I've been taking my dog to DuPont Vet for about 3 years -- it's overpriced and the vets there always seem a bit rushed, but they could fit us in and other places had a waitlist, so I never got around to finding a different vet. Today, though, was the last straw. After spending 20 minutes circling and looking for parking, we showed up 12 minutes late to our appointment. When we walked in, despite the waiting room being totally empty, we were told there is a strict 10-minute policy, so our appointment was canceled. The receptionist seemed almost gleeful turning us away. You deserve better. Find a vet who actually cares about your pet. read more

I recently took my dog to DuPont Vet Clinic where we were attended by Dante and Dr. Kovalik. I was extremely pleased that after 5 months, Dr. Kovalik was able to confirm that my dog had ruptured her CCL. My dog had been limping on her hind leg for 5 months- has been seen by Bond Vet and another orthopedic surgeon and had been told repeatedly that her limping was being cussed by her hip dysplasia. I'm not denying that she has HD, but the limping is most likely due to a torn CCL. Called the emergency number when they were closed and no one answered or got back to me after going there for many years and never having a problem with them. I called two days later to figure out what happened and the receptionist Sierra answered and was EXTREMELY rude to me. I've been going to this office with multiple cats for 30 years. Almost all of the cats and office staff and vet techs have been super kind, competent and helpful. I was inspired to write a review today because my cat got extra awesome care from Dr. Yallof and staff. He is hyper anxios about vet visits and panics when restrained, so Dr. Yallof got down on the floor with him and distracted him during the exam and were so gentle he didn't even notice the rabies vaccine. My friend's cat's time had come and he let her know, as our animals often do, that it was time. My friend doesn't post on social media or other sites, but she wanted to express how much she appreciated the care and the thoughtfulness that DuPont vet provided during such a difficult time. Took my cat to this vet for years. They initially misdiagnosed my cat with cancer -- turns out it was just bad IBD. Then when she took a turn for the worse and was on death's door and I asked to put her down with dignity, they said no and made me feel bad for suggesting it. She died two weeks later in a very traumatizing and painful way. I will not be taking my future cats here and cannot in good conscience recommend to other cat parents this business. Great vets, but the practice management is awful. They fired us as a patient because I told them to reimburse me for a visit that they dishonestly booked as for a specialist. The vet was very good and honestly told me that I need to see a specialist. The practice manager then called me to send me off as a patient. They did reimburse me for the visit tho. With so many options, I'm so glad I took my buddy's suggestion to come here. Poor LW had some serious dental issues. After getting an appointment within a couple days, they offered some meds to ease the pain and inflammation before the appointment. I wish they took human patients! This office is so, so, so great from the front desk staff to the vet techs to the vets! They always take time to understand my concerns and explain things to me thoroughly - I never feel rushed. My dog recently had an emergency that needed urgent care. Dupont Vet couldn't fit us in, but they sent us all of my dog's records and even followed up the next day just to see how it went. I have had nothing but amazing experiences. There are closer vets, but the service is worth the extra travel! My dog actually enjoys going to the vet and gets excited when he even sees the office door. We've been taking one of our cats to Dupont Vet for some time now & they were instrumental in helping us get her official asthma diagnosis & on medication. We recently adopted a second cat & found out within a week of bringing her home, thanks to Dupont Vet, that she was dealing with an intestinal blockage. They scheduled her surgery within a day & the team was absolutely incredible--everybody in the office is so kind, helpful & supportive & they made us feel at ease during an otherwise stressful time. Horrible place. Don't entrust your dog to these deplorables. Grooming first: for no good reason they cage your Dog for 8 hours WITHOUT WATER. AND THE WORK IS TERRIBLE. BTW: you never, ever get out the door for less that $300. The products they force on you are far from the best. Do your homework on The Whole Dog and ignore Dupont Vet Btw, since the "owner" has repLIED, let me add that these people work for a corporation that also owns Palisades Vet Clinic on McArthur Ave NW. They too have problems treating dogs with the type of care I expect from professions. They failed my dog on the day he had reconstructive knee surgery and then provided with cat medicine. Hmmmm. I've had dogs my entire life. But only one veterinarian who has unfortunately retired. He owned the practice. Perhaps that's the difference between a mere employee drawing a paycheck and someone who stands by his/her medical skills and humanitarianism. DuPont really spend a lot of time trying to establish itself as something other than a corporate subsidiary making money on our furry loved ones. From my 1st visit to my 4th visit to Dupont Vet Clinic for Hercules (my new puppy) vaccines and neuter procedure. Service was outstanding! After