Attended a business function at this unique self-contained winery. Sorry, dear readers, but as I was driving I didn't sample the (literal) house wines BUT I can tell you many of my colleagues present at the function did and universally declared the offerings as surprisingly good to great. The hors d'oeuvres (which I did indeed sample) were phenomenal - and lucky for me that night, substantive enough to constitute a de facto dinner. The restaurant is right on the waterfront, so on a good day (especially at sunset) the view is quite striking. Unfortunately, DC being what it is, the skyline will most likely have several cranes punctuating the frame of view, but it's still quite spectacular. Parking is outdoor at a lot right next to the restaurant, and while it's a pay lot, it's inexpensive ($1/hour). read more

District Winery is a fun, unique experience to do in Navy Yard. It's a beautiful space right on the Anacostia River near a splash park and countless restaurants and cafes. Ana is the fine dining restaurant inside District Winery if you need a romantic place for a date. If you're there with a group, they do wine tastings. Wine and a view - what more could you want. Came here one evening with a few friends for drinks. Tried the rose and the riesling, both of which were perfect for hot/humid summer evening. We also ordered a couple small plates to share. The brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy and honey/rosemary combo was delicious. the French fries were nothing special and probably would not order these again, but they chipotle mayo that came on the side helped. The outdoor patio is the cutest and has an amazing view by the water. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable about the wine options. First of all, the wineressour that is behind the tasting bar knows his stuff. All of the wines are really good and don't have a bitter after taste like most. I posted a picture of the tasting menu it's good for 6 glasses at $35. The entire decor of the place is dope as well. Fancy but homey type feels. Go here for a date especially, a day out with friends, or family. If you get a tasting afterwards we got a bottle and took it to the sister restaurant and have some bar apps. We visited District Winery for a few drinks during their happy hour (4-6), which includes $7 glasses of wine and $5 beers and ciders. I would definitely recommend going during then, because the wine was delicious but pricey! I got the Riesling, which was a little sweet but had a dry and sharp finish. It was delicious and perfect for sipping! I also got the cider they had available, which was very yummy. The atmosphere was amazing, and there were giant windows and plants everywhere which gave the building a great ambiance. They also have wine flights paired with food, which looked delicious and would be a great option for those looking to sample a few things off their menu. So glad we checked this place out for happy hour! It may just have become our go-to place to grab dinner after work. District winery is located at the waterfront side of Navy Yard, withholding its stance as a micro winery with show windows showing their barrels of wine. Their ambience is awesome with 4-sided glass windows that faces the water front. Better yet, their happy hour menu is AWESOME. We ordered off almost everything on the menu- Brussels sprouts, duck wings, burger, fries, and mussels. Out of those, I would most definitely recommend getting the Brussels sprouts and Truffle Aioli Burger. I feel like Brussels sprouts is one of those vegetables that you can really mis-cook, making it bitter and dry. These were so crisp, coated with honey and pumpkin seed brittle. I honestly think it was the best dish we ordered tonight. The burger was also very good, with a very strong taste of truffle. I guess, if you don't like truffle, it wouldn't be the best but my husband and I loved that they were not shy with the truffle. I visited this place for the first time after receiving many great reviews. I was not pleased by the service however. I sat at the bar with friends in the hopes of getting a table. I was on the "waitlist" but never received a text or call. A waiter walked up to my friends and I at the bar and asked us to move to make more room at the bar? Shocked at some of these rave reviews. Honestly we were very underwhelmed. Ok looking space, very industrial feel. Sat at the bar and asked for a Pinot Grigio and I was told they were out. At least at the wine tap. The wine the bartender offered in its place was horrendous and not even close to a Pinot Grigio. I can't believe a restaurant named district winery has no Pinot Grigio to offer in a bottle since the tap was out. It was extremely warm inside with what seemed like no air conditioning working. Two of the waitstaff just hung out behind the bar talking all the while we were there. The bartender with 4 people at the bar including us looked lost. Came here for restaurant week with my girlfriend, and it was fantastic! This is now one of two places I've been to in the DC area that I'd actively recommend. The only caveat is that normal prices are hefty. E.g. their scallops dish is $30. But they do have a good happy hour if you're budgeting. Their drinks are amazing, very crafty. I had a wine that was the opposite of a rose (so white grapes treated like red grapes) and the result was delicious. Experiencing something new is always cool. My favorite appetizer was the butternut squash beignets. We also got the french onion bread that had short rib on it but in execution, the short rib came out a little dry and the bread was a little soggy. For mains, we had the sirloin steak with mushrooms which was woodsy and campfire-y, and the seafood pasta which was great, but the pasta had some clumps and it was quite salty. If it sounds like I'm nitpicking, it's only because they're prices should reflect consistent execution. Still, you won't be disappointed by any of the food. I recommend. read more

