Men's clothing was where my wife dragged me to buy some new pants. Yes, mine were very old and I was beginning to dress like a homeless guy. Shopping is not fun for me. Well, in the men's area we were approached by a very nice, young black woman (I do not have her name) who paried up with my wife and they started to pull trousers. I was banned to a dressing room. My job was to try on whatever they brought me, so I took off my shoes and socks and waited. I now know what hell must be like. I tried on a lot of trousers and am amazed that there were some that fit nicely and that I liked. I ended up with the start of a new wardrobe and my wife had a new friend. I have been here many times and have found really great dresses and other things! The staff is those departments were wonderful! However, the staff in the shoe department make shopping here uncomfortable and really not fun. It isn't polite to be rude and demanding to a customer insisting they purchase the shoes from you and only you and can't leave the shoe department before doing so. I told the associate I was still looking at dresses but was insisted upon buying the shoes with her before looking at another department. Overall I usually enjoy this store, but the shoe department really puts a damper on that. read more

My remembrances of this store date back to 1971 when it was J.B. Ivey's. Newly married, my wife got a sale position at this location (South Park) and enjoyed working there. I was a great place to work. Fast forward to 1973 and Louise is expecting Chris, our middle child and he was born in early December 1973. That was the time I was changing jobs so money was tight and one day in November, we got a notice in out JB Ivey bill that they were looking for temporary workers for the Christmas Season. Said why not, we could use the money and it was only for a short period of time, so I signed up, was accepted and reported to the downtown Charlotte Store for orientation. I was assigned to the South Park Location and my first day on the job was the afternoon shift on Black Friday. I was assigned to the Books (makes sense) Crafts and Notions. I had been on the floor for all of 5 minutes when this older lady walks up and informs me that she wants to return some books she had borrowed. Ivey's had a policy that they will take anything back so long as it has a receipt. Needless to say, I asked for her receipt, and she told me she does not have one and that she only borrowed them, and her son told her she should not do that. Back up. This was not covered in our sales training. Finally after what seemed forever, one of the other sales associates walked up to me and said, by the way, this is Mrs. Ivey and she does this all of the time. Expecting to get fired, she was most gracious and said no need because I was only looking out for the store. She then proceeded to ask me what books I recommended and by the end of it, it was the largest sale for that department for that day and she made a point of seeking me out when she wanted to make a book purchase. Service goes too ways. I was only seasonal but after the Christmas Rush, they asked me to stay on which I did till either May or June. JB Ivey's was like family and after they were acquired by Dillard's, they still had that comradery feel. Still frequently shop there and at other Dillard's locations and after 52 years, still carry a Dillard's Cards and with Christmas coming up, will definitely be using it because of the combination of quality, value and service I find her. read more

Things at Dillard's have drastically changed over the last year and not in a good way. I have been a customer since early 2000 and have always had a great, enjoyable and relaxing shopping experience with great customer service and attention. However, my last visits have been very unremarkable and left looking at Dillard's as a shell of its former self. When you go to Dillard's now, there isn't anyone to greet you which has been a staple of their customer service. The selection of clothing in each men's department has been reduced from being able to browse for an hour to maybe 10 minutes now. I often find many shelves empty, disorganized and in disarray. When I finally do find something worth buying that's when every sales associate and their mother is ready to help me checkout. I will skip them and go to maybe the shoe department or the fragrance counter just for spite. I do believe that the pandemic has had an effect on Dillard's yet there still should be a sense of pride and aim towards customer service and satisfaction and that's no longer the case. read more

Two words - customer service!!! The employees at Dillard's are willing to go above and beyond your expectations. They are very knowledgeable about their products and tell you the honest truth. I used to think that Dillard's didn't really have many deals because they didn't do coupons but then I wised up to their many sales and the best sale of the year the New Year Day sale!!!! If you have never been to one you've got to come a least once and experience the savings and sheer magnitude of people in the store. All permanently reduced items are an additional 50% off. If you want to get more saving get a Dillard's reward card and start earning 10% off shopping passes. One great perk is the card holders get a preview day when they have their additional off sale. The SouthPark mall store has so many different brands and exclusive items that the other Dillard's don't get. Remember also during this holiday season that Dillard's is one of the few places in the mall that wraps gifts that were purchased in their store. read more

