Directv is quite possibly the worst company to ever send a single cent to, in the history of television service providers. It's absolutely amazing to me, that every month I call them with a NEW problem that need to be sorted out and find out the previous problems have still not been fixed. I have no idea what the fee is to terminate a contract with them, but it can't possibly be worth more than the headaches, services problems, service disconnection, program cancellations and upgrades (without consent), etc. please do yourself and your sanity a favor - if you're shopping for TV, do NOT go with directv. Yes, they have the NFL Sunday ticket which literally the only reason I got the service to begin with. But it's not worth it at all. The fact I HAD to add a single star frustrates me to the point of writing no review at all. But I want the public to know just how BAD the customer service truly is! I just got off the phone with the service the department. My bill went up this past month and I have been waiting for the day to cancel this rip off service. I wanted to strip down my service as much as possible to not give the AT&T's greedy little hands anymore money. The loyalty department gave me a $20 discount (but not starting until the next billing cycle) and said basically laughing..."well I guess it's not really worth it now is it, since you are cancelling". I can understand his point but it's in the way he said that translated basically meant, "well, since you are cancelling we are going to milk you for as much as you can because well, we can hold you hostage for the next month and few days." My roomate and I had directv but when moving to a new location the apartment complex doesn't allow satellite dishes to go up. We were forced to cancel service and incur a fee but we figured since they are part off the "AT&T Family" it should be an easy switch to AT&T Uverse, WRONG. I recently succumbed to the smooth sales tactics of one nice young man named Marquis Short for AT&T/Direct TV Service. Switching from Cox to AT&T was supposed to save $130/month. The Direct TV installer came to my home, put up the dish without confirming location with me, and if I did not have an electrician for a fiance', it would have been installed completely wrong. My fiance' climbed up and pulled the wires through the attic the other side of the house to avoid the Frankenstein wire look, and had to go back after he left to connect the wires or nothing would have worked. The technician also disconnected my phone and internet, so again, if I did not have my fiance' here, I would have been without internet and phone completely from Easter until now. Fast forward two months, and I am still waiting for the phone and internet to be connected - first time the installer said it was "too hard," second time was a no show with no call and no explanation - upon investigation they put my account on hold but no explanation. Third time, installer could not get here because he was backed up on the appointment before me. Fourth time, today, no show, no call. I cannot speak to any managers because the customer service is in the Phillippines and they have their script that they stick to. DON'T SWITCH! NOT WORTH IT! read more

I made a mistake switched from dish network to DirecTV .unfortunately a few months later my house burned down. I had called and canceled my direc TV to have it turn back on and 6 months .I did not rebuild my house so I called and canceled it they charge my account for 3 months and said that I used it when my house did not exist anymore .I have called .their customer service is awful they've told me they resolve this 4 times and they still have not resolved it. I switched from DISH network to DirecTV bundled with ATT. It's the biggest mistake I have made in a long time. It is cheaper than DISH but comes at a steep price in poor performance, poorer picture, cumbersome remote response, and drowning in commercial channels to the point it's difficult to find our usual channels we prefer to watch. We always record our programs and watch them at our convenience. The interface to find the recordings is clumsy and sometimes makes it impossible to find our recorded programs. Skipping through commercials on the recorded programs is slow, not the crisp quick response we were used to. We'll be looking at our options and try to go back to DISH. DIRECTV doesn't deserve one star. read more

Do not subscribe to NFL SundayTicket through Direct TV.There is a clause that exempts "local market games" from being available to all subscribers. What they don't tell you is that they consider any game shown on any local channel to be "local market" and so it is blacked out. If you have ABC, CBS, NBC, or Fox stations in your vicinity all games broadcast on those stations will be blacked out from your SundayTicket subscription.This is not the true definition of "local market games" but it's the definition Direct TV and the NFL presume to use in order to steal money from unwary customers. read more

