Buyer be ware, indeed stay away! Been DirecTV customer since 1994 in same house. We moved and I cancelled my service 9-22-2015. I decided to use ATT U verse for DirecTV and Internet. What a mess that turned out to be! ATT stated they cancelled my TV account too but DIRECTV stated they didn't and charged me another month of service. Also they demanded return of a DVR that I purchased from them years ago. I tried to straighten the mess out but DIRECTV loves to waste your time on the phone, they wear you out. Everything from DIRECTV is verbal no documentation, they say one thing and do another, ask them to put it in writing, they refuse. So sorry I ever trusted them. ATT has ruined DirecTV..........I was a very happy customer for almost 3 years. Recently, I contacted Customer Service about renewing my service and was told that they could not speak with me about renewal of my service or discuss any "special offers" until my last billing cycle was issued! I then went to my local ATT store and spoke to an agent directly......same answer. What a Crazy policy! Thanks ATT. So I waited until I was within a week of my contract expiring and I went back to the local ATT store to seek out any offers that might be available. The agent just put me on the phone with DirecTV Customer Service again. To say the least, the response and offer that I was given was an insult. In essence, after three years of customer loyalty, they would only offer me a 12 month contract and it would only result in an increase in my bill of $40 per month!.... (instead of $60 per month if I just let the account revert to a monthly non-contract plan)......a $20 discount! They later sweetened the offer though; an additional discount of 6 months of a premium movie service for half-price! Wow......Thank you ATT! Frankly, I would have been happy just to stay at the monthly rate that I was paying but that was definitely not offered. I told the DirecTV Customer Service agent that new customers are being treated better with their initial offers than loyal existing customers.......the response I was given was: "Well you have had your opportunity to take advantage of our discounts so now it is someone else's turn"......Essentially inferring that now it was my turn to "pay-up for taking advantage of them" if you will. I was simply stunned by the insinuation! Three years ago, I swore that I would never have the local cable service (the "Com" company) in my home ever again. I have had to swallow my pride as they are my only other comparable option in this area of the country. Oddly, the local ATT agent showed me my personal account information on his tablet........According to that information, my account was listed as a "high value" customer with a "gold" level rating! He was astounded at what happened to us and said that ATT simply did not allow the local agents any options when it comes to DirecTV discounts for renewal customers. "Corporate ATT controls it all" he said. I am now in the process of moving my entire family's cell phone service to another carrier. I have been with ATT for over 30 years in various forms........now they (ATT) will lose over $3000 of revenue per year just because they would not reasonably negotiate with me on a rate increase of $720 on my DirecTV bill. read more

Cancelled my service in February, got a refund check for what wasn't used and was told everything was good. Have now received a bill for 4 months every single month for all different amounts, the latest was for 29 cents. When I call they say "we don't know why your getting a bill, we show zero balance". Ok that's great but when it says you'll charge me if it goes unpaid I'm not ok with that. I'm also not ok with having to call every month and waste 30 minutes on hold to chat about this. I subscribed to Direct TV in Georgia March 2015. I moved to Arizona March of 2016 and was informed that I had a 24 month service contract. I did not no this! I hated Direct TV but was forced to endure them one more year or pay penalties. Fast forward one year and we move locally. I call to cancel with Direct. They did not cancel so I had to call again. It took four calls and they still cancelled the service three weeks late as they first intended. During this time I also took a closer look at my bill. Stupid, I know but I usually just paid it. I discovered that I had been charged $11.00 a month for a year for the Playboy channel to which I NEVER subscribed. I finally received the last bill today, 5/9/17. The bill had a $220.00 charge for "early cancellation". I immediately called Direct TV and was told that when I moved from GA to AZ, they put me on a new 24 month contract!!!! And every time I move they will add another year. I have tried to call and each time end up in a foreign company. The call I made today, I demanded the foreign "supervisor" explain to me how this charge was valid and he said, it is valid and hung up on me. They refuse to refund the charge. read more

