We have been Loyal Customers of DirecTV for 21 years. I get the MLB Extra Innings package from them every year and the Hockey package most years. This year we called to add the NHL Center Ice Package and my wife was told it couldn't be added because we still owned $$ for the MLB package which We Had Pre-Paid for Back in April and that the Only way I could get the Hockey package was if we paid $400 on our next Bill! What??? We finally After the Rep Fought us several times got over to the Retention Dept. and the Package was added. In November 2022, we went through AT&T and got Direct TV. We had had Brightspeed for the phone and internet . Spectrum finally installed their fiber optic cable in our area. We really wanted to have better internet, and went for the Spectrum package of phone, internet and TV. We cancelled our Direct TV on September 6th, 2024. We had the bill on autopay. We had been charged $160.00 /month for that service. On March 3rd, 2025 I received an email that said my Direct TV bill was now $225.00/month. My husband called Direct TV and they confirmed that we had cancelled our service and they had continued to bill our autopay. When we had called in September we asked about returning the TV boxes. We were told that a box would be sent to us so that we could return the boxes. This never happened. After 10 days we called Direct TV and said that we had not received a box. We were told that one would be sent. This never happened. When we called on March 4th about the bill, my husband spoke with someone that said their billing went to September 20th. So we would not be reimbursed for that month. We were told that we would receive a prepaid credit card for 4 months. We drove to Henderson, NC 14 miles/one way to the UPS to return the TV boxes after we had packed them. We were told they could not accept them and we would have to drive 26 miles one way to the UPS facility in Wake Forest. When we got there, the boxes were repacked and mailed to Direct TV. Since it has been a month since our contact with Direct TV, my husband called, . About 4 days after we sent the TV boxes back, I received an email that said not to return them but to recycle them. Now it has been a month when we have complied with their initial request to return the boxes to get our refund, and have not heard from Direct TV. I had my husband call Direct TV. after being hung up on twice, he spoke to a lady that said that it takes 60 days to resolve this. So we should expect a check by May 4th. No problem with Direct TV, just what I have written. With all of this, I would not have Direct TV, and AT&T said no contract and we went several times to the Raleigh AT&T office and explained that we were told no contract. And phone calls were not helpful in cancelling the contract. I had stopped at a booth at Sam's Club in Wake Forest where I spoke with a guy Alexandre, when I contacted Sam's Club they said they had nothing to do with this they had just rented the space for the booth. Absolutely thee WORST service we have EVER had. Totally incompetent company. They promised us the Moon and delivered a bucket of aggravation. Our best channel was "searching for signal". We canceled on day 3 after talking with them a number of times. They tried to talk us into keeping them ..... NO. Then they told us there is a $470 early disconnection fee. By FEDERAL LAW, you can cancel any contract within 3 days. They sent is their box to return the equipment. Took over 2 weeks to get it. Then came the e-mails for 2 months of payments for their service, and asked if we were satisfied with it !! THEY HAD HAD OUR EQUIPMENT FOR OVER A MONTH !! I checked the tracking and found that the box was refused at the Post Office BY THE CUSTOMER !!!! We get another e-mail for 3 months worth of service !!!! Then an e-mail to "call this number immediately" to pay our bill !!! I blocked our account at the bank because they continually tried to get in it. I did a lot of research before switching to Directv. I made the mistake of not looking for Directv reviews and complaints. On march 20, 2023 I chatted with Bea on Directv's chat line from 3:46 PM until 5:29 PM, 1 hour and 45 minutes. He assured me he had checked all the 'promo' boxes concerned with my new account switching from Dish TV as he was signing me up for Directv. One of the promo boxes had to be filled as my order was being placed. I copied and pasted the entire chat. I tried getting into my new account March 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27, 2023, to make sure everything went as promised. Every time I called Directv I was informed it would take a few days for my account to be set up. The services were installed on March 22, 2023 between 12:00 and 4:00 PM as Bea arranged. My premium channels were not available as advertised in the promo. I called and was informed the premium channels were not part of the promo. After having to call a few different departments I got the premier channels activated. 3/25/23 @ 6:31 PM I spent 1 hour 28 min trying to get someone to verify all my promotions were applied and help me get into my account to make sure the rest of my promo boxes were checked. No one could help or tell me. On March 21, 2023 a bill was generated showing I was to pay $96.23 in addition to the $96.23 being paid through autopay before March 30, 2023 which I did not receive until March 26, 2023. The bill was for services "Mar. 21 - Mar. 21". Service didn't start until March 22, 2023. See Attached. 