Walked through this Dillard's today. Everyone was fine until we got to the 3rd level to look for curtains. This male Dillard's staff member followed us everywhere on the 3rd level. Gave us attitude when I had to look for a receipt in my purse. I needed the receipt to identify which specific brand item I needed to look for. I know it took a while for me to sort, but I was doing this without interfering with anyone else. We were off to the side by bedding. Since he loves the 3rd floor inventory so much and can only make spiteful facial expressions, then he can absolutely keep all the inventory and we will spend our hard earned money somewhere else. read more

I went to Dillard's South Park on Monday, April 24, 2023. I selected an expensive and waited for a sales associate to acknowledge my existence. It never happened. After 30 minutes of not seeing an associate come into sight, I qit trying. I told an associate in the Shoe Department on the way out that Dillards had lost out on a $700 sale, that associate was not interested in the least. Horrible experience. I had recently purchased a pair of really cool shoes from Dillard's a month before the pandemic right after all the stores in North Carolina had closed down for about 2 months. Once reopening most stores had Memorial Day sales and I realized the shoes I had purchased and never worn where on sale for $63 dollars less than what I had paid. My thought was to return and repurchase and recouping the savings, when I arrived at the store I went to the first service agent I noticed and stated I had an exchange. I now know this agent as Marcus, he opened the box and closed it simultaneously not even really looking at the shoes, he just immediately said these shoes are worn and I cannot give you an exchange. Surprised by his reaction I stated the shoes have never been worn, he said yes, these shoes have been worn and I'm not giving you a refund, again I said these shoes have never been worn. I stood there in astonishment I couldn't believe what I was hearing or seeing, he insulted me in front of other customers with his tone and body language in addition he was blatantly calling me a liar, I couldn't believe his actions or what I was seeing and hearing. He called a manager and said on the phone in front of me I have a lady here and you'll need to help her with her exchange I'm not going to, she wore the shoes and wants a return! The manager arrived in minutes, I now know her as Nell and she looked at the shoes because he stormed off, Nell said these shoes haven't been worn if they have it was from the wear in the shoe department, he circled back and tried to convince her she was wrong and stormed off again. Nell politely ignored his actions but I didn't it was obvious he was pissed. Danielle another agent in the department remembered me and selling me the shoes, she was apologetic and expressed empathy on behalf of her colleague's behavior but too was surprised by his reaction. I've never felt so horrible as a customer, my husband who was shopping in the men's department came over on the tail end and couldn't believe that I was experiencing problem with a return nor could he believe the Dillard's employee had treated me so poorly and disrespected me like I was thief or someone who was doing something dishonest. My entire shopping experience was almost ruined, truly that experience had me feeling salty about even shopping the rest of day. Nell and Danielle handled the transaction and I was satisfied, I thanked them for being my saving grace. Throughout the store I was greeted by several Dillard's employees so I was able to brush off the bad experience in the shoe department but I'll never forget how Marcus made me feel. I honestly feel there were racial overtones about the entire situation because the way he addressed me an African American woman was not like how he spoke or addressed other white woman in the shoe department. In difficult times like today when so many American's are facing unemployment and life changing situations should anyone ever have to be treated this way - ever! I know I'll be returning to the South Park store and if I see him I'm leaving, I'll go buy my shoes at Belk or somewhere in the mall before I give him the satisfaction of ever serving me again. read more

