    The 5 senses 1/2/2025

Well done, Discovery Center Museum! For $12 per person, this place is well worth it! We went here in 2018 and returned this year, 1/2/2025. They have made improvements since then by adding for sections in the museum (the Discovery Center made up of several play areas: a pizza restaurant, a post office, cargo transportation center, etc.). The museum is made up for two floors to explore with different areas: Makers Space, Calm Space, Bubble Play, Planetarium, Tree House, an area for kids 6 yr old and below, and many more! We stayed here for 4 hours and we could have easily stayed until closing time. During the warm months, they have an outdoor play area overlooking the river. I saw staff cleaning and monitoring all areas throughout the museum. I appreciated that. The only needs for improvement: wish their store had more items and was more organized, and wished they offered a snack shop that serves sandwiches and light snacks (fruit cup, vegetable cup, etc.). Otherwise, this place is definitely a great destination for kids. Highly recommended! Go go go!

This is the best children's museum I have ever been to. For just $10 a person my kids spent 5 hours exploring this place and didn't want to leave but they were closing. They dont sell any food, but have nice picnic tables outside for bringing lunch in. All exhibits are clean and organized. We drove all the way from Madison, Wisconsin to visit this place and would do so again!

OMG, if there was higher rating than 5 stars, then this one definitely gets more stars. We visited here after Christmas and spent most of vacation here from reading reviews online. Overall, my wife and I were amazed at 2 levels of extensive exhibits for kids of all ages. The ground floor has a planetarium which was decent but can't complain at $1-2 admission. It also has a farm exhibit along with some science activities around making bubbles and pulling your own weight with pulleys. There is access to outdoor playground but it is closed for season. On the 2nd floor, there is way more things for both toddlers and slightly older with more science exhibit on the human body/electricity as well as grocery store and toddler water table and tree house. For Christmas holidays, the museum opened a separate section for ice skating with your socks on smooth tiles. Also, there were craft tables which were nice. Staff was more than helpful and also in the separate holiday area too. Our ASTC reciprocal membership made our admission free for 2-3 days we visited. Our toddler didn't get bored each day so wished we had something as extensive back in Twin Cities.

Children museum in Rockford, with challenging learning opportunities for all. I enjoyed seeing the children enjoy the day.

    Lots of hands on fun!!

I have been bring nieces and nephews here for years. Think Chicago Children's museum on a much smaller scale. I currently bring my great niece/nephew. My 6yr old grn says "it's the best museum in the world" and wants to go every time she visits (about six already) . Lots of hands on exhibits. Kids run from one to another. Wear good shoes. No food for lunch here- may want to pack a picnic.

My son is 4.5 and this was PERFECT! I highly recommend the trip to Rockford to do their museum campus on the river. We did Burpee and Discovery on the same day. Everything at the Discovery Children's Museum was interactive, everything. There is so much to do, we spent 3 hours here and could have easily spent more. My suggestion, bring multiple kids and let them run free. Have a 'date' day at the museum or a Girls Day Out while the kids run, learn and have fun. Also, you get $1 off if you do both museums in one day and there are military and AAA discounts you can use in conjunction. It cost us $10 total for 3 hours, worth it.

The creative play could last all day if you have the time. There's everything from water play (you'll probably get wet!), climbing, interactive play zones of so many themes, art and even small live animals! Even as an adult, it never got boring. My 2.5yo daughter and her friends just couldn't get enough of it. Lots of opportunities for kids to learn while playing. The staff are incredibly friendly and I believe all, if not most, are volunteers. There's a pay-what-you-can food area, which is so thoughtful. Very bright interior with plenty of natural light. Clean and updated play spaces for such a big facility to keep up with! Very clean restrooms. Small area for parents who have babies to sit in to play while their older kids explore. We've been to other children's museums and this is one of my favorites. The cost for anyone over the age of 1yo is currently $18 each (or 10% online) but if you're planning on spending a day here, totally worth it. I do think it would be a little more reasonable for ages 1-8 to be a little less than a full adult ticket price but it is what it is. If you live within an hour or have a larger family, it's definitely worth it to get a season pass' some include guest passes for friends. It's a worthy investment or a great gift! There's nothing more heartwarming seeing your child smile nonstop and exploring while in a learning environment. Stop on by, you'll love it and sleep well afterwards! One staff member said they're expanding so we're looking forward to that in the future.

They have an awesome outdoor playground which is unique and our toddler loved it. Indoors, there's a great play space for kids under 5 so the smaller kids can enjoy an area without being totally run over by big kids. It's pricey, for a family of 4 (we had to pay for our 15 month old, it's only free for 12 mos and under) it was about $80. With that, if you're going to spend the money, make it worth your while on the time commitment there. Lastly, the staff was very friendly and attentive which was a plus.

I'm from Houston, Texas and didn't like how we had to pay a non-residential entrance fee, which is more expensive. I feel like there should only be one flat fee. Also, the ticket price is so expensive, especially since we have to pay for the children AND adults. I mean, it's a children's museum so the adults HAVE to be there to accompany them. It's not like the adults come to play on their own. We come to play with the child. I just feel like adults should be free, or at least only pay like $5. On a normal day, it would not be reasonable to come here. I did see that they are hosting a Family Day when tickets are about $5 a person; that is an amazing deal and is so worth it. The hours are so short! We came on Thursday when the hours are 10-2pm. We came in at 11:30pm and I felt like we didn't have enough time! My boys wanted to play more; I wish we had come in earlier. So if you plan on going, I recommend going at 10am when they open, especially if you're going to pay full price. I didn't like how the hours are short and when it came to closing time, stations were shutting down early. At 1:45pm, the Cloud Buster exhibit was closed, which was disappointing because my boys wanted to go in there. A lot can happen in 15 minutes, so I didn't like that. The staff were all incredibly nice, sweet, and patient, though! They all kept their cool and were great at encouraging my boys, especially when climbing the Schooner. The museum reminds me of Montessori school, where it teaches independent play and discovery. I wish it included some facts and interactive play that reinforces the subject, like at a science museum. Overall, my two boys had a blast. They really enjoyed the "Play It Safe" and "Water City" exhibits. My favorite was Michael's Museum. I appreciated all the small messages of advice and reminders for parents in all play areas. It encouraged us and helped us understand the reasoning behind how children play or the purpose of the activity. From a child's perspective, this place is AMAZING, so I'm glad my boys enjoyed it.
