I had an appointment on a Saturday morning with Jordan. First, we had a consultation where he looked at my hair and we spoke for five minutes about what I was looking for with my color. I wanted really subtle, natural looking highlights to lighten up my natural color. Jordan understood completely and suggested hand-painted highlights, rather than my originally scheduled balayage. The highlights were truly hand-painted and all over my head, rather than just the top. After sitting under heat for a bit, Jordan washed out the color, applied a toner, and even threw in a free hair mask. The results were PERFECT. Exactly what I was looking for, and I just LOVE my hair. It's exactly what we discussed and I think it will grow out beautifully. Jordan was overall a lovely person and made me feel gorgeous. I have been going to Dimitri for years, starting off at the Bayside location and followed him to his Astoria location. I have never been dissatisfied with color or cut. Most recently I have gone for a bleach wash treatment (as my hair was extremely grown out from the previous color) and toner for color correction (done by Despina) and cut/style (by Dimitri). The toner has lasted well over 8 weeks without fading/recurrent reddish tones and none of the long layers were choppy. My mom is also a very satisfied customer; she's colored, cut and styled, and Despina and Dimitri were able to dye her natural hair to match her hair extensions perfectly, as well as trimming them to blend in seamlessly with her natural hair and hairline. The salon is spacious, exceptionally clean, the prices are great for the quality of service and the receptionist Sophia is always friendly and as accommodating as possible even on short notice. They also offer coffee and snacks while you're getting your treatments done which is a nice touch as sometimes we are in there for hours at a time. read more

So very happy with my visit to Dimitri's salon. I came here because I followed my long-time hairstylist Sylvia. This review is mostly about her. She is AMAZING! I cannot say enough good things about her. She is kind, a really good listener and most importantly (for this review) a superstar at her job. Years ago she repaired and made my hair look like I had stepped out of a magazine after someone else had damaged it and I have been with her ever since. I have always left her chair with a smile on my face, my expectations always exceeded. I have now moved out of Astoria to Garrison (Putnum County) and still make the trip to do my hair with her. Another big plus for me is that my hair color will look great even after months if I am busy and can't get there. The way she blends the colors (maybe magic) makes them look like they have just melted into my natural color when it starts peeking through. I so very highly recommend her! Now the salon itself was really nice. Very clean with a loft/industrial kind of vibe. The other staff was very nice with a great energy as well. They also have really a cool and comfy hair washing station. Very unusual design but it was literally the first time my neck didn't hurt after my hair was washed in a salon EVER. My elderly mom has been going to Dimitris for about a year now and she really loves her stylist, which is why I am being generous with the 2 stars. The last time (prior to today) she went was this past February and she was charged $35 for a haircut, just wash and cut - no style or dry. Today she went for the same service with the same stylist, just a very simple trim and she was charged $40 ... Are you kidding me? This is a pandemic and you are over charging a senior citizen on a fixed income? You are out of your mind! This is not only upsetting but also very sad, and she will not support your business any more as long as I can help it. $5 might not be a lot of money for some people but for her it is. I stumbled across Dimitris walking down the block while exploring the neighborhood. I recently moved to Astoria and finding a local salon was going to be necessary. My go-to salon is in the city and in the UES which is inconvenient from work and home. After reading their rave reviews on yelp, google, and Facebook. I was sold. I made an appointment on Sunday and was seen yesterday after work. It had been since the end of February that my hair was touched. Immediately when I arrived, they took proper precautions and checked my temperature. I was introduced to Niko, he was very personable and we had great conversations and not mention he's a fellow Leo. He offered suggestions to lessen the brassy color of my hair and my root touch-up. He understood I was looking for natural with a sun kissed look and I wanted my hair to have more of a caramel- honey tone. The salon was very clean and the stations were set up for social distancing even at their washing stations. Only the person with the appointment was allowed in the salon. The girl that washed my hair was very friendly and gave the most stellar scalp and temple massage. I could've fallen asleep in the chair. I didn't want to forget to mention that they also play stellar music. After about 2.5 hours I walked out of there feeling refreshed and beautiful. The waves he gave me is something I wish I can achieve daily doing my own hair. For the toner, root / single process and blowout and style was $150 before tip. Because I have long semi-thick hair keratin was quoted at $220. I intend on my making my future appointments there. read more

