The only reason I would give them any stars at all is because I get service when it's not raining. I signed up with the understanding I would be getting my service for 35$ a month. I have been with them for 14 months now and have never paid 35$. I have on the other hand paid 55$, 80$ and now an impressive 109$. Three rate jumps in little over a year for the same exact service. That's impressive! In the beginning I would call them all the time to complain, about my high bills but in the end gave up realizing it was a waste of time since no one ever did anything about it. They were just interested in trying to sell me more things I never wanted in the first place. I would really like to break my contract but I refuse to pay the outrageous cancellation fee. This company is the worst. I was on a contract for 2 years. Every month the amount taken out of my account was different. I never was provided a bill! All I had to go on was the amount deducted from my bank. When I would call in and question the amount they would make adjustments but never explained why the excess in charges. After 12 months of babysitting my bill I canceled my service in June and sent back all the equipment. In August I received a check for 71.40 refund. On August 15 they took 211.42 out of my account. I called and they said I never canceled automatic payment?? Which I most certainly did and told them to bill me if there was a balance. Stay away from DIRECTV!!! I signed up for DIRECTV service a year ago. At the time I was told I would get certain discounts for 2 years. Well, two months ago I receive a bill that was $140. My bill was supposed to be $87.15, so I called to find out why my bill increased so much. I have never paid late or missed a payment. I spoke with a lady that told me it was a mistake made by DIRECTV. She explained that discounts I was supposed to get for 2 years ended a year early. She told me she would fix the problem and told me to pay the $87.15, which I did. Well, last month I get my bill and it was $198! I was completely shocked. Nothing had been fixed and now I am being told I'm past due. Well, I call DIRECTV again and I speak with a lady who said her name was Jerome. I explain to her what I was told the first time I called and then I asked her to speak with her boss because I didn't want to deal with another customer rep that will tell me she'll fix it and then not fix it. She must have not wanted me to speak with her boss so she hung up on me! Needless to say I was a little angry. I called back. This time I get in touch with another lady who transferred me to someone who said she was the manager. She told me she'd fix the problem, so I decided to trust her. Bad mistake. I pay all my bills on the first day of each month. Well, when I try to pay my DIRECTV bill I discovered that nothing had been fixed. I was still being billed $198 and was being told that if I didn't pay I would lose service. I called yet again. This time I spoke to a lady that told me that even though the mistake was DIRECTV's fault she couldn't go into the system and fix the problem. She told me that the problem couldn't be fixed. Likely story. She told me that she could take away channels to lower my bill but that was all. I asked her why I had been told by two different people that the problem would be fixed and she said she didn't know why and that maybe the employees should be trained better. The unfair price increase isn't the only problem I had with DIRECTV. The first remote control they gave me when I first signed up only worked a couple of days before I had to get a new remote control. About half of the time the DVR would not respond to the remote control. Sometimes the DVR would just freeze and we would have to wait several minutes for it to become responsive again. My recommendation to everyone is to stay away from DIRECTV. I just switched to Xfinity because of DIRECTV's lousy customer service and because their DVR only works about half of the time. read more

To all the people out there looking for services DO NOT GO GETTING Direct TV!!! They have false advertisement and lie about the contact/agreement!! So be careful because I've been struggling to get someone on the phone to help me take care of my account. For example this is what I'm dealing with them about my account. I had there service for less than 14 days because I didn't like it so I returned their equipment within 14 days because on the agreement it states that if I don't go over 14 days and cancel my service, I will Not be responsible for an early cancellation fee. I tried their service for 10 days and was not happy about it and returned it before the deadline. Then I find out that I'm being billed and sent to collections for early termination fee of $441.02 SMH. I have been calling Direct Tv to speak to a supervisor or manager after speaking to four representatives (Tissany, Mark, Karla and Juan) and unsuccessfully NO one has helping me with my account!! Can I put ZERO stars?!?!?! I have never dealt with worse customer service in my life!!! I have had Directv for 6-7 years and was quite happy. Now that AT&T has gotten involved I have not had service at all for a month now. I have spent countless hours on the phone with them. Just yesterday I was on the phone with them for 2 hours and 45 minutes, transferred to 9 different people, was told a supervisor would call me back and nothing. I have had to stream my tv this month since they have not provided me with service and now