After 11+ years of less than satisfactory customer service and probably thousands of dollars in payments I am fed-up. On 2/21/2019 I contacted Direct TV about replacing a receiver that was outdated. I spoke to a "Melanie" in West Virginia and at the conclusion was told a refurbished unit had been ordered and would be on the way. On 3/1/2019 when nothing had arrived I called Direct TV customer service and was told no equipment was showing in their system to be delivered. If this were a first time occurrence, I could have understood. Needless to say, this occurrence really has been more than the norm for Direct TV than an exception. One helpful worker (out of like 30 I talked to) said that the orders were through phone calls, but that's all we got. After yelling out of frustration, I got through to them to try and get the number that has been calling our account. They said they would call back when they figured it out. NEVER USE DIRECTV OR AT&T, unless you want to be cheated. AT&T and Directv (owned by AT&T) are criminal in how they operate. I had an AT&T mobile account for about 10 years (7 users), and had Directv in two different homes for many years, and because of how shady they are, I finally had to cancel. But this latest one (parting gift) is unbelievable. I canceled the last of those accounts and was owed the balance (the bill auto Pre-paid, then I canceled a few days later). They made it really hard to send back the equipment, and then when I did, they somehow had no record of it and were trying to charge me $290 for it. Finally resolved that one, but then my "refund VISA" card (which is also BS - they should wire the money back or send a check) never showed up... so I contacted them about it, and somehow that final payment was both simultaneously covering past and future services (Directv bills in advance), and that it miraculously covered exactly what I owed. I currently have DirecTV for internet and cable. I will say the service SUCKS! Internet is horrendous. I'm typically at 2-3 bars, watching streaming video is slow and will time out and worst of all, the connection will be "insufficient" and will kick me out of my sessions because the internet stops connecting at whatever time it wishes. I would not use Directv at all, previously had Comcast and the connection was still bad but let's say a little better than Directv. I also recently called in to see what packages they have for a new place I'm moving to and the sales rep tries to sell me on the cable portion after I told him my main focus would be internet, phone and then basic TV. He asked what channels I like and I told him once again, I don't watch TV so I don't care. They say they sent an email, but I have months of emails before and after said email and not 1 has anything about extending contract. They won't prove we agreed to extend (which we didn't, we've been talking about getting rid of them for almost a year, as soon as the contract was up, why would we extend if we wanted to get rid of it). So now they are going to charge us additional fees. There service is ok, not worth the price though. It goes out or throws errors on occasions. I purchased from the vendor inside the West Valley City Costco. I'm not a fan of Directv to begin with. Since AT&T purchased them, and since I have an AT&T mobile, the promised bonuses seemed to overcome the disdain I have had for Directv for years. Sadly, they weren't. I got a gift card and with my AT&T mobile, 2 year price lock (we'll see if they honor this one in 9 more months). But the vendor made a promise they couldn't keep. My loss was $240. When I complained, I was brushed off. Since Directv mandates that you're locked into the contract the moment it is installed, there was no recourse. After several complaints with the vendor over at Costco, I was promised a $120 credit. I figured 1/2 was better than nothing. The vendor, nor Directv has honored that promise, either. I had nothing but problems with the service. I had to sign a 2 yr contract (even though I only had a 1 yr contact at the apartment). I had a bundle with Century Link and DTV. Time to move to a brand new home. I called to transfer everything. Century link figured it out. So new my son helped pull the fiber optics under the road. I pay the fees, send back all equipment done. No 9 months later I'm sent to collections by Century Link. I call the collections co said you must have the wrong person. I'm a current customer with current bills on pre pay. I called Century Link they said it's for DTV service for 3 months after I moved. I said you know that's not right I cancelled and transferred my service. He wasn't any better than DTV. He said they pay in advance for service yet to be rendered????? What? Why? That's how we do it call DTV. I call DTV. Nope you don't owe us. Will you please send me a letter saying I don't owe, well of course they will. I waited a month called them again ask for a supervisor. I repeat everything Nope you don't owe us anything. Ok $$$$ said a letter was on the way. Nope not a word about our call is in the system. I started this yelp account just to write this review. Ever