I got a haircut and it turned out great. I have curly hair and I was a bit weary, they didn't style it and blew try it semi straight to finish the cut. Once I got home and rewashed my hair to dry it curly I loved it! Wasn't a fan of how they don't style it so you can see your natural state but I think that stems from not being a salon for curly hair specifically. I have been going to this local salon for quite sometime now. Usually the experience is good and the stylists know what they're doing. However last Saturday, I was assigned a stylist I had never seen before and it was clear that he was new. I had a very unpleasant experience where he understood zero English, didn't give me a dry haircut at the end(which everyone always does even when I say I don't need a blowout) and also didn't even ask about face framing. On top of this, some of the more experienced ones(might be the owner?!?) actually supported the amateur one and said that "oh for dry haircut, you have to blowout your hair completely and pay extra". I used to live in the city and used to city standards and even in the city they don't force you to pay for blowout when you don't need it and the stylist always does that out of their courtesy for their client and try their best to perfect the haircut till the end with a dry haircut to fix any loose ends and blow dry the front part as a complimentary because THIS IS ALSO PART OF THE HAIRCUT! I had to go to another salon to fix the bad haircut. This was my first time here and I loved it! I first contacted them thru Yelp after they closed and they called me right away. I explained what I was looking for. The staff was really friendly, they worked with my schedule and Vaso really took her time in talking with me. We discussed the idea of what I wanted and she gave me suggestions on what was best for my hair type and shape of my face. She was patient with me while I decided what I wanted to do. In the end I took her advice and I am happy to say I loved it! I now have a plan with Vaso moving forward on what I need to do with my hair and what we will do in the future. Review after about a month of getting service- haircut. Okay... firstly I walked in and got a haircut. I did not like the end result. haircut wasn't even complete, meaning uneven length, asked for long layers at the back (thinning hair due to post parting so really wanted to stay away from short layers) , so anyway hair looked like a box at the bottom like if the long layer doesn't blend in to the ends. When I was shown at the end with mirror, I could see the very obvious mess up and pointed it out. But overall, did not panic because it's fixable, right? I consulted the owner and said this is the problem please take a look at this , what can be done etc. so he said there is another stylist here who can work on my hair and fix whatever needed. I was so happy and relieved. I told her please eyeball it and do whatever necessary to make it look nice. Looked like she knew what she was doing but out of nowhere gave me some some short choppy layers, that are more dense on one side of my head than the other. I am leaving a picture here to show what I'm talking about. It's so choppy like when I touch that part of my head I can literally feel there is less hair there. I don't know how to style my hair anymore. I want to hide it. I have given up now and just put it in a bun or ponytail. Feeling miserable. End of story. read more

I am person of simplicity. I rarely cut my hair. I don't put any products and I am not a fan of going to salons just for a haircut. The place is very clean and modern. The receptionist is nice. I came to the place to cut my hair. I told the receptionist I only wanted a cut. The cost of it was $40 a bit much (Perhaps it's just me, I am college student). This place had good reviews so I ended up trying it out. I ended up paying $62 because of the blow out that I did not plan on getting. I wish my hair stylist would have advised me about the price before proceeding. My stylist just asked me if i wanted my hair a bit wavy and thought that it would not be charged. No matter what, hair stylists should advise their clients about what is about to be charged. Especially me being a newbie. *shocking* The lady who cut my hair almost poked my eye out with her metal item ... a scissor? The lady was nice, but her methods with handling my hair were not. I was so pleased with my experience at this salon! After a terrible experience the last time I had my hair cut at another salon, I looked for a place with strong reviews and Dimitris fit the bill. I needed a make-over for my overprocessed, damaged, uneven colored hair. I hadn't seen a hair stylist in 6 months. I made an appointment for a balayage and I had a clear idea of what I wanted my hair too look like but I thought it was unachievable seen my dire starting point. This was my first time at this salon so I didn't ask for a speccific stylist, and upon check-in I was assigned to Adam. That was my blessing. He asked me a lot of questions on my hair history and my expectations from the process and was very honest in telling me he couldn't promise me the exact result of the pictures I showed him. He told me my hair being very damaged and double processed , we would have to take our chances and take it slow to see if we could possibly get close to my hair goal. He made sure to check my hair several times throughout the processing to make sure it was turning out well and not damaging my hair further. The end result blew away both him and myself, it was exactly what I was hoping for in the first place. My hair is so perfect now, gorgeous color, perfect cut and it's so shiny and healthy thanks to the Olaplex treatment he recommended. Adam is an absolute gem and you have to come see him by any means if you need a real hair styling pro. Some other salon would have charged me way more for a color correction so I was even surprised to find out how honest the price was for my medium-long hair for balayage+Olaplex+toner+haircut+blowout , it was just 320$. Absolutely worth it considering the results and the quality of service and products used. I was recommended by some friends to come here for a haircut and blow out. Overall, I had a pretty good experience, but some bumps along the way. I have relatively long hair and the cut/blow out was $62, which in NYC is rarely heard of, so that was a pleasant surprise. The woman washing my hair was AMAZING. She really took the time to wash it well and also threw in a quick scalp massage which was heavenllllllllyyyyyy. For the haircut, I have to say I was happy with the cut, but not so happy with the gentleman cutting my hair. He didn't even try to start conversation once and only told me about the negatives about my hair (which I am already aware about, that's why I'm coming to get it cut!) Run to get your hair cut here. I don't think anyone is a fan of looking for new salons. I've been to quite a few of the highly rated establishments in Astoria. I left all of them feeling okay, but I never felt comfortable with the entire experience. I had a pretty simple haircut from Maria in June. I was taking my waist-length hair to my shoulders, and she made me feel extremely comfortable. I have fine, straight hair, so she went with a cut that made it look full and suited my face. Last week, I wanted something a bit more dramatic. Maria wasn't available, so the receptionist set me up with Angelique. She listened to what I wanted and made sure that what we went with flattered my face shape. I was a little hesitant about going short and the awkward grow-out if I didn't like it, so she made sure not to layer it up too much. This morning, I decided I wanted to take a little off the back to make it a more streamlined bob and get rid of some of the bulk in the back (no fault of hers, as she did exactly what I wanted). I called to make an appointment, was able to drop by this afternoon and she modified the cut. To my surprise, she only charged me for the blowout. This place is classy and inclusive.
