This team has a way with the puppies!!! My dog is afraid of everything and has an irrational fear of being examined. In ten years she's never been this calm with an examination. I'm very happy with our visit today!! (First timer)

From my 1st visit to my 4th visit to Dupont Vet Clinic for Hercules (my new puppy) vaccines and neuter procedure. Service was outstanding! After having a bad experience at one of the local Vet Clinics in the area. I decided to try Dupont Vet Clinic. Scheduling my first appointment online, to Hercules last appointment for a while. The service was professional with empathy. Upon arriving for Hercules 1st Visit (a very cold day), the Front Desk Asst. advised that a Vet Asst. will be out shortly to get Hercules. I truly appreciated the Vet Asst. came out right away which was a relief and took Hercules in. A short time afterwards, Dr. Dan called, introduce himself, asks questions and explain the shots he would be administrating and advised regarding follow-up appts. to complete the vaccines for puppies his age. Dr. Dan went a step further to advise the pros and cons regarding getting Hercules neutered. I weighted the pros and cons of the procedure and ultimately, I decided to get the neutering procedure. Dr. Dan compassionate nature for his job, took the time to call the day after Hercules neuter procedure to check on him. I was so impressed! However, between visits, I had questions and concerns that the Front Desk Asst. was able to assist and gave good advice. In regards, to the Vet Asst., when Hercules was finished with his appointments, and the Vet Asst. brought back him to me, the Vet Asst. would reiterate Dr. Dan's instructions to make sure I understood how to administer medication. Plus, I was told Hercules became comfortable and active around the team. I believe the Dupont Vet Clinic has passion for their work and care for the pets and that contribute to the animals feeling a sense of Love. I will continue to bring Hercules to Dupont Vet Clinic.

TL;DR: They, literally, watched my dog decline (and die the next day) in front of their eyes DURING our appointment and said "you'll have to make another appointment." So let's go back... We're new to the 'hood. We come in with our two fur babies for getting their shots updated. They actually muzzle Ozzie. Dear reader, he is 12 lbs and had 2 teeth. Even our cat just stands her ground and is all "yeah, ok." Big bark and, literally, no bite. He was terribly abused when we got him. And he's absolutely the sweetest thing. The one tech, literally, jumped up on the table to get away from him. And he didn't even approach her, he just barked. He's a traveler and we're movers. He's been to over 10 vets in different cities. This was the first time anyone had the audacity to muzzle him. There was no need. Huge red flag. (And has we tell this story to our neighbors, we hear "OMG, same thing here!" These are vets and techs who straight up do NOT like animals and do NOT know how to work with them.) So despite that first drama and red flag, we go back. Eddie is 14.5 yrs old and suddenly can't really walk well. We make an appointment and take him in. DURING the appointment he goes from walking in the door to his back legs, literally, no longer working. He couldn't stand, move, or anything. We're in tears. The vet says "Well, that's not the reason you made the appointment, so you'll need to make a new appointment." Uh, no, this was the reason. There's something happening. Welp, dear reader, he passed that weekend. We left this place and went immediately to VEG (the ER vet), who then sent us for an MRI in the middle of the night at a vet ER in Annapolis. The next morning, we got the call that a tumor was, very literally, breaking his back. The vet here gave him gabapentin and kicked us out. WHILE SHE, LITERALLY, WATCHED HIM GO FROM WALKING TO NOT BEING ABLE TO MOVE HIS BACK LEGS. What. The. Actual. Fuck. The people here do NOT care about your pets. Not in the slightest. They are rude. They are scared of the animals they claim to "treat." They are the worst. I cannot comprehend how they have good reviews. And yet, everyone we talk to in the neighborhood relays stories like ours. If you love your pet, do NOT take them here. Stay far far away. They are worthless and uncaring. Never in my life of 10+ different vets in different states have we ever encountered such "treatment."

Since I had a primary vet, there was no need for me to return on a regular basis but they left a good impression. Now, I have an elderly dog with a terminal condition and needed a hospital to visit for a non-critical emergency need. I had taken him to another hospital nearby the week prior, and they suggested I make the decision to put him down over the weekend despite the fact that he's eating, drinking, playing and sleeping as normal. They thought his nasal tumor growth had progressed enough to impact his quality of life. What they didn't catch was that his new, swelling over his eye was actually a huge abscess that then erupted two days after getting an injectable antibiotic. Quite frankly, it was disgusting and caught me way off guard but it also became immediately clear that once ruptured my dog's eye visibility resumed (despite a very messy process to recognize that.) To ensure that there wasn't any additional care needed for the abscess site, I set up an appointment here because I refused to go back to the other hospital. Luckily, from the moment I arrived I picked up on good vibes. The vet tech that I met with first had done a great job reviewing all of the notes and health history files I had sent over prior to the appointment so I pretty much only had to just confirmed the accuracy, Dr. Thomas Landes then came in and he was just wonderful. He was friendly and asked thoughtful questions to better understand the current state of affairs. I was appreciative how communicative he was throughout my dog's exam (commenting positively on things like my dog's strong heartbeat) and they proposed a game plan for next steps. They took him back, further took care of the abscess and gave me some instruction on how to manage the care at home. Honestly, it was just so refreshing to have a positive but realistic doctor that had a great understanding on my dog's life stage and was helpful in ensuring that my dog received care as well as maintains a high quality of life as long as possible. Grateful to have DIstrict Vet nearby should any other non-emergency needs come up in this late stage of my dog's life.

