Recently had Digitoons out for a party we threw. We were extremely excited after exploring the website and looking at past work there as well as on Yelp. We booked this 6 months out and were most excited for this vendor. Tiki had an impressive body of work and we were impressed. In the months leading up to the party Tiki was very responsive. When reaching out to confirm how I can make the final payment he casually said Ken will be able to accept it. I asked who Ken was and he informed me that he was sorry for the mix up and he's mostly retired and Ken his son takes his gigs now. This was disappointing to hear, but two days out we tried to make the best of it. Tiki apologized and drew a photo of the birthday boy remotely to make up for it which we appreciated. On the day of Ken was very nice, showed up on time. He forgot a power strip, but fortunately the venue had one. Not sure what the work around would have been if they did not. He set up and got to work. Right away we noticed it took much longer per photo than expected. Most folks including us sat for 10-15 minutes. Much longer than the expected 3-5 minutes. A couple of days after the party we received the digital gallery link from Ken, and unfortunately for the whole party with a constant wait, only 11 people got pictures. Additionally when looking at how Digitoons sets up in Yelp reviews, they put up a sign or banner advertising it. Unfortunately they did not for this, so it got around by word of mouth really. In the end it was a fun addition to the party, but felt a little like a like a bait and switch. We booked based on the quality of work that Tiki provided and while Ken is a very nice guy his art isn't up to par with his Dad. The Digitoons website in its entirety speaks about Tiki, not once does it mention anything else. I don't think they intentionally tried to bamboozle us, they seem like great people. We just didn't get what we paid for and only found out a few days before the party. Tiki informed me that his rate would have been much higher for himself, but that's not what's advertised on his site. read more

The definition of "caricature" is a picture or imitation of a person which certain striking characteristics are exaggerated to create a comic effect. And there are professional caricature artists who do this to entertain people. Upon referral by my party coordinator, Tessa Gomes of Fred + Kate Events, I contracted DigiToons Hawaii for my granddaughter's 3rd birthday party. Philip Wulf (or "Tiki") of DigiToons does caricature drawings in color using a digital tablet (like an iPad, but bigger). As a Digital Caricature Artist, he uses a mix of tech, art, and hand drawing to produce cute cartoon-like drawings of you with the profile view in 3 minutes or a frontal view in 5 minutes. I gave a preference for Tiki to draw frontal views and gave him the discretion to change to the profile view if the line got long to speed things up a bit so that our guests would not be waiting so long. The pictures are displayed on a wall or screen up to 10', and free individual prints 4"x6" printed in 5 seconds and are given to you. You can also access your pictures and see samples of others on DigiToons' website by clicking on "Gallery." There was a continuous queue fronting the DigiToons booth, which made this booth very popular among the guests. I could see that Tiki tried to capture each person's individual characteristics that were unique, whether it be the eyes, hair, or the smile. He would also talk to them to get a better idea of who they are and what they like, too possibly add to his drawing. The digital technology allowed him to quickly add color, hair textures, and background if there is a theme. I thought Tiki was very talented in his drawings, which he received many compliments from our guests. Plus, they loved to have a copy of his drawings to take home! He worked quickly as everyone couldn't wait to see themselves in his drawings. Tiki has had an interest in art since he was a youngster by drawing comics, then started drawing at festivals and local amusement parks, and graduated to drawing at Magic Mountain and Universal Studios in CA; at Tokyo Disneyland; and subsequently moved to Honolulu in 2014. He also has experience in design and animation, and has worked on a cartoon for Nickelodeon TV and several web games. Tiki was easy to work with in contracting him for his services. It helps to book him from three months to one year in advance. Coordination was done via e-mail, and he responded to my inquiries right away. His requirements included having a space about 5'x8' to set up the projector screen and an electrical outlet within 20', a few chairs, and a table. He arrived 20 minutes before the party to set up and promptly was ready at the start time we designated. DigiToons has been entertaining guests at birthday parties, wedding receptions, and corporate events. I am so glad I was able to contract them for this party, as Tiki produced great drawings for everyone, and it was a fun experience for all ages. This is an excellent entertainment venue for guests, which I would gladly contract with them again if I am planning a party! read more

Tiki was awesome! I had a caricature of myself and my husband done at our friend's son's 1st Birthday Party. He uses an iPad like tablet to quickly sketch you and he finishes pretty quickly in about 5-10 mins so he can get through a good amount of people in a short time period. I looked at his pricing listed on his website that said $150/hour for the first 2 hours and then $100/hour after that. The pricing sounds steep at first, but after planning my own wedding 3 years ago, that's not bad for a vendor that both kids and adults can enjoy. He was also very personable and did mention that we could download our images for free on his website which I thought was great. I'll definitely be hiring him for our own child's 1st bday party...but first I gotta work on having a baby first LOL. Totally recommend him if you're looking for a fun and different vendor for your event! read more

