The restaurant is bright and cheerful, with steel drum music playing, and everyone, including the cooks in the open kitchen, is extremely friendly. We were immediately greeted by a server who let us take a look at the menu, gave us parking advice (paid street parking, not in the lot of the attached building) and seated me while the boyfriend moved the car. The menu is sort of hilarious, with lots of recommendations including an endorsement of the chicken wings by Snoop Dogg. We were looking for a light lunch after a late breakfast, so we opted to try the wings (though I went for the crusted curry at the recommendation of the server and not Snoop's recommendation of the jerk) and the wrap of the day, which was a sweet-and-spicy beef. We also tried Mama's Caribbean Fruit Tea ($3.45), which is a sweet, tropical drink that went especially well with my wings. It's not a huge glass but it's sweet enough that I wouldn't want to guzzle it. Spiciness level is to order, and after checking to make sure I knew what I was getting into, I ordered the wings hot. While we waited for our food, our server, who seems to be the husband and father to the cooks working busily in the kitchen, asked us about our trip (we were returning from PEI) and made sure we'd seen the best stuff in New Brunswick. He tells us they plan to attend the PEI seafood festival to add more seafood options to their menu, which would be nice as Fredericton has a dearth of options there. Our food came and the portions were smaller than I'd expected but perfect for lunch - three big, meaty wings for a lunch portion with a small salad ($7.99). If I'd been hungrier I would have added an appetizer and a basket of the house made coconut bread, which sounded intriguing. The wings were really different - dusted with curry powder and maybe some other toppings and then baked until crispy and drizzled with a really good and properly hot sauce (I was offered more if I needed it, and I could have ramped it up to impress them, but I thought the spice level was perfect for the flavour of the wings). The wrap was tasty and different, sweet with a nice kick at medium spice with the tortilla crisped and drizzled with sauce ($9.75). The wings were so good that it would be great to have a dinner size available, and I'd love to see what they come up with if they're able to get a good seafood supplier. There were lots of interesting looking options on the menu as it stands, though, and another visit would be a no-brainer on a future visit to Fredericton. read more

I LOVE CARIBBEAN FLAVAS! The food here is absolutely to die for, the ambiance is a perfect mix of cool and colouful, and the staff is positively delightful! I came here on a date-night with my S.O. after both having had a tough day at work and we were immediately greeted and seated by "Papa", who put a smile on our grumpy little faces. I find most of the ethnic restaurant offerings in Fredericton to be a tamed down version of what they can be. However, I do not say this about Caribbean Flavas. With most of their menu options, they'll ask how spicy you want it, on a five point scale. I'd suggest only going 3 or higher if you know what you are doing, because when they say they'll make a curry spicy, they aren't lying. In addition to being spicy, the curries are fresh and flavourful made with a thick sauce, meat, veggies, chickpeas and potatoes. My favourite dish is the curry wrap, which is less of wrap and more of a curry stew served inside a huge piece of wrapped, buttery naan. On the beverage front, the restaurant serves up a refreshing homemade iced tea and french pressed Blue Mountain Jamaican coffee. Service is incredibly friendly, with the owner acting as host and server to the small restaurant. read more

We were in Fredricton, NB for just one night and based on online reviews we decided to try this place. Absolutely the best ribs I've ever had, fall-off the bone tender, with a nice sweet and spiced flavor and just enough heat to give that Caribbean flair, accompanied by delicious coconut garlic mashed potatoes. For 10 years my husband and I have been spending the night in Fredericton, on our way to Cape Breton Island, and, until this year, we have been eating mediocre food. This place was awesome! The staff were friendly and helpful. I went here with my girlfriend and we ordered the coconut bread and mama's surprise entrée. The only reason I gave this place 4 instead of 5 stars was that the bread was slightly stale despite being heated up. The onion rings and the lamb curry were amazing though! It should be noted that there is no alcohol served here, but mama's iced tea is pretty good. Definitely some of the friendliest staff I've encountered in a while, great family business. read more

Food: excellent fusion. Our host: delightfully talkative and interesting. We started with vegetable samosas which were baked and accompanied by a tangy sauce on the side. My entree was a delicious spicy Jamaican jerked chicken with vegetables and basmati rice. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her curried tofu. I also had Lassi, a delicious, slightly sweet drink that went well with the meal. The ambience was very pleasant. We were seated by the fountain and waterfall, with music playing that appropriately fit the restaurant's Caribbean Islands theme. It tasted stale, I suspect it was just reheated, so that was a bit disappointing. For the main meal, I had the flavas chicken curry which was delicious, I especially liked the naan. This is an amazing, authentic restaurant, that is run by a very wholesome family. The staff were friendly and funny, while the food was full of flavour. In fact, we enjoyed the dine-in experience so much, we hired Caribbean Flava's to cater one of my family's events, and it was a big hit. Have been once for a full lunch and once for dinner. Both experiences simply top notch. When in the dinning room, you feel less like a customer in a resaurant, more like a guest in a friends home. On our recent dinner foray, I had the Apple Lamb Curry. Ordered with Medium spice, it could not have been a better meal. The spices nicely offset the flavors in the foods. My partner Suzanne & I stopped into Fredericton on a road trip today, explicitly to try this restaurant... we weren't disappointed! The food was fabulous and the service was amazing -- we felt like we were treated as family. I had an incredible jerk chicken dinner, and Suzanne had a tasty spicy jerk tofu -- both dishes were fabulous. This is the best Caribbean restaurant we've visited in Atlantic Canada, and was on par with the best Caribbean places we've eaten in Torontp, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and other cities. We stopped for supper while traveling through the area and were excited to find a Caribbean restaurant with vegetarian options. The jerk and the curry were both great with tofu. We also enjoy coconut bread and lassis. Our server was very attentive and friendly. I ordered my meal at the "tingle" spice level and it was quite spicy (I'm usually in the 7/10 spice range), so the lassi was a nice complement. We were spending a couple of weeks in New Brunswick and were looking for a flavorful change from the usual restaurant offerings. Flava's offers well prepared food with wonderful spices and seasonings. I had the Atlantic salmon prepared with jerk seasoning and a bit of tingle which I loved because we are from Southern California and like a bit of heat in our food. The decor is bright and cheerful. We 5 friends went here for Friday dinner. We choose this place because they also serve "Halal" meat and my one of the friend eats "Halal" meat. I am vegetarian and one of the friend eats Gluten free meal. We friends have very precise food restrictions. But they had several options for all of us. Owner/Server was very friendly and helpful. He explained all the ingredients in specific dish and were comfortable for replacing any ingredients we wanted. Food was very good. I eat spicy food and they have good spice level for me. Refreshing dining experience each time there. The food is excellent with a choice of spice level you ask for. Jerk chicken was moist with the spice level right on what I requested. The vegetables were so good. My wife enjoyed the local grass feed lamb. I've been here a handful of times but haven't been in a year or more. Pros: Service at every visit was top notch. The food was delicious and the plates dressed very nicely. Cons: Small portions, big price. They also do not serve any alcohol so forget about enjoying a nice bottle of wine or beer with your meal. I was in Fredericton with a colleague the day of a black out in the Fall and the end of lunch service. Chef Naz and his father waited on us and couldn't have been more hospitable. We shared the Samosas and Tobago shrimp as appetizers and they got us off on the right foot, perfectly cooked and spiced. I went on to have the Pineapple Chicken for a main. Great taste, crisp vegtables and Naz's father guided me to a perfect level of heat and spice for my pallette.
