Would never use this guy again. "Larry" is almost impossible to deal with. We had a rotted deck replaced with a screened in porch. Small, 15x15. It took over a year to get it completed, and that is not including the approval and variances from the town! There were constant delays where he didn't have the staff to show up and code violations that had to be redone. On one occasion he sent his guys here without a ladder and told them "you can just use the homeowner's". REALLY ?!?! Nobody asked me about it and I'm not going to be liable when one of your guys falls off my ladder! On another occasion they used my hand tools I had outside without asking. And one other time they used my lumber I had outside from a project I was working on! The work was structurally solid, but the finish work was not good. Plastic labels were left on lumber instead of removing before installation, cut ends were not hidden when it would have been easy to do so. We had him install a "Drink Rail" on the porch hand rail, but then he installed the screen on the inside of the porch making the wider railing inaccessible and impossible to put a drink on. He installed the screen on the inside because it was easier for him - though he told me it would be easier for me to replace them. I might replace them once maybe twice in my life, but I will be constantly looking for a place to put my drink. At that point I was so done with him that I didn't care I just wanted to be done with this project. His guys were all very nice and helpful to us, but none of them spoke well of Larry. He seems very unorganized, unable to run his staff well, treat his staff well and frankly I'm amazed he's still in business. One of his guys was fired by Larry multiple times but kept being hired back because Larry needed him. Save yourself the anguish and the fights over the phone. Stay away from this guy. read more

Had our basement finished by them. While the work appears to be of good quality (only one major issue since completion 5 months ago that was addressed and remedied immediately), communication with Larry often proved to be challenging. While he was always very prompt at responding to us with any questions/concerns, at one point I felt that I needed to have some sort of paper trail and would only communicate with him via text/email as many things that were discussed had been forgotten or confused. The job also took 4 months longer than it was supposed to (contract said estimated completion in April 2018, job wasn't completed until August 2018). However, the basement looks beautiful and I am happy with the final product. One of his main guys Brian, and Larry's partner Kim, were very easy to work with, while we sometimes had push-back from Larry on ideas of ours. Upon final inspection, he pointed out flaws in the work done by some of his "inexperienced" workers (his words) and basically threw his own guys under the bus. I appreciate the honesty but that came off as a bit unprofessional. I believe that doing decks/porches are more their forte, as they have lots of amazing reviews for that kind of work. We interviewed many contractors to repair our front porch and Larry was the easy choice. He's on time, easy to get a hold of, and he responds to you by email, text, or call. He explained what had to be done to repair our front porch and offered us different options. Completely thorough, professional, and worth the money and time. I had met with several deck builders. None of them informed me about the paperwork involved with the town. They simply wanted to get hired, get paid, and start. Larry was the ONLY one who supplied a portfolio of previous jobs. He also explained the lengthy permit process, which I confirmed with Town Hall. This was an eye opening and MASSIVE plus!!! Walt and Chris worked tirelessly and meticulously to build our beautiful deck and Larry was on hand occasionally to supervise. He kept us informed us during every step of the process. The result is a BEAUTIFUL deck that has been cleared by the town. I cannot emphasize just how happy we are with the entire process and the finished job. Do your research first, and then stick with NY Worker Bees. Don't waste your time with this guy... another one of those contractors with fraud and dishonesty in the planning... Wouldn't even give him one-star if there was a way to post ZERO stars. First of all, "Larry" shows up at 6:30pm for a 5:00pm appointment, doesn't offer even a courteous apology, but instead says he's been "running all day since early morning and it's been a long day". Apparently he thinks others don't have a similar day -- especially professionals like us -- and obviously isn't from the class that realizes a quick apology is the normal and expected thing to do when having kept homeowners waiting like this on a Sat evening of all days. Then, before even discussing the first word for the work he was called in to give an estimate for (Trex Deck Railing), he immediately begins by criticizing that the deck needs "extensive repairs" and wasn't installed correctly. What the... ??? This is a brand new, just completed, professionally installed, 2,000+ square foot huge deck, (probably larger than anything he's ever seen before let alone worked on), and which has received all mandatory inspections and approvals from Town Inspectors (different ones each time) every step of the way. Deck had just been completed, with premium wood even, and was stained. Each board screwed in the right way with premium deck screws and not cheaply shot in with a nail gun, and is said to be a beautiful creation by every visiting deck and rail contractor -- all top quality rated guys who came by to give estimates for various associated deck-related items we want. All that is needed now on our deck is to install deck railing which is why we called this guy. Oh, but the first words out of this character's mouth is "The deck needs EXTENSIVE repairs because... -- ready for this? -- "... because it wasn't built according to code". Really! Think maybe he should tell that to the Town Inspectors who came here with Building Code in hand and approved everything every step of the way?? So he starts by trying to explain the process of how deck drawings and the like are first prepared and filed with the town for approval... I guess assuming that all this hadn't already been done or that we didn't know... ??? Who builds a beautiful, professionally constructed and approved, gorgeous 2,000+ square foot outdoor rear deck on a $1.75Million Dollar home without having plans, field inspections, and approvals done every step of the way?? What is this guy used to dealing with, uneducated, unprofessional, unknowledgeable people or perhaps baboons in a zoo? Once I interrupted his ridiculous charade which was plainly geared towards trying to fraudulently drum up business and extort money from people like us who obviously have it, he was told to just measure the deck and give us a railing price, period. At that moment he says, "Ya know, I don't think we're the Company for you". To which I replied, "You're right! See ya!". LOL Is this the kind of guy you'd want to hire to work at your home?? You decide. To walk away from a $20,000 Trex Deck Railing job says only the kind of things that prove he's not the guy for the job. Either he doesn't know how to do the job because it's out of his league, or he has no confidence in his ability to do the job correctly, or he has no manpower to do a job this size, or he doesn't want the job for other reasons known only to him but obviously reasons that speak to his inability to do the work. All of that is fine, but just be straight with people at the outset and tell them. Any contractor who starts off by criticizing something that is brand new and obviously beautiful and so rock solid in its construction that Town Inspectors asked my permission to photograph it so they could use it as a model to show others as an example how decks should be constructed, is obviously a guy with something dishonest and fraudulent up his sleeve. Certainly not someone to do business with or be trusted to even drive a screw into a piece of wood, let alone install approximately 250 linear feet of high quality deck railing! Oh and... did I mention "Larry" quoted a totally illegitimate price for each section of railing? Pre-assembled by Trex, a section of railing Larry the "highly experienced" contractor quoted actually costs about $135 to the general public for materials only... but he said he has to pay $300 for each section at "his cost" for materials only. Suuuuure he does... I'd bet he has a bridge somewhere to sell me too... Being fore-warned is being fore-armed. Stay away from this guy at ALL costs! read more
