I purchased a simple fiberglass door for my garage and had it installed recently. The door does the job, closes and locks okay. The installation cost for the door was $450 and it took about 2.5 hours to remove the old door and re-install the new one. Most of my issues have to do with the workmanship of the installation. The attached photos tell the story. I believe there was an overall lack of finesse with the installer. Cracked/torn drywall, trim gaps, scratched deadbolt handle, scratched the metal door frame in several places, dinged up my new outdoor trim in a few places with hammer marks, and a poor quality caulking job on the outside. I wish I would have just bought the door and done the work myself, so that was a lesson learned. Now I'll spend probably an equal amount of time as the install took trying to fix things up and make it look better. read more

The sliding door arrived quicker that estimated by a couple of days and in great condition. Installation was quick, professional, and worked with my schedule to get it delivered quickly. The Installers went above and beyond and installed a trim around the door and caulked the perimeter very neatly, additionally they cleaned the area when they were done. One downside to the company was time management, I was notified about an appointment time and while I took time off for the appointment I was not met at that time. This company is a JOKE. I have been trying to get my warranty info and have been hung up on (by the owner Allen) as well as told that I would be contacted and then never contacted. On top of that, when they put our solar in, they not only put in too few panels to cover our house energy use (even though I asked for extra energy), they didn't tell me that I needed a circuit breaker upgrade or it would "pop" all the time and not collect energy. So now I have to check our panel MULTIPLE times a day just to ensure the solar THEY INSTALLED is actually collecting energy. When I spoke to Allen today, and was clearly frustrated from trying to get info all week, he told me that he didn't want to talk to me and HUNG UP ON ME!! I picked discount door and windows because it's cheaper than others. I have 12 windows done. I've seen how sloppy the installer and doesn't cleaned his area before he goes to another windows. I cleaned my kitchen counter full of aluminum shavings and dust. I have to show this guy how to removed the tape residue from window stickers. He left trash all over my yard look at the pictures. That just a few. Molding is not caulk. Look at the picture. One of the windows is cracked. I have to wait two weeks for replacement. Everything is covered with molding so you don't see how it was built. But I knew because I was looking and watching this guy. The window install was ok -- no paint touch up on the original frames but I handled that myself. The first cracked window took a few weeks to get replaced. Second cracked one is on going for months now. Bath window was supposed to be frosted but isn't. And they did the worst solar install I could ever imagine. Contracted for ground mount but after a YEAR they couldn't get approval so against my better judgment I let them do a roof install. I told them I didn't want it on my tile roof because I didn't believe they could do it without causing leaks. I was correct --- water poured through my recessed lighting ruining the new drywall and also around the vents. After 4 attempts there is still some seepage on the trusses during heavy rains. I guess Alan is done with with the customer service stuff. I would have canceled the order but they had half of the entire payment up front . read more

