Diptyque is a beautiful small haven tucked away in the Lexington Passage, offering a momentary escape from the hustle and bustle of the terminal. The moment you step inside, the atmosphere is just divine. The scents are incredibly fragrant and sophisticated, and the store itself is exquisitely organized and displayed. What truly made my visit exceptional, however, was the outstanding customer service. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable without being pushy. The fragrance was like a pheromone I did not know I needed in my life. The home fragrances smelled divine. Deon the gentleman assisting me was so patient, knowledgeable, and guiding me through the different notes and even sharing his favorite suggestions. The scent makes my home feel very regal. This store is a gem. The products are of magnificent quality and worth every penny for the luxurious experience they provide. Whilst shopping in Grand Central I was filled with glee to purchase a few items at Diptyque boutique on the main concourse. My bounty of goods - - - - - Lavendar candle: Fills the atmosphere with a warm summer sky adorning lavender bushes flowing on the plush Alps de Haute-Provence. The mineral scent of the earth whispers magical notes of the delicate little blue flowers. Heavenly! - Gel Lavant Revigorant: An invigorating, fresh foaming cleanser for the body and hair containing refreshing peppermint essence, almond extract for shine, and wheat to soothe. The salespeople are usually friendly and helpful. Return/exchange process is insane, as someone else mentioned. Sub-par. Very small shop, pretty and well stocked. But the little price signs on the tables have some products not others. It's tedious to have to scan through lists and then realize they don't cover half the things on the table and so you have to wait for the salesperson to even ask the price or size options ... The scents are interesting but not subtle. In my view they're hit and miss. I wouldn't buy any as a surprise gift, especially given how specific the scents are and how hard exchanges are, (even brand new, unopened, fully sealed items). But there's a lot of loyalty. My stepdaughter loves one of their perfumes w a passion. I think overall diptyque is good but maybe over extending. I always get the exact same samples when i buy something there, no matter what i say (floral or woody). Returns are absurd. It's all a little confusing, too 'pretty pretty' and not highly functional unless you have the store to yourself and full attention of an employee. read more

I've heard about their candles and I've always been tempted to buy their most popular candle scent called "Baies". But I can't justify paying $60 for a jar of wax and besides, I hardly lit candles at home anyway. But I came by this shop to see if they have some more other practical options (perhaps a spray) with a similar scent. The sales associate told me they don't make the room spray in that scent. However, she was trying to sell me this ridiculous looking diffuser that looks like a giant hourglass with a price tag of $150. Um no thank you! I ended up finding the spray in that scent on Amazon anyway. ( Go Amazon! ) For sure, the sales associate was disappointed and she didn't even say bye when I left. Oh well! read more

Great products, but the sales person should not be in a public-facing job. Plus, she doesn't know her products and gave me wrong information. I went in to buy some of the 34 boulevard perfume for which I'd previously received a sample. Well, there's two kinds, one with a white top and the other with a black. Not knowing which, I asked for a sample of each. She says there are none. Period. And walked away. I also wanted soap, so picked that up and approached the register. Asking her if I could find the old sample vial, would it say on it which one it was. She says yes, and pulls out the stock draw, and tells me the two names in French and shuts the drawer. Well, I don't speak French, so needed to write them down. She says it again, with great pain. Finally, upon my asking, she reluctantly writes them down on a business card. I get home only to find out she's wrong - the vial doesn't say which 34 Boulevard fragrance it was. If management reads this, this sale took place on 9/23/15 in late afternoon. I've been going to the Diptyque in the West Village (this is the only brand I will buy for candles) and was dreading taking the subway lines during rush hour to go there in Grand Central station when lo and behold, there was a Diptyque within. It's a tiny store, but I like it that way. I got what I needed (Baies is a personal favorite of mine, like many people) and scored a couple of samples. Julia is terrific, and she even told me that they provide free 2 day shipping over $70 straight to your house when I told her I hated trekking so far out of my way. I love diptyque candles, but have only purchased them from Neimans in the past. I was passing through Grand Central one day and popped in and bought a couple candles in diptyque's retail shop there (for no less then $100...). When I was asked if I wanted to sign up with my name, address and other contact info I hesitated because I generally don't like to give out my personal info - but, I was told I would receive a free mini candle (worth $30!) on my birthday in the mail. Sign me up! My birthday came and went and after two phone calls and an email to customer service, still no birthday candle. So, I took a star off for poor customer service. read more

Premium quality product with sub par customer experience. I buy other similar products from other premium brands and while I rarely ever have to return anything, I have never had any issues with stores accepting returns for full credit. Dyptique's quasi 'return policy' only allows you to return merchandise for store credit or exchanges. Even though this return policy is on the receipt, it does not explain that its only for exchanges or store credit, which is very deceiving. Any brand that offers a premium product also offers the confidence to the customer that they will guarantee a pleasant experience through and through. This demonstrates to me that they don't really stand behind great customer service. I think the product is good, but nothing that special where people have to settle for a sub par customer experience. I have had a much better experience at L'occitane which is actually more affordable than Dyptique. Going forward, I choose to shop at the brands that fully stand behind their product and an optimum customer experience that reflects the status of 'premium'.
