Last Thursday January 4th, I visited the Solana Beach Location to have my Tire repaired. I called ahead and spoke to Adrian who indicated to arrive near 5:00 in the late afternoon. Following his advise I arrived early and was told I would have to wait hour and Half for my SUV to be checked. After waiting, I was told that I need a new $275.00 Tire or I could have four new tires installed prior to their closing that night. I left was upset that I had wasted two hours of my time. The next day I went to Evans Tire and they plugged the Tire in Ten Minutes and charged me $10.00 and removed the nail. Watch out for free Service and tire repair that may cost you a new tire or a set of Wheels. I stopped by this store to get tires changed under warranty. I was offered some credit for remaining warranty on tires. Since it was somewhat less than expected I called the manufacturer (Michelin) and found out the actual credit was 100s of dollar more than the manager of this store Gerardo offered. On asking about he was evasive and eventually matched what Michelin customer service mentioned. I think this was a clear case of shady behavior. How many customers bother to call tire manufacturer? Please do yourself a favor find a honest store or make sure you call tire manufacturer to find actual credit when dealing with this store. I will not be coming back here. read more

In the past I had very good experiences with Jeff at this discount tire location. however, I came in on Saturday and ordered a tire because the wheel well on my car was rubbing on my tire causing the tire to wear out on the inside. I asked for jeff and someone said jeff dosent work here anymore. At which time Gerry said out loud "thank God". Very unprofessional. So my dreaded tire pressure light came on this weekend so I immediately drove it to discount tires as I know they do tire checks for free. The nice gentlemen inflated all my tires and said he didn't see any noticeable problems and if the light comes back on again to come back for a more thorough check. Well it's Monday morning and my light came back on again! Ugh. So I drove my car back here again first thing in the morning and was greeted by Alan who took care of me right away and told me one of his guys will take a look at my tires. Had a tire issue with both back tires after a drive out to San Diego. As you can imagine, not the best time to have it happen. The staff here are one of the most professional and courteous I've dealt with. Unfortunately not all Discount Tire locations live up to this standard. I only waited about two hours, which is reasonable. And they were straightforward about the issue, thorough in letting me see the problem, AND most importantly there was no upswell hassle. Jeff is pretty rude of a salesperson. Not sure why he kept telling me how many times they serviced me for free for Checking my tires in the past...this had nothing to do with me buying one tire. I don't care if the last time I bought 4 tires was in 2016...for now I only need one! These men and their "mansplaining"! Tired of getting this kind of treatment in these kinds of places because i'm a woman. When I eventually bought one tire through Adrian. His friendly attitude changed to kind of bitter and cold towards me especially when I had to ask him for the AAA discount to save a few dollars, and for only buying one tire! After they put my new tire on, I happened to go to the free air check and asked those guys if my tires were balanced and needed air. They said I should be fine, however, one of the employees asked the another employee if he should assume the air was checked. Well, that other employee told him he should double check the mechanics work. Guess what? My tires needed air! This could've been dangerous for me to be driving around like that! There is the kind of place where you walk in and all of a sudden, there's this radar that starts ringing in your head that says "Question these guys. They're probably lying to you. They don't care about helping you. If you're not careful, you're going to get sold a bill of goods." Discount Tire is one of those places. I just don't feel comfortable. Anyway, I've been to Discount Tire three of four times for tires on different vehicles. So when I woke up the other morning and got into my beloved car to see her flashing a "low tire" warning, I decided to head to this Discount Tire... the closest one to my house. I parked, walked in, and embarked upon a conversation with one of their reps that went something like this: ME: Hi. One of my tires is low and I can't visibly tell which one. Can you take a look? GUY: Sure. (we walk outside). GUY: (looks at tires for five seconds and pulls out his tire measuring thingy) Well, you need four new tires. ME: Really? Because the car is brand new and it only has 17K miles. GUY: Yeah, they put really crappy factory tires on these cars when they sell them. I know. I have the same car. ME: (believing from his measurements and my past experience with crappy tires that the guy is telling the truth) Oh. Okay. First off, though, I really need to get to an appointment if the car is drivable. Would you check to see which tire is low and whether putting air in it temporarily will work, and then tell me what you'll charge for new tires? GUY: Well, I can't inspect your tires right now. There's an hour and fifteen minute wait. ME: Can you just check which one is low and throw some quick air in and then I'll come back later? GUY: No. There is a wait. ME: Okay. May I borrow your tire gauge? GUY: I don't have one on me. ME: (annoyed now) Okay. How much for new tires?!? GUY: I don't know. I'll have to run some numbers inside. (we go back inside). GUY: (after looking for a few minutes) Oookkkkkkaaaaaaayyy... looks like everything for that car is going to run you over a grand. ME: WHAT?!