Not great, not bad. Dillards North Star always has something on sale. During this visit Liz was on the hunt for slacks. She also found some pants and a shirt for me. We came during the week. So, no Xmas, New Year's, or anything rush. It wasn't dead, but was comfortably quiet, I could walk around without tripping over people or merchandise. Contemporary music was on and jammin the good times. Everybody was nice, and greeted me. The place was clean and in order. Exits to parking and to other parts of North Star were available in various parts of the store. Good vibes here today.

Not to be confused with Dullards, which are most humans, really. Northstar is an insanely busy mall in San Antonio where almost everyone seems to go. La Cantera is much more relaxing and spacious but North Star is the Dillard destination, because this is where the big Dillard's is, and it's basically an enormous department store that is sort of like Macy's and JC Penney's, but a little bit less well-known and a little bit cheaper for some things but generally very comparable, and that is a long sentence amirite.

I can't tell if Dillards at Northstar Mall doesn't like Mexicans or doesn't like husbands. Today just about an hour before closing time I completed purchasing some shirts in the men's department in the first floor. I then went to the 2nd floor and looked around the entire 2nd floor for my wife (she forgot her cell phone at home by accident) with no luck. Then I went to the 3rd floor to look for her - again with no luck. So I went back down to the 2nd floor to the women's department by the 3-story parking garage and asked the cashier to page my wife, where she said she did not know how to do that so she walked me to the cashier in the middle of the store. She asked the older cashier if she could page my wife, the 2nd cashier said that I needed to go to the 4th floor to customer service to make this request. Then I went to the jewelry department to look for the older ladies who I thought might care for their customers. Here the jewelry lady did call the 4th floor and spoke to customer service for me and did request a page for my wife. About 5 minutes later I asked the same jewelry lady to request a page again because they never announced the page on the loudspeaker. The jewelry lady did call customer service the 2nd time and still nothing. So she walked me to the much older lady who was the department manager. She spoke to me in Spanish and I waited until she finished and I replied that I don't speak Spanish and to repeat what she said to me, which she did. She said to go talk to the James Avery Jewelry department because they were the boss of the store. So I did walk to the James Avery department where I requested a page for my wife -so she did call customer service and did ask for a page then they told her that the store does not do this - which she relayed to me. Then I walked downstairs to the 1st-floor men's department to Adam - the man that I originally paid for my clothes. Again I requested a page for the 6th time, the 6th time!! He did call customer service and they told him that I needed to walk to the 4th-floor customer service to request a page. I said that I did not want to walk to the 4th floor to do this because I was already so tired because I was already walking around for about 30 minutes. That's when the older lady cashier stepped in, I asked her for the name of the store manager, and her answer was that the store manager had already left for the day. I then repeated myself again by asking the same question - what was the manager's name? She reluctantly but finally gave me the manager's name. Then I said that the store would have done the page if I was a small child or if I was a white person. She then understood that I was serious. She then seemed to care and she walked to the men's Polo department where a manager named Beatrice did come to me in the men's department. She did listen to my request and asked my wife's name I said, Susan. I said to say on the announcement, Susan your husband is lost so please come to the men's department. She said there might be more than one Susan in the store and I said that if there was then they would know they are not missing their husband. Beatrice asked for my wife's last name but I didn't want to give it to her because I knew my wife would be embarrassed by this. But Beatrice would not do the page unless I did give her last name - so I finally did. The manager easily did pick up the phone and made the page. And about 2 minutes later my wife did come down and find me. I will never step foot in this Dillards again because I was treated like an alien. The employees at Dillard's at Northstar Mall need Racial Sensitivity Training - Workplace Sensitivity Training.

Here is the receipt.

Sombrero hats, shoes, Mexican dresses, toys, the list goes on. Be careful about the stairs; they are rather steep. I love how the signs tell you to keep your children with you. There is also another sign telling you that you cannot try on the shoes. I asked the salesgirl about it, and she said that they had lots of people coming in to try on the shoes, but not buying any. And then people who actually bought the shoes would come back saying that the shoes smelled like feet from all the people who had tried on the pair of shoes previously. True story, swear to God. I guess tourists have stinky feet! I was looking for a souvenir for myself. Warned about the shoes, I actually was looking to get either a Mexican blouse or dress as I had seen several gorgeous ones during my stay in San Antonio. The salesgirl was great in helping me pick out one, and even better yet, offered a discount if I paid in cash. Done. Best yet, after visiting Market Square, I noted that this store's clothes prices were indeed less expensive than the stores on Market Square. Same merchandise, different prices. I don't know how the other merchandise stacked up, but it does pay to shop around.