Before I wrote this review about the shoe department at Dillards South Park Mall, I read other reviews about the same person that I have had problems with before. I had six shoes in my hand and was looking for a sales person to help me. A woman, who I think is the manager, asked if I needed some help. I told her that I did, but didn't want the short man to wait on me because he's really rude. Well he started complaining to the manager, when I started working with a very another person. He finally came out of the back room glaring at me, swinging his fist into his hand. While leaving the mall, my friend and I made a last-minute decision to stop by Dillards and look at their shoes. While doing so, we were looking at heels and one of the workers at the store asked us if we were okay in a very aggressive tone. We were a little confused by the question, but went on shopping anyway. We walked in the opposite direction of her to look at more shoes. While doing this for about a minute, she aggressively stomped over to us and rudely asked are you guys okay? And before this even happened, we could feel her watching us and it was just so abrasive and we would've spent our money here but after this horrible experience, that will never happen. Overall, I'm just incredibly disappointed that a worker would think we were shoplifting or at least that's what I believe she thought when we were just minding our own business and shopping like anyone else. Like a lot of other reviewers on here, I too wish Dillard's was priced more like TJ Maxx or Marshalls, but one staff member keeps me coming back (and willing to pay full price for stuff) and that person is Debi in women's formal wear! Last spring she assisted me in finding the perfect last minute dress to attend the Queen's Cup Steeplechase in (a friend had gifted us tix the night before!) Then yesterday she outfitted me in the most gorgeous "must have" black pencil skirt of the season, and convinced me that I was buying my tops too large (I'm definitely a size "medium" in most clothing, but since I'm tall I lean towards a large for extra sleeve length when needed. When the silk blouse I adored was not available in a medium or large, she insisted on having me try on the small and guess what (?) It fit perfectly!! Mark my words: If you are lucky enough to encounter the talented DEBI BUMGARNER (the dress specialist in women's apparel) . . . Trust her. I am so astonished that I haven't written a review for Dillard's since I practically live here!! When it comes to department stores I am 100% a Dillard's and Nordstrom's girl. My favorite place in Dillard's is their shoe department. I shop all over in the store, but I will never go there and not take a tour around the shoe department. Their private brands such as Gianni Bini and Antonio Melani are some of my favorites (and rather affordable). The layout is standard to all department stores really. Outside of shoes their other departments: beauty, jewelry, and handbags are all very nice as well. They do have an amazing sale twice a year and if you are a Dillard's card holder you get early access. I've bought many an items during that sale!! The clothes departments I'm not really knowledgeable on as I am plus sized and they, like all stores relegate plus size to the top floor far back into a small corner. Their online section for plus size isn't too bad when it comes to special occassion, but I hate not being able to try things on. Otherwise the clothes are a little dated for my tastes. It is a pretty good place to shop for men's clothing though. Lastly this particular Dillard's has pretty good customer service. I would suggest NEVER going to the Dillard's at Carolina Place Mall. They for some reason just seem to really hate life, their jobs, and their customers (at least in the shoe department). Their beauty department doesn't seem as good either and the employees seems less enthusiastic there. This store rules for 2 reasons: 1. The end of the month sale where you can score some great deals! 2. Amazing customer service! Example below: My future sister in law and i went shopping with my mother in law (MIL) to find a dress for their upcoming wedding. My MIL can be a little difficult, to put it nicely. They were both visiting from out of town and MIL wanted to show us a dress she found at her local Dillard's so off we went. When we entered the dress area we were greeted by Monica. My MIL is not a small woman so we ended up needing to shop in the Woman's section. Monica offered to show us where the dress was after MIL described it to her. She then continued to assist us and went and pulled several other options for the MIL to try on. Monica helped her in and out if the dresses and offered opinions about what worked and didn't (since she didn't really want to trust is!) and even went and found her spanx to try on with her dress and explained them to her since it wasn't something she had ever used before. After several dresses we found 2 great options. We talked out the pros and cons of them and decided on the perfect dress. Monica then assisted us in getting her the proper undergarments to go with it and checked us out. All around it was a much better experience then I ever imagined it could be and it was all due to the customer service. The next time I need a dress for any type of event I'll be shopping here and hoping Monica is around to help! read more

My wife bought couple shoes about 6 months ago and wear one of them 3-4 time since then. The leather part of the shoe was all peeled off and faded in matter of couple months. I came in here during the height of the Great Recession and was the only customer in the store. Maybe that accounts for the exception service I received. I had been entrusted with the task of buying a pair of strappy gold heels and a cream-colored slip. I walked into the store unsure of what a slip even was. So I started with the shoes. I am a man. See attached pictures for proof. I know nothing about womens shoes, and merely presented the demands as they had been presented to me: gold, straps, 2" heels, size x. I think the folks working the shoe department got a good laugh out of that. They brought out a bewildering array of shoes matching those specifications, and when I gave them more information (described type of event, the matching dress, etc) they helped me whittle it down to a reasonable number. I selected a pair, and walked upstairs to lingerie. I said before that I didn't know what a slip was. That's not entirely true. I sort of knew, but presenting to the lingerie department I quickly realized that my meager understanding was not going to be adequate. They come in more shapes, sizes, and colors than anyone could need. Again, I sheepishly sought the council of the floor-staff, and again they walked me through the process. I knew not to get a slip too long for the dress, but given the material they encouraged me not to get one too short either. Who'd have thought of that? Later that night the shoes and slip were well received. I'll be happy if I never have to buy clothes for a woman again, but if I do it will be at Dillard's. read more

