My son has been attending this daycare for the last 4 months. I could not be happier with the level of care he is receiving. His development had exploded since coming here. The staff are all so kind and supportive. He loves his teacher and aides. They use an app so you can actually see pictures throughout the day of what he's doing and then there is a report at the end of the day with information about what he ate and potty trips. I also think the pricing is very fair compared to other daycares in the area. I highly recommend this preschool and am so happy we found it. read more

We are extremely disappointed with the quality of service at this preschool. We wanted to enroll our son at Discovery Isle in Ted Williams, but they didn't immediately have availability. Despite our friends' recommendations against sending our son to this branch, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to temporarily enroll him, with the ultimate goal of transferring him out in a month, which was clearly communicated. My genuine observations are listed below: - While they claim a 1:12 teacher-to-kid ratio for 2-3-year-old toddlers, the ratio is more like 1:24 in the morning when we drop off the kids. - Due to short staffing, the teachers tend to leave some of the kids to cry after their parents leave for elongated periods of time, to the point that some of them turn purple. They are occasionally desperate to the point that they grab other kids' parents' hands to feel supported. - On his very first day, my son got a bruise/scratch on his nose, which took more than a week to heal. When we asked him, he mentioned another kid did this. We reported this to Discovery Isle, and they hand-waved and did absolutely nothing about it. - When I go to pick up my son in the afternoon, he typically sits by the fence, out in the sun, grabbing the pole and crying as if he's been in the jail and hoping I'd come and set him free. And the teachers don't seem to care much. That deeply saddens me. For the record, he's an absolutely social kid and doesn't have any issues making friends and/or socializing with other kids in the neighborhood or at the park. I think something is not quite right with this preschool. - The front desk assistant, Camille, needs improvement in her communication skills, especially in written communication via email. While I'm certain she doesn't have bad intentions, her emails are aggressive to the point that they may be perceived as insulting. She also needs improvement in her mathematical skills. I found multiple errors in the way she calculated tuition/fees, in terms of elementary addition/subtraction. - I requested access to the Tadpoles app. It took Camille two weeks to give me access after having typos in my email address multiple times. Believe it or not, my wife's name is still misspelled there, and they don't seem to have the analytical skills to fix it. read more

I can't say enough good things about Discovery Isle in Penasquitos. Our little toddler started there last year in Room 4. Everyone that works there is so nice, and they all say "hi" to our toddler, by name, every time I bring her in, even the teachers in other classrooms. It's just so welcoming. Every month they have special little theme days that our little one really enjoys. Of course, children will grow and develop on their own, but I can confidently say that Discovery Isle has jumpstarted our child's development. She is not even two and she knows all her colors and how to count to five and beyond. To he clear, we were not initially teaching those things at home. She just came home one day naming colors and counting things. Oh, and did I mention saying full and communicative sentences like "I don't like" and "I want more"? I cannot recommend Discovery Isle enough, and I am so pleased we found it when we did. 100% recommended for the staff alone. read more

Our three year old is very happy here and enjoys the daily activities and learning. And our oldest daughter went to DI before she graduated to Kindergarten. The teachers and staff genuinely care for the kids. Staffing is an issues at times but it's like that at many places since Covid and the school does good job at finding caring teachers. We love this school! We toured a ton of daycares last year before enrolling our daughter and this was our favorite one. We were added to the waitlist and we were so happy when they reached out about an opening! Our daughter loves her teachers and friends! We love them too!! Her teachers are amazing and very caring! Don't get me wrong, this school has gone through so many changes and staffing, but overall, the quality of care for our daughter hasn't changed. Love you guys!! My daughter loves this school! The teachers are very caring, we get updates everyday with what the kids are doing, and she's made many friends here. The curriculum seems great and very diverse. There was been some changes recently with the principal and a few teachers but all of their replacements have been great so far. Our son has been at this school for a couple of years. He loves his classmates and teachers and we can see how much he has grown and learned at this school. He will surprise us sometimes with the skills and knowledge he has gained. The program has good communication with the families and make it easy for the families to communicate updates with the teachers throughout the day if needed. This is a great preschool - wonderful staff and large facility. I started my daughter here when she was 2.5 and now she's about to attend TK this fall. She's transitioned through 3 different classrooms, and each classroom is curated to meet the needs of the children with age-appropriate activities that include both artistic and educational elements. All of the teachers that I've met there have been kind and caring and I always receive an update at the end of the day which includes what they ate, their nap time, potty updates (great when they were helping her potty-train), and pictures of their day. I love getting picture updates throughout the day because it always brings a smile to my face whenever I see her having fun at preschool. I can tell she loves going to preschool because over the weekend she'll ask when her school will open again. I would happily recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a great preschool. read more

