While we were eating 45 minutes before closing they shut off half the lights, was extremely awkward. The food was ok, their tzatziki sauce was not fresh, and didn't taste home made. Their potatoes were not freshly cooked. Their moussaka was not traditional and very dry. We asked for extra sauce. Did not receive it. No refills on drinks. Waitress was lifeless and bland. I'm a regular here and I go for the chick souvlaki or chick pita- both always delicious. I strayed from my usual last Fri nite with a takeout of their BBQ chicken. It was virtually uneatable, just a big chunk of boiled (it seemed boiled to me) chicken on a Caesars salad made with limp, discolored old Romaine lettuce. They messed up my order so I got an extra piece of chicken for free(their intentions were good). Its still in my fridge and may end up in the garbage.This dish has no business on a restaurant menu! Dimitri's was one if the first non-pub food-based restaurants in Fredericton, and continues to be a bastion of flavour in this deep-fried, heavily seasoned City. The hummous, super-veggie pita, cold pikilia platter and super-trio platter are all top items. Lamb is also a good bet here, as the owner/chef ensures fresh meat is used. The staff and owner are friendly, and the waitresses are attentive while giving you space. Great place to bring your family, the staff/owners don't mind small children, and the summer patio gives a birds-eye view of the tannery. The humus is oh so garlicky & yummy with the warm grilled pita breads. If you eat chicken you can't go wrong with the chicken souvlaki dinner plate. The restaurant itself is a hole in the wall kind of place. Not very eady to find unless you know where to look. That doesn't deter patrons from coming for the delicious food and great customer service. I really like Dimitri's, it is clean, friendly, fast, and the food is delicious... although I always get the chicken pita lunch special (it's $10 and comes with Greek potatoes and Greek salad), so I can't speak to any food besides the chicken pita. Dimitri's has a fun family like atmosphere. The service was friendly and prompt. Food was everything you would expect from a Greek restaurant. This was my second visit and tried Donair on pita as well as the meat trio platter. The cold plate appetizer had a little bit of everything. Couldn't wait to dig in to my left overs the next day. OK, I feel guilty for the three stars... there are some GREAT things about this place - it started as a 5 star...here we go: 1. Hard to find - address given as King St - it is really in an alley behind Queen St, took forever to find it. 2. Casual diner-feel decor (this is a plus to me) very comfy, homey feel. 3. Friendly, quick service 4. Large portions and good authentic Greek options on the menu. 5. Biggest problem - we both had the Vege Moussaka... we make Moussaka at home (the Moosewood recipe) so know how it is done when done well... this was NOT done well - cold reheated portion, stodgy old bechamel, and too much potato in the layers - not enough real veges. I will go back, because the positives outweigh the negatives for me, but as a vegetarian dinner, this one was NOT good. Greek people eat there- that should tell you something. NOthing is ever as good as what you make at home ; the " it is not as good as what Mom used to make".. sort of thing. Good service, good food, good feel to authenticity ( Fredericton isn't in Greece so this is as good as it can get without going overboard ), good people. Both of us I will have the pork or chicken souvlaki, beer and dessert. We are out of there for under 30 bucks total. I have only been to Dimitri's a handful of times, and each time I go I order the chicken Souvlaki plate with rice and pita bread. I have never been disappointed with the meal. The food is consistently excellent! My favourite item is the super veggie pita... It has fries on it and every bite is heavenly. Their tzatziki is the best. You will reek of garlic for a day, but it will totally be worth it. Don't go there for the environment- it's decorated strangely and is quite dated, but the food makes it worth it. We usually get this as take out and enjoy from the comfort of home with red wine. I don't know anyone in town who doesn't love Dimitri's! read more

Food is always solid, but I found the restaurant cold and drab the other night. Aside from the temperature, I find the lighting atrocious. I would suggest something other than pot lights. The place just needs a little face lift to give it more of a "night out" feel. Maybe table cloths instead of paper place mats. Also, I was dining with one other person and my food came out a good three or four minutes before hers.... a refresher on proper serving techniques would give Dimitri's a little extra kick! read more

Dimitri's used to be one of my favorite restaurants but when I found a dead fly in my food, the waitress said "Eww," took the fly and the piece of lettuce it was sitting on away, and did not come back.