3/26/23 @ 2:19 PM immediately after reading my email I called Directv and spoke with Shelly for 1 hour 14 minutes. She informed me something was not right; just ignore the bill and she would put notes in my account stating any late fees were covered if any were added. She could not verify if my other proms were added to my account. I told her I just wanted out of my contract. She informed me I had 24 hours to get out, after that I would be charged $480.00. Below are some of the documented times I was calling trying to get my account straighten out on March 27, 2023; 3/27/23 @ 9:59 AM I was on the line with Directv for 20 min 3/27/23 @ 10:38 AM I was on the line with Directv for 1 hour 35 min 3/27/23 @ 12:22 PM I was on the line with Directv for 35 min 3/27/23 @ 4:14 PM I was on the line with Directv for 12 min I was told many different stories. No one could tell me if my other promos were added. I am getting ready to switch providers. I was thrilled with DirectTV initially. Now, DirectTV is "in negotiations with" the CBS provider. It has been 4 months with no end in sight. They give lots of options--all of which require extra equipment or paying for additional services. It is interesting that Spectrum was in negotiations with ESPN for 2 weeks and resolved the problem. I believe DirectTV is clearly putting their profits over customer service. I signed up because I got a promotion in the mail that you would receive a $100 reward card for doing so. It's false advertising. I should of went with Dish. After signing up I called a few weeks later and was told I didn't have the service long enough yet but once I had i would receive the card. If not to call back and she would put it in my notes. Call back after no card and told there's no note and I did not qualify for the card. I pay the $100 to them every month so it's not the money but the principle that it's false advertising and they DO NOT honor their promotions. I was the first person in my area to have DirecTV back in 1998. Upon returning home Sunday afternoon, I noticed my DirecTV wasn't working - got a "searching for satellite signal" message. After trying a couple of things myself, I called and spoke to one of their representatives. She reviewed what I had done, and together we tried a few other options but still couldn't resolve the problem. Her tone was pleasant and upbeat, and she scheduled a service call for Tuesday morning. She also sent an email as a reminder of the date and time of the scheduled service. Service technician called Tuesday a.m. and confirmed the time he would arrive. He promptly arrived within the time perimeters he had given. He also arrived in a property marked van, wore official DirecTV logos on his uniform and had an employee badge with photo and name . I asked the customer service lady 3 times to ensure we could stream direct TV on our smart TV on their application. 3 different time she confirmed that we could use that service. I even made it easier for her and made the example of how we currently use Spectrum cable for this service accurately. Again, I was assured that we can do the same with direct TV. If I could zero stars I would. I had DirecTV years ago before I moved and I don't recall my experience being this bad. I have a bundle package through CenturyLink and thought it would be a good idea, but I was misinformed. My contract started in 2017 and I was told by DirecTV that I could connect all three rooms with no additional cost. That was the first lie that the DirecTV rep told me. When the technician arrived on January 2, 2017, he informed that there was an additional cost to connect three tvs and no tv could mirror any other room. Then the other issues that I've had ongoing are with the breach of my data, which was a huge class-action lawsuit that many were awarded a portion of a multi-million lawsuit against DirecTV and CenturyLink. Along with the on-going issue with the guide showing up as "To be announced" for the past couple of weeks. I have been with Direct TV for about 20 years and have never experienced any problems with customer service/scheduling for a technician to come out until now. After returning from vacation we realized our trees, now in full bloom, were blocking our satellite when the wind blows. I called Monday to set up an appointment. No problem, right? Well, a few hours later I receive a message saying the appointment was cancelled. So, another call on Tuesday and they apologize for the misunderstanding. Again I think no big deal I'll just reschedule. After about an hour on hold, I get an appointment for Wednesday morning between 8 and 12 with a promise to get a phone call from the technician. Wednesday morning comes and goes with no phone call and no technician. So another call to customer service....after an hour of being jerked around they said they were waiting to hear back from the technician and would call us when they heard from him. At 9:15pm I received a call from customer service (who was located in Indonesia!!!) and wanted to schedule an appointment 2 weeks out! Well, I was not very nice to the young lady, but I was pissed off. I apologized and told her I knew it wasn't her fault and that I would call back in the morning after I had cooled off. Today, 20 Jun, I called customer service once again to schedule my appointment. Yep, my appointment