I wanted to like this location because I have toured other Discovery Isle (which I liked) but this location was a hard No! The teachers seemed off-putting and distracted. I went to visit the toddler room and the room was filthy. Every child had snot all over their faces that were of different colors. One kid had either blood or red sauce on his face. The room was empty except one teacher has a dog agility tunnel for a few kids to play in and another teacher was reading a book. There were no other toys for the kids or even pictures. The walls were dirty and the floor had dust and dirt around it. I spoke to someone, who use to work at this location, and they said exactly what I saw is how the place is run. Teachers don't want to be bothered to wipe the kid's faces or mouths. Kids come in very sick and end up getting everyone very sick. They don't spend money on activities or toys for the kids. The director and teachers act like this job is a big inconvenience for them. Also, they are not very critical over the qualifications of the staff that they hire. She said most of the teachers have very little experience/early development credits and they get paid very little. Additionally, during the tour, the director tells me, "Several teachers are stuck in traffic so I HAD to go be with the kids." Her tone was annoyed and inferred, "how dare she have to be around kids." Everyone, including the director, seemed very annoyed about their job. The staff acts like this job is more of a bother than a rewarding career. I couldn't leave my toddler there and want more parents to be warned. It is a great location but it needs a huge overhaul with staff and attitude. read more

We have transitioned to this preschool for a month now and we cannot be happier with our decision. The teachers and headmaster are friendly and professional. The kids love their new school and teachers. In addition to having a good learning curriculum, they provide free breakfast and afternoon snacks. The play area is well maintained and clean. This review is based on a tour we did of their infant room only. From the get-go, the staff at the front was nice enough and it looked like all the kids in the playground were having fun. The way its set-up is there is a front office then you have to go outside again to reach all the classrooms (i.e. no indoor hallways.) This seemed inconvenient to me especially with an infant on a rainy day for example. You go in the office, go back outside, carry the baby carseat/baby in the rain, back into the office then back outside to your car. Also, for older kids if they need to line up, they'd have to line up out in the rain since there is no awning outside of the classroom doors...but I digress. We were taken to the infant room which was the very last classroom. Right away what struck me was that we were not asked to remove our shoes or wear booties. Every single infant room we had toured had a no shoes policy. So here you have crawling babies with their hands on the floor where dirty shoes walk all over, then those hands go in their mouths - no thanks. A majority of the classroom is tiled with only a small carpeted area for the non-mobile infants to lay out where, again, teachers would walk with their shoes on. Another thing I was not crazy about was their infant room age range is from 6 weeks to 24 months. That range is just too much! I believe once a child has reached 1 year/can walk they should not be in an infant room anymore and many moms and other daycare centers we toured feel the same way. The infants and toddlers have a private playground/area which looked nice and the room itself was bright but small. The teacher that was inside while we were there didn't really talk to us so I can't say I got the warmest feeling. To me, it says a lot when staff stop to say hi to our son, especialy if we are looking to put him in their room. Though, tuition wise they were a little less for part-time (3 days/week) per month compared to other places in the area, I wasn't crazy about their infant room. read more