When I signed up for Directv, I reviewed with the salesperson the channels I was interested in. I was informed the Select package was the best package but was missing one channel, OWN (279), but it could be added, complementary. After signing me up, i was transferred to someone else to add the channel. That person told me I had to wait until the service was up and running for it to be added. After the service was up and running I called to add the channel and was told I would have to upgrade my service to the Choice package which was over $35 more than the Select package. I explained to the person what I was told on the front end and was told they do that but she wasn't authorized to do it. So she transferred me to someone she thought was authorized to do it. That person couldn't do it either. By then I became frustrated because I had been on the phone with them 40 min. and had gotten no where. The last one person told me they didn't add channels complimentary. So I asked to be transferred to cancel. When transferred I was told I was in a contract and the grace period to cancel was 24 hours. I would have to pay $450 to cancel the service. I believe I was scammed and will seek recourse. read more

I have used direct tv for many years and have been satisfied for the most part. My problem is the new guide which someone probably with ATT decided was better than what we had for years. This thing is clumsy and confusing along with being very hard for me to read. It was so good for as long as I can remember why out of nowhere this change? I had local cable and switched over to Direct TV. Every single month it has been something new with these guys. I have only had it for 4 months and I wish I would have never signed up. The latest that has happen has sent me over the edge. It is December now, and Direct TV has charged me $575 on autodraft. Not realizing what the draft was taken out for I had my card cancelled. I finally got a hold of them, and they told me that it was an accident. They thought that I cancelled the services, when clearly I have the services. It took them an hr and a half of a phone call with a sales rep and a manager to get only $460 plus tax refunded. The rest of the money they are trying to say that my bill was 114 bucks when it is supposed to be 69. After an hr and a half of these morons fighting with me to get MY MONEY back that THEY TOOK I didn't feel like fighting them. So they tell me that they are going to send me a check for the 460 plus tax to my billing address. Since the card I had to cancel wouldn't work for them they had to send a check. That was Friday, it is now Monday and I get an alert that my Direct TV bill has been credited $460. SO here I am now, at work, on the phone with them AGAIN. 30 minutes now and I have talked to 2 people repeating the same damn thing. I swear they do not listen to you whats so ever. They just kept repeating that I would get a credit of $460. I explained yet again what was going on. I would never do business with these people again. Direct TV is ok but expensive. I had a Them for 3 years on a 2 year contract. With out my knowledge they added another contract to my service when my DVR needed to be replaced. I had been paying the $ 7.00 monthly insurance on equipment, something my cable provider never added into the cost. Now that I have canceled Direct TV they are trying to charge me for an Early Cancelation Fee. I have Called 3 time and many hours on the phone to clear this problem up. First. DirecTv is a very complicated system. It will take the user literally weeks to figure it all out. My install covered five televisions and it was a wired installation. After suffering multiple drop outs, I called for Tech Support. They came out and analyzed the system and said they would have to totally rewire the house or go to a Wireless system. That tech recommended wireless with TWO Video bridges. The next tech came out to do the work. He rejected the TWO Video Bridge idea and moved the Genie control box to my Master Bedroom, not telling me that moving it would cause a loss of capability in my main TV room where the Genie was before. Also, he did not properly setup the locations of where the Genie was now placed. The system still thinks the Genie is in the Family Room. I lost the PIP capability in the Family Room. When I called Tech Support for help again, they said their policy was not to install TWO video bridges, and could not send out a Tech because the computer would not let them... I talked to the supervisor who finally said she would call a Tech, but could not say whether the next Tech would charge me or not. She had NO control. She also said that I signed off on the work order, and it was my problem. Go back to first item. DirecTv is a very complicated system. No one, even the Techs have trouble with it, so saying that I signed off on the complete setup was a trap. They also said the wireless equipment would be free except for a $99 charge. What they did not say was that they would charge me for the equipment, over $500, and then decriment that charge each month. This method helps them but blew out my Credit Card. As of now another Tech is coming out to sort this out and the game goes on... NEVER USE DIRECTV. read more