is set for 3 Jul!!! My questions to Direct TV: 1. Why in the world did you go with AT&T? After searching online extensively for a cable & internet provider prior to moving here, I had heard many awful things about Time Warner Cable and many good things (at least by comparison) about DirecTV. Granted, it's satellite, not cable, but for me that was neither here nor there. Although in a climate that apparently suffers from daily monsoons in the summer, where the sky darkens and the cicadas sound like the Smoke Monster from Lost, I wouldn't be surprised if the sky blotted out the signal altogether during summer months. But I digress... It took more than two hours and three telephone calls to three separate call centers (two of them overseas) to get an account set up. Usually setting up the account isn't the hard part: usually complaints come later, after the wooing and sweet-talking, when you have to deal with customer service. But they couldn't even figure out how to set up a new account. I know this sounds hyperbolic, and I have trouble understanding exactly went wrong myself, but I believe it had something to do with giving me an accurate price and date for a technician. As for the pricing, there's a rebate I qualified for, but I had to send away for it or else fill something out online by a certain date, which I had but it never showed up on my online account, so service was delayed. A technician finally did come out to our new place. We hadn't moved in yet -- we were still in Tacoma -- but our friends were house-sitting and were there to greet the technician. Apparently the maple tree in our front yard blocked all the signals. So he went home. I called customer service to ask why he hadn't just installed the dish on the side of the house, the back of the house (there's no gate), or the driveway. They had no notes or comments in their file. Also, he did not install the internet connection while he was there, as per my contract. Even my house-sitter friends knew enough to ask about this: the technician had no knowledge or record of internet being on my contract. So I figured I'd probably get a call back from DirecTV, if not to apologize then at least to reschedule. Never happened. I gave it a couple weeks -- waited until we had arrived in Raleigh to take up residence. Still no call. And when I called them, they had no record of my account. So I called Time Warner Cable. They gave me a bait-and-switch, but I'll save that for another review. At least now I have cable and internet that works. read more

We ended up having to keep it in our new residence because we were also told that we would be charged an early deactivation penalty. Due to our jobs one and a half years later we need to move again. We called DIRECTV today only to be told that when we moved one and a half years ago we were locked into another two-year contract. We were told that if we canceled our DIRECTV today we would incur an early deactivation penalty. If we move and took it with us we would again be locked in to another two-year contract. I have been with Direct TV about 15 years. I have never had a problem with Customer Service or receiving a credit. I discovered I was being charged for some equipment that I no longer had, and this was going on for a little over year. They gave me a credit on that call, and The credit covered that months bill and the next months bill, and I have five connections. The only problem is the temporary outage that takes place in a real bad storm, and I have to go clean the dish when it snows. It does not snow that often in NC. DirecTV is the worst company I have ever dealt with. There customer service reps are rude and one hung up on me because I would not buy something he was trying to sell me. They shut off my service for some fluke error (which their customer service rep admitted to), then wanted to stop the promotional rate and double my monthly rate because my service was shut off (on their error!!). Then they had the nerve to charge me a $400+ early termination fee when I would not agree to the doubled rate! Also, after going back and analyzing my bill, I discovered that starting with the second month of service they started adding a 7.99 protection plan fee to my bill out of the blue that I never agreed to! I'm taking them to small claims court to recoup these unauthorized fee charges as well as the early termination fee. I've heard great success stories about people taking them to small claims court for these early termination fees. They will not generally show up for the court date, and/or their legal dept will typically call you to settle or waive the charge if you drop the court case. read more

