Please do NOT schedule an event for a three day weekend, for which you have to register -- so it is not as if you don't know what numbers you will have, and if too many, why not close the registration ? so that you do not run out of the samples you have continually advertised. Count the samples and count the registrants and stop when the numbers are equivalent. Also, do not tell people who sign up in person to go away for two hours or so only to have them come back to find the promised free samples are gone. And do not hire line managers who actually work in your stores, who decide that although there are "no more free samples," that there are certain people on the line who they like and to whom they can somehow manage to find leftover free samples to give just them...but in front of everyone else. These behaviors make everyone who spent hours waiting for nothing declare that they will never be your customers...fragrant candles or no fragrant candles. And after that, do NOT expect anyone will want to burn up one of the $90 candles you are selling -- why not just burn $90 in cash ? -- granted the burning candle will smell nice, but soon it will be gone.....wouldn't incense make more sense ? The cost is certainly not even close. How many people wasted this lovely afternoon ? Well, never again. read more

I called in to see if they had two specific candles -- the Seoul and the NYC -- as I wanted to get these as a set for a special birthday gift. (I'll call him H since his name started with an H), was so accommodating over the phone and even more so when I went into the store later that day. He brought me over to smell the candles first, which was very thoughtful, and the smell of the candles were perfection. He boxed and wrapped them up sooo beautifully and gave me a blank post card to write a message. It was the perfect gift. Diptyque is quality and luxury in itself and when staff members are courteous and thoughtful, they add even more to the brand and in-store experience. Tha k you for the wonderful experience. I had an absolutely terrible experience. I successfully RSVPed for the free candle give away. I spent an hour to get there, I checked in at the store, was told by staff to come back in 30 minutes, received a text saying it was my turn to come back and pick up my free candle and when I came back, the staff told me they ran out of candles. Had a great experience while trying to pick a perfume. The shop is dimly lit and smells great (though it can be overpowering when trying to smell the perfumes). The staff there were very patient and helpful. She helped me narrow down which scent I liked the best (the Do Son in either eau de toilette or eau de perfume). She even recommended that I take the samples home and then come back to purchase the perfume once ready. Also really liked how I wasn't pressured into buying something right away or felt rushed while in there. Will be back to purchase a perfume once I choose which one I like the best. read more

Had a lovely experience at this location, I initially didn't plan on buying anything but just to try some scents for future purchases. I told the associate I love peppery / spicy accords in my perfume , I was looking for something similar to their Orpheon EDP or anything "spooky/ witchy" adjacent. I sampled three different scents and fell in love with 34 Boulevard Saint Germain EDP , they knew exactly the vibe I was going for (we were all water signs ) and they were sweet enough to give me a sample of Philosykos which I literally ordered 20 minutes after leaving this location. I will definitely be returning this this location for my future purchases, truly top notch customer service ! read more

Came for a special event here that my friend was invited to. I was in the market for a new everyday scent, so I told the SA about the other fragrances that I like. Me: "I also like the way the Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardomom smells, but I'm not sure if I like it on me because they never have any samples, so I haven't been able to test it out." SA: "Ugh I hate when they do that!" A few minutes later... Me: "Can I have a sample of the Geranium cardomom one?" SA: "I don't have any samples of that." Lol what? Came here to get a candle for my wife's birthday. The store was empty as it was a rainy weeknight, so I was able to speak to someone immediately. The representative walked me through the offerings and also let me smell a variety of candles and perfumes. I settled on a candle and perfume gift set - which was a HUGE hit with my wife. The smile she had when spraying the perfume was worth every penny. I really liked the way they wrapped and packed the items, and the fact that they threw in extra samples. This way she could test the perfume before opening the real bottle. This way she could exchange if needed. I appreciated that the store was not pretentious and they were very patient with me since I wasn't sure what I wanted to buy. read more

I really really looooooooooooooooooooooooooove their candles and diffuser - a total fan! Beautiful packaging and large range of scents here. Not to mention you can find their skincare line that you wouldn't be able to find at Barneys CO OP. I was unpleasantly surprised on my birthday when I stopped by my favorite fragrance store for my birthday candle. They tried to put me off by saying they needed a "code" to give me the candle and couldn't find my purchases in their system. They never offered to simply call the store in Los Angeles because they clearly didn't want to and couldn't be bothered. I was not put off and called my local store myself who told me that there was no such code and asked why they didn't just call them to verify I was a customer with many purchases. The Bleecker Street store was then forced to talk to my home store and begrudgingly put my birthday candle in a bag and gave it to me. When I got home I found it was an unwrapped candle. All their candles are pristinely wrapped in cellophane. Was I given a return? A sample? What a FAIL. So ungracious. read more

I visited this store on two occasions, once to purchase a perfume and the second time to exchange it. I had a great experience on my first visit; the sales rep was super sweet, helping me try many scents and giving me recommendations based on my preferences. I also received a small sample of the perfume I purchased, and the rep explained that I can try the fragrance out before I fully commit to opening the big bottle and exchange it if I don't like it. I ended up exchanging the perfume for another fragrance, and on my second visit to the store, a different sales rep checked me out. This one was very curt and rude, and even the friend I was with said she was taken aback by her behavior to me. Her attitude was noticeably cold while she was doing the exchange, and when I asked if it would be possible to get a small sample of the new perfume bottle I was purchasing, she proceeded to give me one snappy "NO." No further commentary or explanation, just a glare. Okur... I'm pretty sure diptyque always gives a tester sample of the fragrance when you purchase it, as the other sales rep had explained to me on my first visit, but if this isn't possible for the new exchanged item, I at least expected an explanation that the store doesn't give samples for exchanges. Major disconnect in my two visits to this store. Left the store smelling good, but quite disappointed in the service. I expect way better customer service given the price point of this brand. read more

