Would never use this guy again. "Larry" is almost impossible to deal with. We had a rotted deck…read morereplaced with a screened in porch. Small, 15x15. It took over a year to get it completed, and that is not including the approval and variances from the town! There were constant delays where he didn't have the staff to show up and code violations that had to be redone. On one occasion he sent his guys here without a ladder and told them "you can just use the homeowner's". REALLY ?!?! Nobody asked me about it and I'm not going to be liable when one of your guys falls off my ladder! On another occasion they used my hand tools I had outside without asking. And one other time they used my lumber I had outside from a project I was working on! The work was structurally solid, but the finish work was not good. Plastic labels were left on lumber instead of removing before installation, cut ends were not hidden when it would have been easy to do so. We had him install a "Drink Rail" on the porch hand rail, but then he installed the screen on the inside of the porch making the wider railing inaccessible and impossible to put a drink on. He installed the screen on the inside because it was easier for him - though he told me it would be easier for me to replace them. I might replace them once maybe twice in my life, but I will be constantly looking for a place to put my drink. At that point I was so done with him that I didn't care I just wanted to be done with this project. His guys were all very nice and helpful to us, but none of them spoke well of Larry. He seems very unorganized, unable to run his staff well, treat his staff well and frankly I'm amazed he's still in business. One of his guys was fired by Larry multiple times but kept being hired back because Larry needed him. Save yourself the anguish and the fights over the phone. Stay away from this guy.

Had our basement finished by them. While the work appears to be of good quality (only one major…read moreissue since completion 5 months ago that was addressed and remedied immediately), communication with Larry often proved to be challenging. While he was always very prompt at responding to us with any questions/concerns, at one point I felt that I needed to have some sort of paper trail and would only communicate with him via text/email as many things that were discussed had been forgotten or confused. The job also took 4 months longer than it was supposed to (contract said estimated completion in April 2018, job wasn't completed until August 2018). However, the basement looks beautiful and I am happy with the final product. One of his main guys Brian, and Larry's partner Kim, were very easy to work with, while we sometimes had push-back from Larry on ideas of ours. Upon final inspection, he pointed out flaws in the work done by some of his "inexperienced" workers (his words) and basically threw his own guys under the bus. I appreciate the honesty but that came off as a bit unprofessional. I believe that doing decks/porches are more their forte, as they have lots of amazing reviews for that kind of work. Maybe finishing a basement is too big of a job for them?

I've used Kris from KAR Construction three times and been very happy with him and his work every…read moretime. He's very knowledgeable, does quality work, and is a real nice guy. The biggest job I've hired him for so far was to brace/strengthen and refinish my deck. I had the decking replaced last year, but didn't get around to finishing it after it had seasoned. A year passed and the wood was starting to look dry and cracked. My little daughter couldn't go out barefoot anymore because she would get splinters every time. Kris gave me a competitive quote and made an excellent recommendation on a material to refinish and protect the decking. Now the deck looks brand new, it has a little bit of texture to provide traction if it's wet, no more splinters, and it's super easy to clean. It was an all-day job for Kris and two helpers, and I couldn't be happier. I appreciate that Kris is willing to do some little jobs too. I hired him to clean my gutters, and another time I hired him to do some repair work and repainting to part of the exterior of my house. It's good to have a business like KAR that you can always call on to do good work for anything related to home improvement or home repair.

And in two decades none of them have come close to the professionalism, price, trust and expertise KAR brings to job everyday. Kris and his crew essentially rebuilt my entire home over a 3 month period. Spanning from wall removal, bathroom renovation, rerouting electrical, custom sink installs,, adjusting floor deflections, baseboard customization, door installs, crown molding and painting. Literally everything I could throw at him was not only done on time, but it was done right and at the price quoted with no surprises and there was zero worry about leaving him and his team to work without me home or around my dog. Even the most mundane jobs, like silencing every creak in every floorboard and hot water pipe in the house was done and Kris refused to leave the job site until it was completed. You're not getting a guy that does contracting as his job. You're getting a contractor that DOES his job, period. No matter what you're looking to do, I highly suggest calling Kris first for a quote or second opinion. I'll wager the only problem you'll have is being forced to put out an extra plate on Thanksgiving because a new family member will be getting invited over.

My husband and I met with the owner (Jason) in March 2025 regarding a job that included a tub and…read moretile replacement (with an installation of a niche), installation of an exhaust fan, and removal of a towel rack and toilet tissue holder. We were responsible for the purchase of the tub, tiles, niche background, and shower fixture, and tub installation kit. The estimate noted that the job would be completed in 4-6 days. This 4-6 day job was not completed by the 9th day due to the staff working half days, not coming due to car issues and by the 9th day, the staff still had not properly replaced the shower handle they lost, they caused damage to our bathroom tile, and damaged the new water spout for the tub. Furthermore, the electrical work for the exhaust fan was not done. After discussion with my husband, we decided that we did not want Jason or his staff back in our home as we were not pleased with the quality of work done, the damage to bathroom floor tile, and for the poor solution to replacing the shower fixture that his employees lost(instead of replacing the shower handle with a handle to properly fit the shower, they used a standard handle and pried it open to fit the shower mount). In the end Jason, did deduct money from the final balance owed but that doesn't take away from the poor experience we had working with his company. While Jason was apologetic, we selected him because of the reviews online. I would hate to see someone else go through what we went through without being properly informed. I do not feel like this job was done properly, or managed properly. I would surely say that I will never hire another company based on online reviews. I just can't trust it. This experience really made me disinterested in hiring anyone that is not referred to us by words of mouth.