*EXPERIENCE DURING CORONAVIRUS*…read more Going to the grocery store has quickly turned into my least favorite thing to do since the stay at home order by the city. That is why this Target location has been my go-to when we are in need of a couple of grocery items. Compared to other stores, Target has wide hallways where you can actually keep your distance from other customers. This location is never too busy, so you can get in and out pretty easy. The staff has always been super helpful and they clorox wipe all the shopping carts ahead of time. Toilet paper is something you will definitely not find at this Target location, but their produce area is really well stocked. Thank you to all the staff for always being so kind and working during these tough times. We appreciate you!

Went there to purchase a mini refrigerator. This complaint…read moreis not about the mini refrigerator--it is a great product. My concern is about the customer service I received. When I arrived at the refrigerator display, I needed assistance moving the unit to the front of the store. I am 74 years old and was not willing to risk injuring myself by moving it alone. I saw an employee walking nearby and said, "Excuse me." He turned and looked directly at me, and I raised my hand to get his attention. Despite clearly seeing me, he continued walking without acknowledging me or asking whether I needed assistance. I asked my wife whether she had seen what happened because I could not believe that he had completely ignored me. What should have been an enjoyable purchase became a frustrating and upsetting experience. I then approached another employee named Daniella and asked for help taking the refrigerator to the front and loading it into my vehicle. She was very kind, attentive and eager to help. When I described the employee who had ignored me, she identified him as Gilbert from the electronics department. At my request, a manager named Chris came to speak with me. I explained what had happened and told him that Gilbert's behavior was discourteous and completely uncalled for. I eventually purchased the refrigerator and received the assistance I needed, but none of that assistance came from Gilbert. I remained upset on the drive home because of how I had been treated at Target that evening. Please counsel Gilbert about the importance of acknowledging customers and treating them with basic courtesy and respect. Employees should understand that older customers may genuinely need assistance with heavy merchandise. If this behavior continues after management has been made aware of it, then management must also accept responsibility for allowing it.

The Shops at La Cantera in San Antonio is one of the best shopping centers in the area, and there…read moreis a ton of great shopping to do here, from high fashion to more affordable options. There is also a great Lego store, Barnes and Noble, and plenty of good food choices. The worst part of La Cantera is that half of the people who go here seem like they are on their first week on Earth and do not know what they are doing. I love people who walk four in a row and block entire walkways, or people who stop randomly in the middle of the path to look at something. You make my life so miserable. Parking is also pretty insane if you are trying to park up close, but if you have patience, anything is possible. Be careful of the reckless drivers who have no courtesy for anything but themselves. The layout of the mall is pretty nice. Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom Rack have some higher price tag shops surrounding them, while Dillard's and Macy's have more affordable stores nearby. Across the street from the main hub is additional shopping with Zara, J.Crew, J.Jill, Free People, H&M, and most of the dining options, including Perry's, Grimaldi's, Yard House, Palenque Grill, Cheesecake Factory, and more. When the weather is nice and it is not scorching hot, The Shops are a great place to visit in San Antonio. Even when it is hot, there is plenty of shade and air conditioning to help make it less miserable. RIYL: Shopping around some of the most unaware people to ever exist.

We can wander through just about every store, critique the latest styles, admire great finds, laugh at questionable fashion choices, and somehow entertain ourselves for hours. This adventure took us to the Shops at La Cantera, one of his favorite shopping destinations. Unlike a traditional enclosed mall, La Cantera is an open-air shopping center where you're strolling from store to store in the Texas sunshine. Considering we've had what feels like a month of nonstop rain, I was thrilled that Mother Nature finally gave us a bright, sunny day. While the rain has been good for the lawn and plants, I am definitely ready for it to stop. We started near Nordstrom and leisurely made our way toward Zara, popping in and out of stores along the way. One of my favorite parts of shopping is discovering what's new. I was pleasantly surprised to see several stores that had opened since my last visit. Exploring those new spaces made the trip even more enjoyable. You can find a variety of price points at this mall, making it appealing to a broad range of folks. By the end of the day, my brother scored a few stylish pieces from Zara Men, while I somehow managed to leave empty-handed. Surprisingly, I didn't mind one bit. The best purchase of the day wasn't something that fit in a shopping bag...it was quality time spent catching up, sharing plenty of laughs, and enjoying a leisurely afternoon of shop surfing with my favorite shopping buddy...my big brother.

I'm very displeased with Dillard's and the company they partner with called What Goes Around Comes…read moreAround, which supposedly sells vintage purses. Do not buy from them because they do not accept any returns. The disclaimer is in small print, barely visible in the corner of the display. There are signs stating they do not accept returns; however, men who are buying gifts for their wives do not always see this. It was not noted at the time of purchase that the purse was refurbished, and let me tell you--it was poorly refurbished. I would advise never buying from here. If you're going to buy, purchase from Poshmark online or somewhere else where you can actually return your items. I would give Dillard's less than one star for very poor customer service. The manager on site that day was confrontational, gave me the runaround, and could not clearly tell me who to contact above her. It was just a bad experience overall. Terrible--do not buy from Dillard's.