I had all the windows in my condo replaced by this company. One window never closed properly and now it leaks when it rains. After weeks of trying to get in touch with these people for service, I'm told that a service call will cost me $150 for the first hour and then $75 for each hour after that. If you use these people, make sure you read the warranty carefully. Their "lifetime warranty" only covers manufacturer defects - not their sloppy installation. AVOID THIS PLACE Sleazy, underhanded, dishonest people. These people have called to bother me in the past, and did so, very rudely, lying to me, again today. Rude, dishonest phone solicitation, even though I am on the "Do Not Call" list, and have been for years. They lied about this, saying that "it did not come up on my list." An outright lie. Also, they continue to bother me with their obnoxious soliciting, even though I have previously, very pointedly, told them to stop calling and bothering me. First a female, then a male on the phone. They addressed me by name. I asked them where, exactly from whom, they got my name and address. THEY THEN LIED, by telling me that they had been to my house to give an estimate. Not true, and I told them so, and I asked again, where, from whom, they obtained my name and number. THEY LIED AGAIN, A DIFFERENT LIE, by telling me that my phone number had belonged to somebody who had my phone number before I got it. Pretty damn stupid to say that, since they addressed me by name. NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE!!! WE HAVE NEVER MET SOMEONE SO INCOMPETENT AND UNETHICAL. READ THE FOLLOWING FOR ALL THE RIDICULOUS DETAILS. July 2011 - We purchased 2 Amsco Renaissance composite sliding glass doors from Alan Holsapple (owner) for $6600.00. Alan helped us pick doors with the pine interior look that we were seeking, and the entire process from selection to installation was professional and simple. We are very pleased with the way the doors look. Our contract states "Lifetime warranty. Lifetime labor." Feb 28, 2014 - There is a big rain storm and we discover that one of our doors is leaking. Rainwater is entering from the bottom right corner of the door. My husband calls San Diego Door & Window and the receptionist tells him a claim needs to be opened with the manufacturer. March 3, 2014 - I call back and ask to speak with Alan. He receives my call and says that he will come out to look at the leak because that is the easiest initial course of action. We schedule an appointment for that Friday, March 7 March 7, 2014 - Alan arrives and pulls out door track to apply silicone to the area where he suspects water might be coming in. He tells me to do a water test in a few days. March 10, 2014 - I do a water test and discover that the door is still leaking in the same area. I call Alan and we schedule another appointment for that Friday, March 14th. March 14, 2014 - Alan arrives and pulls out the door track. He applies more silicone and plugs one of the weeps. He also cuts open an additional weep to facilitate water drainage from the track. (Water is pooling in the track and not draining.) He tells me to do a water test in a few days. March 17, 2014 - I do another water test and the door is still leaking the same amount of water. I email Alan and he responds with the following course of action "I guess we need to pull the door out, put in a sill pan, and re-install the door. ... I just talked to Francisco, and he can plan on Tues the 25th. He'll arrive between 10 and 11.." March 25, 2014 - Francisco arrives and tells my husband that there was a nail through the baseboard into the vinyl that he initially thought was the cause of the leak into the house side, but it turns out it wasn't. Francisco explains that there should be unobstructed holes to allow the water to drain outside of the house -- there is one small hole on the left side and another small one on the right that had been covered with silicone by Alan. Francisco added a third hole in the center, but water still wouldn't completely drain out -- it would drain to a certain level, then about a quarter inch would remain in the tracks, and water would leak into the house. Francisco determined that the door wasn't completely level, which prevented complete drainage, and would need to be reinstalled. Francisco water tested the other sliding glass door and discovered a leak as well. Both leaks appear to be coming from the corner where the sides meet at a 45 degree angle. For both doors, Francisco suggests installing a drip pan to prevent water leaking inside -- this is a more permanent solution to silicone.\ Francisco says that he will update Alan and we will be notified what the next step will be. He does not pull out the doors or install a sill pan. We also email Alan a follow-up recap to the appointment. March 27, 2014 - Alan sends the following email: "Chris and Amy, I had a chance to talk to Francisco. He said that the six foot wide door (A) is no longer leaking and is draining well through the new and the cleaned weep channels. The second door (B) should be sealed and drilled in the same manner to cure any leakage issues. Then we will water test the doors by closing and locking both doors and spray testing the doors with a liberal amount of water. There must have been a communication breakdown between Alan and Francisco because our door is definitely still leaking as nothing has been done to fix the leak! We schedule Alan to come out on April 1st. April 1, 2014 - Alan arrives and we do the water test to show him the leak. Alan exclaims "That's a big leak." In looking at the door and seeing that it is not level, Alan begins to wedge material under the interior side of the door. He sees that Francisco has removed the silicone that he had previously applied. Alan reapplies silicone, even though he states that that is not a permanent solution, and he offers to drill more weep holes... He also said this past visit that a sill pan is not the best solution. We all noticed that water does not drain from the track. January 2015 - Long story short, Alan never fixed the problem or honored his warranty. We had to pay a competent door company to fix the doors out of pocket. Please do not trust this person, regardless of the company he happens to be posing behind. read more

