A cute and convenient place for drinks, but not really remarkable. This is a small restaurant inside of District Winery, which is the fancy winery in Navy Yard. Getting a reservation here isn't hard, but it is usually pretty full - chalk that up to its location. The prices and service are pretty normal for the area. I enjoyed my drinks here but, candidly, none stuck out. None were bad, none were mind-blowing, but all were pretty good. The wines were, as one might expect, pretty good. I wouldn't come here for some sort of insanely unique or unusual experience, but I would come here if I was looking for a safe choice with clients or a date. read more

My sister and I went here last night for the first time and we're not disappointed! We both got the wine flights - the cab sauv was the star of the show. Delicious! I participated in a beautiful celebration of my son's wedding last evening. The venue provided the perfect atmosphere to join two families together. My girls and I grabbed a late dinner at district winery and it was good. I like the small plates wish they had more of a meatier options and more fruit and chocolate. In addition, our waiter was unfriendly and didn't seem like he wanted to serve us. All the drinks and food was still good. I booked the tour and tasting for two for my friend's birthday. This review is for that experience, and not for the restaurant. Out tour was scheduled for 6 pm. We waited a few minutes for others who had reserved the same tour. Andrew was our guide, and he was awesome--very knowledgeable and witty. I have done numerous tastings in VA, as well as in Napa and Sonoma. For an urban winery, this was very enjoyable. You don't see the grapes in the vineyards or course, but they give a very informative presentation about the process of winemaking and the history of their business. They started with an un-oaked Chardonnay, which was very good. They had a nice Reisling (not too sweet), a Viognier, and a type of Rose. Then there were four red varieties, ending with a very nice cabernet sauvignon. (The only one we did not care for this time was the pinot noir). Andrew took his time with the tasting, sharing information about how the process varies for each varietal. They send you home with a souvenir glass. I was really favorably impressed with this experience, which lasted about 75 minutes. The tasting that goes with the tour takes place in a private back room where the tanks are, so you can relax and avoid the busier tasting tables out front. read more

Their new menu is absolutely trash. I used to come here often because everything was great but this new menu is a complete miss. I'd avoid coming back for a while. The home fries came completely burnt, all the spritzes are off the menu, and the service was trash. Not sure if it's new management or the chef or what and I honestly don't care, the food is just terrible now. Also as a restaurant that serves brunch, how do you not have Prosecco?? They get two stars because the mushroom risotto is good but if they take that off the menu there's really no redeemable option here. Sad because I used to love coming here! read more

I cannot say enough great things about District Winery! I just moved to DC and was planning a small [COVID] wedding, VERY last minute. Through their website I found they were doing small receptions, reasonably priced with so many things included that I didn't have to plan much! Working initially with Marisa over the phone, she answered all of my questions and responded so quickly with anything I needed. At the venue, I worked with Rheanna who was a miracle worker! She is patient, accommodating and super friendly. She was also extremely responsive and helped me with everything I asked, and I definitely asked a lot from her. The staff working that night was also extremely friendly and accommodating to our needs. This wedding was planned in less than three weeks, and I couldn't have done it so perfectly without her. From the view, to the layout, to the timeline, everything was incredible and flawless! Everyone told me that it seemed like I had been panning for a year. The food was amazing, every guest complimented us that we chose the best menu. I've been to City Winery for dinner and just recently for the New Year's Day pajama brunch and I'm a fan. The atmosphere is great, with a large open interior and outdoor area with water views. The staff is also a plus. For brunch, I got the gratis mimosa and the steak and eggs which came with a side salad. Everything was great except I would have appreciated a heads up that the steak would be sliced with sauce on it. Just a minor menu omission. My boo ordered toast which is a flavorful bread with honey. Who knew toast could be that good? The other time I visited, I had a fish dish which was a perfect size and cooked perfectly. I visited District Winery for a tour, but arrived early and decided to grab a glass of wine at Ana. The restaurant is a beautiful space with floor to ceiling windows that overlook the Anacostia. It was cloudy when I was there, but I can imagine it to be gorgeous during a nice sunny day or at sunset. The bar has a full selection of house wines and cocktails. The prices are more expensive than most bars, but the quality is superb. I didn't have the opportunity to try the food, but their menu looks delicious and upscale. It would be a perfect place for a date night or entertaining friends. They have a dinner and brunch menu, but no longer offer lunch. read more

