Years ago, when my son attended, I was a single parent in a difficult situation, working at a domestic violence shelter that ultimately helped me escape an abusive relationship. My partner controlled our transportation and finances, making it nearly impossible to keep appointments consistently. We were TennCare patients. When we missed three appointments, I called to apologize and explain. The staff member I spoke with was cold and dismissive. There were no questions about our barriers, no offer of support or flexibility. I truly believe that TennCare patients were targeted during that time. When you miss appointments, the clinic doesn't get paid, and it felt less like concern for my son's care and more like we were wasting your time and money, not like you genuinely wanted to help us overcome our barriers. Before that conversation, my son loved coming to Brink & White. He was excited about the ceiling TVs, the tree house, the caring dentists. He looked forward to his appointments. I kept a Pokemon colouring page he coloured during one of those earlier visits for years. Now when I look at it, I know I'm doing what's right even though we were done wrong. Now I supervise a public health clinic. When patients miss appointments, I ask what's happening. Are they facing transportation issues? Financial hardship? How can we help? That's compassion. That's community health. I hope you've trained your staff better since then. My son's teeth are excellent now, but not because of your help. We overcame without you.

My dentist went out of network, after an extraction and bone graft but before the implant and crown, so I sought a new one for that and, most pressingly, to check on the recently arising pain in the tooth just before the empty space. I set an appt here. First, I was told to return to my prior Dentist to have him check the bite on a six month old crown (the painful tooth in question), despite my coming to Botts because the other one was out of network now. However, the only options this botts Dentist provided was to sign a waiver, absolving him of any liability should he damage my tooth in adjusting the bite, or go back to the other dentist. I was frustrated bc I expressly made the appointment about the troublesome tooth, and I felt like I'd been misled when they well knew why I set the appointment. Still, I put that aside, and I go back to my former dentist; then I return to bots asking for a quote for the implant. Since my former dentist had already said I needed a small filling, I let botts do the procedure that day to avoid more wasted time. After the filling was complete, I was quoted approximately $200 for a small insurance-covered filling--which was odd bc I've never paid more than $110, and my prior dentist is one of the top rated in the city. Yet again, I was told that I would have to come back for a separate visit to get the quote; they wouldn't even give me a ballpark without attending the appointment. No one said it would cost anything. So, I set that appointment and returned for it, but no quote was given at the end of the appointment. Instead, they said they'd call me. Minutes after leaving l get a phone call. It's them saying I owe them approximately $200. When I questioned it, the lady said she would call me back. Someone then calls me back, someone different, and says to disregard what the prior person said, that it was an error. A month passes with no quote, and I'm realizing this just isn't a good fit. So, I find a new dentist who promptly got me in for the cleaning and set the implant appt within a month. The situation felt shady, just off to me, so I counted it as an early revelation and moved on. I thought, hey, Botts is behind me, so I didn't plan to post my negative experience. However, after this nasty exchange in the photos, I thought I'd post it and let you read it for yourself. You can also see she lied about a late cancellation. I canceled on June 24th for a July 1 appointment. And before you ask, no, it's not just the receptionist or whomever has the phone. The dentist's bedside manner is also off putting. I just thought it was his personality, but I see it's a culture. Reach your own conclusion about whether it's a fit for you.

Thoroughly unhappy with my experience at this dental practice…read more 1. I felt like I was on I conveyor belt, rather than a patient much less a human being. 2. Nothing was properly explained to me, no care plan was presented to me with costs. I was bombarded by numbers and means by which the practice could extract dollars out of my wallet and my available annual dental benefit. 3. A partial was produced same day to help me get through an interview the following day. The first number was $275, once the practice manager had done her magic, it was $395. 4. Dr. Smith fitted the partial at 4:30 PM, but did not explain anything with regards to the care of the partial other than putting in a denture bath when not in use. 5. I was promised a call with regards to presentation of a care plan and a number of options based on that care plan. More importantly they could not tell me how much anything was and four days later I still did not have any idea of costs or what the care plan approach was. This lack of transparency made me feel very unhappy and uncomfortable with continuing my treatment with this practice. This dental practice seems to be very busy and no one seems to have any time for patient care, there is more emphasis on what insurance you have and how you are going to pay for your visit. The practice manager was rude and discourtesies, I would strongly caution use of this Dental practice as nida the doctor know his stuff are engaged in patient care more about extraction of money.