having a bad experience at one of the local Vet Clinics in the area. I decided to try Dupont Vet Clinic. Scheduling my first appointment online, to Hercules last appointment for a while. The service was professional with empathy. Upon arriving for Hercules 1st Visit (a very cold day), the Front Desk Asst. advised that a Vet Asst. will be out shortly to get Hercules. I truly appreciated the Vet Asst. came out right away which was a relief and took Hercules in. A short time afterwards, Dr. Dan called, introduce himself, asks questions and explain the shots he would be administrating and advised regarding follow-up appts. to complete the vaccines for puppies his age. Dr. Dan went a step further to advise the pros and cons regarding getting Hercules neutered. I weighted the pros and cons of the procedure and ultimately, I decided to get the neutering procedure. Dr. Dan compassionate nature for his job, took the time to call the day after Hercules neuter procedure to check on him. I was so impressed! However, between visits, I had questions and concerns that the Front Desk Asst. was able to assist and gave good advice. In regards, to the Vet Asst., when Hercules was finished with his appointments, and the Vet Asst. brought back him to me, the Vet Asst. would reiterate Dr. Dan's instructions to make sure I understood how to administer medication. Plus, I was told Hercules became comfortable and active around the team. I believe the Dupont Vet Clinic has passion for their work and care for the pets and that contribute to the animals feeling a sense of Love. RICHARD COHEN, PRACTICE MANAGER, was rude, offensive, and insensitive. I have been unemployed by COVID since March 2020 and thought I could ask about payment options when the procedures cost hundreds more than was estimated. I saved up as much as I could but was understandably strained. Shockingly, in a very accusatory tone, RICHARD COHEN asked why I don't already have the money upfront when an estimate had been given in advance. I was shocked into silence by his inappropriate tone and more inappropriate question. If an upfront payment is the only option, he absolutely could have told me this in a calm professional manner, especially considering how stressed I was about my pet being in surgery. I immediately offered to charge the full amount upfront to avoid further bullying. RICHARD COHEN DID NOT strive "to spend as much time as necessary to answer any questions that clients may have.....and giving realistic options for treatment plans that meet a person's stated budget." (Dupont Vet's own claim in a Google response) The receptionist SHOCKINGLY became defensive herself, even after I emphasized I knew she was not involved with the situation-- I just wanted someone to relay to him not to contact me again. At this point, I had already committed to paying in full. Yet when I asked about possible payment options, specifically about a credit card payment option I had heard of, she said this was 'not called a payment plan' and thus, it was not a 'technicality' for her not to mention it in the first place. Rather than recognizing the help I was asking for, she felt it was more important she was 'right' about something. I don't care if this was a one-off event. RICHARD COHEN and associate reacted with anger and rudeness based on the assumption I wouldn't pay. I COULD pay but wanted to hear all options before going into credit card debt! All of it was unfair and unnecessary. RICHARD COHEN and receptionist: Be more sensitive not just to me, but to all the other Americans who are struggling much worse than I am at this time. Seem to have taken on too many clients. My dog had a mild infection in one ear, a simple 10mins or less type appointment and send home antibiotics . The receptionist said it would be two weeks before they could get him in, then she had the audacity to suggest I take him to another hospital that is somehow different than a ER (no idea what this is, cheaper?). Sending established clients to other clinics for routine appointments???? Its what you do!!!!! I expected a couple days at most to get my dog in.... TWO WEEKS?! Do NOT take your pet here. I just took my pug in for a wellness visit that included a nail trimming. When my dog came out, her foot was profusely bleeding from the nail and paw pad. I called the clinic to ask why this happened and the woman at the front desk tried to gaslight me into believing her injury was inevitable for a regular nail trimming. This could have been avoided if they took the time and care to avoid cutting her nails too short- but they didn't. When I asked if the nail trimming could at least be removed from my bill, the front desk woman was extremely rude and hung up on me. My dog is now shaking, whimpering, and losing hair. Grossly mismanaged my 13 yr old dog. Totally missed cushings despite 2 IM visit, 13 PT appts, and an urgent care visit. Diagnosis in hindsight was blatantly clear. late diagnosis shortened her life. Despite friendly staff, the vets are totally checked out And definitely not thorough or engage. One wanted to start a liver toxic drug on my dog before checking liver enzymes. I had them rechecked 3 days later and all of the were in the 1000s. just to hammer home the point, my dog was seen by them last April. I get called and said all the labs look great and nothing abnormal. Still months later I had her out for a second opinion and they commented on how profound Her liver enzymes were deranged and that she needed more care. point being, do not go here. read more