I guess I should've read the reviews before using this company. I used them to replace the sliding glass door that was shattered. They came and measured the glass themselves so I'm not sure what happened. They called me two weeks later to schedule an appointment and then showed up an hour and a half late, after I had left work early to be there. They took off the old door and when they went to put on the new glass they had the WRONG SIZE! After waiting another 2 weeks for the right size they were this time 2 hours late showing up. This is a follow-up to my prior review. After finishing my updating and painting of my house I finally had Window Washers come out and do my windows. It was at this time that they told me that one of my windows that this company installed was defective and had many marks, scratches Etc between the two panes. I called the office and asked them what their warrenty was on their glass, and the gentleman said lifetime which I find hard to believe but I'm sure it's at least 6 months which is how long ago the windows were put in. When I talk to Viviana she asked which window was defective, the tempered glass or the regular glass. I was a little confused because I paid for both to be tempered glass. Obviously they screwed me on one window. She told me they would make me a new window and she would get back to me tomorrow . After waiting two days I never heard from her, and when I finally did talk to her she made it sound like I had done something to damage the window which is impossible since it's in a cathedral ceiling room. I asked her to please send the owner out to look at it and she said they're just too busy to do that even though my house is only 10 minutes from their business. She told me she'd get back to me and I waited 5 more days and she never did which is the same treatment I got in June when I tried to get hold of them. This company is dishonest and they have the worst customer service I've ever seen in my life. Do not get involved with them! My next step is going to the BBB. read more

I must admit if I read the previous review I probably would never have hired this company for my window replacement. However, I'm so glad I did! The estimate I received was almost $3000.00 less than other estimates I had. The only problem I had is that I was given a time frame for installation, and I never received a call to schedule the install. When I called I was transferred to the installation dept where they setup my installation date. I think a call should be made by them not me to setup my install date. The installer came out and did a fantastic job with the installation. He took his time and was very professional and thorough removing the old windows and cleaning up any mess left behind. However it was supposed to be delivered today at 7:30 and at 9 AM I am still waiting. That is worrisome enough but when I called the company there was no one there who even knew that there was supposed to be a delivery. The guy who answered the phone said that there was only one person in charge of installation and they were not in. Therefore no one knows if anyone will be delivering the door. It is a nightmare for me to get time off so this may mean I won't get the door for months. Will update. read more

My beautiful double entry wood doors were ruined by a break-in. I did a lot of research and plenty of homework into doors. When I ran into this company online and saw that they had what I wanted at a reasonable price (mine is called: Entry Wood Double Door with Lite), and since they are not far from me, I made an appointment to visit them (even though you can do all your ordering online). I met with Alan who was great to work with. He helped me choose the correct color of stain and make a great choice in doors (I had three that I liked from online) and a great choice in door knobs and hardware. All the wood doors are made of solid Brazilian Mahogany and the set I chose have gorgeous window glass in them, as well. Not only did they arrive on time, not only did Augustine and his son Auggie come on time to install, but the doors were absolutely beautiful--even better than my original doors, even better than I expected. Everyone was great to work with from the gentleman who came out to measure, to the awesome staff of office personnel. But I especially want to say that the door installers Augustine and Auggie were amazing: I didn't get pre-hung and so they had to cut them perfectly to fit in the existing frame. OMG they did amazing work, true artists and craftsmen--thank you! Thank you, Alan, and everyone at Discount Door and Window. My overall experience with discount window and doors was outstanding. Alan was very helpful and patient with all of my questions. After getting a few quotes, it was clear that they have the best value. We ordered fiberglass French door replacements and are very happy with the quality. We also used their installation services. The installer Augustine was a perfectionist and took the necessary time to install the doors correctly. He was able to install doors on the existing frame which is no easy task. They work flawlessly. One word...amateurs! The worst company I have ever done business with. The absolute poorest customer service and follow through. Go somewhere else, spend a little more if you have to in order to avoid dealing with this company and their shoddy customer service and delivery of goods. I ordered a single hung window over 2 months ago, the money to pay for the window cleared my bank within 48 hours, but I'm still dealing with these degenerates to get them to provide the product I ordered. I have been patient, professional, and available for communication with them, but have not gotten the same in return. Further, any attempts to get a phone call or email back on the order status is met with silence. This includes response back from Rebecca the associate that originally took the order, Allen - the owner of the company, and pretty much any other associate of this company I have ever spoken with over the last 2 months. Buyer, be very wary of dealing with this organization and take your money elsewhere to a professional organization, an organization that knows what the basics of customer service should be. I do not write reviews, but the experience with this company warrants my time to write this review to hopefully save someone else from having to deal with this company. I will even take the time to file a grievence letter to the BBB and pursue legal action if product is not delivered within a week as I was just told. I was told this company bought San Diego Door and Window, who sold and installed windows for us in 2004. I called because 5 of the Great Lakes windows had seal leaks leading to condensation inside and a dirty look to the windows.
