The pick-up/drop-off from/to the airport was efficient and convenient. They have very competitive rates. The charges were clear from the beginning. They also explained very well what additional charges there might be (i.e damaged/lost electronic keys, damaged tire / sand removal / interior getting wet due to rain). Outstanding experience with Discount. My family and I rented two Wranglers from here in Sep 2021 and drove them all over STT and STJ. They were one of only a few places that a) had 4x4 vehicles to begin with and b) let you take them on the ferry between islands. Check in was a breeze and returning was even faster. They pick you up and drop you off in the vehicle you'll be using so you don't have to worry about the airport at all. The vehicles were in excellent condition. And customer service was top notch. We ended up getting into a minor car accident on our way back to the airport (not our driver's fault!) and in the midst of trying to see who the guy was who drove off and while calling the police, he managed to call the office and get us a back up ride to the airport! Cannot recommend them enough if you're going to be in the VI for longer than a couple days. read more

When we got to the airport, they sent Dennis to pick us up. He got there, told me to put the bags in the back of the car myself, then got frustrated with me and helped when I didn't fit them all in immediately. We were given the Jeep Wrangler we were quoted, it was noted that the tire pressure alarm light was on, and I was informed that it was broken. After driving to Drake's seat on day 2, we got in the car to find that the power steering was completely inoperable. We almost crashed twice just backing the car out of the parking lot and realizing what was going on. We pulled over and called discount. It was 4:30 and they said to us point blank that they were closing at 5:00 and we could either drive the car back to them ourselves now or we could just deal with it until tomorrow when they reopened. That's it, no apologies or any other help. Mind you we are at a lookout point miles from everything and I'm with my children and wife. So this was one of the scariest fucking moments of my life as I realized that I had to now drive this massive Jeep Wrangler downhill with my entire family through the shitty horrible roads of St Thomas which are also incredibly curvy and narrow with no power steering whether or not I wanted to keep this car or return it. And I had to do it in the next 25 minutes... thank you God that I work out. I got the car there at 4:55... they pointed to another car, dirty and clearly not washed and older, gave me the keys, and said I could take it, that's it. I pointed out that it was not clean and that it was not nice and asked for a different one and they told me no unless I wanted to come back the next day. We got in and realized that beyond dirty, the radio didn't work. We pointed this out and instead of saying an apology or offering a different car, one of the people got into the car muttering under his breath that I was stupid and started jabbing at the radio as though we were idiots and had no idea how to work a fucking car radio. Clearly his wizardry did shit, and again i was told I could simply come back tomorrow if I wanted to trade but they would NOT do it today because it was 5pm... This is in a yard full of jeeps. So we go back now with our 2nd Jeep. On day 2,, we rush down to the car en route to make the ferry to St john to find that the front right tire is completely flat. Upon further inspection, I realize that all of the tires are missed their valve caps, are completely bald and old and totally unsafe and should have been replaced on anyone's car, let alone a rental. So I called them and they point blank told me again, tires are your problem, I told them they were crazy and they needed to come fix this tire immediately and that the tires on the car were totally unsafe in general. I pointed out that this was the 2nd car we had had true safety issues with and that we had wasted a ton of time with them already. The manager got on the line and told me she would give me a call back and hung up on me. Oh boy. So I wait 20 minutes and calles back and they inform me that someone is already on the way... Dennis and another friend, who pull up... Grumble... Tell me that I can take the car THEY just drove up in and that they would change the flat and take the car that we had had. I went upstairs for 10 minutes, & came back down to find that they had already changed the flat tire and had ALSO left me an angry voicemail about taking too long ("COME ON! {click}), and then they drove off and left me with a third Jeep Wrangler after impatiently waiting for me to retrieve the keys from the car myself. This 3rd Jeep Wrangler had an incredibly bad BO smell, had over 29,000 miles on it, had an outdated registration (which also means it was past inspection), but the radio worked and the tires had air in them, albeit again, the tire pressure gauge on this car was ALSO broken and on constantly. We dealt with this third car the rest of the week and had to keep the top off and the windows down the entire time to deal with the smell. Seats also had some weird stains. When we returned this last car on our way to the airport I was told I would get a one day discount, then they fully inspected the car, and then I walked out paying $90 less. WAS NOT WORTH IT. No apologies at any point. No smiles. Then here comes Dennis again... he pulls up with a white couple, carefully backs up the jeep he drove them in to another jeep, moves their bags from one car to the other for them and then happily jokes, smiles, and gives them their keys so they can leave. He then makes us wait while he brings his lunch inside and then drives us to the airport and impatiently gets the bags out and complains that we're not helping him. I give him $10 and he leaves. God bless... but those cars were incredibly unsafe and the service was rude specifically to us. ESPECIALLY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE WE CHOSE THIS PLACE BECAUSE IT'S BLACK-OWNED AND LOCAL. read more