We researched and came to this wine club, determined to do the Wine Flights and Bites. We reserved on Open Table for inside but it was a gorgeous night and we sat outside on only the first of two good weather days. The area faced the water (the Anacostia river I think) as well as Nationals Park, and there was a lawn in front with kids playing and people relaxing. We walked from the train station and sat quickly. Our waiter (really nice, Hispanic accent) explained the set up and we got one of each flight (white or Full Bloom) He was friendly, efficient and didn't rush us. The wine was good, we got a bottle of red for our hotel room. For bites we got Brussel sprouts, grilled cheese with tomato jam, and shrimp salad with fennel. All was good, but the tomato jam came across like very sweet ketchup! Regular tomatoes would have been better. One of us got a glass of Rosato for dessert, and I got the Strawberries and cream. I don't usually write happy hour reviews, but our HH at Ana basically turned into dinner (and a delicious one at that) and such a lovely experience, it feels almost silly to not write about it. First off, the happy hour deals are pretty great for DC, especially if you go with a few friends. Ana does half-off all bottles of wine (except for rosé and sparkling), and District's wine, which is made on-site from grapes sourced from reputable wine-making regions (Finger Lakes for white wines, Columbia Gorge and other good but lesser-known California regions for red wines), is generally easy on the palate and with the HH deal, comes very close to what the bottle retails for. The bar bite specials are also well-priced. We went for the green eggs and ham ($4), the mushroom toast ($9), and fries ($4), all of which we enjoyed. The mushroom toast - super flavorful with a generous amount of mushrooms - was far and away the highlight, but those unnaturally green but wonderfully executed deviled green eggs were very good too. The dessert, unfortunately, was not on the HH menu, but $11 for a shareable, beautifully-plated dish with varied textures and well-balanced, bright flavors was worth it. Everything was easy to share, and honestly, for the two of us, it was enough for a light dinner. It took a while for the bartender to warm up to us, but once he did, he made some great wine suggestions and took the time to walk us through the different flavor profiles of wines he thought might interest us. Thanks to him, we ended up ordering two glasses of rosé even after we finished the bottle of (dangerously easy to drink) wine! While we were there, we saw friends catching up (like us), couples on a date, a few lone wolves just there to enjoy a bite and a nice glass of wine, an after-work gathering, and a party featuring a very well-behaved baby, and everyone looked very content. Came for dinner on a Sunday night and it was pretty slow. The hostess checked our vaccination status which I love to see being enforced! Also loved that we were sat having a view of the river. It had a gorgeous atmosphere, the food was pretty fantastic- we had small plates of the duck and a salad. Both were yummy and the drinks were really good. I'd give the restaurant 5/5. Now, the actual winery was eh. We did a tasting and it left a lot to be desired. The person pouring our wine didn't explain anything to us, he just looked up from his book somewhat randomly and poured more in our glasses. This place is close to Navy Yard metro station. Initially had been for my company's holiday party and enjoyed the hors d'oeuvres. Wanted to come back for dinner. The wines are generally good. Food was Ok. We enjoyed the golden beet muhammara for small plates. The pita bread was warm, dense and tasty. The dip lemony, slight sweetness from beets and some nuts like peanuts & almonds was refreshing. For mains, i got the market vegetable shawarma. This is where they lost one star. The dish came with generous amount of veggies mostly carrots and brussel sprouts. The sprouts were fried and charred which resulted in entire dish tasting bitter. The beet falafel was very flavorful and the two dips tasted delicious. I also enjoyed the thin lavash crisp with loads of seeds & microgreens. I booked District Winery's private cabana for a Saturday celebration and absolutely loved the experience. There was a minimum spend of $200 which isn't outrageous (dare I say relatively affordable) for a group of 5. The cabanas were super comfortable and decorated adorably. Great for photos and we were even provided with a bluetooth speaker so we could dj our own experience. The only detail the room missed was having maybe 1 more plush chair, but even then the atmosphere was fab. We had the best service. From the host stand to our server who was incredibly knowledgable, attentive, and kind the day was certainly more memorable because of them. The wine bottles are priced similar to a bottle at Stone Tower/Bull Run/other nearby vineyards but without needing a designated driver or expensive party bus to take you there safely when you have uber or the metro at a reasonable price. The wines themselves were good, we liked the Blanc de Blanc best but the dry rose and riesling were great too! I liked my experience so much I joined the wine club! We will be back soon. read more

What a great date night! Came here with my date on a Thursday night and had such an amazing time. We did the winery tour, more of just a chat about wine and tasting but we were happy campers regardless, and then we grabbed a bite to eat after. We lost count of how many wines we tried and ultimately had a blast with the tour guide because it was just us and some employees on their off time come in to do the tour so the conversation was a lot of fun! They have also done a fantastic job reopening safely during covid. They even have opened up a virtual wine tasting series called "Meet the Winemaker." Been here multiple times, service was decent. Today at 9:30pm while the restaurant was still open (they close at 10pm) and still busy with patrons I poked my head in and was immediately stopped by the host who informed me they were no longer serving. I responded with a simple "I know, I was just hoping for a plastic cup of tap water for my dog please." which was met with a stern "nope". I thought I knew a little something something about wine until we toured District Winery last Friday, March 15th to celebrate my birthday. What an awesome gift and pleasant surprise! My bestie purchased tickets for her and I to attend the 90 minute Tour & Wine Tasting. Good thing she got our tickets in advance because the 12 person max tour sold out like hot cakes by the time she invited friends! We were greeted and shown the ropes by our awesome tour guide Andrew. He was very knowledgeable, hilarious, and extremely patient answering all of our 101 questions, especially when more questions came during & after 7 different wines were unlimitedly sampled!lol Andrew even sounded out in writing our fav of them all Vee-Own-Yay (Viognier)... We took a risk to drive to Due South for brunch without making a reservation but to our unsurprise, there was a long wait. Determined to try the restaurant's food, we agreed to be waitlisted. Fortunately, we stumbled upon District Winery and decided to grab a quick drink or few. That's right. The waiter presented us with the option to order a 3 glass wine flight.