Ok, so when we first got Direct TV 3 years ago based on what some good friends had told us about it, we LOVED it!! Super fast, lots of channels and the price was right.... Fast forward to now since ATT and has taken over, just today in fact....my bill has inexplicably gone up by $40/month in the last 3 months. Had our credit card stolen and had to call Direct TV to change the billing to the new card. The person on the phone (clearly a call center from another non-English speaking country) took over 1/2 hour to just to change my credit card info. Then, when I asked about the higher charges over the last few months all I got was excuses and more gibberish I couldn't understand!! Please bring the English speaking customer service reps back! I am afraid my husband and I will have to be switching to our local cable provider which we don't like much either but at least I know when I call them it will be local!!!!!! read more

After the person finally answers she puts me on hold again to check my account number which I have already put in their system, and cant process my card number. The absolute worst. They use contractors; some may be good, some indifferent, but whichever you get they will have no idea what any other person has done in the past. If your problem is ongoing, you will start over each time a new person shows up. One contractor installed a pole for my dish. I had to write him a personal check in his name. It fell over a couple of months later. Someone else came out, put it back on a pedestal that ruins the grass and can be moved around by hand, the wind, a lawn mower, whatever. The cable went unburied for almost a year. If there is a problem, they will charge you $99 for a service call to service their equipment and provide the service you are paying for, or they will try to extract $9 a month "insurance" to maintain their equipment that provides the service you are paying them for. Customer service is all overseas, and most of the operators I had contact with could not speak or understand English. I called to have the MLB package added to my service; the operator could not understand what I wanted; I ended up having to get it through the internet version directly from MLB. I bought my way out of my contract after a year of their pathetic service. It was still cheaper to switch than stay with them. They tried all kinds of ways to squeeze more money out of me right until the last second I was finally free. Whatever you do, do not get entangled with this horribly run company. read more

Been with DirectTV since 1997 and they used to be easy to work with giving loyalty discounts when the prices go up. However, all that changed once AT&T bought them. First, I have the protection plan which is supposed to get me service on the equipment when I have a problem. That's not what it means. It really means you can call several times and you get the run-a-round. One of my DVR's was very slow. For instance, I was watching a sporting event and wanted to go back to rewatch a play. I hit the back button, but when I hit play to stop it from going backwards, it didn't stop. In fact it went all the way back to almost the beginning before it finally recognized that I hit play. Hitting the guide or list would take 60 seconds or more to come up. I called DirectTV three times telling them the DVR is too slow. They stated that 60 seconds for the guide to come up was acceptable. At one point I asked the guy what the protection was for if it's not going to fix problems when I have them? He stated "you haven't called enough times for us to send you a new unit". Seriously, that was a quote word for word. I then asked him how many times I need to call? He couldn't tell me. I then asked for a manager. Once he was on, he said the same thing as the first guy. He wanted me to reboot the machine, which I told him that I've done that multiple times without any success. I decided to do that. It took a little over 22 minutes to boot up the machine. After about 15 minutes, he decided to start working on the paperwork to get me a new box. Now the billing, I was getting a $20 loyalty discount which expired after last month. However, my bill went up by $30. I called to find out why the difference, they said that I was also getting an additional $10 discount. The only problem is that I never saw a $10 discount on any of the previous statements. She just seemed to be making things up as she went along. Then I asked if they have any other loyalty discounts. She said that I was grandfathered on a plan and I would have to switch to another plan that's cheaper but I won't get the channels that I stated that I watch. In other words, you can get a bunch of channels that you won't watch but your bill will be cheaper. I told her that I won't switch off my plan. I've already cancelled the NFL Sunday ticket as they aren't negotiating the price as much as before and it's just not worth it any more. She said she can give me a $5 discount. I hung up. Remember when TV was free and it was paid for with commercials? Well, we're still watching a poop load of commercials but we pay out the a## too. I'm not sure any other service is better. They got us and they know it. As long as we keep paying these prices, there is no reason for them to change. The AT&T acquisition was definitely for the customer's benefit. read more