We had a great experience with Discount Car Rental during a recent visit to St. Thomas! We rented a Jeep for 9-days. When we arrived at the airport, we called them to let them know. They were there to pick us up in the Jeep in under 10-minutes. The vehicle was spotlessly clean and they did a good job of noting all the nicks and dings so there wouldn't be any question when we returned it at the end of the week. Be sure to take advantage of a Yelp check-in offer and get a complimentary GPS! It came in handy as our cell phones didn't work in some spots on the island. We returned the Jeep pretty sandy but they didn't seem to mind. They just ask you to sweep as much sand off the seats as possible. Whoever they have cleaning the cars between rentals does awesome work! We also appreciated being able to take the Jeep to St. John. It was fun to take the front part of the roof off, but they cautioned us not to take the back part off. (Huge fine.) Many of the roads are rough, steep, etc. and the Jeep handled it all well. If you value you and your family's lives do not rent from this place. Look on here and Google and you will see that they poorly manage their Jeeps and will put you on the road with bald tires. You are also accountable to change and pay for your own tire replacement if they go flat or burst. If you decide to rent from this place anyways, be sure to check out all the tires and have them change the tires or change your vehicle before you leave (although they refuse to change vehicles for you even their lot is full). I rented from this place in 09/2021 for 5 days. It was an awful experience. The Jeep they provided me had 2 bald tires in the front and took them another 1.5 hours to exchange the tires. They kept the a bald tire in the back for replacement and refused to change that one. The check engine light came on and they refused my request to exchange for a safer vehicle. Alex, the boss is incredibly rude and will not hold any conversation with you. He will simply make a condescending remark about flaws in the vehicle you point out, refuse a refund, then go into his office. The women in the front office are really nice and understanding. However, everyone else there is just plain rude. They pout and grumble if you ask for any reasonable changes for a safer trip. If you happen to be booked with them already and have a good credit card company, you may be able to cancel your reservation and then get refunded by the credit care company. Here's our experience.... We arrived as scheduled, but we were picked up 1/2 late from a "5 minute away" rental location. When I called to request a description of our pick- up driver and his car I was rudely hung up on without any idea of who would be getting us!!! Upon arrive to the rental location, and on our own inspection of our rental, we realized the front (2) two tires were completely bald!!!!! No bueno, with two kids in tow and a $700 dollar fee be responsible for. In expressing my disappointment, accommodations were made to have both tires changed, Though I was grateful, should have this not been attendant to prior???? When I expressed my dismay, I WAS THREATENED!!!!! Quote!!! "I think it's best we cancel your rental, you can go somewhere else!" DADS AND MOMS with your kids in tow, in a foreign land, without an alternative transport!!!!! PLEASE BE LEARY!!!! Anyone willing to put any family in such a predicament and not willing to see their own fault--charging $700 rental fee, while threateningly making children wait outside an air conditioned office in 100 degree heat after a long flight and no alternative. Even on my worst day I would not threaten to leave any family stranded. I didn't argue, or complain, I gave her--the owner--her win. She laughed, she made jokes with her staff OPENLY!!!! Great experience here renting a jeep for a week! Definitely would rent from Discount again. We called from the airport and they picked us up in the vehicle and took us to their off airport location to complete the paperwork. No problems all week with the jeep. Reverse process on way back - went to their office, completed paperwork and they took up back to airport in same vehicle. Take care when doing the initial vehicle inspection to clearly note all the dings, dents and scratches that exist on vehicle on the paperwork. The roads on the islands are very narrow and steep and lot of foliage on the shoulders, so most cars have existing scratches and minor dings. Went back home and rented a car for the first time. Process was straight forward overall. I'm giving three stars for three specific reasons. One, they waited until I was traveling to finalize the details. I don't fully hold this agains them as I had to travel a day early so I could arrive on the day I would pick up the rental, but they reached out several times just to get everything sorted and even sent a final email asking for more, then ended up calling me in addition to that. I want clear on when the process would end. It also gave me a small amount of concern of whether I would have a rental. Second, the processing for payment is tedious. They put a hold, dropped it, put another hold, dropped that, then as I was leaving with my final payment, it is now two days later and I still haven't seen that payment processed. I was not explained much in the way of how it worked or given even the slightest breakdown. I'll take that lost as my fairly to inquire, but I will call by tomorrow if the charge isn't applied. Lastly, the ROACHES! The 4 door Jeep Wrangler was infested. I ended up bringing some of them to the beach with me which was unsettling. What's more, I was staying with my very clean Aunt and had to go through an extra step of making sure none of the critters in the car made it into her house. The individuals were kind, but I cannot went here again with our attention to some of these issues. More specifically that last one. read more

Rented an SUV for our family and rented car seats from a local named Daphne who rents baby supplies as Discount could not guarantee they would have car seats available. We waited 40min for them to pick us up from the airport and when we finally got in the car the gas tank was almost on empty and the backup camera did not work. They said to just return the car with an empty tank, but to me it's unprofessional to rent a car with almost no gas so you have to immediately stop (and us with 2 toddlers who spent all day traveling). Also they had us send them insurance and drivers license info in the weeks leading up to our trip but waited to tell us until we picked up the car that they require that you sign a waiver saying if you hit a pothole, you're financially responsible for any damages to the tire or wheel. read more

