I was a long time patient of Dr. Talwar's years ago at a different practice for a work related injury of my spine. Loved him! To this day, I still recommend him to anyone I meet that is in need of a spine surgeon. He is super funny, kind, smart, has excellent bedside manner and is incredibly talented in his field. He cares about his patients. Truly, I can't imagine how anyone could think otherwise. I was too young for spine surgery then (20s) but he still took my concerns seriously. He went above and beyond to find the cause of my pain, while also referring me out for treatments and second opinions. They gave me the wrong papers to fill out first of all I had asked him before I had got there. Did I have any papers to fill out and they told me no. Then when I get there, it's a bunch of papers to fill out I was a new patient not an existing patient Waited an hour to get in. Then when I get in Dr was very short with me only there for like two minutes the place I guess didn't send over the imaging but it seems like they would've found all that out before I got there I don't wanna go back, I don't feel like I got good care. I had actually been there before in 2020 they told me at least then he took x-rays this time he did nothing I was sent to find out if I needed surgery because the injections are no longer working, but he make it seem like nothing is wrong with me. read more

This review has been a long time coming. Looking at some of these recent reviews I should have posted this few years earlier. Could have spared others the pain and suffering I've had to deal with. My ALIF surgery took place in July '16. Two-level fusion. Was supposed to be anterior Monday, posterior Tuesday. 2-3 days convalesce. Home by Friday. To make a very long story short, the nerve roots at L-4 / L-5 were literally crushed when the hardware was placed on Day 1. Following day surgery took place as scheduled. Morning of the 3rd day, Dr. Rovner came into my room. I was still nursing the effects of pain meds and anesthesia. He picked up my left foot, asked me to move it. This was the first time we both realized that my left foot "dropped" and was numb. Same of the right side; however that foot had not dropped. He was totally unaware of how and when my injury took place. Imagine that. You wake up with a foot lacking dorsiflexion. Revision surgery took place 6 days later around 9 pm on a Monday night. Not first surgery of the day as priority would require, but last surgery of the day. Long surgery into the night and early next morning. Complications due to a bowel condition caused by more incompetence. Net was lost a lot of blood, required a transfusion and was in serious condition when I was returned to my room around 4 am. I remained in the hospital for 2 more weeks dealing with other complications and finally came home almost 3 weeks after the first surgery. Much more to this story but I'll stop here. I was left with a permanent disability (nerve damage / drop foot) from knee down left side. And nerve damage knee down right side. Months went by with Dr. Rovner continuing to tell me this was a temporary condition and would resolve. Every month for almost 10 months when I arranged for a Nerve Conduction Study (on my initiative, not Dr's) revealing permanent damage. Surgeon's make mistakes. I understand. This surgeon was a friend and golf buddy. I expected better care. Had he known the hardware was improperly placed on the nerve root (diameter of a pencil) before he closed on the first day, he could have removed that hardware and the injured nerve would have been able to repair itself without permanent damage. I've worked HARD to rehab myself in the gym, the pool and treadmill. No thanks to Dr. Rovner who only gave me prescription for PT when I asked for it. Other great Doctors have helped me along the way; Dr. K. Sachdeva, Dr. N. Malani, Dr. H. Sokoloff (deceased) and Dr. P. Yee. I probably wouldn't be on my feet were it not for the efforts of Dr. Sokoloff I have had a number of complications arising since affecting my balance. Also diagnosed with PTSD. But I'm still working hard. Still playing golf (have to wear an AFO / brace) for all physical activity. All of my physical activities have been hampered. Can't even kick the soccer ball around with my Grandchildren. Needless to say I rate this practice 1 star. I'd rate them a ZERO if I could. Incompetence compounded by more incompetence. I would recommend this place a million times. I came here for a work comp claim and they have the friendliest front desk. Everyone is so nice. Dr. Rovner is extremely thorough. I went to Dr Talwar after visiting Dr. Tseng from Webster Orthopedics and having a miserable experience where Dr. Tseng snickered at my problem (herniated disc causing horrible leg pain) and told me he could do anything for me. Dr. Talwar gave me the pain meds I needed to survive temporarily and referred me for an Epidural which dramatically improved my state, got me completely off pain meds, and is continuing to work with me to resolve my issues. I appreciate his time and would trust him to do surgery if it is needed. read more

Disc and Spine has a very nice fish tank in their lobby. But I suppose you need to weight that against the outcome of the back surgery performed by Dr. Talwar (a doctor at Disc and Spine -- both at same location) which didn't go as planned. The rods somehow detach from their holders. Detached rods jabbing in your back doesn't hurt at all, right? Strongly recommend going elsewhere. See xray posted. The staff are friendly and so are the Doctors. Would be nice to get more than 5 minutes with a Doctor and more than 15 min with appt. Speak slower & allow more questions to be asked. Response via email is nil as I've sent 3 separate emails that still have not been replied to and it's been over 2 weeks since the first one was sent. This place was recommended saying Doctor is great. Surgery successful to far, follow up would be much better if Staff & Doctors were quicker on responding to questions. read more