I hired Tiki for my son's high school graduation party that we recently held at Dave & Busters, based upon the positive reviews here on Yelp. I originally got the idea from seeing a post on social media from a friend of mine who hired another caricature artist for a party she organized, but I was disheartened by the high rates that were quoted (I'm not a rich guy). I found Tiki's Digitoons business on Yelp and reached out to him on his website, and he replied quite promptly. Not only are his rates very reasonable, but he was easy to work with leading up to the party and also during my son's party. He was a hit with my family and friends, very personable and genuine, and exceeded my expectations. The event coordinator at Dave & Busters was also very familiar with Tiki (and recommended him also) so they knew exactly what to provide for him for his setup (e.g. table, a couple of chairs, located near an outlet, etc). With everything going on at the party and trying to orchestrate things with the 3 hours that we had the event space, one thing that I didn't have to worry about was Tiki and my guests while they were with him. This review is long overdue since my daughters' birthdays in August. So less than a month to go until we flew back home to Oahu for our daughters' birthdays, I decided that it was a great idea to have Tiki draw caricatures at our potluck. However, he wasn't available and he said his son was available and he could do it. I said, "great, let's book him." I didn't NEED any frills at this potluck since it was a casual event, but I felt like I wanted to give our guests something to remember the day. I had my friend bring his photobooth for my first daughter's 1st birthday. The caricatures would have been something unique. Then a week before the event, I received an email and a refund in my Paypal account. I thought, "Oh no, what happened?" Tiki regret to inform me that his son was not available and there was a mixup. Ok, deep breath. Tiki apologized and gave me recommendations on another artist he knew. Or he asked me if I would like to try PartyHatz, which would allow our guests to have custom made hats. So after discussing with my husband, we agreed to have custom hats as our party "favor"/entertainment for our guests. Cassandra was prompt and professional and fought mother nature (it was windy that day) to setup her area. Once she was setup, I put in my hat order, of course. Then quickly the rest of our guests lined up to get their requests in. Before we knew it, all hats were claimed and everyone had their own custom hats to wear before the party ended. I definitely posted all the hats on my instagram account and all of our friends in California were so impressed and asked me to order hats for them. I always say everything happens for a reason. Having Cassandra at our party was a blessing. Little did I know, our party was her first actual event for PartyHatz. She did so well and our family and friends were so happy. Definitely memorable. So thank you to Tiki and Cassandra for making it happen! After the party, Tiki emailed me and drew me this beautiful caricature of my two daughters. They both love looking at the drawing every day on my phone (it's my screensaver). Hopefully, next time I won't wait until the last minute to book Tiki. Tiki is absolutely amazing! I actually switched my daughters party date to have him because I really liked his work and I'm so happy I did. We got nothing but praises from our guests and they enjoyed watching him draw live on his projector screen. He was busy the entire party and worked non-stop for our guests. He came on time, he made a free poster of my son & he even offered to start drawing right before the party starting for my friends. We hired him for my son's first birthday and it was a huge hit. I thought that only the little kids would want their pictures drawn, but in fact, a number of adults got in the line, too! What makes this service extra cool is that your party guests get to take home a printed caricature AND you can download the file from his website gallery later. Everyone was thrilled with this, including a friend's daughter who so loved her photo that she slept with it under her pillow that night! How cute is that? Without hesitation, I highly recommend Tiki & DigiToons! Tiki made me look like a rock star! I was on the hunt for something unique and fun for an annual company picnic and was very excited with the idea of having caricatures done. After some on-line research, I discovered that he is one of the few local artists who will do full face vs. side-view portraits. That is one of the key reasons I decided to schedule him for our event. During the booking process he was easy to work with, quick to respond and was extremely accommodating. Due to our RSVP numbers, we had more in attendance than originally anticipated, but when I contacted him, he was more than happy to work with us and extend our time. On the day of our event, he showed up, set-up and got right to it. He also came with a projector so you can see his work live! Seeing his artwork projected and come together in real time was very entertaining and highly impressive. Tiki was extremely personable and made everyone feel comfortable during their individual portraits. Every team member who decided to get drawn was thrilled with the results, and the owners of our company were excited to have such a fun addition to our day. The fact that we were able to walk away with a 4x6 color photo of our portraits was wonderful. Plus, we have the ability to go online and have it produced in larger sizes. My first experience with Tiki was 6 years ago when he designed my daughter and son in-law's wedding invitation, we wanted a humorous theme. So many guest told us how much they enjoyed receiving the invitation, it was a BIG HIT! He captures the feeling of the get-together. This year Tiki designed our family Christmas card and he followed exactly what we are trying to portray with the caricatures. It even surprised me! Tiki from DigiToonsHawaii was a huge hit at my daughters birthday party. He arrived on time, set up quickly and started drawing away for 5 straight hours. We originally reserved 4 hours, but since some of our guests still wanted a caricature done, Tiki accommodated us. Very grateful that he was flexible so our guests at the end of the line still went home with a drawing. Tiki's caricatures are so detailed. He did 37 drawings and I can see the resemblance between the person and the caricature drawn for all of them. Some of the kids requested to be drawn with Frozen characters, with Minnie ears, as a magician and as a sumo. One of our friends said his son was so happy, just tickled because Tiki drew him with a Tesla. The drawings are a great keepsake and can even be downloaded afterward from a website.