I'm not really even sure how to put into words how happy I am with Discovery Isle. I'm not typically speechless, so that's saying a lot. My son started attending this school just a month before his 3rd bday, and on the heels of a pretty bad experience at a different preschool. I was quite nervous, because my toddler had been exhibiting some bad behavior at the other school and I was told that he was basically too hard to handle. He hadn't been being horrible at home, but he doesn't have any siblings, so I'm not able to observe him around other children too often. He is extremely high-energy, at all times, so this coupled with the feedback from the other school made me hesitant about being able to find the right fit for him. Fast forward to him being enrolled at Discovery Isle, and I just couldn't be happier! The administrative staff is great about communicating with parents about everything, making us feel included and even making sure to send emails with pictures every now and then. And I can't even tell you how happy we are with his classroom teacher - Miss Keyla. She is the best! She's the perfect fit for my son, and I'm just so thankful that she's willing to put the time and effort she does into making this experience a successful one for him. We've only been sending our kids to Discovery Isle on Azuaga for about 6 months, but we've been pretty happy. First, the positive... The administration has been really helpful as our kids adjusted/transitioned. They were really open with the idea of letting my youngest hang with his older sibling in the morning to help with separating, even though they were in different classes. It helped tremendously. The Administation has also been helpful with suggestions when I've had questions about any behavioral issues. The teachers (Ms Abier and Ms Jeanna) in the the Pre-K class (room 5) have been wonderful, and both my kids loved them. Now the negative... The only negative thing I have to say was that I wasn't very happy with one of the teachers in room 1. It seems the teacher and assistant are meant to balance each other (one more structure, and one more hugs and kisses/supportive). The teacher who is apparently the more "structure" part of the class didn't really bring her A game. When I dropped off the kids and she was the only teacher, the class was chaotic, and she never really seemed very happy. When other teachers were there by themselves wtih the kids in the morning for drop off, it was much more orderly. To her defense, I do have to say that this age-group is a challenge, and she's the one dealing with it all day. Both kids were pretty happy regardless of my opinions, so I still give Discovery Isle 4 stars. read more

It was last minute that I had to look for a daycare for my 1 year old son since I got a job offer and had to start the following week. I looked at 2 daycares and my son took to this one instantly. He instantly clicked with the other infant/toddlers so we enroll him and he started the following week. We started with 3 days since my mother in law was able to help look after him for 2 days but my mother-in-law doesn't drive and we had to drop off and pick him up 20 mins each way. We really wanted 3 consecutive days to start but was told they only had MWF. I didn't understand why. A week later I emailed the principal and told her this schedule didn't work and that we really needed consecutive days and she said 4 days is ok M-Thurs. I didn't understand why they didn't let us start with M-W. It didn't make sense to me. Was it just unnecessary hurdle that they wanted to give to new enrollees? So that's why I took away one star. This was really unnecessary. Apart from that, they were responsive to my emails and answered my calls. My son adjusted really well and the staff was very attentive to him. He came home happy, clean and well taken care of. I will update the review as time progress and if I see any changes. read more

Both my son and daughter attend Discovery Isle in PQ and we are so happy with the education, attention, and care they have received. We get a detailed report everyday of what the children did at school and a monthly report of the curriculum and how they are progressing to achieve those learning skills. The teachers and staff are caring and nurturing. They are strong communicators and they listen to feedback. Unsafe and unsecured. Had a scheduled tour and went in the wrong way. I feel like I could've walked off with any child due to lack if proper security or child: adult ratio. During the tour I witnessed a less than 2 year old eating alone. The only other person in the room before our tour guide opened the door was a 9 month old crying alone on the floor. None of the workers consoled the crying child or talked to the child eating. No one smiled. They just go through the motions. Hard pass. read more

I'm so glad I made a right decision to choose the best caregiver for my twins. After considering all of the options such as home daycare, nanny and daycare center, this place became by far the best I wanted to pick for my kids. All of the teachers and the management staffs are very friendly and personable, facilities are very clean and well-organized, the environment around the school is very quiet yet easy access to the freeway with no traffic. On top of that, the school program is very unique and my 1 year old kids are having so much fun and learning a lot by participating lots of fun activities every day. This place is truly a "child development center" I think. If you want to have your children to open up the world in their early stage, I highly recommend this school. read more

