We have gone to the Dina Martina Christmas show at the ACT theater in downtown Seattle twice now. In 2022 and 2024. Both times it was a real treat! She is simply fabulous! It's such silly fun, with her funny takes on stories, new lyrics to known songs, and her extra special way of pronouncing certain words... It's just a wonderful time during a very stressful season. Dina and her pianist (so sorry, but I can't remember his name) are very polished at what they do, and the audience responds accordingly. Funniest show I've seen in a while, Dina is truly a performer definitely recommend seeing her in ptown!

Not sure why Dina Martina gets so much flack on her Yelp entry. Maybe it's Pacific Northwest humor clashing with New England humor or perhaps that has nothing to do with it and people keep seeing a drag performer in which the delivery goes in a direction they don't care for. When I say a clashing of humor of the Northwest with the Northeast I'm saying this because Dina is actually from Seattle but does lots of shows in Provincetown, Massachusetts. It is true the two shows I've seen her perform in are different than a typical drag show. Lots of drag shows push towards R rated humor but with Dina... at least the last show I saw her in could almost squeak by with a PG13. There is subtly for naughtiness but it's very much innuendo. Dina's exaggerated make up that isn't anything like a Miss America contestant also seems to have irked a fee people too which is a bit baffling and humorous because exaggerated make up has been in drag for decades. Dina has quite a few songs during her shows that I've seen. I've seen her Christmas shows and that involves mash ups of various songs into one or singing classic Christmas songs to go along with her presentation. Out of the two shows I've seen it looks like Dina is coming up in the world. Compared to the first show she is getting a larger fan base, a bigger venue and a bigger budget for her shows. If you want a safe, entry-level drag show or what you see on Drag Race, Dina Martina is not the queen for you. Don't get me wrong: I love Drag Race and I love lip-syncing bar queens. But there's so much out there that doesn't fit the stereotype, and Dina is one of the very best. She's absurdist, ridiculous, twisted, probably certifiable, and very, very smart. Her satire is some of the sharpest I've ever seen. I don't even know who to compare her to, and neither do her celebrity admirers. I've been seeing her in Ptown every summer for more than a decade. She's my favorite drag queen ever, anywhere, but she's definitely not for everyone. If you want to laugh your ass off at jokes you don't expect and maybe have your expectations of drag and comedy challenged, run don't walk. See every queen in Ptown - they're all fabulous - but if you really love drag, you have got to see Dina Martina. P.S. New convert as of 2019. I was shocked to read the reviews here! What a totally different experience people have! It's obvious that there is a reason the reviews are either five star or one star. Either you get this type of humor or you don't. Just because you don't get it doesn't mean it's bad. It just means you don't get it. This ISN'T a drag show; it would be wise not to compare it to one. It's first and foremost a comedy show that brilliantly uses satire for most of its humor. If you want a drag show, this isn't it, and it's silly to expect it to be something it isn't. Go to any bar and see a drag show if that's what you want or are expecting! They're a dime a dozen and you'll only have to invest the two drink cover and a few bucks for tips to slip under garter belts. (Yawn.) Don't get me wrong, I like drag shows, but I've seen a ton of them. This is something else. It's one of the most unusual and brilliant comedy shows I've ever seen. I laughed so hard I was crying. It hurt to breathe. I remember seeing George Carlin in the mid 90's and laughing like this. The humor relies heavily on your knowledge of what the performer is satirizing. If you don't know the reference it may not land for you. The character of Dina fundamentally satirizes drag itself and some people don't get it or can't appreciate that aspect. For those of us who DO get it, it's wickedly funny on a whole different level. I've never seen anything like it. This kind of smart humor and satire is pretty rare. It's so unusual, the show is famous for being indescribable. If you come expecting a "drag show" you will be disappointed. Expect satire that is so bizarre and out there it's almost like a really hilarious hallucination being spun up by a crazy mind. The unique factor alone makes it five-star stuff. It takes tremendous skill to write and perform at this level. What looks uncrafted or unpolished has been carefully designed and executed to appear that way as part of the satire. This extends to the dialogue, the costumes, the hair and makeup, the choreography, everything. Dina makes it look SO easy, but anyone who's ever performed comedy knows how goddamn hard it is. Well, within the first 5 minutes of the show we were all warned: there will be no themes, continuity, or cohesiveness throughout any of the "performance" that will follow. And damn, did she deliver! If you're going to shell out $30 (and a now a $33.50 fee if you pay with a credit card) you expect something a little more for live entertainment. The thing that is painfully annoying is that Dina Martina's unique brand of idiot humor can actually be entertaining if you approach it with the right mindset: just laugh at the ridiculousness of life because there's just so much craziness and BS in the world. But the thing that separates truly great entertainers and comics from the rest, the ability to read an audience, interact with them, and have some witty comebacks to heckles and playful banter is precisely what Dina Martina sorely lacks. You walk away with the feeling that you just watched a movie and not a live performance. Part of this is stems from the fact that a good 40% of the show is actually pre-recorded video. Ok, we get it. It's a one man act and you need time for costume changes. But damm girl, put some effort into it! It looks like some of these outfits came from a drunken shopping trip to Goodwill. And if these costumes actually served to advance the content of the act or built up to some witty punchline, then fine. But there was no denouement or satisfying conclusion to the f'ing mystery of why she pranced around the theater with a Madonna-esque cone shaped rat head bra covering her titties while she clanked on metal salad tongs to the beat of some song she butchered beyond belief. Why, why, why?! And let's bring up some of the unique mispronunciation issues she has with the hard and soft G's. Were these unique ways of saying things in some attempt to make her sound more European/sophisticated that would further develop her character? No. Because if they were it failed miserably and only served to confuse the audience. At one point this one woman vacationing all the way from Finland sitting next to me tapped me on the shoulder and said, "Oh I get it now, she's supposed to be a mentally challenged person!" Very clever, intentional hilarious mispronounciations, 30 rock level mix of camp and cleverness, loved it so much, saw it twice. They were different shows. The one from last year featured hilarious weird old timey commercial with Dina's bestie Doreen who was basically a hilarious puppet. We go to a show every year in Provincetown and this was one of the only times that it was a disappointment. It's just not funny and the video clips that had her face edited in were cheesy and went on too long. The bad singing went on too long. At one point she stopped to eat spaghetti and that wasn't funny either. She did a brief schtick about global warming - that was pretty good and she consistently mispronounces words which was clever. Overall, completely NOT worth the money. I hope Cashetta will be back in Provincetown next year. read more

I've seen Dina twice so far, and I'm making another trip to P'town this year- specifically to see Dina again. Dina makes me laugh so hard my eyes water, and I fear I might choke- it's all I can do to keep from falling off my chair into the aisle. If you are looking for a slick female impersonator who takes themselves seriously (a bit absurd, no?) and sings on key then please look elsewhere and don't pan this hysterical act. This was by far one of the worst drag performances I've seen to date. If watching a tone deaf performer with a fake lisp and penchant for uneducated quips is your idea for a good time then by all means pay $26. But if you want to actually be entertained then go elsewhere, at least 30-40% of the show is a video of her talking on screen about absolutely nothing, there's a jeopardy portion that's funny.... For only 30 seconds, but then goes on for ten agonizing minutes. Additionally, the waitstaff is very rude and undeserving of any praise, or tips. read more

Avoid this show at all costs. I thought this show was horrible, although people in the audience were laughing. The act is dressed up in strange outfits, and basically re-writes songs (badly and not funny) and mispronounces words much to the hilarity of the audience.