I have been dealing with a ton of issues with my back since February of this year and unfortunately the doctor who did my spinal fusion moved his practice out of state. Not only did my doctor move his practice, but I have Covered Ca insurance and I cannot find any Dr who takes my insurance! Even though Dr. Talwar didn't accept my insurance he still found a way to give me his professional opinion regarding my CT scans- he was so helpful and I will be changing my insurance during open enrollment so he can become my doctor. I saw the doctor here initially to request physical therapy for my neck. He said after I did pt for my neck if it was still bothering me I could get an mri. After doing the pt if it was bothering me I could call into the office and he would put the mri order in. So I finished the pt (24sessions) and called the office , going against what doctor previously told me , they told me I would have to come in again to see the doctor before they could put the mri order in. Next I made an appointment and arrived on time. When I arrived the lady at the desk told me "were running late today , did you get the message ?", I said no, no one contacted me. She then told me to wait a half hour , and one hour and a half later I told them i was leaving. I never got any acknowledgement or apology. On the next appointment , I went to see the doctor for my neck , which I had already completed the max amount of therapy sessions for on the same doctors recommendation. I told the doctor I wanted to have an mri of my neck. He quickly jotted some messy notes that I had been on painkillers and done therapy sessions so he could put in the request to the insurance for the mri. A week later I heard my mri was denied from the insurance , they stated in their letter that I needed to do physical therapy and take pain killers before I would qualify for an mri , it was clear the doctor / medical assistant had not included in the request what I had told them that I had done so far for my neck in the past year previous to requesting an mri . I called the office and told them about the denial of the mri and i never got a response back from the office. Due to a lack of attention to detail and the patient overall , I cannot recommend this physican / office . read more

Dr. Talwar is kind, compassionate, friendly, understanding, and empathetic...Until he's not. Two years ago my husband was referred to Disc and Spine because he was having issues after having a revision 6 months prior. Dr. Talwar felt like a god send. He really listened and cared about helping my husband with his back. After an MRI was done it was determined he needed another revision because he had another herniated disc. Long story long he had the surgery felt better for a couples months and then the pain started becoming aggressive out of nowhere. After a second MRI it was determined he had a compressed nerve on top of another two herniated discs and he ended up going into the ER for emergency surgery with Dr. Talwar again. Time passed and again a couple months of feeling okay and then pain just started becoming unbearable again. After the first two surgeries my husband entered into pain management to do physical therapy and obviously try to manage his pain. Long story even longer he got another MRI went back to Dr. Talwar and was greeted with "didn't we already do a fusion on you?" this was the first time I ever felt concern because it seemed like maybe that should of been done after the first failed revision but alas theres trust and a relationship there and he always seemed to have my husbands best interest at heart..now lets get to 10/27/21 my husband had a two level fusion and stayed in the hospital for about a week.All seems like its going to get better and like this fusion would fix all his problems it didn't but thats not the Dr's fault its really not. So let me get into why I gave a 1 Star review. Due to my husband having 4 surgeries within two years he had to start applying for disability and get on medi-cal. Dr. Talwar doesn't take medi-cal and made sure he told us he didn't want to which is also fine. What is not fine is my husband being transparent about pain level's and his situation and Dr. Talwar after only being 7 months post op deciding to refuse to prescribe him medication any longer. Now let me clarify this.. at his 6 month post op appointment his back wasn't fully fused. In March we explained to Talwar that we couldn't afford cobra any longer but would self pay for our appointments until my husband was able to get into pain management. Both of us were told that he would see hm through until he got into pain management. Now my husband has been waiting for a referral through medi-cal since March and just this month on 5/9 did a Dr reach out to him and schedule for June 21st. Please keep in mind for the last 2 years he's had 4 surgeries with Dr. Talwar and for the most part has seen him more than any other Dr! So this month even after explaining doing every single thing we can on our side we schedule a phone appointment for his refill and when I tell you Dr. Talwar was so disrespectful. I was taken aback at the 1 minute conversation of him telling me not even my husband "Alexa, I'm not going to prescribe him any more pain med's i'm done, i'm done i'm done." the only words that came out of my mouth were hello. This Dr has been prescribing him 150 15MG Oxycodone for 6 freaking months knowing he can't even get into his first pain management appointment until June 21st. I get it he's not a pain management Dr but you have to take some responsibility especially after saying there's safe ways to come down on opioids. He literally sat in his office at the 6 month post op appointment and discussed why it was so important for him to get into pain management so he can start the process of weening down SAFELY. Dr. Talwar does not care about safety. Dr. Talwar does not care about anyone's time. Dr. Talwar does not care about the $122 we pay for every 3 hour late 2 minute phone appointment we pay out of pocket for. Dr. Talwar does not care that my husbands back still isn't even fused. Dr. Talwar does not care that my husband has alway's been honest. Dr. Talwar does not care that he has put him at risk by not seeing him through to his pain management. read more

I would Highly recommend Dr. Rovner and Dr. Talwar and his entire staff for your neck, back, spine issues. I had a surgery on my neck prior to seeing these gentlemen that literally traumatized me during and after. I was having major post op difficulties. The problem was identified in quick order by Dr Rovner and confirmed by Dr Talwar. They also knew the solution and they went the extra mile to get my surgery scheduled in ASAP. I am a father of four and I was so scared my "active " life had come to an end. These two gentlemen have given me hope to return to the active life I have lived. A great gift. Highly recommend to anyone. I am shell shocked at the negative reviews. I have a feeling there is more to the story in those cases as the entire staff is more than professional and accommodating. Heads up to the negative reviewers that there are more people in the world than just you. They are doctors and due to unforeseen circumstances they might be behind in their schedule. That is no reason to leave a scathing review. People ignore the negatives these guys are great!!!! read more

My first appointment, I waited probably 30 mins. The waiting room was heavily backed up that day. My second appointment, I arrived to an empty waiting room (score!) just to find out that Dr. Talwar was still at his other location in Fremont and would be verrrry late. My question: Why didn't someone courtesy call me before I took the time off work? I only needed a form signed for physical therapy, but if I leave it for him I would pay a fee. So, he could be incredibly late, thus wasting my time, but if I waste his time by making him sign his name to a piece of paper, I'm charged a fee. How is that fair? I just gave up and went to a different doc. Dr. Talwar's assistant called me a week later to schedule an appointment and I told her that I already saw someone else. 2 days later I get an automated reminder about my appointment. It's laughable and annoying when the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. read more