FHA was the closest facility to take her to. I was extremely grateful for the urgency they showed when I came in. They immediately recognized the urgency of the situation and whisked her away for oxygen treatment. After she was stabilized, the DR went over diagnosis options and costs. They stated due to her temperament, she would need to be sedated. I know my baby and was well aware that she was not going to voluntarily cooperate. I usually give her Gabapentin before a vet visit. The costs were extremely high but that is also to be expected for ER care and par for the location. They were very transparent with the costs and I did not feel any pressure. We approved the estimate and were told they would contact us once all the tests were completed. After approximately 2 hours, we did not hear from anyone so I called for an update. I was told they were still "trying to sedate her". I was surprised that no tests had been performed in that 2 hour period. We received an update about 4 hours later that we could pick her up. Upon meeting with the DR. the very first thing she tells me is that Lucy bit one of the techs. Am I surprised that she would try to do so, absolutely not. I am surprised that with their experience and as trained professionals, they were not able to prevent this. She was under their control and care. I of course apologize and the DR went on to explain the results of the tests, etc. Here is where I have a major issue. I receive a call at work the next day from Animal Control that the hospital filed a report of the incident. The representative from Animal Control explained that this is a requirement, etc. FHA never mentioned the requirement and I was completely caught off guard. I get that it was required but professionalism would have dictated informing me of this. Not sure I would bring her there again unless it was a last resort emergency situation as this was.

I wanted a place that was more of a locally-owned office, hoping it would result in more personalized care and attention. That has been the complete opposite of what I've experienced of this terrible operation. This is an office run by a father and son vet. Our first visit was with Dr. Jerrold Boone (the son) and my partner and I were slightly confused by his evaluation. During our first visit, he went off (without us prompting) on how he was not responsible for the death of a dog from nearby Life of Riley (a pet hotel, which is known for several dog deaths...Google it!). Apparently, they bring the dogs to this vet. Dr. Boone insisted he didn't kill any of them. Okay, we didn't think that. But maybe we should now? He also has incorrectly written up the dog's prescriptions, which is incredibly concerning as our dog has a number of health problems and needs his medication and accurate dosage. The next visit, we saw his father, Dr. James Boone. We surely thought he must be better. But in fact, he was even worse. Our dog had a growth on its body and we were wondering what it could be. He said it could be cancer. Or it might not be. It could be anything. Well, we were certainly glad we made that visit. He also got weirdly transfixed on a comment my partner made about the dog occasionally having an accident in the house, which then took up the majority of our visit. The final straw is the way we felt treated by the front desk. They often would pick up, then immediately put us on hold. They of course were never friendly, and sometimes would hang up before we could even ask them anything. On a recent call, I asked for the prescription to be refilled for my dog for a medication that was vital for his survival. I called it in that morning, and when I called back, they INSISTED that they called it in. I called my pharmacy, and they never got a call. I had to call the vet back again, and learned the reason it couldn't get filled was that the hospital tried to give a different pill size dosage. It's a discrepancy but they should have called me back. They knew this medication was vital and now it was the end of the day. The vet had to re-issue the prescription but by this point, my pharmacy was closed so I had to send it to the nearby CVS (not ideal, but whatever). I gave them the exact address, and went to the CVS pharmacy...waited in that line (we all know!) and when I got to the front, they actually didn't have the prescription. Where was it? At another CVS pharmacy over 5 miles away. I don't have a car in DC so I then had to get an Uber, just so I could get my dog's medication. This incompetency runs SO deep here. You've been warned. And I've now switched to another vet that is nowhere near me but was referred by another doctor. Here's hoping they are an improvement. Honestly, they couldn't be much worse.

Since the practice was sold, one change in particular has made things unnecessarily difficult: prescriptions for outside pharmacies can no longer be sent electronically. I confirmed with my pharmacist at Chewy that they are willing and able to receive electronic prescriptions, but District Vet will not send them. Instead, clients now have to request a written prescription and then coordinate getting it to the pharmacy themselves. In a time when digital prescribing is standard--and when people are already dealing with rising costs and busy schedules--this extra step feels avoidable and inconvenient. It's hard not to feel like this policy discourages clients from using more affordable or preferred outside pharmacy options. I understand that change is part of any business, but it's disappointing when those changes make things harder for long-time clients. I hope the practice reconsiders policies like this and continues to prioritize the convenience and trust of the pet owners who have supported them for years. Spread the word and provide District Vet your feedback on this change.
