    Grilled cheese and French fries

On a long drive up to West Virginia, we stopped here for lunch and a moment to stretch our legs. This place was a crowd-pleaser and super fun! It's a little off the beaten path, though you can see the sign from the highway if you squint. There's a decent amount of parking. This place has been around a long time (the 1950s, iirc) and you can see the ways it has grown over the years. The dining room, bathrooms, and gift shop are all sort of separate outbuildings. There's a small patio with a couple of metal chairs and tables, which is where we sat and ate; however, seems like call-in and carryout are popular options. You order at the counter in the main building and your order number will be called when your food is ready. The menu consists of dip dogs (very similar to a corn dog, made with Carolina-style "red" hot dogs and slathered in mustard unless otherwise requested), hot dogs, burgers, simple sandwiches, chicken tenders, and ice cream/milkshakes. We all wanted to save room for supper so we kept it pretty light; I had a grilled cheese and fries, parents each had a chili dog and split fries, and husband ordered two dip dogs. This is obviously a family run establishment and we enjoyed seeing all the history through the pictures and tributes to family and community members while we waited. The gentlemen taking our orders were polite and working efficiently. The ladies' restroom was hot but clean when we visited it before getting back on the road. Our food was simple and tasty! The fries were super hot and salted nicely and the grilled cheese was so buttery. My parents enjoyed their hot dogs. I tried a bite of a dip dog just to say that I had; I loved the nice light crisp of the breading (not as cakey as your average corn dog). If I got one I'd get it without mustard and dip in ketchup but that's just because I don't like mustard lol. Overall, a fun, tasty, and interesting stop on a long road trip. Give them a try if you're in the area!

We visited Dip Dog as I was traveling from Bristol, VA back to my home in North Carolina after Christmas. Our group arrived around 11:15 am and found an empty parking lot. We headed into the inside ordering area. We announced it was our first time and would need some time to review the menu. The cashier gave us a color-changing plastic cup since it was our first time. Our cool is that? Our group ordered a slaw dog (no onions), two dip dogs, a BLT, and onion rings. As we waited for our food to come out the parking lot steadily filled. It appears we beat the lunch rush. When they called our order, we settled into one of the small seating areas outside. Everything looked really good. BLT was a great size and the bread was toasted perfectly. The Slaw dog was loaded with toppings. The Dip Dogs were crispy and slathered in mustard. The Onion Rings were plentiful and coated with a tempura-like batter. Yes, they use pink/red dogs here. North Carolinians are likely super familiar but it's just likely a majority pork dog. Still tastes delicious if you ask me. I liked that the Dip Dog coating is wonton-like. Thin and crispy. All the staff was really nice. Definitely recommend visiting. I'll be back for the unique dip dog!

We came here on a recommendation from a friend en route to Asheville from NOVA. It's a quick 5 min detour off 1-81. It is an authentically vintage fast food place. They have a cute little gift shop with a few tables inside for eating. It's a good fast food restaurant that serves amazing corn dogs you can't get anywhere else. Atmosphere (2/5): Its take away only and you walk up to the service window. They call your number via an old loudspeaker system and you go pick it up. They had some outdoor tables (in the sun) and a couple tables on the porch for limited covered seating. Service (4/5): During COVID, they are limiting 3 people inside to order at once. Food (4/5): Easily the best corn dog I've had - the batter was light and fluffy and slightly sweet - like funnel cake batter. Delicious!! The onions rings seemed cooked in the same batter - we ordered one side order and it was so many we couldn't finish. They were a bit greasy and you could tell they were fresh fried (not frozen). Definitely worth the stop if you're on 1-81!

Awesome slice of Americana. Good burger joint and they did great with a order for 15 people

A quick stop at a well known, off the beaten track tradition. I got a simple order, a dip dog and a chili dog. Dip dog was like all the good things you remember about a carnival corn dog. The batter is sweet, and when deep fried is nice and crunchy. It almost tastes like pie dough; and the dog is a deep red and well cooked. Yellow mustard all over the outside and you have a dip dog! The chili, mustard and onions were excellent. Yellow mustard, same as the dip dog. Diced onions. Chili was beefy, not tomato, and added a nice taste to the dog. Great staff, polite and quick to clarify your order, and big smiles! Get off the highway at exit 39 and make your way to Dip Dog- you won't be sorry!

