire time. I kept crying out in pain and they didn't stop. Talk about a torture mill. When they did the follow-up call I told her about what happened and she said, oh, sometimes that happens when people have a high thresh hold for pain. I told her I would never be coming back ever. The Director called me 5 minutes later and to say she was condescending would be an understatement. I put her on speaker so my husband could hear what she was saying and he just shook his head. The moral of the story, NEVER go there and always insist on being put under by an anesthesiologist. read more

Sham! I have had multiple colonoscopies never anything not even a polyp. Have some worse IBS symptoms but all Dr. Mota was sure I needed a scoping. First wanted a test to do at home and quick look insurance did not cover - $200. WRONG I called and said it did cover but needed a medical code. NO REPLY. Sent request but signature required mail. NO RESPONSE. Called and asked to tell her - NO RESPONSE. Called and requested an appointment with another physician because Dr. Mota and I were not a good fit. NO RESPONSE. So it was my lucky day - Primary referred me to different practice, my ISB problem is remarkably better and virtually no longer a problem - NO COLONOSCOPY. BTW got a letter many months later to remind me of taking that home test. So not only did they try for unnecessary test they are totally incompetent in the rest of the office. NOTE: My Spouse had a colonoscopy in their surgical suite and was pleased but this was from his Primary not their judgement or lack of same. We have fantastic insurance but it is up to us to weight these things and I am a retired Nurse and Spouse is a Healthcare Lawyer. read more

Dr Konda is the worst practicing Gastro I've ever come in contact with & I have dealt with the Cleveland Clinic for 25 yrs and have had multiple surgeries from Cronh's disease. If I had a choice between her or an internist, I'd take the latter. She's I'll equipped and has minimal knowledge on chronic Crohn's disease. Do Not Use Her !!!! read more

Staff were excellent; friendly, personable, and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. Dr. Konda was very polite and professional.