Have had Direct tv for over 15 years, and regretfully...we live in a remote area and also have an RV.. Seems Direct has the best service while traveling...but apparently there is so much theft of their precious boxes that I became the victim of having to call each and every time we traveled having to give them many security verifications before they would reconnect me...usually 45 minutes to an hour wasted!!! They will then offer you a FREE HBO or some other useless programming thAt shows OLD movies from the 90s, or just bad selections...so after 90 days my bill jumps from 69 to 97 or more because I FORGOT to cancel something they offered me for FREE....then I had a bad receiver so called to complain and they immedediately sent me another box BUT It's WAS A HI DEF box for an additional $15/mo. I called again and said "I don't wand HDR TV". The rep said "that is the only box you can get now...THAT WAS A LIE. EVERY month my bill is different...WHY????? So called yesterday to drop everything but the BASIC...I now get channels 2,4,7,9,11 and 13...plus about 60 INFOmercials...plus Spanish, Korean and Chinese channels!!!! We have NETFLIX for $7.99/mo and will cancel all once we are set up on an antenna...and THEY will try to charge us a cancel fee after 15yeaes...yea, right! If you are not on NETFLIX, you need to...let's not put up with this financial abuse...they get millions in advertising, so why should we pay anything??? What is wrong with an antenna? We have Directv for years. In the last couple of months we have not received a bill so have not paid the bill. Come to find out, we somehow are signed up for paperless billing. When we tried to talk to a service representative about the bill, Directv wants $5 to talk to a person. I find this to be DISGUSTING! After we paid the bill that was due, we were told be the we had a balance of $20 but we I got online to try and figure out what was going on, the website said I still owed money. I had direct tv order for my son,who lives in Texas, the contract was basic Chanel's for $55.00 monthly for l year, 3 month later the bill start to go up higher in higher, my son try to limited the bill he was not successful, they were adding Chanel's without any request. My son had free Direct tv through his apartment complex. He NEVER used the direct tv for the whole 2 years he lived there. DTV kept giving him free trials for 30 days (without his permission) He did not know he had free trials because he never used DTV. After the trial time was up, they charged him because he didn't cancel. After hours and hours on the phone with them, he finally said just cancel my free DTV service through the apartment complex. He still wasn't interested in using their service and never had been. The bills continued for months and then they slapped him with a cancellation fee for stopping a service he never used. They have since sent it to collections because NOBODY employed there has a brain. Customer service sucks at DTV. I know because I tried to call for him and straighten it out and was disconnected THREE times. Total MORONS...can't even speak to a supervisor when you ask for one. Do not deal with Direct TV. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE ATTEMPTING TO ACTIVATE SERVICE WITH DIRECT TV. Had an apt with a technician for 4-8pm. The technician decided to show up at 12:30 in the afternoon. Of course, no one was home because that WASN'T the scheduled apt time. The technician put in his system that I "cancelled" MY apt. When I contacted the company to see what no one was coming during my scheduled window- I WAS TO BLAME!!! They told me that it would be 72 hours until someone could reschedule- and even with that, the best they could do was put me on a "Wait List". Horrible Customer service. I had Directv for five or six years. I do not have their service any longer. Why? One, they said I'd be charged up to $500.00 to transfer my service when I moved last month - total of 4.3 miles. Two, when I requested a HD receiver late last year - it supposedly put me in another two year contract-I never agreed to another two year contract and was not informed of this from Directv. So, this company has a $20.00 per month penalty for getting out of your contract early ( the contract I was never told or agreed to). Three, so I returned their equipment - the rep told me I had 21 days to do so. Okay, I went to the post office on June 7th and the equipment still hasn't arrived. But it gets better, now Directv is saying I only had seven days to return the equipment. In addition to "breach of contract" penalties, they have added almost two hundred dollars worth of charges for "unreturned" equipment. Four, this company will also use whatever bank account or credit card you have used to pay them to collect these unauthorized charges and penalties. Another authorization I never agreed to or gave permission for. Five, they wanted their damn equipment so much that they left the damn satellite dish and we're going to charge another fifty dollars for someone to come remove it. DIRECTV is forcing me to sign up for a "qualifying" AT&T Internet or AT&T wireless service by May 25,2018 in order for me to be allowed to keep my $45 a month promotional discount. The company is stating that if I do not sign up for a second qualifying AT&T service, the price of my DIRECTV package will increase by $45 after May 25, 2018. On April 22, 2018 at 5:40 pm, I called the DirectTV Customer Service Line in Spanish at 800-531-5000 to request a waiver of the requirement to sign up for an additional service by AT&T. Josué took my call and as I explained my concerns, he continued to explain that AT&T did not offer internet service in Groveland, Florida. He continued to instead offer me the AT&T wireless service lines. I declined this offer because I already have cellular service provided to me by T-Mobile. Because of his lack of authority and inability to aid in my distress, he transferred me to his supervisor Esaú, who referred me to the emails they sent me when I signed up for DIRECTV as the reason not to waive the requirement. I requested a copy of my initial contract to be sent to my email at Jrsarieta2@aol.com and to this day, I still have not received that contract by email. Instead, I had to go online and fish for the information that I requested to be sent to me. Instead of working hand-in-hand with me to resolve my concern, Esaú attempted to sell me a wireless service that I do not need or desire. As I reviewed my initial contract, I noted that my I signed up for OPTIMO MAS, and in italics it stated "$45 off $95 for 24 months". It did not state anywhere on my contract that after 12 months, I would have to sign up for internet OR cellular service with AT&T. I am still within the 24 moths of the $45 special and feel completely offended that this company would attempt to fool me with such offer. Their absence and lack of professionalism in my community is absolutely absurd! How can I sign up for a service that they do not offer in my community? They are forcing me to get cellular service with AT&T in order to keep my $45 special, and honestly, I feel robbed of service and of my money! They did not disclose this information at the time I signed up for their service on May 30, 2017, and I feel lied to and misled by their hype about their services. I was enticed into purchasing a product that does not function properly for my needs! read more