this is about AT&T's DIRECTV service and or lack of it. Two days ago my sister-in-law who lives with me as a guest. When she powered up her TV to watch AT&T DIRECTV it would tell her no signal found so we called DIRECTV this morning. DIRECTV asked us several questions that I could see justification for. But at the end of it since DIRECTV was not able to assist me. They suggested that a repairman was required to come to my home to resolve the problem. This would require them to charge me $99 for this technicians service as I did not have the monthly service plan which is nine dollars a month. Now mind you AT&T and I have already confirmed that the equipment inside the room works so it's either their box That won't send a signal through to the TV or their cable coming from their box is bad or the box where the signal comes in from the dish to the house is defective. All their problems. This is not a correctable problem other than them replacing something they have sold me that has become defective and charge me 100 bucks to come out here and fix their broken equipment. This was through their employee JADS. Now I asked to speak to her supervisor and Ray came on the line he initially stated That he had spoken to the technician and they had to terminate I either had to get a monthly service contract or I was going to pay $100 for the technician Ray repeated that to me several times during our discussion which one I wanted to pay for so he could schedule a repairman to come out here. After an hour and 39 minutes total time I accepted the The extortion rate of $8.99 a month for the maintenance fee. For you math majors That's 34 years my current rate is $250 a month for my service from AT&T assuming those rate did not go up or down but we're in current dollar values that would be the equivalent Of 250×12×34 or $102,000. Got a sales call this evening from a DIRECTTV representative to discuss the money they could save me monthly - after a few seconds one of my dogs barked and he asked me if I could remove myself from the room because he couldn't hear me, at that time I told him that I wasn't interested in the offer and I was good with my current plan. Directv is the same terrible service as Comcast and time warner. There is no control over their employees when they know you're going to cancel their service. Example we were planning to cut cable and our "deal" for the movie channels and were going to have to pay full price. Direct TV lies to their customers. They lied about the trial period that you have to even know if you have good service or not. You only have 24 hours. They customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. The technician who came out was awful! He was smelly, sloppy, lazy, and he didn't even clean up after himself. He left wires hanging out of my box and my trash cans in the neighbors yard. He didn't even want to go to his van to give a paper guide much less show me how to use the equipment. The nightmare only gets worse. The service sucks. I call the next week to cancel and they tell me I only had 24 hours to cancel without penalty and tack on 500 in cancellation fees. They have third party agents selling you lies and the management has no interest in holding anyone accountable. I would rate them a zero if I could. It's safe to say Directv has provided me with the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. If I could give zero stars, I would. In my personal experience with them (and based off the other reviews here) not a single employee I spoke with knows how to do their job right. I tried to cancel my account back in October since I was moving across country. The representative on the phone tried to get me to put my account on hold rather than canceling. He said my account would be on hold until the end of March. Come March 1st I was charged with the full bill, without any previous warning that my account was being taken off hold (and not to mention the beginning of March, not the end as he stated). I called to ask about this. I told the lady I still needed a few months until the purchase of my house goes through and I actually have a house to use their service. She told me they sent me a notice in the mail stating that my account was being taken off hold. But guess what, they sent it to my OLD address. Why would you do that if I said I was moving? I said it was not fair to charge me for this a) because the first guy told me the wrong thing and b) I never got the notice. and c) I'm not even using the service, the box isn;t even hooked up anywhere. Guess what? None of these "notes" they claimed they were taking were in my account. She did end up reversing the charges which I was very shocked by actually. She put my account on hold for another 2 months, as requested. I moved into my house and called to take my account off hold. I agreed to a basic cable package and a bundling service with CenturyLink for internet (a total of about $150/month). Of course, I had to talk to 4 different people and repeat myself each time in order to make this happen. It took TWO HOURS on the phone to finally submit my order. A few weeks later I get a bill for almost $300.00. Obviously, I was shocked and confused so I called to ask about this. Again, I got transferred 3 times and had to repeat myself each time. They say they take notes so you don't have to repeat yourself but they never do, everyone says there are no notes and to repeat my problem. Finally, I get to a woman who actually raises her voice and yells at me the entire conversation. She claims that every charge is valid. When the first guy put my account on hold and it got taken off hold, I got charged a "partial" month. When the 2nd representative I spoke with put my account back on hold and I called to take it off hold, I got charged another partial month. Nobody EVER told me this was going to happen. They are frauds trying to get money. So now my account has been on and off hold twice just because of a phone call I made asking about a bill and I got charged two partial months for no reason. On top of all this the last lady I spoke with even admitted, and I quote her exact words "the last