Don't get me wrong, I love Dillards I have been shop here for 20 years but the sale people at shoe department are the worst. All they care is how much commissions they're going to make from you , they hate and have a nasty attitude when you return something but willing go extra miles when you bought shoes from them ! I have never seen a sale person would go down so low and treat customers like that and I know for the fact that I am not the only ones to feel that way , they are such a nasty bunch especially the 2 men and an old woman they been working there a long time .. OK I love Dillard's! I confess. I know I shouldn't, but damnit, I DO! Why? They're so damned expensive....I know I know I know....but I just love the quality of their products, the convenience of their Southpark location, and just that Je Ne Sais Quoi! I don't know HOW else to say it. I've bought men's shirts from the Southpark Dillards that are my "go to" shirts for all occasions. And yes they were pricey! However, the quality is top notch. Key is to wait for the sales, and get on their mailing list to get emails or USPS mailings to go when they offer the sales! I also find the support staff really good at this store! They are very friendly and knowledgable, which really makes a difference when you've made your mind up that you are about to spend a $hitload of $$$$ but want to do so "responsibly?" Overall this really is a good store, and I love the fashion and quality that they provide! Just wait for their sales and you and your wallet will be A-OK! read more

I normally love Dillards. This review is written solely out of irritation that last Saturday I was standing outside for 15 minutes after opening because someone forgot to open the doors. This is my favorite new department store. You would think that I planned my vacation around the two day sale they were having. These were slash and burn prices. They were 50% off of the clearance prices. So we got $800 worth of clothes for just under a $100 bucks. I thought that I would need to buy a new luggage to fit everything in. They only problem that I had was with the sales associate. He actually asked if I wanted him to fold the clothes first? He wanted to just shove them in the bag in a big ball! Dillard's is Dillard's, not fancy-shmancy, but not low-quality either. I usually try to visit about once a quarter to see what's on clearance. They have a nice shoe department & the sales people there are usually friendly even when they are swamped. The prices are usually fair for most everything unless you're just aching to pay more. read more

I like Dillard's. They seemed to have clothing that ranged from the somewhat budget-minded (around 20 buck for a skirt) to the somewhat splurge minded (over 50 bucks for a skirt). I stayed in the middle, around 30 bucks for a very pretty embroidered skirt. They do not seem to cater to the high end, go to Needless Markup for that, nor do they cater to the completely function-over-form budget crazy market. I guess I would put them somewhere between Macy's on the high end and JC Penney on the low end. read more

I have shopped in Dillard's in other towns for years and have never had a complaint or an unpleasant experience. However, tonight was my first! I was looking for a pair of rain boots and the "gentleman" (and I use the word loosely) who helped me was rude and sarcastic. After I tried them on and decided against them, he told me that I must not have needed them or I would have bought them. Said that I must have just wanted to try them on. He had already said a couple of sarcastic things, but when he said he would just have to take them back to the second floor, I just about lost it. A young African American man was helping my friend and he knew I was upset. I wanted to try another shoe, but he seemed afraid to bring them to me because of the middle-aged caucasian man who had helped me. He said he could just bring the box to me, but not actually help me. Unfortunately, Dillards has maintained a sad institution that should be an outdated stereotype. Saturday, my mother and I were in the South Park store, to look for a mother of the groom dress for my brothers pending wedding. We went to the Women's department, and though we were the only customers in the area, the Sales Asst, never spoke nor engaged us. Within a few minutes another assistant came along and they enjoyed a conversation that lasted nearly 10 minutes. Yes, having been on this side of this sad instiution so many times before, I am watching and waiting, as mom is looking. Seventeen minutes, another customer comes into the area, the sales assistants conversation breaks up, and the one who obviously works this section, who did not approach us, went immediately to her, smilingly asking how could she helped. I pull mom, and there decided to leave the $300 worth of merchandise we were going to purchase. As I was leaving, assistant looked and said 'bye!'. Yes, we are African American, and new customers and sales assistants were Caucasian. I am a 47 year old professional, who will NEVER spend a penny in Dillards and would encourage them to retrain their staff, and to make them more aware of cultural compentencies that would reflect a profiling image. Yes, I'll do it as I am a Diversity Strategist, and Cultural Competency Expert who has worked with many corporations and sales forces. It's sad, that Dillards has not invoked a deeper sense of respectability into their CSR's. read more