My wife and I rented a 2door Jeep for our week long stay. The Jeep was fairly new and very clean! The staff was very friendly and it was a hassle free transaction. We were very conscientious about tracking sand into the Jeep. No hidden fees and no clean up fee added on at the end! This will be the only place we rent a vehicle from on future trips! I emailed Discount Car Rental and asked for a quote. They provided one within a day or so that was good for seven days. I'm 3 hours behind (PST) so when I called them to schedule, they were closed so I left a message. I waited several days but didn't get a call back. I called them during their business hours and was quoted a different price than what was in the email they sent. I referred the woman back to the email they sent me with the pricing and she just kept repeating that this was "a copy and paste" and that it was an error. I told her that they provided me with this pricing so they should uphold it and she wouldn't. Unfortunately, I decided to make several last minute changes to my trip to St. John. I emailed the ladies @ Discount, and they were able to accommodate my request for (2) 4-door jeeps less than a week before arrival. I tried several rental companies in St. Thomas. The best I could get was 2 Toyota Corrolas. After arriving at our VRBO in St. John, our driveway had a very steep incline, and many large rocks to drive over. Toyota Corrolas would never have made it up the driveway, let alone most of the island. Their pricing was even better than the other guys, so Great Job Discount. Where do I start? Rented a jeep here for the reasonable prices and because my family was staying out on route 37 in a remote area. Very steep hills and unpaved roads. Everything was ok until the day before we left. I was parked in front of a mini mart, and when I put the car in reverse there was a horrible noise and the car just stopped. A 2015, broken down jeep. It was 5:30, Discount has no emergency number, so I left a message about the issue and we walked a mile home. Called at 8am the day we were to leave. Some family walked back to the car, and someone came and gave them a new jeep. Said they could go. Had the new jeep for 4 hours before returning it. No one in the office greeted us, or apologized for the car breaking down. The women who sits at the desk immediately to the left of the door was just plain rude and nasty. I looked for her name, but nothing on her desk. The conversation ended up being about the gas we owed. You sign that you'll replace gas when you return the car. We were unable to fill the tank on the first jeep because it was dead - not moving!! They also charged us for the tank of gas on the second jeep. They alleged that their driver marked the gas tank at full, and we returned it at 3/4. No paper work regarding the gas level of the second jeep was ever signed. I was told, "well the driver marked it was a full tank". We had the jeep for 4 hours and drove to town, then the airport. We did not use 1/4 tank of gas. When I brought these concerns to the attention of the staff, the manager came out, copped an instant attitude and blamed the broken jeep on us, saying it was "rough driving" that caused it. Sorry, but you fools had a lemon on your hands and anyone who knows the roads on St. Thomas knows that some rough driving is unavoidable. The point is, a 2015 jeep shouldn't just take a dump like that. I ended up paying for the gas, but was given a day credit. The staff was rude and certainly did not set any kind of good example for the island. Think long and hard before you use this company or their shitty cars. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They have a wide selection of 2 and 4 door jeeps and smaller cars like a Toyota corolla. The car was clean and newer. I highly suggest getting a jeep with the bumpy and steep roads on the islands. We went to St. John's for the day and they require a jeep. I would rent from discount auto again. I think she could hear the disappointment in my voice because she told me to hold on. When she came back on the line, she told me she had 1 jeep coming in that day at noon and asked when our flight arrived. It was thoughtful of her to double check and make arrangements for us. Extensive online research and contact with multiple different companies led me to reserve a 2-door Jeep Wrangler at Discount Car Rental, and I am so pleased with how everything went. The day before our trip. our flight was cancelled due to winter weather and re-booked for the following day. When I called to discuss pushing our week-long reservation forward one day, they were very accommodating and luckily the Jeep was available one more day. The quoted weekly rate was better than any other company I found, and the only additional fee we were charged (with our consent, of course) was a minimal amount for a second driver. From the man who picked us up in a timely manner from the airport to the lady behind the desk at the rental office, we found the staff to be polite and helpful. The Jeep was in wonderful condition and was exactly what we needed to navigate some of the "questionable" roads on St. John. If you're going to spend time on St. Thomas, you need to rent a Jeep. The first reason is that there's too much to see around the island to stay in one spot. Secondly, it takes a divine intervention to navigate those damn roads. Or a Jeep. The women at Discount were awesome. Very accommodating, easy check-in/check-out, really close to the airport. We were picked up at the airport pretty fast, brought a half-mile or so to the business, and were on our way within 15 minutes. We paid $500 for a week, which is a bit pricey to rent a car but it was Christmas week and we called really late to book so it was fine. The driver we had at first wasn't very friendly and was on the phone the whole time. Not a big fan of that at any business. But I can't let that reflect poorly on the nice women in the office. read more
