I will simply say that this restaurant only exists because of the single dining experience of a weary traveler staying in the connected hotel. The food is lackluster for the price, an $18 bowl of clam chowder should knock my socks off, but it didn't. The fish and chips were severely over-breaded, they don't have malt vinegar in the bottle, a thimble full is supposed to suffice. They attempt to give gargantuan orders of fries to appease the mediocre preparation of the main entree. Get an UBER or go across the street to Buffs, but by all means do not waste your time and money at this establishment. Come here for a social event? Perhaps? Expecting reasonable service is unlikely to be realized. The service was poor and the minimal food I had access to was fair at best. I attended an event being held at this restaurant and was surprised and disappointed in the restaurant. The networking event itself is not being reviewed here. So where to start... accessing the restaurant was a bit of a nightmare. The garage (parking is $4-24) was the only place to park and the elevators were out of order and the garage was dimly lit. It was frankly not safe. The driveways were partially blocked for construction which I had to navigate around as a pedestrian. This is not realistically accessible for those who have mobility limitations (the temporary attempts at ramps are not usable with a wheelchair). I was given beverage menus after arrival. They were extremely hard to read as the lighting was turned down. I did manage to read it when I put the menu directly under a pendant. The beer and wine selections looked interesting! I was looking for something non-alcoholic and there was no water readily available nor offered. There were a few (maybe 4) mocktails on the menu-they looked interesting so I got one that resembled a mule (ginger beer based). I ordered one so I wouldn't be empty handed as I talked with people, especially at a networking event. The server gave it to me and made a point of saying "here is your mocktail" (which itself is not unreasonable; referring it by its name or "beverage" is much more appropriate in those circumstances as the drink type and alcohol content or lack thereof is not anyone else's business). The food menu never appeared. The appetizers that were left out for the group were picked over and unappetizing. Cold fried calamari that has been sitting out? No thanks. A cheese and cracker board with no crackers and no serving implements? No thanks. There were two flatbreads there-I had a small square of each and these were ok. About 15 minutes before the event was scheduled to end the server asked me if I wanted another mocktail. I responded with an affirmative. I assumed he had canceled the order as the event ended. As I was getting ready to leave when the event ended (I had my jacket on at that point and he had validated my parking!), he brings over the mocktail and says "here is your mocktail" and sets it on the high top table where it just sat as I left for home. I have no idea if he charged the hosts for the beverage. I left hungry. I left a bit thirsty. I left surprisingly frustrated at the restaurant. When I arrived home, I made myself dinner. Fortunately, I enjoyed meeting new people as the event itself was interesting. read more

I really want to like this place but...been here twice. First time I had the steak tops with fries, delicious. Ordered a Paloma and tasted more like a margarita - fail. Second time - ordered easy wings and steak fries. The fries were supposed to have truffle and parmesan cheese but lacked both. Ordered a Paloma and it tasted watered down - fail. Staying in the hotel connected to Social and it would be great to just enjoy a good cocktail without leaving. On the bright side, service was great. Came in with a friend on the Friday night of Labor Day weekend, we needed dinner and drinks and she had been here once before (my first time). While 7pm on a Friday in Newton Corner can sometimes be crazy, we parked right out front but they have free parking in the garage if you need it. We sat at the bar (always fun and better people-watching!), I don't know the bartender's name but she had dark blonde/brown hair in a ponytail and glasses, she was very nice and had our great drinks ready right away. We both ordered cheeseburgers and the fries were AMAZING (herbs with butter, I think???). While my burger wasn't the medium-well that I ordered, it was so juicy and delicious that I didn't mind the pink at all (obviously, due to my empty plate). People came in and out all night, both from the street as well as the connected hotel. Great crowd, food and staff here so I will definitely be back! read more

I went in during dinner to order takeout, and decided on the clam chowder. Both the bartender and waiter taking my order were friendly. It took some time to prepare, waited at least 15 minutes at the bar. I was pretty disappointed in the portion for the cost. It costs $18 for a cup of soup not filled to the top. I am currently sitting in the restaurant....just spoke with the General Manager. He advised me that the ownership dictates that any side order substitution results in a $2 to $3 upcharge...in other word to change from fries to mashed or rice results in a charge. We had our 40th HS reunion at the adjoining Sheraton Four Points on a Saturday. So we decided to have a music night at the restaurant the night before where my friend's bands played. We loved it there! They were very accommodating, very appreciative of live music, and the food and drinks were outstanding. And so friendly. I just wish they had one more bartender that night as we packed that place. Everyone had so much fun and it was a wonderful experience. I would totally recommend for anyone having a big get together or music gathering as they have a stage that can hold a 4 piece band and an additional large dining area where people can eat in peace if they want. read more