get scammed by some telemarketer in a foreign country? Dealing with DIRECTV is EXACTLY like that. I wish I had read the reviews before getting their service... that was my bad. Please don't let it be yours. DO NOT get their service. Charging ridiculous fees and being rude to customers is how they do their business. Please do not support that. I got the package deal with Centurylink and DIRECTV thinking I could save a bit of money. I was told I had 30 days to cancel if there had been any reservations on my part. With Centruylink, I told them the speeds were too slow for my needs and that I'd like to cancel my service -and they honored it and cancelled my service -no trouble. However with DIRECTV, I spoke with several of their reps and went up the chain to John, the Supervising Manager at their Customer Care Group. After explaining I'd just like to cancel my service, they said I had to pay $480 to get out of it. "I was told I had 30 days", I kept repeating. He said that was wrong and that I really had 24 hours to cancel and called it a "Buyers remorse period." Buyers remorse period? 24 hours is not long enough to test out their service and cancel if you don't like it. But regardless, I need to work things out and I told him I had just recently lost my job and I was wondering if there is anything I could do. The conversation continued and he was rude and raising his voice. And said it's because of me loosing my job that I have a problem with paying. And continues to say that if I had a job, there would be no problem. Seriously? Seriously??? Who doesn't have a problem paying $480 to cancel after the people that sold your service told you that you had 30 days to cancel. I do not appreciate being taken advantage of, and being forced to pay a large amount that no one warned me about prior to me wanting to cancel my service. A company should have values. Direct TV is the worst provider I have ever dealt with. I used their service back in 2013 and cancelled. Two years later they reversed my zero dollar balance and sent the cancellation fees to collections. Direct TV never contacted me to discuss this reversal or communicated with me in any way about this reversal. Now I have to deal with a collections agency because Direct TV wanted to make a buck and sold my case to collections. Worst service ever century link sick and the customer service sucks I will never use them again

I have DIRECTV service through Centurylink bundle. This arrangement has been a hassle the past 1.5 years that. I recently called to stop the NFL Sunday ticket auto-renewed after the 1st year promotion and can neither receive a refund nor turn it off according to the discussion I have had with their customer service. Secondly and more disconcerting is the single charge on the Centurylink bill. After inquiring further through DIRECTV there was an unknown to me insurance charge that was added and unknown charges that were not explained for having their "Genie" services. The largest disappointment is I moved to and added a single unit, I was then told that this renewed my 2 year agreement which I was hoping to run out and change services in April of 2016. At the moment, I have reduced my current services until I hear back from an escalation that I have sent to DirectV feedback...Ugh, very time consuming and poor service between the two organizations. read more

My experience with the Customer Billing department after being on over an hour and had a person plus supervisor with english as a second language and 0 customer service skills left me ready to throw the closest object through the window. I called them a few months ago and canceled everything but the basics....they said my bill was going to be $79/month and then the next month it was $94 and then this month it was $161.....I called and asked them why and they basically had added everything back and then said they would not honor my orginal price of 79 that I was quoted, so F them they just lost a 20 year customer over 15 dollars. Customer service is a joke! They recently partnered with AT&T so you think maybe when you talk to them on the phone you might be able to clearly hear their agents, but no what a garbled mess! Was auto renewed for NFL Sunday Ticket after first year and didn't know it. They said they sent me an email stating i needed to call in if i wanted to cancel. I am sure they did but thing is when i signed up initially with Directv they told me i would need to call in to cancel the auto renew, i told them right then that i wanted to cancel and that was my notice that i did not want to pay for next seasons NFL. But of course they literally "bank" on this kind of practice knowing most people don't read the emails from them or that those emails go to the spam folder. So after being transferred to 3 agents all telling me different stories and with each new agent the quality of the phone call got worse so i could barely hear every 3rd word, and after 55 minutes, mostly on hold, i cancelled my service. Too bad because i liked the end product on my tv. Oh well, Hello COMCAST! By the way i know what you are going to say, Comcast is just as bad.
