There's also a nice liquor selection, although we had just come in looking for wine. It was tempting. A lot of reviews reference making your own drinks here. This didn't happen for us - but I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it existed. I'll have to take a closer look when I'm back. Next time I'm in town in the French Quarter (next week...), I'll be sure to stock up on my alcohol needs here! Don't be surprised to see me here in the next 7-8 days...

Reasonable selection, all things considered. It earns that bonus star by having several choices of regional beers sold by the can and chilled for $2.50. Even if you couldn't pour it into a cup and walk around the quarter with your beer, that's still a pretty good deal. Also, I was delighted they sold Herbsaint in small 200ml bottles. I'll confess to bringing my bottle back to the hotel, putting some in a plastic cup with an appropriate volume of water, and using that as my walking around town drink. Infinitely better (and more authentically NOLA) than the frozen slop that gets you sloppy. Anyhow, I'm sure to return to pick up some beverages whenever I'm back in town. It's a recommended stop for sure. Good stuff. Convenient location. Zero pretense.

If you're in the bottle room, you are in a posh elegant living room. If you're in the bar area, it's an intimate space. And then there are the tables on the loading dock which are a whole other vibe. Selection is excellent with a variety of wines by the glass and canned beverages available. I'm guessing you can also buy a bottle to be opened right then and there. Bartenders have all been lovely. And there is plenty of parking in the Art Egg lots.

There's plenty of helpful signage surrounding the warehouse to let you know where to park. I loved browsing around the beautiful little shop portion, which smells insanely good and is extremely air conditioned (crucial at this time of year... IYKYK). You won't be overwhelmed by the selection of wines, which is nice, but I very much felt there was excellent representation for every region and varietal. The best part-- that little bar situation! It seems to be in a shipping container that's lovingingly outfitted and cozy and perfect. There were two (rotating, I believe) bubbly by the glass options and very reasonably priced at roughly 9 and 12 dollars a glass. We took our glasses out to the loading doc tables. This was on the day of the art studios being open to the public, just the right amount of people roaming around and enjoying a glass. Definitely putting this on my list of favorite wine bars, as I appreciate the unique industrial setting and the high attention to detail in their offerings and customer service.

This is a pretty basic corner store - what we call a party store back in Detroit. Booze, beer, cigarettes, snacks, lottery, some grocery basics. They had a nice selection of hats with local pride and ghetto fabulous designs on them, too. I got a fleur de lis ball cap for less than ten bucks. Not some licensed Saints stuff, but that just makes it cooler in my book. I stayed right around the corner from here for 3 days and must have run in at least 4 times, and always got quickly back out. They usually had two registers open, which was really helpful, since like in Detroit people had to be wasting their money on their stupid lottery numbers. You can't lose if you don't play. Happy Discount keeps it moving.

There appears to be street parking as well as some available lots nearby. Walking up from the water the first thing you see is this gigantic New Orleans mural and it's indicative of the brewery inside the same building - huge warehouse, it even has camper parked inside with a bar that extends much of the back wall. There are picnic tables so plenty of seating. I was there an early Monday afternoon so it wasn't busy at all, but I could imagine it being filled with lines to satisfy throngs of partygoers. There are five vertically placed flat-panel monitors with a variety of drink-menu options. I chose to get a flight of beers I hadn't had previously which ended up being 4 varietals of their King Cake Ale: * Cake Ale - Pale Ale - Other 6% - Creamy pale, almost registers as a fruited sour, sweet body with notes of almond, amaretto, cinnamon and vanilla. 4/5 * Coconut King Cake Ale - Pale Ale - Other 6% - Milky coconut in this almost tart King Cale ale, getting notes of both raw and toasted coconut, almond, amaretto, sweet vanilla and cinnamon. 4.3/5 * Almond Crème Strawberry King Cake Ale - Pale Ale - Other 6% - Creamy body with distinct almond note followed by vanilla and cinnamon. 4.2/5 * Strawberry King Cake Ale - Pale Ale - Other 6% - Fruity tart strawberry in this pale ale, finishes fruity and sweet, a touch dry. 4.1/5 Overall I enjoyed the beers I had - all very drinkable. The cinnamon was a bit much all at once, these are almost dessert beers and better taken in small amounts after you've slammed a few of their staple beers, in my opinion, but I'm still very glad I had them. The staff and service was good with an efficient demeanor - I think if they were slightly friendlier I might have stuck around and tried more of what they offered but as my second brewery (and plans for more exploration in the evening) I decided to keep things neat with this single flight. Afterwards I walked back up to St Charles and took a short nap and got cleaned up for evening shenanigans.

Holy Roller Hazy IPA is a great standard that I get in bars and buy in stores for the house from time to time. Upon my last visit, I got a flight that included their seasonal King Cake flavored sours. They had coconut, almond, strawberry and regular ( I think). During Mardi Gras if you want to brave the crowds on a Saturday, you can pair them with slices of King Cake from Doung Phong bakery. Urban South is a large warehouse with cool decor, pinball machines and tons of picnic tables. There are also 4-5 picnic tables outside along with a permanent food truck. They also bring in other food vendors from time to time and have crawfish boils all the time in season. My only issue with the place is if the garage doors are down, the place can smell like...well a brewery. Breweries do not smell good and Urban South's tap room is not separated from the rest of the brewery.