I have internet overage charges which they won't credit me for. I had to take a day off work for a technician to come out who still could not get my service turned back on. I am on the phone yet again (39 minutes on hold and counting.....) trying to get a supervisor to set up something. He then had to leave and go get parts and did not return until hours later and didn't even call to say he was on the way back (as promised). Doug then went on to still fail to install my service and had to leave to go to Las Vegas. He said he would be back on Tuesday to complete his lackluster install. But guess what? I called to reduced my bill. I was offered a $40 reduction for being a legacy customer. Been with them at least 35 years. The only online options are for increasing packages and cost. No online option for reducing service/cost or cancelling service. You have to call. New customers get immediate answering, cancelling customers have to wait, wait, wait. After 2.5 hours of trying to get an offered $40 reduction for legacy customers, I got a phone call to verify that I actually wanted the reduction. After 30 minutes on hold I was disconnected. I'm at 2.5 hours now dealing with this. I call back and they want to start over again with the discount conversation. At this point I am angry and just want to cancel this (recently) dishonest company. I have to fight to get past the discount offers and cancel. They seem to use trick tactics to keep you paying. I hope my cancellation will stick but I'm not holding my breath. Customer service and support has gone down the drain since AT&T took over. Had two HD receivers go down, took three weeks for them to send replacements after a dozen calls and when I finally got them I spent three hours on the phone with tech support to initialize them they couldn't. They told me to call the following day since their "system" was down. Well this has been going on for days and they refuse to send anybody out since their "system" is down. Well everyday I call they just tell me to call back or you are put on hold for hours on end switching you to either the Spanish speaking tech support or the French tech support never the English speaking support. Horrible avoid at all cost!! The WORST customer service ever! Avoid direct tv at ALL cost! We have had the service for a total of 7 days! We have had U-verse for 4 days which it ended up not working in our area, but ill get back to that later..... They are the worst at customer service! I was on the phone for over an hour and spoke to 4 people!! The service has not worked well and gone out several times. The tech had problems installing the dish and said it may not work, but that we had 30 days. He was here for like 6 hours and multiple holes later we had bad service. Even though it went out and we had to watch dvds, we decided to wait to see how the internet did. It was installed 4 days later. The internet did not work well in our area either and even though it showed connected we never actually got a page to load. So, since we bundled everything to save money we decided to cancel since the internet didn't work and the cable said searching for satellite half the time anyway. After, a painful hour of rude direct tv service reps we still have the issue unresolved. They want to charge us $450 fee for disconnecting services that never worked or didn't work well. They said we have 24 hours to cancel! Thats it!?! Clearly, they have ZERO faith in their system as 24 hours is a nothing warranty. I have been with Directv for 8+ years and my Bill has always increased. I've never received a promotion or appreciation discount and I've never complained. Over the past 2 weeks we have been without service and have had to deal with customer service being not helpful at all. We called in to agents who had no knowledge or experience to help us with our problem, only to put us on hold for a technician that took forever to answer the phone. When we finally got through two hours later being on hold, the technician could not assist us as well. I called to cancel service only to NOW be offered a discount of $70...I pay $270/month! I got YouTubeTV for $70, no thank you Directv. Not only that, the technician said she would cancel our service on March 21, today is March 7. That means that we have not had service for the past two weeks and will not for the next two weeks but will still have to pay that bill. DIRECTV is a total ripoff!! Do not, I repeat, do not sign up with DIRECTV. If I could give a negative rating, I would. They will sell you a bunch of lies to rope you into a contract you cannot get out of without paying out the nose. I was told the dish was small enough to fit into a flower box...lie #1. I was told the package I purchased is compatible to the package I had with Cablevision...lie #2, I do not get half the channels I had in my package and if I want them I have to pay for them. I was told they would cancel my previous service for me...lie #3. I was told they would set up my account with Verizon for my internet service...lie #4. Not only did I have to call Verizon and set it up myself, I had to install the equipment myself which I assumed would have been done the same day as the DIRECTV install. I was told that the dish service was improved because they now work off of 3 satellites so if one went out I would not be affected because I have 2 more to work off of...lie #5. I've had DIRECTV for less than a month and already my service is out. Have to wait practically an entire day for a technician to come for a repair. Do you know what that means to a retired old man sitting at home with no TV?! I called to cancel my service and asked if I could get the fee waived or at the most reduced because like I stated it's been less than a month! I was told in no uncertain terms that they could not do either. It would cost me $460 to cancel my service. Switching from Cablevision to DIRECTV was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I just called to get some information and they really seem to have crappy customer service. The representative was abrupt and rude when I tried to get some specific information. 