My company had a happy hour event for 90 guests on a Thursday afternoon. Bill was so responsive and helpful during the planning of the event including special dietary restriction requests. He was able to execute everything that I had asked for from drinks to food! His team gave great service! Our appetizer buffet was presented well and the food was delicious! The bar back TWICE took away a glass and food before we were done. Really??? Pay attention. And try not to look offended when asked for something. Isn't it why you're there? The service (aside from the altercation) was good, and the bartender we were dealing with was considerate enough to offer an apology though we find no fault with him. The rest of the staff was a delight, and very positive. The team went out of their way at the beginning of the evening to make sure my group had a good amount of space and special consideration. The interaction below was only with the owner of the venue.] I was hosting a social event on 5/4 with my group. It was a light costume event, and one of my customers - a young woman in her mid-twenties - was approached by a man in his late fifties to early sixties. He told her that she and the rest of my group were d*vil worshipers and s*tanists, and deserved to d*e or go to h*ll. After this was brought to my attention, I approached the man and convinced him to leave the group alone. He was *severely* intoxicated, but we spoke calmly. In the middle of this, the male bartender started shouting at me to stop speaking with him, and before I could even respond to the bartender, another man (I later found out was the owner), physically pushed me back. The other man was escorted out of the bar. The owner told me that he had to make sure the other man was safe (they made no effort to provide the same assurance of safety to the young woman that was part of my group.) My group was hosting this event at the bar as a sort of litmus test to see if we would return for future events. This unfortunate situation took place at about 12:45 AM - 15 minutes before the venue closed. It is only Monday the 6th, but I have not heard from the bar and my group - including the young woman directly affected - was not given an apology or any additional consideration. I am deeply disappointed. My group will not be returning until I and my customer receive an apology for the unwarranted physical contact from the owner, and the preferential treatment the abusive man received over myself and my customer. I am very open to amending this review (and others) if this situation is resolved. read more

The problem came when the thanksgiving sandwich I received came to the table IT WAS AN OPEN FACED SANDWICH. Meaning that the sandwich ingredients are just sitting on top of the bread. SITTING ON TWO PIECES OF BREAD. Meaning all the sandwich ingredients were there to make it handheld, but instead were throw on top for some artistic flare. Overall it was advertised as open face to begin with, but I didn't know what that meant and nobody explained that to me beforehand. Ended up stealing my dates bread to complete my sandwich. This place is pretty good, especially for a hotel bar. The steak medallions were delicious and cooked perfectly, and the scallops with risotto entrée was fantastic. Just what you want in scallops, and a nice rich salty risotto. The service was good as well, there was a mishap with one of my dishes and they comped it, so all was well. Only drawback is the mac & cheese, pretty forgettable. Especially for the price. I would give this place four stars if the mac & cheese wasn't so bad. Some of the 2 star reviews are super confusing. I don't want to sound biased... I've only been here for lunch. I'm not too sure about what it's like for dinner or brunch, but my lunch visits have been pretty stellar. It was my friend's birthday, and she decided that she wanted to go to Social. So we went, I ordered, and ate our hearts out. Birthday girl got the chicken flat bread and my other friend and I ordered the burgers. This burger was the one of the best I've had. It had bacon aioli, sauteed onions, and the tomatoes and lettuce were chopped up and mixed into the bacon aioli and then was topped onto the burger, whichever way you wanted your burger cooked. The aioli almost tenderized the meat a little, based on taste and blend of ingredients on the meat. The bun also had this toasty, sweet brioche taste to it, and it was just so damn good. The fries were equally tasty. Parmesan cheese with herbs atop perfectly cooked potatoes. Oh comfort food gods...thanks for introducing Social to us. And here's the icing on the burger cake. Out of nowhere appeared two molten chocolate lava cakes with ice cream. I didn't say anything to the waiter and neither did my friend that it was our friend's birthday. When the birthday girl went to ask about red wines on the list, she mentioned that it was her birthday. I'm sure this prompted the arrival of the chocolate cakes to our table. I never really noticed this place before because the location is kind of tough, but I'm glad I finally had a chance to check it out! Had dinner here with my family on friday night and had a great time. Viviane was our waitress and she was helpful and attentive. To start we had the calamari and the cheesesteak sliders. We enjoyed both, but the calamari was especially delicious. I loved that the cherry peppers were breaded and fried too. For dinner I had the steak tips served with broccoli, steak fries, and grilled red onion. Every component was cooked nicely and very flavorful. Others at the table had the bishop burger, the seared organic salmon (served with custom sides, no problem!), and the baked mac and cheese with pork belly. Everyone had great things to say with the exception of the pork belly. It wasn't the best, but still good. For dessert we shared nutella bread pudding and LOVED it. The atmosphere in the restaurant could have been a bit better, and maybe some better music too, but overall, I liked Social and would definitely return. read more