We appreciate the excellent job DI has done over the past 2 years while our daughter attended their daycare center. We had to recently move her to a closer location near home due to my work schedule and responsibilities. She was very happy there and we were sad that we had to move her. She thrived in the Infant Class, thanks to their nurturing and creativity. She always looked forward to seeing her teachers and all of her friends. As a new mom, they were very attentive to my needs (breastfeeding) and hers. The center supported us beyond what we imagined, everything we did at home, remained consistent at the center. They gave me peace of mind in knowing that she was in such good hands by constantly communicating with us via phone calls or emails. They also prepared monthly reports of any new developments and skills and included pictures of her daily activities and crafts. The management staff and teachers were always available if we had a concern or question. If done via email, they responded quickly on that day. It helps that each staff member is approachable and friendly. Every day they always remained pleasant, patient and kind. They encouraged my daughter and provided ample opportunities for her to engage in her new world through play using different textures and materials, toys, music and taught her to use sign language when she was too little to use words yet. They provided a safe environment for her to explore, though she had some bumps and bruises from her attempts at walking which is typical for a beginner. She loved playing outside as their area is separated from the older classes. They have lots of toys, like push toys, blocks, water table in a mostly shady area and they have plenty of room to roam. As a newborn she was surrounded by 1 year olds which provided an environment as if she had a sibling. They are separated for play; 1 teacher with the infants while 1 or 2 others with the 1 year olds or vice versa depending on the size or stats of the class. The infants have a padded area to roam, roll, explore, play and crawl. They do gather together for circle time and some other activities which helps the 1 year olds learn to be gentle while giving the little ones a glimpse and motivation into crawling, walking, and talking. The cleanliness was to my satisfaction, though their freezer could've used a good scrubbing. They took precautionary steps wiping down areas, toys, sheets, refrigerator handle and sanitizing these items during any cold/flu seasons. My daughter learned about colors, shapes, animals, seasons, camping, books, etc etc as each month they have a new theme. We loved how their play time was structured for fun and to learn. As another mother mentioned, it is a learning center not just a glorified babysitter like other centers out there. Our experience with them was great and we highly recommend them. My older daughter has been at DI for over four years and my younger daughter for almost one year. They both started there when they were 4-months-old. From the start, I have felt my daughters were in safe hands. Their health and safety have never been compromised. In fact, DI completely revamped their facility and drop-off/pick-up procedures to ensure the highest level of safety for the children. They also have appropriately strict health policies to ensure the children's wellness. The teachers and staff at DI treat the children with exceptional care and place their interests as top priority. They are all well-qualified, loving, and passionate individuals. Each child is given the specialized care and attention they need and deserve. I was quite amazed by the success the Beginners room teachers had in potty-training my daughter and others shortly after their second birthday. Also, the preschool teacher is top-notch. I am in awe of how much my daughter has grown, both emotionally and academically, over the past year. I owe much of this to her teacher(s). I have been very impressed with the curriculum at DI. Even as an infant, my daughters were creating art projects and participating in developmental exercises. My 1-year-old is learning baby sign language and can already hold a crayon properly. My 4-year-old is leaps and bounds ahead of children her own age who attend other preschools. She knows several words in Spanish, including counting to 15; and recently impressed me with her knowledge of Claude Monet. Lastly, I appreciate DI's flexible scheduling. It allows for cost savings to families who do not require full-time care. I know not all daycare/preschool facilities offer this. They also offer sibling discounts and vacation credits. I have never hesitated in recommending DI to other families. It has proven time and time again to be the best choice for my daughters and their futures. read more

We went to do the tour. We were received and asked to fill in a form with details. After we were done a teacher greeted us and started guiding us towards the tour. We spent around 10-15 minutes with her as she explained the curriculum and other program details. The teacher seemed to be polite and made us feel comfortable. While we were in the middle of tour, I guess it was the director who rushed into classroom and offered an apology for interrupting, introduced a different family (who came to tour) to the same teacher we were with. So the teacher abruptly ends talking to us and started to discuss the details with the other family. Not even a word for us to either wait or explain the next steps. We were expecting maybe they were going to talk to us about fee structure and schedule. No Nothing of that sort!!! We realized that their goal was to attain business by engaging as many tours as they could or they were deliberately acting rude. If this was their courtesy towards guests, what values and ideals would these people impart into a budding child's mind. We walked out from there. On our way out, we again had to go through the same reception area. So while leaving luckily the staff in that area never bothered to pay any attention. They were busy receiving other people and goading them for their personal details. WOW!!! Definitely won't recommend this place! read more