At this point, I'm pretty livid. Firstly, the vets seem knowledge and I trust their opinions. They are thorough in their examinations. What is lacking is the follow-through and customer service. I took my senior dog in 5 days ago. He is not doing well and I expected to hear from the vet with his results. I called 4 times between yesterday and today. The lab results are in and the vet was also in, but I did not receive a call from him. This is also after the front desk people apparently don't know how to call an Rx into Costco. They tell me that Costco doesn't stock the med, when I called Costco 3 separate times to verify that they do indeed stock it. Before my dog came home, I spoke with 3 front desk people at Dupont Vet to make sure (that in addition to calling these scripts in to Costco) they would send me written prescriptions in specific volumes of each medication, in the event that anything was lost in translation between Dupont Vet and Costco. My husband arrives home with my dog and the written prescriptions are incorrect, and Costco has no prescriptions called in. I called Dupont Vet yet again to ask them to call in the prescriptions to Costco in the proper volumes. They refused to call Costco because they said costco does not carry the medications and that they don't have time to call the prescriptions in, but that I can drive 20min back to fill the prescriptions at Dupont Vet for an exorbitant amount. At this point, I had to call Costco on 3-way (with Dupont on the line) because the front desk ppl said they refused to call. (Side note: isn't it part of *their job* to call in prescriptions?) In a quick and easy process, Costco filled the prescriptions and verified that they do stock them. After Costco hung up, Dupont hung up as well. I was beyond frustrated by this time, saying that it is extremely unreasonable: 1) For the customer to call Costco multiple times to verify that the Rx's are stocked, 2) to have to speak with 3 separate front desk staffers at Dupont and explain that these meds are *in fact* available at Costco, 3) to request 30mL of a medication be called in AND sent home on a paper copy (only to receive 7 1/2mL and have no scripts called in to Costco), 4) That the front desk staff hang up on me twice because they don't want to deal with me or admit that they were mistaken, or that they were remiss in their lack of customer service. Of course I asked these staff members to have the vet call me so that I may explain this ineffective and frustrating ordeal to mitigate future, similar incidents. Surprise, surprise...no one called. It is doubtful they even passed along my request to personally speak with the very over this matter. As a pet owner, I need to advocate for my dog since he cannot advocate for himself. This entire ordeal has been nightmarish. I am still waiting on labs results for a sick dog, and cannot pick up meds until I hear back from the vet (who conveniently is off tomorrow). Of course I requested that any other vet who is working, call me tomorrow. If I had not been calling them everyday, several times per day, when would they decide to get back to me with my dog's results and proper prescriptions? The entire experience has been a complete shame and disappointment. Especially having competent veterinarians, but lacking veterinary and administrative follow-through as well as customer service is not worth another visit. I need to close out this experience and find a new vet. read more

Update to my already 5-star review: can I give y'all 6 stars? I have been coming here for 5 years, since my dog was 12 weeks old. Several of my friends recommended Dupont Vet Clinic without hesitation. My dog, Ollie, is a trembling, always scared rescue mutt, and he has consistently received the best of care from the many gentle hands that work here. He always gets nervous around new male humans, so when I communicated that to the clinic, they made sure he always had a female technician. This is critical and so considerate of them; it would otherwise be impossible to draw his blood or give him vaccines or even take his heart rate. With a lot of patience and endless liver treats (or Jiffy peanut butter if one prefers), they make sure your dog is comfortable so they can efficiently do their work. They let me hold him to calm him down when he gets his vaccines, and I'm always involved in the discussion of his care. Even when undergoing surgery, decisions about his care are never made without explanation of the steps and costs, AND my written consent. I could see how some people have negative experiences because they don't ask questions or communicate their needs. I've found that all my questions have been answered, and they're really great about responding to emails. Many late night non-emergency dog problems have been solved via email, so we didn't have to go in and pay the office visit fee just to be turned around and told to eat chicken and rice. I've never trusted any doctor, not even my own doctors, like I trust Dr Dan Shillito. Even Ollie, my nervous dog who is terrified of new males, perks up and wags his tail when he sees Dr Dan. Dr Shillito is truly the modern Dr Doolittle, but is very humble about his wealth of animal knowledge. I could go on and on about how awesome he is, but the look on my healthy dog's face says it all. Here's the rundown: They have taught me so much about basic puppy care, and taught me not to panic every time my precious pup got a bit sick (minor tummy upset etc). They performed my dog's first dental cleaning with anesthesia and neutering. They (by they, I really mean Dr Dan) quickly and successfully diagnosed my dog's hypothyroidism. They (by they, I again mean Dr Dan) expertly helped me figure out how to take my dog to the UK, which was a tornado of paperwork and phone calls and emails and more paperwork. Now I live in the UK, and I don't know who will miss the vet more - me, or Ollie. Thank you all so much for 5 years of wonderful service, I'm already trying to find a way to bring Ollie back across the ocean for regular visits. read more