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? GUY: No. Like I said... I have the same car. ME: Okay, well, which tires should I put on there and how much are you going to charge me for them? GUY: Michelins (gives me information about them). $1,440, out the door. ME: ... GUY: I mean, I can put a cheaper tire on there, like this set for $1,220, but they'll only last you about 10,000 miles. ME: (accepting my fate) Okay. Please write down what you're recommending and the total. At that price point I'm going to shop around a bit, so make sure you give me your best price. (Now the guy writes down a number $300 lower on the business card, and hands it to me. I feel like hitting him). ME: Why is it lower? GUY: Well, that's my best price, and it doesn't include any road hazard warranty. ME: So if I hit something and one of the tires busts, I'm not covered? GUY: That's right. ME: Okay. Thanks. I might be back later. I went outside to get in my car and try to find a gas station with an attendant who might help a lady out, when a guy from the Discount Tire shop walked out into the parking lot, tapped me on the shoulder, and said "ma'am, if you just pull your car in here, I will fix you up." And he did. Told me there was a screw in one tire. He also confirmed that all four were looking a little bald (although not as bad as the earlier guy had said). I thanked him for his help and left. Fast forward a few minutes later... I'm on the phone with Lexus, finding that there starting price for factory-recommended upgraded tires is a good $200 lower than what Discount Tire has quoted, and their price includes a road hazard warranty (really? THE FREAKING DEALER IS LOWER?!? I THOUGHT IT WAS "DISCOUNT"!) Not only that, but the guy at Lexus also told me that the Michelins are NOT approved tires for my vehicles... that they'll make the car very wobbly and the road noise will be nearly unbearable. Needless to say, on Tuesday Lexus installed a set of four brand new tires on my beloved car. She's driving beautifully. One quick note: this isn't the first time I've heard of crap like this happening at Discount Tire. I have another friend who says they're NOTORIOUS for this. At the very least, they need to cross-reference their products with what the car manufacturer says is acceptable. Good Lord! One extra star for the nice shop guy who helped me make sure I was safe to drive for a little while. read more

There isn't much I hate more than car maintenance, but I have to say, as far as getting tires go, this was relatively painless. It was gonna cost me dolla dolla bills y'all, this I knew, but how much was the question of the day. Cheaper than the dealer was the answer (surprise surprise) and they even had a 1$00 rebate deal going too! Done and done. What's more, it was done with a smile, lickidy split, while I ate delish tomato soup at Panera and shopped at Marshalls. It should be noted that there is stuff to do while you're waiting near this particular location-if there isn't near your closest discount tire and your wheels can stand it, make an appointment here and halfway enjoy yourself. Those deep discounted shoes you'll get at Marshalls will take the sting out of the tire price tag even further! Nothing makes me feel better about spending money on my vehicles than when I do it in new shoes ;) The warranty is solid, we've bought tires from them for years, even back in Washington. and we've never had questions asked when getting a repair done. Discount Tire is commodity tire shop equivalent to any taco shop in SD. I chose the Solana Beach location specifically due to the Yelp reviews, but these guys are slippery slimeballs. I specifically went in to replace TWO front tires. There was never a discussion about purchasing a set of four. Patrick sold me on some higher end Perelli's because he said I would get $30 rebate per tire. I even confirmed that meant $60 off and he said yes. After I picked up my car and researched the rebate rules, I found out it only qualifies if you buy four tires (I guess that is standard, but I was not aware and the salesman already verbally confirmed $60 rebate on two tires). When I called and spoke to the manager, Bruce, he claimed "he could lie and tell me the rebate qualifies, but he's not going to do that". What?!! I couldn't believe the nerve on this D-bag. Then he said I "could come down and get $20 for a good lunch" to make amends for the $60 rip-off. Needless to say, this guy is an a-hole. If this review prevents ONE person from giving this place business, it is worth the time to write this review. Also, they sneakily try to tack on $22 PER TIRE for their "certification" package. You actually have to review the bid line by line carefully opt out of all the garbage they try and front load on the invoice. Be warned, or as they say, caveat emptor. read more