The reps have no idea which way is up. After 4th call I was told I needed a manager. Waited 10 more minutes . I'm no longer a big fan of DirecTv yet have been a customer since 2002 (use to be a big fan). Since the AT&T acquisition, the service, the amount of BS the employees are required to put customers through, and overall lack of quality control has declined drastically. This is not the DirecTv of 2002 or even 2008, it's just crap folks. Today was the latest issue. I had to replace a very good digital receiver. It died after 7 years of great service. Today I received an upgraded receiver yet it is a USED POS. They didn't even clean the previous owners finger prints or dust off the box. The quality of the replacement box is a joke. The paperwork states plug and play and all my settings were saved. Not even close. I had to waste a solid hour talking to Dave, then Bob, since Dave was incompetent to get the new box to receive a signal. We can't receive local channels due to mountains in our area so are bound to pay for someone's services. Like many, we are limited to 3 options in our area and all 3 are the same. It's just up to me to decide when enough is enough and cut the chord - remove the dish. Good luck all. read more

I have never dealt with a more sleezy company. AT&T convinced me that it would be a good idea to upgrade to an unlimited plan and include DIrect TV. The AT&T customer service agent lied to me about the processes necessary for this to take place... I now have two separate bills going to two different people. (which I inquired about originally and was assured it would be included under one bill) The Direct TV installer would not install the dish where I asked him to and instead put the dish in the most inconvenient place on my roof... It was such an eye sore that I had to get on the roof myself and remove the dish. I called customer service today and was transferred 3 different times before I finally got someone who was able to help me... Then I sat through another round of validations on the account just to be told that I need to the other account holder on the phone too... wasted an hour and a half of my work day on this just to be told that they can't do anything... I have never been more frustrated. I will never use or never recommend Direct TV again. read more