woman you spoke with actually should not have reversed all those charges, she did not do her job correctly. Those charges were also valid." And guess what else. She told me my new line of service ordered actually never got bundled. After 4 transfers and talking to the bundling department themselves, it never happened. When I asked her why I have to pay because not a single person has done their job right and I'm not responsible for these charges she screamed at me and said they would take me to collections. Just like that. Collections. Without even trying to solve any sort of problem. I inquired about the recordings they take, I asked her to find those and it would prove i'm right. Of course, she says they can't actually access those. So you tell me how me, as a customer against a giant company, I can defend myself if they take no responsibility and just say the customer is wrong every time? So now, I have two options. Cancel my account and pay a $450.00 cancellation fee + $300.00 (remember, collections). Or pay the $300.00. How is this fair? How does the better business bureau let them get away with these things? I'm writing this review because it's the only thing I can do about it, besides canceling when my service is up, never using them again, and making sure none of my friends or family use them again. I had to cancel my DIRECTV services early in my contract because of getting married and moving. The place where I am moving to does not allow you to have a dish on there property, so unfortunately I had to cancel my services even though I did not want to. DIRECTV was very understanding and did not charge me crazy fees because of this unfortunate inconvenience. Just want to say Thank you to them and this is the type of customer service that will definitely have me switching to AT&T when time to switch my cell service. As for the actual satellite service, I LOVE IT. As for their sales, technical installers, customer service it is the ABSOLUTE WORST for ANY company, EVER! I initially heard about the horror stories with Directv and their contracts. I initially asked three sales people and three installers (bad weather caused reschedules) about if I had to move and the condo/apt building didn't allow satellites what would happen to the contract: ALL SIX employees/representatives ALL CONFIRMED that I would not be held accountable and the contract cancelled with no penalties. The truth is, the contract is written in such a way to be so ambiguous in this area that it is unclear. However, the contract does say "you agree to pay for services provided"... which implies that if services CAN NOT BE PROVIDED that you will not have to pay. There is no direct or specific mention of apartment and condo buildings that disallow satellites; you only receive a vague reference from customer support to a federal law that allows satellite companies to install their dishes in apt/condo complexes, with the caveat that the renter/new owner has a "personal space" such as a patio, covered lanai, or some other area that allows exterior installation of the satellite dish. Meanwhile, all of this research is left up to you, the customer to figure out. Not a single person from Directv will call your apartment/condo complex or has any written documentation to provide to your condo association proving that they can not block installation. In my case, the installers (3) of them came out and verified that they could not get line of sight from my condo due to trees. They were nice; if I had a not so nice installer who wanted to beg to differ, it would cost me over $300 to get out of this contract. Why so much you say? Well, each and every time you add a service to your account (such as getting a new DVR or receiver) Directv adds another two years to your contract for the equipment lease!!! Watch out... this company is devious and outright out to rip you off! Long story short, I love the service, but make sure you live in an area that does not rain, snow or have high winds as the service will cut in and out. Also, I would reinstall this service again, if it were not for the contractual language which ties you into a two year contract with no outs outside of suing them in small claims court. This is the WORST contract for a consumer to enter into. It is totally one sided for Directv and will cost you big $$ if you just let them win without a fight from you the consumer should you move to an apt/condo that does not allow or have the dedicated space to install their satellites. read more

I was a long time user of Direct TV back when they had Tivo. Loved them with Tivo. Was with them for 10 years. Tried them again in a different state without Tivo. YUCK! Didn't like the interface, didn't like the service, couldn't get a movie to play on the screen even after 45 minutes of phone service. Unfortunately, Direct TV lost a loyal customer and they decided to charge me a $300 cancellation fee. Really? Time to explore new things...hows apple tv looking? read more

I have had Directv for about 5 years. Recently cancelled and went with SPECTRUM. It seems that Directv was not able to successfully renegotiate with FOXSPTS and as a result no football on Saturday or Sunday this Fall 2017. So I switched. Now here is the kicker. Directv owes me a credit of over $118.00 I cannot get it back until I return my five (5) receivers and they will not send me boxes to send back. Unsatisfactory.