1) Is there a specific time to evaluation the product without a financial commitment. The best I can tell in NO. Your are responsible for 20.00 per month for each month of the unfulfilled contract or $480.00 plus Tax. 2) Keep in mind that your commitment period is 24 months but the special is for 12 months. The "XTRA 220+ ch $34.99/mo" then the next 12 months is Reg. Price $81.99/mo That is kind of steep $47.00 more per month plus taxes or $564.00 per year plus taxes ADDITIONAL CHARGE. 3) They don't have any internet. You have to package with some other provider in your area at an additional cost. 4) Direct TV Boost 99.99 percent up time. That has nothing to do with individual problems you may have in your area. They won't give that information. I have a few customers that are happy and a few that are absolutely miserable with the service. Either way if you value your time this may be a reason. I don't want to spend time on the phone. 5) I spent the better part of an hour on the phone trying to get this information. I found Direct TV overall to be rude and not forthcoming with any real help. I had to ask the question to get to the bottom of what my actual cost would be. When I asked if there was a free look they were argumentative with me. This is before I signed up imagine what the service will be like when they can screw with my credit if I cancel and break my contract. I'd call to inquire; they'd remove something I hadn't requested; maybe drop it $10; but then it would go up again; repeat until I was paying $121.09; more than triple what I was promised. Then they gave me a 10 buck discount, so $111.09. Shortly after my 24 month contract was over, I canceled. Then the phone calls start trying to get me to come back. How can I make it right? We ordered DIRECTV after moving into our new home more than a year ago. From the beginning we have had trouble with bait and switch tactics, undisclosed fees, fake gift card offers that never show up, intentionally confusing rate plans, vaguely described discounts/credits etc.. At one point my bill increased more than $60 per month (we have no premium channels in our TV service) after an undisclosed "credit" expired. I have had several phone calls and chat conversations, spent hours explaining my situation only to be transferred to the "appropriate person" then rerouted back into the original automated loop, requiring to start the story all over again with a new person. Using tactics like putting me on indefinite hold while "researching my issue" or flat out disconnecting the call after telling me they are escalating me to a person who can help me. Absolutely, hands down, the worst customer service experience I have received in my entire life. AT&T was a reputable company. We have been loyal cell phone customers since the beginning but the practices being used for DirecTV are nothing short of shady and unethical. However, when you have specific channels you've been watching for several years and then all of a sudden they get taken away and they want to now say they're going to charge you extra for it?? WTF. That's totally unacceptable. Then I returned a box since I didn't need it anymore (3 TVs then you only need 3 boxes not 4). They tell you to just "drop it off at the UPS store with your account number" and then later they want to say they never got it and to just call the UPS store but then UPS tells you they don't keep records of it without the receipt. Like fuck off DirecTV you need to work that out with the UPS store. It's a fucking scam. Now they want to say we've never gotten your box from the UPS so you have to pay a big fee. Bullshit. That box is super old and probably outdated so why should I have to pay for it when I did what you told me to fucking do. FUCK DIRECTV. DON'T GET IT. I canceled my services, returned equipment, but am still being required to pay for the 22 days I did not have access to my account because AT&T pre-bills. When I called to complain, it was explained that it's what AT&T does and there is no way for them to pro rate the bill, so even though I didn't have any access nor any equipment to watch what I was charged for, I'm still being charged and expected to pay for services that I did NOT have any means to access. I was watching the Stanley Cup Finals- the screen froze and I waited for the system to continue. It never did! I reset the system and found out the game was over! I pay more for my television then my car payment. I don't have an expensive car, however my car never stalls or hesitates. It doesn't give me trouble at all. After several long session on the phone with them I finally got them to remove the "free" promotion and reverse the charges. In the meanwhile I continued to pay my usual bill. Then they charged me a late fee for not paying the "free" promotion part on time.