If you have lots of time on your hands and love to spend a lot of time on the phone then direct tv is for you. I'm sure that there are lonely people out there who enjoy speaking with agents to get the extremely complicated billing straightened out. One minute they tell you that you cannot do this or that and it wipes out your discounts, then the next minute they are crediting you for this and that. The bottom line is that you will pay way more than you expect after all is said and done and if your time is worth any money, then you come out way behind. I have had Directv for years and I have loved it. Until this week! On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, i called, and after trying to talk with the person I was with no help, i asked for a manager. She said that they were all busy and one would call me back within 30 mins. Never happened. So i called back today. This time the woman said she would place me on hold and get a supervisor. Only she sat the phone down and I could hear her talking to someone in the back ground. Then she yells into the phone "bye bye" i didnt hang up, but after a total of 8:13 mins I said "hello" and she in a very rude and condescending voice said to wait still and when i brought up the bye bye statement she argued evem saying it! I really hope you record all calls and can go listen to it. I am livid with your customer service skills. I'm only giving this one star because it won't let me put zero. Signing up for Direct TV was the WORST mistake. They are completely misleading and every month throw in hidden fees and charges. I was told I would have a combined monthly internet and cable bill of $80 per month. It has been 3 months and my bill has NOT been combined. I get one interntet bill and later, another bill for Direct TV. The Direct TV bill has been over $150 every single time. When I call to speak with someone, which I have done every month, I get transferred all over the place and told something completely different every single time. Then they explain that the charges include unpaid amounts from the previous month, which I WAS NEVER ORIGINALLY BILLED FOR. After paying and being assured that my account is up to date and next month my bill will be cominded and at the correct $80, it is absolitely not. There are always more surprise charges and more misleading. I don't know how they can legally do this. If I wasn't uder contract I would cancel my service immediately. DO NOT USE Direct TV. Terrible company! I signed up with them because I was told I could bundle tv and internet; after I agree and get directv installed, ATT tells me I cannot get internet service at my home. So, I cancel directv and they have the nerve to tell me I have to pay 490.00 cancellation fee! Never again would I use this company, deceptive and rude!!! read more

Don't do it! Lies and deception. I have att/direct tv bundle. First issue took months to resolve since they never cancelled the free 3 month premium channel promotion when I signed up even though I called to cancel. Now they've sent an email promotion offering HBO/CINEMAX for $15.99 per month for 12 months. I called to take advantage of it and was told that they only have 3 month promotions. I offered to forward the email which came from DIRECT TV and was told that they had no way of accepting emails. Typical Bait and Switch. I'm through with them as soon as my contract expires. Will use SLING for TV. Sick of these people!! read more

DO NOT GO WITH DIRECT TV OR AT & T INTERNET!!! I have gone through hell. I moved from one state to another and had to stay in a vacation home while trying to buy a home. Before I moved I was told by At&T and Direct TV to suspend my service for the time being since I had service at the vacation home and to take my equipment with me. Oh my god! Neither of the companies could handle it. I finally got my internet with AT&T in my new home after calling numerous times even though I had confirmation numbers and no one could find them! According to my notes which I felt necessary, I had called seven times to finally get the service! After calling DirectTV numerous time and finally one outsourced tech came and said we had to move everything out of the garage before they could go to the attic even though they had total access to the attic. Again had to contact DirectTV and told them what tech said and they were appalled? Really? After calling three other times to get service, I finally had someone to follow up. I told Direct TV when I called I wanted the dish to be on the ground and not on the roof. Oh no additional charges they said. Not true. Not only $75 additional charge but also since they had to run the lines down the wall an additional $150 would be charged. Please please do not make the same mistake we did! WARNING!!! read more

I have been a Direct TV customer for several years. Nearly 2 years ago I bought a 4K tv, contacted Direct Tv and had to change boxes and renew for 2 years to get 4K service. Turns out for the last 21 months we have not had 4K service. We were fraudulently told we did, and I was paying for that service. When confronted with this the Direct TV "Customer Service" supervisor saw no problem with that. She would not offer us any partial refunds, or allow us to terminate the contract in advance by 3 months before the current contract end. Clearly they don't care about their customers. read more