These guys bend over backwards to help you. I've used them twice in emergencies and a few more times for regular tire changes. Once they picked my car up and drove it from a garage to their shop for me. Another time, they stayed open late for me to bring in a family member's car so he could get a new tire and leave the next day on a holiday weekend instead of waiting three days for the stores to open again. An hour before closing time for them on a Saturday. These guys were swamped, running a three hour wait. I had a nail in my tire and needed to drive to LA in the morning. The nail was in a set of tires that I did not buy from Discount tire -- full disclosure (this set of tires came on aftermarket wheels that I bought as a package. I did buy one replacement tire from discount, but this was not that tire). Not only did they fit me in, but they did so with a smile. When I came back to pick it up, they said "No Charge"! Sure, I've bought a set or two from the chain before, but these guys go out of their way to incurr loyalty. I LOVE THESE GUYS! I think I've reviewed other Discount Tire locations in the past, but since this is my local and "go to" shop, I feel the need to say how awesome they are! I'll never go anywhere else for tire needs. I bought tires here for my old car, but after getting a new car, I was bummed to hear that my bumper warranty covered everything except tire rotations. No problem- Discount Tire to the rescue! Even though I didn't buy this set of tires here, they've always been helpful with rotations. I also never feel like they are trying to up-sell things or get my into new tires before I really need them. They always give you an accurate estimate of when your care will be ready, and there are plenty of coffee/food/shopping options within walking distance while waiting for your car. WORD OF ADVICE: Discount offers free rotating and balancing for the life of the tires; do it. They have a "no weasel policy" and adhere to the "free" policy. I walked into the shop after having done some quick research on the interweb and deciding I wanted Yokohama tires to replace my seriously bald treads on my '03 Element. I got to the store - which is clean and spacious - and was greeted by one of the sales guys. I told him the kinds of things I wanted (rather than a specific tire), and he made some suggestions, and came out to the car and confirmed that my car was in dire straights. I ended up with Michelins that I had no knowledge of. I did get a tire that wasn't his first recommendation (I wanted something quieter, he suggested something more 'all-around'), but I still didn't get my Yokohama's (this place was listed on Yokohama's site as an official reseller). I had problem with one of my tires. It was loosing air on a weekly basis. Suspected a nail or something of that sort and took my car over to these guys as they were very close to work. They offer free check up and patch/repair of your tire. Who can beat that? The service was quiet good for being free. A dude named Allan I think helped me, he was courteous and helpful. He took the car and they called me back in 2 hours like they said they would and I picked it up. Don't know how they make money from all these small patch or repair works. After calling every other place in the area to find they did not have my tires I walked in to Discount Tire 10 minutes after their closing time to see if they had the tires for my car. They had a couple options in stock, which was a great surprise. I tried to make an appointment for the next day, but after inspecting my tires the manager offered to keep the shop open later to get the tires on that night. He did not want to send me home on what he thought were unsafe tires, and he was in no rush to get out of there on a Saturday night. I had four tires replaced in under an hour. Their magazine selection is great, and you can mooch off of the neighboring Staples' wireless connection if you have your laptop. Usually I go to the Escondido Discount Tire and have no issues. I recently had my tires rotated and balanced and after receiving my car it had speed wobbles over 60MPH -(From Discount Escondido). So I work in the area and thought it would be a good idea to get the tires re-balanced on my lunch break. Made an appointment for 12:15 but dropped it off at 12:00. JUAN M BERNAL helped me and told me that it would be less than an hour. Go grab lunch do a little shopping and get back an hour later and my car did not move. I obviously had to get back to work so I grabbed my keys from the salesmen and left. As I was leaving I saw a friend out in front. I conveyed my story and he said they told him an hour, an hour and a half ago. Get the time right Discount! It's not that hard to figure out scheduling.