This is a good daycare facility. I've looked at a lot of them and the the fact that they have camera's for your to see your child speaks volumes about them. They are a bit pricy but you get what you pay for and some. My son was in another day care that was even pricier and their "spanish enrichment" program was watching TV in spanish. Kids here go out and play. The two teachers in David's class are nice and caring. The administrative people are easy to work with. If the price was a bit lower and they took credit cards without charging 5% extra, I would give them a 5/5.... read more

Our son and daughter have been attending DI for almost a year. We are super pleased with DI and so grateful that we made the decision to enroll them in DI. Our son is in the intermediate class and our daughter is in the infant room. The teachers are absolutely fabulous and go out of their way to make sure each child feels special, loved and respected. Our son loves his teachers so much that he will often "call" them on his play phone while we are at home to chat. He looks forward to going to "school" and is learning a lot. His teachers are able to keep him interested in learning and that has really shown through at home as well. Each week consists of a theme and lessons (including Spanish) are taught surrounding that theme. At the end of the week, the children are encouraged to bring a share item from home representing the theme of the week. This is one of our son's favorite times of the week. It gives us a chance to talk with him about the theme and gives him the opportunity to put it all together. Our daughter is in the infant room and drop-offs can be hard (more so for me than her). I can rest assured that she will be getting tender loving care all day. Whenever she is having a rough drop-off, there is always a warm hug ready for her from one of her fabulous teachers. Her teachers will often send me pictures of her throughout the week (which just makes my day)! DI offers some other services that I have not found consistently at other schools. DI provides breakfast for the children who arrive in the early morning and snacks in the afternoon. They send home a report on each child daily that lists their nap and eating schedule along with any pertinent notes from the day. Additionally, twice a year, DI sends a detailed report home with the child indicating where the child is at developmentally and socially for their age. All of the teachers at DI feel like our extended family and we feel blessed to have found such a wonderful safe, caring and nurturing environment for our children. I would recommend DI to any parent looking to enroll their preschooler in a program. read more

My little one attended Discovery Isle for short period of time. One of the 2 teachers in his classroom always seemed extremely disinterested. She would never make any meaningful eye contact or talk. My little one who is otherwise extremely happy to go to the school in general cried even during the 5th week there (whereas he was extremely happy to go to the other preschool he was attending from day 2). The teachers always misspelled his name in his daily report even after I told them so. I took him out and started him in another preschool where he adjusted very well within a day. My 4 year old daughter is just finishing her preschool year at Discovery Isle, and we have been very happy with our experience. My daughter is very attached to me, and I was concerned about her being comfortable with separation. While their suggestion was for me to quickly drop her off and let them handle the tearfulness, after a few repetitions of her wrapping herself around me like a velcro sweater and screaming like she was being tortured, I decided to try a different approach--coming early to read her a book and then quietly leaving once circle time started. I was very thankful that they were flexible in allowing me to do this and the she gained confidence over the year. There were a few more tearful mornings, but the staff were so sweet to take her hand and help her through her sadness. Ms. Dream's class was very well-run and organized. I'm not sure how they get a group of 20+ 4 yrs olds to be so cooperative, but they've clearly got the system down. I've observed staff intervening when kids stepped out of line, and I liked how they were always focused on gently teaching them the skills they need to develop, particularly in terms of how to be social beings ("Use words to tell him you don't want him to do that.") My daughter had trouble engaging with other children at the start, and the teachers helped her learn how to initiate, sometimes had kids buddy up with partners so that she could learn to build relationships with peers. Now my daughter has several little girls she considers her friends and I seem them run up to her and give hugs at the start of the day. I was also very happy with the hours for part-time attendance. Many preschools have a 3-4 hour part day program, but here it's up to 5.5 hrs. As far as I could tell, they also did a good job of teaching the academics to prepare kids for kindergarten, but that was less of a concern for me than the social-emotional part. I'm happy that my daughter will be heading off to kindergarten with confidence and a positive outlook on going to school. read more