Our welcome to the winery was pretty dry but much better than the two restaurants we attempted to dine at before getting to the winery. Once we were seated, there was a shift. Erick warmed up and our experience turned out really great! The winery itself is beautiful inside and the out door seating is in a prime location. Protip- tasting are half price on Wednesdays! Otherwise a tasting costs between 14-16 per person. A tasting includes 5 wines and there are three options to choose from: two that are pre-selected by the winery and a pick your own option. We chose a pick your own option. I chose the Riesling, Viogneir, Dry Rose, 2012 Old Vine Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. My favorites were the Viogneir and Old Vine Zinfandel. The Old Vine Zinfandel was smooth and overall a great tasting wine. Service was fine throughout our visit. The bar area is small and can get busy so you may have to wait for a spot to open up. read more

You know when you go shopping and only need one thing but end up with 27? Well I came here on a Wednesday night around 8 and it was not crowded at all. We had just come from the tasting bar and wanted to try something only sold at the restaurant, the sparkling Blanc de Blanc. It arrives by the hand of our bartender Damien. (I think his real title is Beverage Designer). While we sip our (excellent by the way) sparkling, Damien starts to tell us about the new special, the roasted duck. He describes this duck so eloquently and in such detail that makes my mouth water, and tells us some lady even hugged him earlier because it was so good. So obviously we order the duck. But Damien doesn't stop there! He also manages to sell us on a seared fish appetizer and two sides. And then as we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of this prestigious duck, Damien informs us that they had just sold out of it. I felt like my ice cream had dropped on the floor! Damien had some tricks up his sleeve though! He convinced us to order the NY strip instead (though I didn't need much convincing, steak is my favorite food group). Even though we didn't get to try the duck, everything else was incredible; even the apple cinnamon dessert (which we also were not planning to get). I went to District Winery with a few friends for their outdoor dining. The staff is doing a very good job of keeping everything distanced and sanitized. We ordered a bottle of rose, which was delicious. We decided to do a couple of small plates instead of entrees. So we ordered the fried brussels sprouts, french fries with chipotle mayo, glazed peach salad, crispy soy chicken bites, and whipped ricotta. Everything was delicious. The brussels sprouts were perfectly crisped, and the addition of the honey and rosemary was so tasty. Chipotle mayo is an amazing condiment, and this one was no exception. We originally did not order the glazed peach salad, but we decided we wanted a few more plates. I'm very glad we decided to add it on. The toasted hazelnuts and mint were the best part. The chicken bites were good, but definitely not my favorite. I think my favorite was the whipped ricotta. I could've eaten three plates of it and maybe asked for one to go. Came here after a wine tasting at District Winery next door. We had a couple drinks and some snacks as well, as we'd been day drinking a bit earlier in the day. The space and décor are beautiful and I love the view of the harbor. We were sitting at the bar, as there was a long wait for a table, so we ordered from the bar menu. We tried the Golden Beet Muhammara, which was delicious. The bread was fantastic and nice and buttery so it felt very decadent. Ate here when celebrating my birthday with spouse and daughter. Bottom line: 5 stars across the board. Location is stunning: on the water. Ana is named after the Anacostia River, a nice touch. The District Winery is affiliated with another urban winery in NYC, and the wines served here were made there. One day, when the wines made here are ready, Ana will serve its own house-made wines. Location is good, convenient parking next door. Lots of wonderful new shops and restaurants in the area, great to walk around before and after. We had a 6:15 pm reservation on a Saturday evening, our table was ready even though we were a few minutes early. The room is magnificent: 3-story windows, overlooking the river and the walking path outside. Acoustics are good, no need to shout. Seating is comfortable and well-lit, just nosy enough that I didn't hear any conversation from the tables surrounding us. On the wall are portraits of every US president, painted in wild colors and variations by what appears to be a single painting. You could spend your entire meal just naming and interpreting the images of the presidents. Really cool art. Our server was totally charming and added to the enjoyment of the meal. We took her wine recommendations (wines were good!) and she helped us select our meal: mushroom toast, cod, monkfish, and pasta. Each dish was outstanding and I wanted to eat all of it again as soon as I finished, and I wanted to eat what my family ordered. It was that good. A bit pricey, but that's what you pay for a truly good meal in a stunning location. We poked around after the dinner. Upstairs is a reception space that looked lovely, a reception space directly upstairs, and then an event/dinner space a floor above that. I came here on a date and had the best experience! The whole area is super cute, both inside and outside and has nice evening vibes. The tables are also very spread out, so they're definitely taking COVID precautions. My date and I both got the seasonal wine flight (3 half glasses) and then 5 shareable dishes. I would say 4 is a good amount for dinner if you're hungry as we did end up taking some leftovers to go. The food was really good! We got the Grilled Cheese, Crispy Soy Glazed Chicken Bites, House-Made Pork Sausage Sliders, Turkey and Golden Raisin Meatballs and the Chopped Beet Cured Salmon. So, I've wandered by this bustling restaurant/bar numerous times while walking my dog and finally went in for some drinks. The staff and clientele were friendly. Who wouldn't be on a warm June Saturday night? The bartenders, Sarah and Damien, worked as a great team and managed the turnover well as customers moved from bar to table, but this review is based on my experience with the hand crafted cocktails I thoroughly enjoyed. Drink A: The River Vieux Based on a Vieux Carre, this was a great start. I had told Sarah I enjoyed whiskey drinks, specifically Manhattans and Old Fashioneds, so she made me this drink off the menu. It was mellow, and not overly sweet. A great start to the evening. Drink 2: The New York Sour This drink blew me away. I asked Sarah to surprise me with something, and she did not disappoint. It was like a whiskey laced lemon meringue pie that was an easy sipping drink that I didn't want to stop. Seriously, go to Ana and ask for this drink. You need it in your life. Drink D: THE Old Fashioned Yeah, letters and numbers and out of order... Blah, blah, blah. Watch yourself some "Home Alone", Buzz... but I digress. This was probably the best Old Fashioned I've ever had. If you know me, this is a big statement. Gently spiced with cinnamon and ginger, I was regretful that I couldn't have another as I would have to walk myself home without falling over from too much. First off, I'd just like to say dining during a pandemic is a complete scam. It's not DW's fault though, so I won't dock them for it. I didn't know the area was this developed, and literally everywhere else was full or only doing reservations. District winery was first come/first served, so we popped in. I can't speak for the interior benefit because it was outdoor seating only, but the patio was nice, though I could see it becoming a bit annoying during a colder/windier day. I ordered the Crispy Soy Glazed Chicken Bites, an order of fries, and two bottles of water, for a total of $28. The chicken bites were in a soy sauce glaze with sprinkled sesame seeds. Initially they're sweet, but as the flavor sits on your tongue, a spice kicks in. They were a bit too crunchy for my taste, like they were overcooked just a bit, but nothing too egregious, so maybe it just was my batch. The fries were lit though! I know that sounds basic, but they truly were exceptional. The Chardonnay and dry rosé were ok, but nothing special for $12/glass. In all, district winery is a nice spot for an evening meetup with a group of friends, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone who's legitimately hungry, or on a budget lol. District Winery is not what I used to be, menu is different, service is hit or miss. The food is nothing exciting, it seems lazy. The tuna crudo has what looks like a guacamole with sesame crackers and whole tangerine pieces, it was odd. The octopus was so charred you couldn't taste the actual octopus. Cocktails took 20 minutes to come to the table. Would only come back for a glass of wine on the patio just because of the view. There are many other better places in the city to try. read more

