We love this place. My daughter loves the outdoor exhibit the best. The indoor exhibits look small from the outside, but there is something much inside! We always have a great time here.

Discovery Museum hosts "Especially for Me" events and we're regular attendees for the Autism night. https://www.discoveryacton.org/visit/especially-me Oh my goodness do we adore this museum!!! We drove from 1.5 hours away to visit with our six year old daughter and her infant brother. There's so much to do!!! You're welcomed by the sculpture of "Bessie" the brontosaurus. There's a stool next to Bessie for kids to climb up and take photos. When the weather is nice, lots outside, including a large "tree house" area and playground with slides. There's a "fairy town" that has interactive outdoor instruments. Inside there are 3 floors of awesome. Lobby level there is an optical illusions exhibit, wicked fun interactive water play, wind tubes, musical instruments exhibit, magnets, and most of the time a shadow making exhibit - but in the winter that's replaced with "sock skating"!!! The second floor has "Davinci's Workshop" where kids can make crafts. There's a train room, play restaurant, forest at night, and some fun physics exhibits. Third floor is small but has a kid size fishing ship, ships wheels for kids to turn, dress up, a porthole, and view outside of the roof. We always have a wonderful time and it's worth the trip to visit!

Great place for children of all ages! Enjoyed with my almost 2 year old. They had many activities going on, water play, outdoor exploration areas. Extremely clean and friendly staff. Highly recommend making an online reservation. We are a military family and admission was free for us!

Was so nervous when I found out the school was going here because I knew how small the place was and could never imagine 5 Kindergarten classes... So off we went (I was a Chaperon)... and come to find out there is another building up the road, I have only been to the first little house building... This is place is a bit bigger, a little old and outdated but more than enough things for the kids to find to do... As other reviews have stated an 8 Year old would have been bored, but these 5 year olds had a blast... The people that worked there didnt really seem to have any business working with children, I had heard on more than one occasion lets stop & relax, Listening Ears, Inside Voices, Really these are 5 years olds... They dont really work well with Inside ears & voices... But I got past that... Would never go without a school function as the cost in no means is worth what they offer but with a Field Trip - Sure... They were all a little put off that we arrived & still had to feed the kids, like really its 1030, we arent going to be done until 130 then we get on the bus - YES we need to feed the kids, Its a law!!! Other than just not feeling the love for the staff it was an ok place... Just a little old & outdated... and most of the little things were missing major pieces (balls, Tops, Spinners)

My 3 year old had the best time. I'm an educator and I got in for free which was a total bonus.

This is a very nice play to take your children. The inside is wonderful and the outside is very decorative.

But don't get me wrong- this bonsai haven is worth the trip. They are one of the most friendly and experienced bonsai shops around. Just ask for the father-daughter duo, Emmy and Michael! As first time bonsai parents, we were rightfully dubious in our efforts to keep these miniature trees alive. But with the help of Emmy and Michael, we left with a new found confidence in our plant rearing abilities. And I'm happy to report that our baby jade bonsai is still thriving. There are a plethora of bonsai variations; choosing the right one depends on where you plan to keep/plant these beauties (we were told). In the colder months, they have services to take care of your bonsais for you. And it seems like many bonsai owners utilize this service! If you want to supplement your bonsai purchase with a bonsai guide book, fertilizer, soil, you name it- they have it here! If you're ready to commit to a lifelong relationship with a bonsai, I highly recommend stopping by and browsing- this place will definitely have something for everyone! And you'll be in good hands!

My entire trip to the Concord area was a transcendental pilgrimage in its own right, and my day alone in the home of seclusion's champion was more than meaningful. I read all the exhibit panels, wrote at the little desk by the window, picnicked on the lovely grounds for lunch, and read Emerson's "Read, then Write." I might have even slept a little in the peaceful, bird-sung quiet. It was a gift to have the entire day in this place, to see the shift of sunlight across the eaves, to contemplate the coming year. The staff made it so easy - they worked with me to shift days - and they made me feel absolutely welcome. It was quite humbling to have a key of my very own for the day! I came away with good written words, good philosophy, and a belief in the actuality of personal connection with literary heroes. Thank you for allowing it to happen!

It is a privilege to spend time in the very room that this American author was born. As the author and illustrator of eight children's books on Thoreau, I can attest that the Writer's Retreat has provided me the impetus for creating them during the numerous times I attended the Writer's Retreat. One might say that they were conceived in that room where many of my words and illustrations began. The Writer's Retreat provides a quiet space where one might write, read, and be reflective. It is beneficial to the amateur or professional writer or to anyone who just needs a space to think and read. The Farm is in a rural setting where one may take a meditative walk and is a special treasure. Imagine writing or reading on a replica of Henry's own green desk where he wrote his works. It is wonderful to have the opportunity to have a place to rest and think without any distractions in the room where Henry was born. Rebecca Migdal, Executive Director of the Thoreau Farm: Birthplace of Henry David Thoreau, is warm and welcoming to anyone who visits the Thoreau Farm or uses the Writer's Retreat. During the time I spent at this special place, Rebecca made me feel very comfortable. Rebecca's cheerful demeaner makes any visitor feel special and at ease. I highly encourage anyone who needs a space for quiet reflection or pursue literary endeavors to spend a day or two at the Writer's Retreat.