DISASTER STORY YOU HAVE TO READ: TERRIBLE SERVICE ALL THE WAY AROUND AND NOW AT&T IS TRYING TO SCREW ME! I called to get Direct TV (DTV) service (former COX customer) and was talked into a bundle with them for Internet, phone (I-phone XR) with AT&T. I was set up with a new phone the same day and I scheduled an appt to install satellite TV and Internet (through Century Link ((CL))). The DTV tech came out and after 4 hours of trying, he was unable to run the coaxial cable up the wall and through the attic. The tech said he could run cables on the side of house and drill though the wall, I refused. It was getting dark so he said he would come back with help tomorrow, he never did. To assist them, I cut two holes in the garage interior drywall so the cable could be hand fed into the attic. When the tech didn't return, I called DTV asking when they were coming back out and they said the order was cancelled. I reschedule another appt. In the interim, Century Link sent a wireless modem (that I bought) and when I got a bill for the modem and partial months service (which I hadn't set up yet because DTV couldn't get the cable into the house and I thought they needed it), I was informed that CL needs a phone line to provide internet service. Well, the new house I moved into had all the phone lines removed so there is no way I could ever get internet unless I had a new phone service installed in the house, I refused. Therefore, I called AT&T to cancel "the bundle" of services we agreed to. As an aside, the AT&T service didn't work nearly as well as Verizon either, which was another reason to terminate. Fast forward to today, when I tried to port my phone number over to Verizon using the new AT&T phone, I discovered it was locked by AT&T and in order to be eligible for it to be unlocked, I needed to have 60 days of continuous service, and was not eligible for it to be unlocked. considering that I cancelled the service after 30 days, again because they couldn't install DTV or CL, and knowing I wasn't ever going to get internet and I had a phone service that didn't provide coverage in many places that I spend a lot of time, that was never going to happen. At this point, ATT is demanding that I pay $799 for a phone that they won't unlock, regardless of the fact that they were unable to deliver on 2/3rds of my original order, which was originally only for TV. After hours on the phone talking to different levels of management, they were unwilling to accept any responsibility or to assist me in anyway. Now I have a phone that I can't use or paid for, nor will I, until I can activate and use it on Verizon's network. I agreed to pay for the phone in full, along with the 1st months bill, if they would simply unlock the phone so I could confirm it would work on Verizon's network...they refused. Instead, they would prefer to try and force me to buy a phone I can't ever use, and chase me down for a payment they aren't going to get, ultimately sending me to collections to pay for the phone I can't use. I offered a compromise, having worked with a collections company before and said, I know that AT&T will have to give up 50% of whatever the collections company is able to recover from me so because you could provide all the services I ordered, but I made the decision to switch carriers, lets just agree that I pay 50% of the phones price AND send the phone back to them, let's just call that even, they refused!?! Without a doubt, this is the most p*ss poor customer service I have ever experienced and representative of nothing short of corporate greed with stupid policies and people that are unable to use common sense and make the right decision, at any level. This is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth! A quick comment on Century Link: When they found out that I didn't have any phone jacks in my house, they retroactively terminated my internet order, gave me a packing slip to return the modem I bought from them and said I'm not obligated to pay them anything. Kudos to CL for empowering there people to resolve issues by staff at the line level. Unlike AT&T who made me jump through multiple levels of management and was still unwilling tor unable to use their brain. TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE. I am writing this review on behalf of a family member who had an unbelievably horrific experience with Direct TV. After he canceled his service with them (because their customer service was awful and service was overpriced and unreliable), he realized Direct TV was continuing to charge him every month. He called to say he had canceled and wanted a refund for all of those months and they refused! They said he had renewed his contract and would have to continue to pay. He showed proof that he had canceled and they would not help him. The worst part is that because he was previously autopaying, Direct TV continued to take money directly from his bank account. After many failed attempts to get them to cancel his service, and their continual refuse, he had to literally CLOSE his bank account in order to prevent Direct TV from taking anymore of his money. read more