Great local fast food joint. One of a kind. Locals recommend the Dip Dog, onion rings and a shake. Great hospitality and customer service.

If you like this kind of food, I'd highly recommend going here. It's a destination for sure. They always have a good quality product, the food doesn't take that long to come out, employees are kind & helpful, and overall it's just a really cool spot. The dipdogs are great! I also really enjoy the ice cream as well! It's not perfect of course, but it's a rare occasion when a restaurant actually is. I do have to say it is very greasy food so be warned! This place is a staple in our area and I can't believe I waited 18 years to give it a try!

It wasn't super busy when we came in but the two young ladies behind the counter were definitely eager to get us in and out. Not the warmest or most welcoming of customer service. They do have a nice selection of flavors to choose from though and they have a coffee menu as well. Love that's it's family owned. Be prepared for no seating available indoor or outdoor but it's a nice area that's walkable with other stuff to do.

I got a cinnamon bun latte and my mom ordered a lavender coffee. Both were good. Wasn't super pricey, we got two cups that were medium sized for $12.00, not bad for a touristy area. The place was clean and decorated cute, the coffee was good and pretty affordable, but 3 stars because both staff members were not very friendly and almost seemed like we were bothering them by coming in. Again, hopefully it was just an off day, but customer service definitely goes a long way, especially for people visiting out of town. I do recommend stopping by here to try coffee, lots of variety in their menu with flavors, and all the different milk options you can think of. :)

I am an early riser so I tend to try to get out to eat just as places open. Thus, my pictures usually show empty seats. Do not let this deter you from trying this place. The decor is nostalgic and tasteful. It is spacious yet cozy. You seat yourself so I chose a booth along the front wall. My waitress was prompt and steady checking on my coffee level. The menu had plenty of options from omelets and wraps to breakfast sandwiches and full plate orders including biscuits and gravy. Sorry I forgot to take a menu picture. When my plate arrived, I wasn't sure I could eat it all. As I began to eat my senses were overwhelmed by all the flavors. It's definitely a great spot to get filled and enjoy good food. They also serve lunch. So a trip back later in the day is warranted.

GPS took me right to it…read more There is a small sign at the far end of the parking lot and a small one on the building above the door. The easiest way to find it is look for a building that looks like an auto body shop. Parking is on gravel adjacent to the building. The spaces are not marked. There is a handicapped sign to the left of the door. There are a few spaces across the street and more on the side of the building. There is a concrete sidewalk in front of the building. The gravel lot is even with the sidewalk on the right side but there is a small step up on the left. The entrance door is in the middle of the building. Walking in, there is a counter to the left where you pay. Bathrooms are straight ahead in the rear. Seating is a mix of booths and various sized tables. Seating is plentiful but well-spaced so maneuvering around is no problem. There was a sign to seat yourself so we picked a booth along the front of the building near the row of windows. Decor is auto related as would be expected. Lighting is bright without being overpowering. Our server arrived in less than a minute to bring the menus and take our drink order. She returned with the drinks in a couple minutes and took our lunch order. The drinks were in very large, maybe 32oz cups. Our server did come by near the end of the meal to ask if we wanted a refill but we still had just under half the drink left. The food took about 10 minutes to arrive. The bacon cheeseburger was very good. The burger was hot and juicy and served on a fresh and soft bun as large as the patty. The lettuce, tomato and onion were fresh, cold, and crisp. The onion rings were also very good. The batter was crisp and the onion slightly soft, an excellent combination. The Western burger was another winner. The sautéed mushrooms were not mushy and had a nice sauce accompanying them. The sauteed onion and white cheese added additional depth. The meat was juicy and flavorful and the bun soft and fresh. The french fries were thin and crispy but had a nice softness inside. This was an excellent lunch, and each burger was a wonderful flavor sensation. The french fries and onion rings were an excellent accompaniment and deserve mention on their own. Bond-o to Burger also does breakfast and I look forward to trying that soon as well.