I'm still suffering from sticker shock (recently moved to DC from Vegas), but other than the price being more than double what I'm used to paying, this is a great vet clinic. Professional, but personable and friendly. Everyone from the docs to the front desk folks seem to really truly love animals. No parking other than street parking. The particular vet I had was great. He immediately got on the floor and played with my dog. He asked lots of questions about him so he could really get to know him. He also went over a list of things for me to watch out for now that he's an East Coast dog, which I really appreciated. All in all, it's been a great experience so far. read more

I took my dog to Dupont Vet for close to a decade, never loving the care nor the prices, but also wasn't terrible enough to change. However, when we came in for a sudden boil that appeared on my dog's leg last year, the vet was "pretty positive" she saw mast cells (a type of cancer) in his blood when she looked at it on a slide under a scope. Given the aggressive nature of the cancer, she suggested removing it right away without waiting for a biopsy, saying the classic, "If this was my dog, this is what I would do." Well, $800 and a TERRIBLE surgery later that took weeks for my dog to recover from, guess what? It was benign. I still feel guilty for putting my dog through that, and like a moron for going against rational medical procedure. To top it all off, we are at a new vet now, who informed us that we absolutely should not be giving our dog skin-based flea and tick medicine, as it can be poisonous for children (we have a toddler). Why did this never come up at Dupont? I'm pissed all over again for their sub-par medical care. Oh and they'll try and upsell you for everything. read more

As a follow up to my earlier review about DPVs poor reception skills I received a message from their management quoting policy. I would have assumed it would be policy for the management to actually be on site when issues like this happen, but of course they were MIA. And of course, it does not matter if vets are late each and every time for appointments, customers can never ever be is the takeaway. Customer time does not matter only the clinic's time matters. But here is the implication of the casual sense of entitlement the clinic front office displays. Two appointments within two weeks of each other with zero detection on what was wrong with my pet - once because someone missed the issue and the second time because I wasn't allowed to do a follow up. I end up in ER with my dog less than one week later because she has serious stomach issues. I mean if DPV was anything other than a clinic they could be forgiven for this ill treatment of established patients. I don't care if a hair salon can't accommodate me because rainstorm delays me. If I put my trust in you for my dog's health be more responsible. read more

I have been with them for several years now and I'm sorry to say, that our relationship ended on Monday due to unclear invoices, unprofessionalism, and a complete disregard of sensitive situations. It should also be noted that this was my only problem EVER to be experienced at the clinic, besides from the standard pushiness that comes from up-selling. I think it's unnecessary to document every point but I will give you some toplines: 1. Due to the unprofessionalism of the front desk staff* ( except for James as he was patient, professional, and competent) I was flagged as a person that they no longer was valued and therefore my dog and her test results were no longer valued. We were both placed last on the list and disregarded. I had to call several times the following day for my dog's test results and asked to speak with the vet, which was denied. Around 8 PM, Dr. Randall sent results, notes, and a PDF of an Rx ( which cannot be used in that medium) to me via James. * at the unprofessional experience with the front desk I will say I asked the cashier to stop speaking because she would not leave a situation alone-- and I would like to apologize for that. Me holding my credit card out to her and wanting to pay and leave as quickly as humanly possible turned into me attacking her. My dog -- my roommate & best friend whom I bottle fed--had had 12 seizures in the span of 24 hours, yet this was disregarded as I was clearly there to solely attack the cashier and she had to make sure I knew that she was in charge. The language that was used which was used on the internal document( see #3 for an explanation) was that I was "shoving my credit card in her face". Good news is, I believe there are cameras at the front desk so a quick review of the tapes can prove to any and all employees who are interested that that was an egregious exaggeration on her behalf. 2. The protocol for owners to approve of services is 100% inadequate. It should also be flagged for the front desk that just because the vet suggests something does not mean the vet has the right to perform the service. My dog is just that: mine. I was informed by the front desk that the vet will do what the vet thinks with or without consent from the owner. And that is not called veterinary science, that is called a lawsuit. 3. I asked the desk to send me records dud to my poor experience with the clinic as I wished ( and still do) to never return. I got a blank email with a pdf of paperwork a day later with the front desk's take on the situation which included the phrase-- "DO NOT CALL OWNER". ( hence why despite the fact that I needed to talk to a vet, I was denied) I wish the team the best of luck and as I can see by some of the other reviews on here, it may be time to evaluate the front desk with professionals and establish a clear sign off invoices and take a look at pricing. Nepotism ( I'm guessing?) and word of mouth don't seem to be cutting it. Additionally, I would suggest to Dr. Randall to stop being so pushy and listen more.