DirecTV is the absolute worst TV provider I've ever dealt with. They were terrible to begin with and after they were acquired by AT&T, they are absolutely horrendous to deal with. I was their customer for one year and was receiving services on 3 TVs. After cancellation, they're asking me to return three receivers. After calling them multiple times to tell them that I never received the final cancellation bill which supposed to be $120.00 and that I will have to mail in that final payment I get a automatic debit from my account for the amount of $127.50 and the 5 people that I spoke to was not able to help me because my account did show to be canceled.This is absolutely the worst experience I ever had with any TV provider. With out a doubt the biggest bunch of liars in this field. They promise you reduced rates for 2 years without any upcharges-BIG LIER at the end of 12 months they say that you agreed to bundle or lose the price guarantee. So my new bill went from $71.00 to $156.00 dollars unless I took an AT&T cell phone or their internet which only offers 25mps as opposed to the 100 mps that I currently receive from another provider. So after I bickered with them for 1 hiour they refused to honor the original deal and said it was part of the contract which I was never given a copy of and the sales rep lied to me from day 1 yet the stupidvisor said that they would penalize me if I quit I told him that by the end of the week they would be history he then offered a BS deal to give me a $25.00 a month discount for 12 months which would still cost me$125.00 a month for just TV service. I contacted Spectrum and they will pay my termination penaltyand provide me with TV,internet and phone for the price of Direct TV rip off charges just for TV service. All cable and TV service providers are full of BS, and it does suck that Cox / TimeWarner has such a monopoly in this area ... but trust me that DirecTv is the worst. I have nothing against this local address in particular, but the greater corporation is horrendous. Do the guys at Copley drive do their job well ... maybe, probably, but it doesn't matter either way. You shouldn't be subscribing to DirecTv at all. I have had too many horrendous experiences to list; but to give you a hint at one of them, I was on the phone for 1.5 hours, yes 90 minutes, to resolve an issue of $18, during which I was told by one "manager" that I would need a subpoena to further support my claim that the charge was erroneous. Att told me it would be free to install. Well, the installer comes and says he has to put holes and wire in my walls and across my carpets (had Dish network). They have something for $100 and won't have to put holes in the walls and wires across my carpet. They took my CC pmt. and I called to have charges removed, as I was told it would be free installation. They would not credit my acct. Anyways, the installer put in those Geni's and really tangled those wires behind the TV. I can't stand to see wires, so I've spent three hrs. trying to organise those wires. I have been with directv/AT&T for about 4 years now I moved into an apartment that would not allow me to bring my directv and I requested that they put my account on hold which they said they would do for 6 months collections are now calling me telling me that I owe $750 for equipment and breaking my contract. Disgusted with the customer service. At&t had a wire come off the telephone pole and dropped across our driveway. I thought it was an SDG&E line and called them; they immediately came out and said this is an old wire belonging to At&T. After several attempts to reach someone love, they assured me there would be no charge and someone would be out next day. 3 days later and another follow up they finally came. Then. I get a $99.00 charge on my bill for service call. When reaching out to their call center they tried to explain these things cost money to service and so need to help subsidize this. I said absolutely not. This isn't my wire and totally separate from our dish. She then offered $50.00 off. I stated this isn't a negotiation. 30 min on the phone and she finally acquiesced and is to credit bill. This is bush league customer service. I switched to direct TV from comcast and THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE! Direct TV has the worst customer service I have encountered in a very long time! It's like going back 20 years! To Direct TV customer service; It's not complicated, if someone has a concern, problem, etc. Fix it, that's all a consumer wants. STAY AWAY from directv! We were customers for 15 years and once they switched over to AT&T, they went downhill! Their customer service is terrible and they lie. If you deal with them make sure you write down the persons name and their ID#, so your conversation can partially be tracked. There were a few times we asked for this info and they would not give us their numbers or put us through to a manager to help resolve issues. They would tell me they were going to fix situations and help better the issues I was having and nothing would be fixed. I would call back and on their notes they would leave information out or not even put anything about the issue you were having so the next person you spoke to thought you were the liar! Ridiculous! Service is trash and way overpriced. Only got it so I could watch NFL and college basketball games. I have more issues than it's worth, every rain storm lose reception, etc. I pay for the NFL ticket...the claim you can watch every NFL game...I've already had 3 games this season that were not available. The claim watch every game is just to sucker you in. Called customer service today and the lady couldn't find my account after I gave her all my information and someone else could find it easily yesterday. They don't have any trouble billing my account. I was done messing around with this girl who can't speak English at all and asked to talk to someone else and she said she wouldn't put someone else on because she couldn't find my account. Not sure what is worse the customer service or the actual service, both are terrible. Not to mention they tell you that if you move you have to have someone come out and install the dish and equipment, the last time that I moved I didn't do it and did it myself, they only do this to charge you more. I would have to mirror the sentiment of the other reviewers. Customer service/planning have no idea what is going on. I set up an appointment to have DirectTV installed on three TVs, all HD. They were more than happy to set up the appointment and write up the bill for the HD-DVRs. Ok, so the guy shows up an hour late (even though the called me to say he would be late). Then he gets here and shows no interest in getting the install done, saying he doesn't see a place for the dish and that he can't put it on tile (like what % of homes in San Diego have tile roofs - I'm assuming a lot). So we climb up on our roof, first step he takes he breaks a tile. I finally find a spot for him to install (wait is it my job to find a suitable spot for this?). He then complains because his ladder may not reach. Then we head into the garage where all the cables are so he can inspect. First thing he says is "Oh these cables won't work", they are too old. That is fine, but why the hell didn't they tell me this on the phone that my house had to have a certain rating for the wiring. I mean how many homes built prior to 1990 have cable suitable for their service? So he says the only other way would be to drill through the house, but he can only do exterior walls and doesn't fish through walls. Well, that didn't help at all either since two of my TVs were on interior walls. I mean, jeez, am I the only one that has a house built in the 80's that doesn't mount their TV to an exterior wall? anyway, needless to say, i cancelled the service, which at this point now that i think of it must be a blessing in disguise. If my first encounter with DirectTV was that bad, how likely would it be to get better when I needed service from them? read more

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Do yourself a favor and go with any other cable company. When I first signed up I was told my bill would be 60 dollars. It is really 120 dollars and when I try and change my plan to the lower price they won't do it because I am stuck for 2 years and to top it off the cable box disconnects from the internet constantly. When this happens it doesn't record my shows. When I call for a new box they tell me it's my internet and can't do anything. I had my internet checked by a technician and it is fine. Everything else connects no problem. Only problem is the DirectTv box. I called and told them and they just gave me the run around and will not fix it.