I've been here mroe than a few times because the location is perfect for me to grab a drink with a friend on the way home without going too far out of either of our ways. Appetizers are mostly boring (although I'm a huge fan of the calamari, because it's an interesting take on it). Both drinks and food are over priced for both quantity and quality (and I'm a person who has no problem spending a lot on something exceptional). Service is spotty. I've had great attentive table service and I've been largely ignored at the bar. Then I've had adequate service on other occasions on both counts. Still, if you're headed west from Boston and need a quiet place with a nice atmosphere and some free parking for a Pinot Noir... Social fits the bill. read more

We were trying to find a place that wasn't too inexpensive and could host a group of 10 girls for a bridal shower. PLUS- free validated parking! It wasn't easy booking a reservation/room with the event person. They have a specific person that does events and so when your calling it in through the phone, the hostess on the phone would not know what's going on. So it wasn't as seamless as you would think. Getting a response was hot/cold. I would sometimes get a response right away and other times I had to wait a few days. The brunch menu has many different options for everyone and the price point was competitive compared to other brunch places. The waiter was phenomenal! He was very helpful and made sure we were happy with our choices and that our drinks were always full. At the end of the day I was not up for leaving my hotel but I don't have faith in hotel restaurants. I only wanted something small to take to my room. I found out they had a happy hour at the bar. I chose the Chorizo Tacos and the Fried Brie to go. The waitstaff was knowledgeable and accommodating. I had a feeling there wasn't any silverware in the bag. I was right. Got to my room, fortunately I stole a table setting just Incase. The Brie tasted like chlorine, chemicals something. It desperately needed salt. I had no idea how to eat it without crackers, fruit or a fork????? Baffling The Chorizo Tacos were ok, it came with 2 certainly ok for $5. The one thing I don't get a The wilted pea shoots on everything. I know it's a garnish but it wilts from the heat before it hit your table and when you get a piece in Stuck in your teeth I mean it's just unpleasant. The meal as a whole was ok, not the Brie but I would try something else from the happy hour menu when staying at the hotel. But for no other reason. read more

I have no idea what I was expecting, but I was blown away. I was staying at the Four Points hotel that this restaurant is attached to and ended up going down there for dinner because it was late and I was hungry. I ordered a burger and my mom ordered the cheesesteak sliders. I never really finish my full meal at restaurants, but I happily polished off my burger and fries. I ordered a simple burger, but it was AMAZING. And the fries were unreal - they were seasoned and crisped to perfection. Of course, the service was lovely and the atmosphere is really cozy and comfortable. I was staying at this hotel while my mom was visiting me from Florida, but I gotta say, that meal was so good, I am absolutely going to be coming back to this restaurant another time. read more

This was the Carolina Fried Chicken. Sounded yummy but wasn't at all. Came out super dark like it was fried in old oil and also was very mushy, which is not the texture you expect from chicken. Wasn't tasty at all. We just picked at it. Hoped it would get better with desserts. Ordered the beignets. Don't look like typical beignets at all. They didn't taste like them either. They were very dense. Not fluffy at all. And where was the powdered sugar ?? We were super disappointed with our meals. Drinks are fine but probably would hear back for dinner in the near future.