Super gorgeous location and great wine selection that they make in house. I haven't eaten at the restaurant or tried any of their food, but I've done the wine tasting which I highly recommend! It is $12 for 4 or 5 wines and a person explains the wine and answers any questions you have. There is a bar to the left of where you enter, and you can choose out of two or three different wine tasting menus, depending if you like more whites, reds, or sweets. Would highly recommend doing the tasting (super good deal) and just enjoying the space next to the water. Will definitely have to come back and visit the restaurant! Along with that the bartender was very attentive, but apps-wise the fried Brussel sprouts, but it was overly sweet, salty, and extremely oily. I think if they didn't over do everything then they would have been much better. Some parts were too sweet others too salty. The aesthetic of the place is beautiful and has a great view of the water. But I will say this is a typical winery so don't get your hopes up about ordering a mixed drink. They don't have any food besides the type of food you'd see at a winery and they only have 7 cocktail drinks other than their wine list and cannot serve any other type of drink with alcohol beyond what's on their cocktail list. Gorgeous views and tasty bites make this place a contender for best Navy Yard restaurant, though I still place Morini ahead of it (for now). I have to note, as others have, the floor to ceiling windows that look out almost onto the waterfront. It's a great dinner atmosphere and because they have two-person tables along the windows, I would recommend it for a romantic night out. We started with the crab beignets and the grilled octopus. The beignets were a disappointment; they have very little crab meat in them. The grilled octopus, on the other hand, was outstanding. I also had a criollo margarita; it's different and smooth, but I think it may be misnamed because it in no way resembles a margarita except for the fact that it has tequila. We ordered the charred broccoli steak, amish chicken, and smoked duck for our main courses. The charred broccoli was just that, a huge piece of broccoli. It was well done, and I'm glad they have a vegetarian/vegan option, but it seems overpriced. The smoked duck was smoky and had a very crispy skin, but the meat itself was completely bland. Such a shame. The best main course to me was the Amish chicken. I'm generally not a big fan of ordering chicken at restaurants because I see it as a low ceiling food, but this chicken was juicy and well-seasoned. When I return, I may just order it myself. For dessert we had the corn cremeux and the plum tart. Both were tasty. Service was very good in terms of our server's friendliness and recommendations. Where I would nitpick a bit is over being slightly neglected at times. We sat for about 10-15 minutes before someone came to take our first order, and in between courses, and after dessert, there was also a long wait. Nothing offensive, but it was noticeable. Overall, I definitely recommend Ana. This place is oh-so-close to stellar that I'll be rooting for them to get there by my next visit. read more

