View of the Water

Gayle and I recently stopped here for Lunch on our way from St. John's to our weekend in Trinity. I'll leave it to a reader's imagination regarding this word, but Wiki will offer some plausible options. While the restaurant is upstairs, a well stocked gift shop beacons upon arrival. My dear Wife continues to be an Angel in letting us take Lunch at a Brewpub of my choice. In the case of the Dildo Brewing Company, the namesake town on the water is very pretty, while enjoying ones Lunch with a version of that view was yet another gorgeous outport experience. Our food choices were solid - Mussels for Gayle and a Soup/Sandwich combination for me. We both enjoy beer on the heavy side and our Stout choice complemented our meal well. Like anywhere else in rural Newfoundland, you have to drive awhile to get where you're going. The Dildo Brewing Company in our opinion was well worth the journey.

I would highly recommend this brewery. Worth the drive to Dildo. NL Food 4/5 very good quality. I ordered the seafood chowder. The accompanying piece of bread was tiny. But it was loaded with yummy seafood therefore the $15 seemed worth it. Others order 2 pc fish and chips and fish tacos. All raved about the quality. Beer 4/5 I really liked the Dildo light best. Ordered flight to determine the ones we liked flavour of most. Bought a few cans to take home Service 3/5 not exactly friendly but acceptable and just attentive enough to get a 3 Washroom cleanliness 5/5 Location and view. 5/5 Fun vibe. Helped it was a glorious day weather wise.

If you're visiting Dildo NL you won't be able to resist stopping at the Dildo Brewing Co. & Museum. Brightly painted in yellow and overlooking the blue waters of Dildo Arm you'll never miss this awesome brew pub. A great spot to stop and take pics, gift shop and taste test selection of specialty brews- all while taking in the picturesque scenery that Dildo has to offer. They have a large outdoor patio overlooking the water- or if you prefer indoor seating you can sit inside and admire the view through the large garage doors separating the indoor/outdoor spaces. To my surprise they even feature a real deal pizza oven! I snagged myself some merch on the way out- a Dildo Brewing Co. & Museum t-shirt to remember the day by. Another great place I would recommend anyone planning a trip to Newfoundland & Labrador to visit.

This was my first time to Newfoundland, on a business trip. Dildo brewery was recommended by locals, so had to check out the location for no other reason than the name (obviously). The POSITIVES: * location was premier on the water front * staff were nice and inviting * the food was cooked/ prepared well (see image) * the beer was cold, flavorful, and had great color * merchandize area * museum (didn't have time to visit) * our server, Emma R. The NEGATIVE: (reason for 4 out of 5 stars) ~The amount of time it took to receive our food. It was myself and a coworker (see receipt for items ordered and time of order). We ordered the standard meals and a couple beers. It took 45minutes to get, what I would call a basic order. We were hoping to have a fair amount of time to check out the area but unfortunately due to how long it took to get our meals , we had to rush back to St. John's airport. Maybe our expectation was unreasonable or naive to the culture of the "time management" in Dildo. Definitely operates more like "Island Time" than a typical pub/ bar & grill. I would definitely recommend Dildo Brewery for their beer, food, and hospitality. However, make sure you have an open time frame , no obligations that may effect your experience at DB&G.

Honestly delicious Turkey soup. Newfie poutine -- the best. Golden fish and chips. Good selection of beers all in a funky, charming space with spectacular views. You never know what you'll find around the next curve in the road. Thanks for having us.

No explanation provided. It's a shame really because is a lovely place. I should add that this was not the first visit but it was the last. Previous visits were better but only marginally. The service isn't great and the food isn't worth waiting for. However, they do have a good selection of beer.

Windows and doors wide open you feel the fresh air off the water. Couldn't ask for a more perfect way to spend the afternoon or evening with friends or family over a drink +/- food. Despite the pub fare focused menu I threw caution to the wind and ordered the vegetarian pizza and it didn't disappoint. Good size for 2 people, light, airy, yet chewy crust (?wood fire oven) and full of flavour. Paired with a Mill Street Organic Lager and you've got a great Saturday evening meal. Our waitress was fantastic! Super warm and friendly. Made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. I give The Stone Jug 4/5 stars only because they do not have many "vegetarian options" on their menu (fish & chips, salad, and veg pizza) AND the building is not easily accessible to folks with mobility challenges; there is no wheelchair ramp.

Linda and her late husband, Bobby, opened the restaurant in 1977 to supplement their income from their declining grocery store. As promised, she was full of stories. She's in her late 60s and kept us entertained. The place is overflowing with things Linda has collected and things that have been given to her over the years. There are 1500+ spoons, lots of pictures, army helmets ... you name it! This is a large collection of cards ... not only business cards but driver's licenses, university IDs, etc. Apparently kids stop by after having a few too many and leave their important IDs (because they don't have business cards) under the glass ... they probably don't think it's such a grand idea the next day once they have sobered up. Barb helps Linda out at the bar. She lives down the street and had some great stories too. If you are in the Quidi Vidi area, you have to stop in and visit this place. Linda and Barb are very friendly and it's quite an experience.

If you want to be screeched in this is the place to do it. Go see Linda the owner and she will set you up. Today, my colleague got "screeched in". This process involves getting a shot of 90% alcohol homemade rum, she brings the frozen puffin which is over 20 years old preserved cryogenic style and you kiss the puffin bum. We watched a young gentleman get screeched in as well and she said "I'm going to have a wet dream about you". You get a signed certificate after issue by the Royal Order. You have to see it to believe it. Screeched ! (Warning this is not the place for the faint of heart)

We had reservations and were seated in an upper area with extremely uncomfortable bench seating. The bench was so high and narrow that my feet didn't even come close to touching the floor. The tables were packed tightly together with virtually no room to move. At the table beside us, one gentleman had to stand away from the table for most of the meal because the sloped ceiling prevented him from sitting comfortably. On the other side, seven people were squeezed into what looked like a space meant for four. The food was, without question, the worst meal we had during our two weeks in Newfoundland. My husband ordered gravy with his fries and it arrived dark, thick and congealed. Paying an extra $3 for it only added to the disappointment. I figured George Street might be better suited for drinks and live music, but unfortunately the beverages were equally underwhelming. I tried two different mixed drinks that had little to no alcohol taste, flat 7-Up, and overall poor flavour. The next two shooters I ordered were better, but I still questioned the alcohol content. I'm someone who gets tipsy fairly easily and after several drinks I didn't feel the slightest buzz. I won't go into the conditions of the Washrooms. The two positives were the music, which was excellent and our server, who was attentive and quick with drink service throughout the evening. What surprised me most was that when we left, there was a lineup out the door waiting to get in. I honestly can't explain it based on our experience. The music was good, so perhaps that's the draw, but the food, drinks, and seating left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, this was not the George Street experience we were hoping for.