Looking at the other reviews, maybe I came here on an off day? But my friend and I found the staff to be extremely rude - we both love Diptyque and were excited to stumble upon this particular location after brunching in the West Village. We walked in and there was literally only ONE other customer and two sales associates inside--both of them looked up when we came in, ignored me and my friend's "hellos" and promptly resumed talking to the other customer (do you really need two employees to describe a candle to someone?) I've experienced rude customer service but I've never been straight up ignored blatantly like that at any store, ever. Needless to say, that definitely soured the experience so my friend and I walked out after a couple minutes (the employees did not bother to say goodbye, surprise surprise). Still a fan of Diptyque but will never come back to this location, which is a shame because it's in a lovely neighborhood. read more

Was so excited when I came across the Diptyque boutique one day out of coincidence. Long story short, wasn't thrilled. It's really small, the selection really isn't any different from what you'd find in department stores (where I find it's better to buy especially if you carry a store card as your purchase will accumulate store points) and the ambiance just wasn't what I expected. Only reason why I give 4 stars is because the staff was super helpful and did not pressure me at all. Also, their quality and elegance just can't get less than four stars. My review is for the store, not the product. Stick to Neimans, Nordstrom etc in my opinion. read more

Bumped into this location accidentally on my way to lunch. This location is very spacious and pretty! The staff was pleasant and took their time to help me pick out scent. The candles as you should know are not cheap. Luxury candles are for the candle connoisseur so keep that in mind when you hear the price. These are not the high end candles I usually get but I do like Diptyque candles and I found the two scents I wanted (gardenias and 'inside Catholic cathedral'). Amazing! When you first go in the store, the senses are awaken. The candles are super expensive but worth every penny. Even when the candle isn't burning, it still smells up the room with the most delicious scent. My favorite scent is Myrrhe but I love Baies, Fig, Santal too. The scented ovals will perfume your closet or bathroom perfectly. The perfumes are amazing, L'ombre is a staple for me. It's the most balanced scent. The Diffuser is fab as well as the body oil. Ok, as you can tell, I know this store well and spent way too much money. read more

Greg helped us today and he was AMAZING. He was so helpful in sorting through me speaking in riddles trying to describe what kind of scent I wanted, and we went on an adventure through half of the main display table. Finally, he showed me his favorite one and it was so complex and storied, I fell in love. He sent us off with a big bottle of that, but also a sample of it for me to test before I open the big bottle- just in case I had any doubts. He also included a sample of the rose perfume which was my previous favorite, and I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet so that was so thoughtful. Welcome to my first negative review. I won't get into how overpriced this place is. Visited to exchange a gift with gift receipt - 14 days store exchange. But, no - they won't take it because the cellophane was opened. How do you see what a gift is without opening it? For such a supposedly classy place, this is ridiculous. Did you open the paper? Did you open the cellophane? Worst customer service I've seen. Abrupt and unreasonable. There are so many better stores where you can spend your money. read more

This is my first time writing bad review on Yelp. Such a RUDE and LAZY staff here. Did I just visited Hermes boutique or is this a candle store? Will NEVER visit this location again. I visited the store on Dec 17th for my best friends bday gift. There were two customers looking around and one of them were doing gift wrap. The rude salesperson came up to me asking if I need a help, which she doesnt seemed to help me with anything but for sure pretending because of the policy I guess. I had specific one that I wanted her to have so I turned down the help and ask for the gift wrap. She ended up gave me tiniest bag for the product. I asked for a little bigger bag since I know they sure do have it because I am a regular customer but not in this location. She told me that she only had this tiniest bag, which doesnt make sense (how will you pack for the large volume purchase customer? - 100 bags of it?). Then i asked again for bigger bag and she finally told me that it is either huge one of tiny one. This was okay for me cuz its out of the stock. But, the other sales gave a little bigger bag to another customer. She LIED to me. Why do you even do that. Also, Did NOT even ask for my account. If you do not want to work, just quit the job dont make the customer feel uncomfortable. read more

I visited a few minutes before they closed and wish the associates would have spent more time with me and made recommendations. I just ended up walking out with a full sized Baies candle. I had a wonderful experience in this store. I had been gifted a Diptyque candle before but had never had the chance to visit the store in person. The staff (a young woman, I can't remember her name) was incredibly, helpful and attentive without being overbearing or anything. I browsed kind of mindlessly until landing on a boutique exclusive, Foin Coupe. I also bought the fig room spray for my house sitter. I am a sucker for things that are *exclusive*. I got home with my candle and spray, flash forward a month or so and I want another Foin Coupe candle as a gift for someone. I recalled being told that I could order from the store by phone. I gave them a call and Sydney assisted me promptly and quite kindly. I was provided immediately with an email receipt and tracking number for my gift. Another very pleasant experience with this location. $65 for a candle sounds kind of crazy, and maybe it is, but you absolutely get what you pay for here with regard to quality of product and service... not to mention the store is so visually appealing. All of these experiences have helped secure me as a customer myself (for life) as opposed to someone who just receives a fancy candle as a gift. read more