My friend and I went here on a Saturday night and were able to secure a reservation without any issues. The staff was very friendly and didn't mind talking through our questions about the drink menu. Note that while it is at district winery, they don't offer wine flights or other kinds of tastings--will have to come back to the winery for that! My friend enjoyed the "harvest bees" cocktail, while i got orange chardonnay. Harvest bees seems to be a crowd-pleaser, not being too sweet or too bitter. I'd recommend the orange chardonnay to people who are adventurous with their wine--it's unique, but definitely not for everyone. I regret not buying a bottle of it at the end of the meal (they offer very reasonable prices)! As far as food, we didn't stray too deep into the menu, sticking to the appetizers. The crab beignets definitely live up to the hype. The other dish we got was also really interesting--butternut squash muhammara. While both were delicious, the crab beignets definitely disappear too fast to fill you up. You may want to go easy on your entree though if you order the muhammara, as you'll start to feel the food coma. The space was ambient, well-designed, and had some really intriguing/vibrant artwork. The tasting room- no food offered but allows you the opportunity to try their wines, just like a "real winery" offers. 2. Their event space. Located on the second floor of the building. 3. ANA- their restaurant named after the anacostia river not a person :). Now that it's broken down this review is for the restaurant. I didn't how it was broken up and now I do. We decided to do just apps so we could taste as much as they offered!! The duck toast didn't get rave reviews ( I didn't try this one so going off what friends said) they thought there was nothing outstanding there. Now the mushroom toast on the other hand was oozing with great flavor. You get a good chunk of bread and they pile it with the toppings so a good sharing item. Crab beignets- lots of flavor but reminded me of a friend crab cake. There was 4 in a dish so good sharing item. The butternut dish was one of my favs, Indian curry spiced with almonds and pomegranate seeds for crunch and texture. Octopus was grilled and served with a acids based sauce- well done just be sure to grab a couple pieces of the micro mint in your bite! The most shocking one was the rutabaga pierogi. Not sure what I was expecting but the inside was a nice smoky flavor. Rutabaga is pretty neutral vegetable but the addition of smoke married with the vegetable well. Defiantly worth a go! As a self-appointed Wine Enthusiast it pains me to write a below average review on a wine establishment. But, the truth must be told....at least the truth according to me. So, I decided to venture to District Winery and the Yards area on sparsely-rainy day. The weather has absolutely nothing to do with this story, but it sounds cool. I digress, the location and venue are beautiful. Even from the outside. The winery is enclosed in all glass so that you can see the stages of the wine making process. Uber cool. I entered the winery and was greeted with a pleasant man and an ipad. You put your name down for a reservation to taste. The space is large, but not functional. Point of note: the wine bottles make for great decor. So, there was an hour wait to taste. Yeah, that. An hour wait to taste. Dear winery, your lifeblood is selling wine. People will not buy wine they have not tasted. They will also not wait an hour to taste. I digress again. I bought a glass of wine, sipped and went to have lunch somewhere else as the restaurant was not open. During my lunch I got the text my spot was ready. Came back and got a spot for one at the tasting bar. - Con: The tasting bar is FULL of people doing more talking than tasting. MOVE. I tried about 5 wines, none of them remarkable, but the Cabernet was good so I bought it. - Con: The taste of the Cabernet changes DRASTICALLY as it opens. Normally wines breathe and become better, this one not so much. It became undrinkable. Honestly. - Con: The quality of the wines are sub-par. Its priced right for a boutique winery, but just not that great to me. Most are really acidic. So, here are some tips on how to approve the experience. - Dont make people wait an hour to taste. Also, dont make people wait so long to BUY a glass of wine also. How? Like this. - Hire more people. There should not be only 2 people pouring, selling, and educating. Utilize the tables for group tastings. This will free up the tasting bar area for small group and solo folks. It will also cut down time.
